- More than a year ago, it seemed impossible that the Flight Simulator franchise would make a comeback. Fast-forward to now and we have Microsoft Flight Simulator set to release on August 18th for PC (with an Xbox One version coming later). Developed by Asobo Studio, there's a lot going on in this iteration so let's break down 15 things you need to know before picking it up.

So basically it is a marketing spiel, not things you need to know like catches or gotchas or anything. I was expecting warnings about high system requirements, etc.

Of course we will have to construct a craft w/ much longer wings (approx4 times) to get enough lift to fly in Mars' super thin atmosphere, and more powerful engines that don't require oxygen to run to produce enough thrust in the thin atmosphere, and VTOL capability or some big TUNDRA TIRES since there are no airports shown in my Garmin database for Mars.

who ever wrote the min specs for intel to AMD needs there head checked. min RX 570 to GTX 770....WTF a 770 is SHIT compared to a 570. 570 is just under a 970 range. and a 590 is above.. then you have the IDEAL being a pro 2700X and not like a 3600 but on the intel side is a I7 9800X? smoke more dope.

It might not be possible but imagine if you could play this on a real plane, as you fly a plane in the game, which is buzzing your real plane.

Man this is very cool. I can't wait to fly around the world. See the places I've been to and the ones I haven't as well will be really exciting.

Capitalised stop before you buy you need to watch this video.. but its just a list of features. I guess this is how a lot of people like their youtube content lol.

I wish this would get around more with mainstream media. Not a lot of people know about this. THIS IS HISTORIC AND GAME CHANGING.
A lot of these water shots of the Icon A5 and the citation Mustang show reefs and water that appears to have depth and lots of color variation. I really hope they include that in the full version, because so far in all the alphas and the beta the water is all one solid color.

Anyone remember when you had to not only down load specific aircraft you wanted, but also the cockpit and the sound? So if you wanted an airplane that wasn't in the game you'd end up downloaded (and probably having to pay for) 3 separate files in order to get one semi-realistic plan inside MSFS. Then there was the scenery if you wanted various parts of the country (or world). So happy this is back and it looks like they took the time to get it right!

I want this. I had flight sim X. But to make it good you needed so many scenery add ons, which were expensive and require a huge amount of hard drive space.

Right on. I have watched a bunch of these reports on FS2020 and they all sound as if they were created by Microsoft’s marketing department. Yes, the sim looks stunning, but no software is perfect, and this is an enormous challenge.

yeah, i've been waiting 10 years for this. I have a yoke, rudder pedals, flight controllers and more set up and waiting, i pre-ordered the premium edition without even having to think about it

Will you be able to use old FSX airplaines etc., in MS 2020 as well as would you still need to use FSUIPC or will MS2020 pulll in all the extra hardware that you have?

Does it still have the auto rudder feature... I am a quadriplegic and do not use pedals so the auto rudder comes in handy for me especially for landing and taking off.

It's Microsofts engine after all lol.. There's a ton of expertise that went into this that they have in spades, it's all good.
I bought Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 on day of release... SUPER EXCITED!!! After a half hour of flying it froze my whole machine every time I played; my PC became unresponsive and had to be powered off manually (which can be harmful if you have processes running in the background). I'm running an i7 rig with an RTX 2070, 16GB of RAM and 50GB broadband internet, I should have been able to run this no probs. The Microsoft help desk had its link to live assistants shut down and the official forum was also taken offline so there was no way to get help fixing the problem. To Microsoft's credit they did refund me quickly and without hassle but this is the single worst experience I've had with a game at launch, it just didn't work... VERY dissapointed.
I'm sticking with Xplane 11 for now :(
hello my question is this..i have just bought another computer coming this week so i now need to buy the game..which is best..actual disc's or digital download or steam if its on that, not cost but actual playing quality as far as graphics etc are concerned..does playing off disc's lag perhaps or maybe you install all 10 and then its the same as a download...thank you

My main concern is #14 mod marketplace. Will this marketplace be available for all platforms? I don't want to buy the wrong version.
I really hope they fix the cloud lighting - they sometimes look a little unrealistic like cotton wool and seem to cast strange or missing shadows on other layers. Some look like they have a consistently bight light lighting them making them look almost flat.
I think VATSIM should have been one of your 15. It's truly a game changer, granted, for hardcore simmers.

I hope when talking to ATC that all you need is to press a button and not have it show up in the screeen . In the old version You had a choice of on screen communications or not.

This game is going to be one relaxing experience. Hope it runs ok on Xbox One and is a free upgrade on Xbox Series X.

@@dieseldrax Lol... The game is literally called "Microsoft flight simulator". Microsoft owns the game, they gave the studio the job to make the game and provided massive amounts of resources, money and support.... So yes Microsoft made the game, they aren't just publishing it.
This game would be impossible to make without Microsoft's support.

@@jem9692 "LOL" MSFS 2020 wouldn't even exist without Asobo Studio because MSFT doesn't have the resources the create the game themselves. Yes, it uses a lot of MSFT tech for various aspects but MSFT didn't make the game. Not saying that's good or bad, just saying the way it is. Asobo Studio made the game using their own developers and leveraged MSFT services. But if it makes you feel better to think that MSFT actually created the game then go right on ahead.

no doubt it will release on xbox to coincide with the release of their series X ,this is their series X seller. (and i bet it sells a good few of them too) if it looks and runs like this on the series x it is a complete gamechanger for consoles, the past few generations of consoles haven't really had launch titles with the real wow factorcompared to the previous gen but this is just stunning (yes I know this is pc ultra but I recon the X will be able to do at least medium-high settings going by other videos I've seen and the spec required to do it)
I can't wait to get my hands on it next week on PC. real happy for the console crowd that they finally get something like this it's been a long time coming
also im pretty sure that every airport on earth is exactly where it should be (the runways I mean) the ones that are not hand crafted or edited the buildings (and taxiways) won't look like they do in real life but the runway will be spot on (that data is readily available), even fs2004 had obscure grass runways in the middle of nowhere in the right place

Ordered and paid for ... three days to go and counting. I am a Mac guy but I bought a nice PC with an i7, GTX 1080, 32 GB RAM, and all SSD with 27" 4K screen (All Dell) just to try this. In the meantime, I got RDR2 and GTAV, and both run >60 fps at 4K so worth the investment. I will upgrade to an Alienware high end gamer if this is insufficient for MSFS.
So I’ve i7.9750h 4.5 ghz with 16gb ddr4, and rtx 2060 6gb. And yet I’m getting crappy 18fps! I thought this setup was at least in medium range isn’t it?? It doesn’t seem to be optimized well enough.
I bought it when it was launched, Now I have the computer power to used it. Wow i can't be happier, just waiting for MSFS 2024 which is promising with a new and fresh engine that promise to fix must of the issues the actual version has.
It would be awesome to fly with your friends and your friend crash into a building so you can see what exactly happens when you crash your plane.

I'd love to know how this is going to work on the Series X.
I’m sure it will have its own special version with lower quality textures and effects, probably fixed res at 1080p or maybe 1440p and upscale to 4K. I seriously doubt it will run natively at 4K. Even if somehow it does run at 4K i guarantee the textures and effects will be dumbed down using frame scaling.

Which yoke and pedals? I used X-Plane for some years but my Mac wouldn’t handle it, so now I am seriously considering building a PC for MS2020. I don’t mind spending what it will take to do it right the first time.

Have a 1TB samsung 860 EVO ssd ordered just for FS2020. Be able to cache a fair chunk of area for offline play or maybe offload from internet use.
Have 120Mbit ...but if 3 of us flying (wife interested too) internet might not cut it.
