    • @xavb7867

      EXACTLY!
      What this moment in film will Forever give us will be such natural, raw , you 'CAN'T teach this Acting' from Timothee and Armie.
      What completes it for me, are the angles not seen, but still allow you to feel so painfully and so real.
      In the moment Oliver takes Ellio in his arms you can briefly see that Oliver's eyes are welling with tears. It's a tender moment that if a camera did capture it I know it would have made the scene more painful to watch.
      Then the moment where Ellio watches the train pull away from the station. Seeing this from behind Ellio without showing his face is what I can only say is, 'What Real Pain IS'...Timothee's BRILLIANT acting delivers this moment like no other actor before. You know what that feeling IS, and there were no cameras to capture it but with Guadagnino's masterful direction you can feel this pain. Such Movie BRILLIANCE!

    i love this scene so much because on one hand we have elio. 17, heart seconds away from being broken, vulnerable and trying so hard to repress his emotions but they spill over just barely enough to notice because he is still so young. then we have oliver, the adult of the relationship. his facial expressions are much more intact because he is trying to be in control of the situation, trying to be strong for the both of them. however you can still see the pain and sadness behind his reassuring smile and it hurts just as much seeing elio’s wandering eyes and clearly disappointed body language. basically what i’m trying to say is the acting in this movie is phenomenal and these two actors are irreplaceable for their roles.

      But also it’s the moment that is prelude to this: when Oliver is watching Elio sleeping and their brief love plays out in a series of memories, the train horn sounds and then summons his attention, prematurely ripping him back into reality, the fact that he must leave. This links so beautifully with when Elio is watching the fire at the end, and his mother begins to call him after we sit and watch him fall apart: he looks over the same shoulder ( after breaking the fourth wall ) and acknowledges his name, again, being summoned into reality. I don’t know if it’s too far to suggest that it’s almost as though he doesn’t know his own name anymore.
      Urgh, that’s my “two cents”

      I still have a garment from my old lover. I also have his blood on a piece of cotton , from a tshirt.....a small drop or so from a nosebleed caused by tears and crying. I cut a small area from the T shirt he was wearing that day. I also have a box of " memories", an extra ring he gave me, a piece of wood he carved, notes, music and CDs with his voice and pictures. I am not sure what I want to do with all of those things. Expect to leave the US in a few years and I am too afraid to let these things go. Perhaps I should burn them, perhaps I should sink them in a lake. Perhaps I should send them back to him....and then wonder for the rest of my life if his wife will forgive him all over again. It's been a long time now, but not enough to heal. I am working on it and occasionally purge myself in tears: Movies like this one. Movies like many others. Movies of love and deception. Movies that remind me of how lucky I was, that I experienced some sort of " love". The caresses on my lips and the sound of my name, over and over again in his made up phrase in Spanish. I yearn the warmth of his hands close and on my face. Strangely, he was the first man I kissed in public and the first man I also held hands in public. Little did I know that a married man could bring me more out of the closet. As I reflect, that is the kinda life I would like to have....holding hands and displaying affection for my lover. Not all was lost. It redefined my convictions and I now know that I will never again become someone's secret, as secrets destroy lifes...

      CMBYNers, I don't think it's a matter of them not being able to kiss or be more expressive at the depot. Don't forget they talked about that event... so I'm sure they agreed to not make things any more difficult to say good-bye than necessary. I can't imagine how difficult it would be for Oliver to board that train had Elio said even one spoken word after the "Do you have your passport" which Oliver said yes to with a simple nod. When you look into your lovers eyes you see all you need to know. They did that. They held each other's gaze. on the train Oliver had to be just as dead as Elio was standing there watching the distance between he and his love grow wider and wider. Even on that bench, Elio may have expected to see Oliver come walking back to him, and saying, I just couldn't do it. There was no corner in Oliver's life in the States for Elio. Love doesn't conquer all. However, these two loved for the ages, it was a tacit love once Oliver boarded that train. While we can see Elio's hand come to his eyes, I'm sure Oliver was doubled over in pain on that train. He loved Elio with a more calm love; he had from the time he arrived. He was just waiting for Elio to grow to the feelings he had inside with more clarity. I will never understand Marzia's place in this movie. for me she's just a nuisance. An unbearable nuisance at that. She took away from Elio's joy of his first time with Oliver. For me the movie ends here with Annella and her son going home. I simply find the rest of the movie too much it collides too much with my own life and my emotions. I can't wipe Elio's tears and mine at the same time anymore. Kudos to the entire ensemble of "Call Me By Your Name". The Academy made a huge mistake when they didn't reward Chalamet's work. Lllater

      @@edgarrett8822 Hi Garrett, you know one of the great things this film does is causes us to revisit our own loves, gained, losses, etc. It now only allows us to look at the person we longed for, we also go back to that job opportunity or that business op we passed up the child we never had. Something unfulfilled in our lives. That thing that causes us the greatest joy and disappointment. - Elio, was at a crossroads. Why were so many men showing him desire? Was it them or did they see something in him he was not willing to see himself. Perhaps he only looked in the mirror from the edge rather than the full image. What was it abut Oliver that made him push his parents toward him? Did he have kind eyes or did Elio have stirrings when viewing the picture.? Something caused Elio to say, I want to see with this man what I am. - Elio was on a journey to find himself, when he did, he rejected what he found, at first. Then he hit smack in the face with this is who I am. Oliver is who I am. He had the fortitude to go after him even in pain. Remember that night left him in literal pain, But he mounted that bike and rode into town to be with Oliver. Oh, if we had such courage. - This film is a lesson to all of us about our lives. And yes, love can life you to heights unimagined, and that same love can take us to depths that literally suck the breath out us, and leave us in a heap on the floor. I wish the film had contained the entire 4+ hours. _ The film is for everyone. I am a straight female who adores this film. It is a timeless piece of cinema that was not given the proper treatment by the Academy. Maybe it was Sony's fault. I understand it hit the voters with only 3 days left. So most of them no doubt got to see more than the trailer for it. I pray that Luca and the team made it through this virus and will produce the sequels he envisioned. Be safe... thank you. _Atalanta

And I recognize that CMBYN forces me to deal with my own life. My own ups and downs. My own joy and hearbreak. My own successes and failures. Life is bittersweet. I've let people go that I now regret losing. I've kept some that should have been freed. This story of Ello and Oliver force me to revisit these days in my own life. And that's powerful. It's damning. But, it's freeing. Makes me see the painful price I call regret. Thats a debt that's never ever forgiven. You are tied to its strangling grip for eternity. To Film a story about true love is hard enough, but then between two men that both genders can live without cynicism, I doubt it's ever been made until now. One of it's awkward moments, like the first kiss, how does a man kiss another when you've only kissed a women. You subconsciously think it would feel different yet, it so fluid and nonchalant as your first romantic kiss ever. The film rolls out slowly, and beautifully makes you want this love to blossom. You love for them, you want them to love each other, it's as if all the stars allied just for this summer, simple two humans that are meant to be just as natural as nature intended. It's beautifully told, you don't want it to end, from the music , the colors, the lighting, it all sucks you in, I can't get enough. I've not seen all the movies nominated for an Oscar this year, but the one's I have don't compare. What I've seen so, far have great stories, acting but they all seem familiar and have been told before, this one's in a lifetime. I do hope this inspires others that love is love.

      Yup. The Oscar win was made even more poignant by the fact that the screenwriter (James Ivory, who won) finally got his long overdue recognition after an amazing career. Ivory is one half of the famed Merchant-Ivory duo (along with Ismail Merchant), and neither one had ever been recognized for their work until now. Also, at 89, Ivory is the oldest Oscar winner in any category ever as a result of this win.

Посмотрела фильм (НОНСТОП 4 РАЗА, опухла от слёз), на вокзале, Элио, рукой пытается протолкнуть ком в горле и не заплакать. Как сыграно! Пила капли.👍💋

    I just went back and watched this film for the 4th time and this scene knocked me off my feet. They had an entire conversation without speaking one word and we understood every part of it. Timothee’s acting is out of this world and Armie as well. I think Armie doesn’t get enough credit for his acting in the film.That scene just before the train as he reflects on saying goodbye and the look of grief on his face as he sat down next to a sleeping Elio on the bed. 💔 This movie is just too good.

    Cried for both Oliver & Elio in this scene.
    However, I was left being more worried for Oliver. Elio has his parents & a loving upbringing to carry him through a little better. It's clear that Oliver doesn't have the same. The only way he probably knows how to survive is to hide who he really is/what he really feels. Maybe he thinks he knows better & feels like he doesn't want to ruin Elio's life by being w/ him.
    Either way, in the book, the only thing they do is to cope being without each other for the rest of their lives, which is tragic.

    • @tuuliamoors4134
      @tuuliamoors4134 6 лет назад +112

      I agree that in many ways it's much worse for Oliver. Elio has many people who know and are supportive and love him, while nobody in Oliver's life back home knows, nor can they know, so he lacks all the support, acceptance and compassion that Elio has.

      @asteropea 6 лет назад +111

      I totally agree and I get mad when I see comments of people saying that Oliver was selfish, and that he just played with Elio. These people didn't understand a single thing about the story. Besides, Oliver was more mature, he experienced this love in other terms, he was scared of how intense the feelings were. "Do you know how happy I am that we slept together? - I don't know - Of course you don't" we are watching the story from Elio's perspective, but you could feel, if you pay attention, Oliver adored him. Completely.

    • @russelgriffin2709
      @russelgriffin2709 6 лет назад +28

      So true. The majority of comments focus on Elio's character, his grief and misfortune. After watching the movie several times, the Oliver character is just a rich, maybe more, for analysis.

    This gives me a feeling, almost like sick to my stomache, but sad to my stomache, so painful. I can’t freaking explain it, but when you know the time is up, you remember the moments when you were actually together. Every time I feel great, I think about how I will feel later, and how I’m in the moment now, but sometime I won’t be in that moment. And when time has passed, so quickly, you envy your past self, actually living that moment. Time passes by so quickly and it’s so crazy how sad it can make you, because that’s one thing you can never get back, moments. I hope someone out there knows what I’m talking about, but at the same time these thoughts consume me. I envy my past self actually living the moment with someone I loved, whom now I won’t see for a long time. It’s crazy ‘cause at one point in time that was actually present, isn’t that crazy? How time works? It’s mind boggeling and depressing

    Anyone who has experienced true love and heartbreak understands that just because your heart wants and yearns for love to last it doesn't always work out. Sometimes you have to sit and accept that you might not ever get the closure or the answers to help make sense of the loss of a relationship.
    One of the hardest things in life is to have love in your heart for someone and I mean that deep can't get you off my mind type of love for someone and come to terms with the fact that you may never hear from them again or that you may never experience a love like that again. It hurts bad, really unexplainably bad. To have a heart full of love and nowhere to put it is tragic and I wouldn't wish that on anybody.
    Life isn't always rainbows, unicorns and butterflies. I think that's why I can really relate to both Oliver and Elio in this movie. It was so easy for me to feel their pain because I'm living through pain just like this. Even with all the pain I wouldn't change things and I don't think Elio and Oliver would either. For it is better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all...

I still remember everything and that movie brought me back into those feelings of outstanding pain, several weeks ago I watched this movie and I still can’t get over of the feeling that something important is missing and I could never feel the same again, it’s breaking my heart

    this scene is so damn beautiful. so many nuanced movements from both timothee and armie. i love how no words are exchanged but so much emotion has passed between the two. the way elio holds onto oliver's shirt and taps on his back. the way elio nods as if to say ok, you can go now because i'll let you go now. the way oliver holds him so tightly. damn this was so good. it also makes me think about how their journey as actors was also coming to an end and i wonder how much of this scene was the two of them expressing the friendship they developed as people over the course of the few months. it's a no wonder that they're still close to this day. they were truly wonderful dance partners. you have the wild and free elio and the more restrained yet deep oliver. i love it.

    I can actually relate to this movie. In 2017, I fell in love with a boy on a cruise and he fell in love with me too. We were together for only five days, but in those five days I have never felt that much love from someone. It broke our hearts saying goodbye to each other after the vacation we both cried in fact. We kept in contact for a year, but we recently stopped talking. It goes to show that love is a very powerful thing.

    Another sad moment comes one or two scenes after this, when Elio walks into his room for the first time after Oliver has left. We see it from behind (genius directing) because we don't have to see his face to know what he's thinking and feeling as reality hits. The room is empty now, "the usurper" really is gone and he's not coming back. Elio would give anything to have him still there.
