There is a huge range of cards from both Nvidia and AMD, this is just my suggestions for each category covered. What was I thinking....HMDI?...sorry that should be HDMI..!!!!! Great video and recommendations. I built my first PC in Dec 2019 and had to compromise on a decent (but cheap) mid-range GPU. I bought the MSI Armour RX580. Works well for 1080p in my truck sim games and is silent at idle but no one ever mentioned that under load it sounds like a freaking jet taking off. This might be perfect and might add to your flight sim experience, but annoys the hell out of me. Just throwing that out there since very few, if any, GPU reviewers ever mention noise levels. At the time I built the reviewers and presenters seemed more concerned with FPS and RGB ;-) Thank you for the detailed information.

    • @Chris-xo2rq
      @Chris-xo2rq 4 года назад +1

@@prez343 Yeah that's the right way to do it, just set your monitor to 144 and use gsync/freesync if you've got it. The benefit of going over 144 is not worth the inconsistency of not using a frame sync method. It's a good feeling when you've got more frames than you know what to do with rather than fighting for every last one lol.
Also with old or simple games not capping the framerate is just a waste of electricity. No point having the game engine render 500+ frames a second when the monitor is only showing a quarter of them.

Nice video! Especially liked the intro. Happy to hear my 1080 isn't a total washout, although it was just a passing remark. The problem tends to be that there are so many variations of chipsets and tunings that a pure "this is our recommendation" only helps people in search for a new rig, and leaves the owners of the "extreme choice" of two years back in serious doubt where their expensive set should be placed in the lineup.

Whilst you may need a 2080ti to max out P3D, MSFS202 does not need it, the 2080 Super will max out the sim at 4k ultra settings. Flight sims need good cpus too so a latest gen Intel or AMD Ryzen processor is also very important to max out MSFS2020, along with 32gb of ram, and a fast SSD or m.2 drive. The sim will only be as fast as your slowest component.

Based on what we currently know, Ampere should be a pretty decent step up from Turing, and between competition from AMD and the fact that they're apparently going with Samsung's 8nm process for manufacturing (which is a little cheaper than TSMC's 7nm process), they might even be a bit less expensive than the 20 series was at launch. Let's compare the purchasing power of an Englishman who earns a minimum wage with the purchasing power of a Brazilian who also earns a minimum wage:
    - British minimum wage: £ 8.21 or R $ 55.50 (Brazilian currency in Reais)
    - Brazilian minimum wage: R $ 4.75 or £ 0.70
If an EVGA Black Edition 11GB RTX 2080Ti costs £ 1160.00 or 141.3 hours worked in the UK
Here in Brazil we would have to work 1657 hours to buy the same video card ... With the same value ... But it is much more expensive: Here the same video card costs £ 1449.65 or a Brazilian worker would have to it is true to work TWO THOUSAND AND SEVENTY HOURS ... if he doesn't spend anything living with his parents. that is, 10 and a half months saving money.

I was expecting more some recommendations what are the parameters we should be looking for and some relevancy to current flight simulators that are available - esp. real testing etc. (higher memory or newer memory - 6 over 5, etc.).... testing with these cards on current XPL would be more interesting....

Generally speaking with the exception of Flight Simulator 2020 (which not only has a High Fidelity Graphics Engine, but will offload Physics Simulation on to Compute Shaders) then your choice of Graphics Cards more-or-less comes down to what Resolution you want to run at (Fill Rate) and Graphics Memory Available.
The actual performance is far less important.
This means you can more-or-less get away with a Mainstream (Sub-£300) Graphics Card and still be able to run at 1440p/2160p just fine... what tends to matter more is your CPU, System Memory and Storage Drive combination.
As such this is where you'll really want to invest., as well the key element of a Flight Sim is the Simulation aspect.
Physics is generally CPU Bound., the better the Floating Point Performance and Core Count of your CPU... then the better it will be.
Same is true in terms of Scenery. You might think "Oh but a Forrest of Trees / Houses, clearly will take a lot out of my GPU... no?" and well the simple fact is that most Triple A Games are generally speaking pushing 10-50x the Geometric Complexity., beyond that things like Trees or Buildings are generally just a handful of Unique Models; these actually are lightweight to process regardless if you have 100 or 1,000,000 on-screen at once; because all the Graphics Card needs to do is process the unique model then instance it multiple times.
In such a case very little data is changing that needs to be processed again.
Instead where this will hurt is via the CPU, as the logic of doing Instancing still has to be handled say 1,000,000x on the CPU; where-as for the GPU it's more-or-less packaged as an instruction to reuse data.
As such Scenery is typically going to hit your CPU harder the more you have. What you'll need from the GPU for such is more Graphics Memory just to store the Instance References., but this is more-or-less to further reduce the need to reprocess said base model for some simple state changes during the Render Pass.
Still as noted Flight Sim 2020 is a bit different here., as well they decided to take advantage of how much more powerful GPUs have become to really ramp up how the game looks to 11.
In the case of that... well you're going to want to consider the GPU in the same way you would for say Triple A Game Releases.
Anything Sub-£300 is going to be 1080p, £300 - £500 is going to be 1440p and for 2160p (4K) you're going to want something £500+
As a note both the RTX 30-Series and RX 6000-Series are due to be released within the next 4-8weeks., so it's perhaps best to hold off deciding as we don't yet know what these GPU lines up are going to be. There have been a lot of "Leaks" that have constantly changed over the past 6 months, and this is a bit unusual as normally so close to launch we'd have a fairly good idea on Line Up and Price Points being fully leaked; as it stands we're still basically still in the dark.
Same is true for the next Gen Consoles (which we know Flight Sim 2020 will be released for Xbox One X, Series S and Series X) but no prices for them and again they're set to release in < 3 months... normally we know most of this info back in Mar / Apr.
So yeah, I'd give it a while.

Be aware all that Nvidia announced today that they are discontinuing the 20 series line to exhaust current stock. That is likely to mean prices will rise ahead of the introduction of the 30 series. That also likely means the 30 series is just around the corner so a fraught time to buy. I'm holding off until both manufacturers unveil their new offering in about mid September...ish.
