Today is January 1. Today is The Festival of The Circumcision and Name of Jesus. This hymn is a good one to sing on this day. It goes with Psalm 8:1 and also Luke 2:21. We sing it to the tune, UNIVERSITY PARKWAY, composed Henry J. Gauntlett (1805-1876). And here is hoping that everyone reading this has a Blessed & Happy New Year.
@@rosalindmohnsen754 You're welcome. For years, Luke 2:21 was the Gospel for that day. I am an ELCA Lutheran. For years, this was the only Gospel Lesson with just one verse. In 1996, vs. 15-20 was added, which is the last part of the Christmas story. My former pastor talked about this one Jan. 1. He and his wife (also a pastor) were expecting their first child and had been debating what they would name it. After it was born (girl), they still hadn't picked a name. 24 hours later, the hospital told her she had to come up with a name for the birth certificate. He was not present. She wrote the name that popped into her head. Another sermon that I heard on this was "What's in a Name?" The pastor mainly talked about where and how our names are recorded from birth to death.
