I am an Astros fan who moved to Chicago in 2016, where I became a fan of Kris Bryant. I've followed his career closely, even feeling excited about his move to Denver. Watching his decline and unfortunate injuries has been disappointing. Recently, he returned and went 3 for 6 against Boston. @KenKaniff-dw4jw I don't think that's true at all. Counsel is a great manager. Yall just happened to a sign another great manager. And while sure there are some decisions he made I questioned, the majority of his moves are good. Unfortunately the teams proformance isn't good enough. You could have the greatest manager in baseball history. But that doesn't man you'll win 100+ games. Cubs failed to build an offense for Counsel. Rather focused on pitching and defense and to Craig's credit it worked. Going into May we were 6th in all of MLB with over 20 wins. But then our offense fell off a cliff. Is he perfect? No, is the the best manager is baseball? Probably not. But he certainly isn't a bad manager

I hate to say it, but his mentality is weak sauce. I don't think it was always this way, but that's how it worked out. He would hit pretty well against weak teams, but as soon as the heat was turned up, he couldn't do it. His stats were padded heavily. He was also chasing just money, and couldn't care less about staying in Chicago. My guess is the injuries contributed to this mentality, but who knows. Overall, his drive to win just wasn't big after 2016 and the World Series win. The league also heavily figured him out. When he was a rookie, they didn't have him figured out.

The chronic foot issue is a killer. That's your base for hitting balance, footspeed, and getting that first step defensively. Back arthritis is probably somewhat manageable at the major league level with all the training staff they have. It's going to limit your swing and torque though. It's tough for a big man like Bryant to have both. I wish him luck but this should be a cautionary tale against a long term contracts for big men. He'll probably need periods off to control the foot issue. The arthritis probably gets more manageable with more use. So there could be two competing care regimens ping ponging him around.

Injuries affect everyone differently I was a stud in the US Army and sadly I had a knee injury after I got out and have never been the same as I had a surgery that replaced my cartilage in my knee and even though the pain is gone, I cannot even feel my knee at all no more which as you can guess makes hard for me to even be able to walk... My point is injuries can be very hard to come back from and perhaps there is more to the story with the injuries. Reminds me of Braden Holtby in hockey. His goaltending was invaluable to the Washington Capitals' successful Stanley Cup run in 2018, he was nicknamed 'Holtbeast,' and his name is going to be synonymous with "legend" in Washington sports lore for the rest of history. But eventually his time with the Capitals came to an end, and from 2020 to 2022, he had two short stints with two different teams, neither of which were very successful, owing to injuries that hindered his ability to play hockey at a professional level. He's currently a free agent, and it doesn't seem likely anyone will pick him up.

Bryant should talk to Don Mattingly. Back injuries have to be managed. Mattingly found a way to do it for 6 years. Bryant has to cut down his swing and become a gap to gap hitter. He'll get HR's here and there but should be looking to hit doubles.

Kris Bryant signed a ridiculous $182 million contract with the ONLY team offering said contract. I feel for him not being able to continue to play the game he loves , healthy. But for us working stiff fans, this is not the end of the world. He has a World Series championship ring, and has made millions. He shouldn't have anything to worry about financially. He parlayed his talent into a lifetime of financial security. I hope he regains his health, but if not, he's still getting paid, where the rest of us scramble to make ends meet and can't afford injuries or illnesses in our careers.....

Total orthopedic wreckage that will only get worse with advanced age. At least he got a Payday. This happens all the time to amateur and professional athletes. It's called the Human condition.

Although this year's injury was a freak one for sure. It's sad when such elite talent can't stay on the field. Or are on the field but not 100%. But thus is the nature of sports, it wreaks havoc on the body. Especially in the pros.
