      The Broncos no doubt had the better defense and we had the better offense. If anything we actually should've won this game if they had ruled this as a catch and Cam had jumped on the ball when he got strip sacked. Huge blown call that essentially gave Denver the game. It doesn't even look like the ball hits the ground, the Denver player's helmet is what knocks the ball loose, and Cotchery still doesn't let it hit the ground after that. If they call this a catch, J Stew doesn't get banged up and would have been effective in the game, and that strip sack TD doesn't happen. NFL had to give old Peyton his magic ending. +anthony orgoglio -- omg I am with you -- he totally controlled the ball on the way down, and if he had taken even one more step before going down, all this BS about the ball touching the ground would be moot. But I don't think we can make that argument though... i think he controlled the ball during mid-stride of step one, then took one more step, then was on the way down. I think NFL rules will say that does not fully constitute a "football move". The current rule does suck -- but I will ALWAYS believe this was a catch even under the current rules. Denver was not a good team; and Carolina wins this game if this was called a catch. It's strange that a wrong call so early in a game can skew an outcome like this one did. I do blame Carolina coaches and Cam for not getting beyond this (considering how early in the game this was); I mean -- just shake it off and play your game!! But still - in my mind -- if this is called a catch, denver gets blown out in the game. So - yeah, it sickens me that the headlines are how Denver spanked Carolina, when really the offensive and defensive stats show Carolina blew denver out of the water. Even on a night when Cam was not Cam. This was BAD juju. No way Denver wins this game without help from the officials.

    Eventually - there will be a view of this play that will show CLEARLY that Cotchery had a finger under the tip of the ball; that the ball never touched the ground. And at that point, you gotta put an asterisk behind this denver win. Cuz if Cam gets that completion, not only does Denver NOT get the almost immediate strip-sack-td, but you have Cam now likely mentally settled early in the 1st Q. ( He threw at least 2 awful passes before this one -- nerves? - and this was his 1st nice throw.) So it becomes a completely different game, IMO. And one where Denver is not at all likely to win. This play right here is the difference in the game. Sucks how this BS can happen in a super bowl. Still -- the Panthers had plenty of time to recover from this bad call -- it's really a shame they didn't get beyond this injustice.

And if it is a catch, well the broncos lose - pretty badly too. So, since it WAS a catch, the bronco's lost that game. That's how I will always choose to interpret the outcome of this game. If I'm at a trivia game in 20 years when the question comes up -- "who won super bowl 50?" I will always answer "It wasn't the broncos."

      +Bert Hager - there's another post of mine somewhere deeper in this thread from a couple days ago. here's why this play makes ALL the difference: Cam was really really bad until this particular throw. It was a good throw. It was a completion. Until it wasn''t. Cam was poopy until this throw. I truly believe if Cam gets this completion -- he immediately becomes normal Cam. Not to mention there is absolutely no chance of the strip-6 that immediately happened after this fkd up call. Denver had no offense at all - all night. Give us a normal Cam - our offense would have blown those boys away. The defenses were basically evenly matched. I believe, deep down in my soul, that if this particular play is a completion, the game would have looked so much different. Seriously. I may have mentioned -- I thought the panthers were mature enough to get beyond this one sheeity call, shake this one play off --- which would have made a win super-spectacular. But to my dismay, I think this particular play took a lot of life out of our Panthers. I don't really understand it. Maybe one day we will hear more about this. Bottom line - I thought Panthers were good enough to overcome this bad call, so really - am more mad at the coaches for not figuring out how to get beyond this. But my mind still sees what would have happened if this had been called a completion. I really don't wanna think about this any more. too sad. There IS next yr,

    • @tdm1995
      @tdm1995 8 лет назад +1

      - a final thought... i have watched every panthers game over the last 4 or 5 yrs. When cam first came on board, he had a terrible habit of throwing too high. And it happened early in the super bowl again. As if no one noticed. The original issue was Cam throwing completely overhand -- he only found his accuracy once he went a little side-arm. Like maybe 7/8 overhand. I think when he's nervous, he reverts back to completely overhand. I wish one of the coaches would finally teach him to just give up that overhand BS. It sucks.

    Number one..... his hand was under the ball when he made the catch, it does appear that it might have made contact with the ground but non the less his hand was under the ball when he first made the catch.
    Number two.... the ball did moved as he turned so I would say that would be an incomplete pass BUT he regains possession of the ball a second time and from this angle it seems as though it never touched the groud. Making it a completed pass.
    Number 3..... From this angle, it looks like it might have been a catch. But from all the NFL's cameras this was the only angle they could provide? I don't think so.
    Conclusion; after this play Newton was sacked and Denver's defence scored a touchdown. So by not making the right call to begin with it affected the whole trajectory of this game.
    I'm a Green Bay Packer fan, so I remain unbiased to the call. But I really think this was a bad call from the refs. My opinion of course. And like I said there aren't any other angles to analyse this play from. Making it a difficult one to confirm it as a cath or not. But to me it was a catch.

Remember the score was 10-16 in the 4th quarter panthers had the ball with 4 mins left so take away that strip sack panthers would’ve been up by 1 point and who knows what would’ve happened at that point.

      +PantherNFL 00 ... by your own words, (1) "when it hit the ground" and (2) "it didn't move much" are the key points to getting this call right. If the ball contacts the ground and player loses control then the pass is incomplete. If you go frame-by-frame :22-:23, watching the seams on the football, it moves up towards Crotchery's elbow and rotates too. He did not maintain control.

    • @humblebeast0041

      Do you watch or play football because obviously his hand was under the ball and during contact the ball didn't move much which would have made it incomplete if it was to move a lot also ass he roled he had the ball to where it didn't hit the ground the ref who looked at the replay said it was a catch then the said it wasn't a catch and took the ref that said it was a catch out of the game even refs watching the game +players said that was a catch

    I was pulling for the Broncos...but this was a "Pure FAILURE" by the referee review panel. It's understandable that a very few calls can be inaccurate by the refs on the field, but when it goes up for review...they should get it right 100% if the camera angles show the ball the whole time. This play showed the ball the entire time....The review panel "FAILED" miserably in this case. If inaccuracies by refs on the field can't be corrected by the review panel, what's the point in having a review panel? Maybe the review panel is blind, lazy, or incompetent.

    The Cotchery Catch (aka the Cotch Botch) was the clear turning point in the game. Anyone could tell that was a catch, commentators on screen, NFL broadcast officials, etc. It was called incomplete and with Carolina backed up, two plays later was the strip-sack fumble TD that gave Denver a 10-0 lead. If called correctly, the Panthers have a first down and even if a fumble occurred two plays later it wouldn't have resulted in a TD from the 40 yard line. Even worse, is the replay official was a guy by they name of Jimmy Oldham who lives in the Denver area and whose wife was out the game as a die-hard Denver fan. There are even photos of her with head official Clete Blakeman at a Super Bowl after party. Again, easily researched by google and stinks to high hell that the NFL allowed a likely Denver fan to be the head replay official in a Super Bowl.

      +Knowledge Seeker Yeah, it did at 0:22. It barely did, but it still did nonetheless. The nose of the ball hitting the ground there was probably enough to warrant letting the incomplete pass call stand. What everyone seems to be forgetting here is that the replay officials need to be 100% sure that a call can be overturned before overturning it. The ball hitting the ground at the 22 second mark put enough doubt in their minds to not overturn the call. Also, don't blame the refs for Cam fumbling the ball later.

    • @jeremianderson4861

      +ITIJGIOJ If this was ruled a catch the score with 4 minutes left in the game would be 10 - 9 Panthers instead of 16 - 10 Broncos. Remember only two plays after this was Cam's first fumble which lead to a 2 yard scoop and score instead of a turnover at midfield.

    • @jeremianderson4861

      Devyn Ransom I’m surprised I haven’t heard more people talk about this play. This to me isn’t quite as bad as Dez Bryant’s robbery but still this was the momentum changer. Carolina was not themselves after this play. Not saying they could’ve won it all if they called it complete which I believe it was, but they would’ve had a very good chance to win against Denver

  • @jfb7201
    @jfb7201 6 лет назад +6

    first, I should apologize for even commenting over a year too late. that said, I'm a Panthers fan and this was a catch but it wasn't an unreasonably bad call for the ref to call it incomplete during the live play and even after the replay they stated that the call would stand not that it was confirmed which is crucial as three is a difference. saying the play would stand meant that there wasn't irrefutable proof either way in the replay to 100% prove or disprove the original call so they stick with the original call. I disagree with that but this play was close enough that it wasn't unreasonable to get it wrong. however, here's why I think it was the wrong call and this was a catch. #1 the ball might have touched the ground but that doesn't matter as the ball can touch the ground and still be a catch as long as the ground does not aid the player on making the catch and the player has control of the ball before it touches the ground. crotchety has the ball in his hand and against his body with no ball movement a step before he goes to the ground at which point his hand is under the ball as her hours the ground initially and has he rolls forward the tip of the ball is forced downward and touches the ground but his hand remains completely around the ball at its middle. His weight and momentum causes the ball to compress and has he rolls over the ball does move as his weight comes off the ball. the rule says when going to the ground a player "must maintain control of the ball all the way thru the catch" but that's not the entire rule as it goes on to say "while still remaining inbounds or until the ball his the ground" meaning he could bobble the ball as long as he wants unless he steps out of bounds without having control or until the ball hits the ground without the player having control of the ball. it should also be noted that the rule states a player must have control of the ball but does not define that the ball can't move. in other words a player can still be considered to have control of the ball when the ball is moving as long as it's not being bobbled. looking at the play objectively no one can honestly say that when crotchety hits the ground that it helped him catch the ball or in other words if he had not hit the ground that he would have let go of the ball or it would have moved in his hand at that point. So if the grind did not help him have control of the ball at that point then the ball touching the ground them doesn't matter. as he rolls over the ball does obviously move but the rule allows the ball to move without being considered not in the players control unless he hits out of bounds while this is happening. So if you want to argue that he doesn't have control of the ball since it's moving and say he's hobbling it that still doesn't make it not a catch since he's in bounds for this entire play then he has from the point the ball begins to move or is bobbled to secure the ball before it touches the ground and is declared dead to be awarded a catch which he does. in short - the ball touching the ground as he falls on it is irrelevant as it didn't help him catch the ball since he clearly had it the step before falling and all the way to the ground and his entire hand was either under the ball at its largest part or for those believing his hand was on the side still clearly grasped the entire ball at its largest point. the ball either moved as it lifted of the ground while he rolled meaning it was no longer touching the ground and was held up while on his back. or the ball started moving while against the ground with his entire hand and body against the ball which would mean if you magically removed the hard ground at that point it would be clear the ball was secured against his body with guys hand either under or around the side of the largest part of the ball meaning the player has control of the ball without the ground helping him and before he rolls forward allowing the tip of the ball to touch the ground. this would mean it's a completed catch at that point even is only a split second since he's on the ground. allowing the ball to touch the ground without having control of the ball or bobbling it is an incomplete pass but the rule does not require that the ball not be moving to be considered in control and no honest person can say that he didn't control the ball as he hit the ground with his entire hand around it's largest point while it was pressed against his body. So while hitting the tip of the ball on the ground may have caused it to move it's unrealistic to believe that he wasn't still in control of the ball the entire time it was in contact with the ground. the only point that anyone can question of he has control is after he begins to roll and the ball comes away from his body but since it's no longer in contact with the ground that's ok and it remains a live and catchable ball which he then resecures while on his back without allowing it to touch the ground a second time. Anyone disagreeing is welcome to their opinion but anyone arguing against a catch and claiming this is an open and shut obvious case and that their conclusion is the only one that could be right is wrong as even the referees didn't think it was 100% for sure not a catch after the replay review or he would have said "the call on the field was confirmed" meaning they were 100% sure instead of saying "the call on the field stands" meaning they couldn't be sure 100% either way after seeing the replay so they went with their first impression or first guess. So if professional referees at the highest level couldn't be sure after seeing a replay then any keyboard warrior commenting on RUclips and claiming they know better is an obvious moron or a condescending, stuck up bhole

      +anthony orgoglio check at exactly 1 minute and 1:13 to see the ball actual not even be in his hands anymore, then ask yourself can u overturn this call. check several times at 1:13 in particular, he actual tries to snatch the ball back in his hand real quick. this is not a catch and the NFL is actually pretty consistent that if you go to the ground and that ball isn't 100% secure, they ain't gonna give it to u. couple that with the fact that cotchery DROPPED 3 passes (he's already bobbling this one before he went down) on the night, and u know the right call is made.

    At 0:21 you can see that the ball hit the ground. At one point the ball was vertical and you can even see the bottom tip of the ball well into the grass. That being said, all NFL games are Fixed. Why do you think NFL is registered an Entertainment (i.e. WWE) and not a Sport? So they can rig the results.

    This is just another example of the Calvin Johnson rule in effect.

    I do not like the Panthers and I thought it was a catch. It was still early in the game.

    The ball hit the ground and moves. Every time that happens it's incomplete. The ball can touch the ground but when a receiver has control it doesn't move.

    0:22 is the reason the refs were saying it stands idk how commentators and fans missed that

      he had possession of the ball. he didn't use the ground to help him catch the ball and his hand was under the ball and it never hit the ground. NFL is rigged for Peyton. not much more to it smh...

      +Bom Trady How does nobody see at 0:22 the tip of the ball touches? Im a pats fan that didnt wanna see the broncos lose so theres no bias. yes his hand is under the middle of the ball but look at the tip. IF it didn't touch the ground it was by less than a mm so that can't overrule the call because it must be clear the ball didn't hit which it did. if a blown call makes the NFL rigged then I guess every other sport is rigged because we see it all the time in the NBA and MLB too.

    Refs made the correct call. Control was not maintained after the ball hit the ground.

      You must not be able to afford an HD tv. It clearly hits the ground then he loses control....again.

      +anthony orgoglio First of all, the fact that he bobbled it at all, means it is not a "clean catch." Second of all, the ball hits the ground. Pause it at 22 seconds.
