- Juliet (Keira Knightley) watches Mark's (Andrew Lincoln) video footage from her wedding which reveals his true feelings about her.
Love Actually (2003). Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connects us all: love. Among the characters explored are David (Hugh Grant), the handsome newly elected British prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer (Martine McCutcheon), Sarah (Laura Linney), a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry (Alan Rickman), a married man tempted by his attractive new secretary.

Absolutely gorgeous
I love it when he says "yes" three times just like Mr. Darcy said "I love you" three times. also, unrequited love is gut wrenching.
There is absolutely nothing worse in the universe than unrequited love. The worst of all tragedies, because unlike other terrible things in life, it empties the soul - and to move on you realise you can never be your old self.
But unrequited love is the only true love
Its also the most beautiful personal feeling in the world, once you accept your faith and don't seek anything else in return. You know in your heart despite everything that couldn't be yours, your feeling of love for that someone will always be yours, nobody can take it from you. It brings a range of emotions within, makes you calm, mature and patient, it makes you an artist, a poet and a lover.

It's creepy and disgusting!! She's married!!!
@@Lulu-mj2fi It's a bit obsessive but hardly "disgusting." As men are in the position of having to pursue, I don't think a woman can understand this pain. Clearly, he loved her long before she was married. The edited video we are shown is simply a way of telling the story visually, which is the essence of film-making. Many men hold such things in our hearts and memories.
@@composeratlarge it's creepy and gross because clearly he couldn't say anything because his bestfriend was already in a relationship with her first so the obsessiveness is weird and immature. Total lack of respect, boundaries and maturity
@@Lulu-mj2fi His mouth wasn't stapled shut. Clearly he could have said something but chose not to out of respect for his best friend and for her. Once it was out in the open, he shows up later with signs explaining the situation and says goodbye. She follows him into the street and kisses him but he lets her go. Seems like he was the respectful one, after all. As for boundaries, she is the one who barged in and started rummaging through his things. Obsession is a psychological phenomenon that spans our lives from early childhood to infirmity and has nothing to do with maturity.
@@composeratlarge yeah she was obnoxious too. But no, obsession is not normal after adolescents! A mature adult wouldn't be so weird and immature.
when you're shy/introverted and in love - I dunno Lincolns acting is SO good, not looking her in the eye, the tension in his body, the redness, the breathlessness, you can tell his heart is probably beating a mile a minute, he's so embarrassed - and then when he has to expel all the tension by going for a walk (side note: yeah as a rational adult he should have worked through his obsession/infatuation in a healthy way to get over her, but unfortunately he indulged it lol)
It's not love. It's infatuation. You can't be in love with someone you're not in a relationship with. It's something I wish I knew when I was younger. I would have saved a lot of time and suffering.

@@ameliecarre4783 A love triangle does not necessarily mean a person is undecided between two others, it means there are two people who like her and she may be perfectly happy with one and not even consider the other, but still feel for them and be aware of their feelings. There is no absolute definition as to what constitutes a love triangle and what not. Also: so what if someone wants to interpret it as romantic between her and Mark? Personal interpretation is not a crime.
@@ameliecarre4783 Pretty sure you'll also be mocked hard if you keep getting upset at every interpretation of a story that does not align with your own. And you will most definitely be mocked for comparing how someone feels about a romantic comedy ship with Dicken's social commentary on Victorian child labour. Love Actually is not that deep. Maybe lighten up a little and allow for other opinions to be valid alongside your own.
@@ameliecarre4783 It's commonly known that Love Actually is outdated. Not only for the bit about the triangle. Most rom coms are incredibly trivial and formulaic. They do however reflect popular ideas about real life relationships, wherefore it's good and important to allow dysfunctional and toxic relationships to be seen on screen. It's part of our reality. If someone identifies with the triangle on an emotional level, why tell them off for it? Just because it does not sit well with your morals? It's their own perception of the situation, based on their own feelings. No one says it's a good thing to glorify these relationships, but just yelling at people that it's wrong what they are seeing is not helpful. And while we are on the literary comparison: Dickens purposefully used hyperbolic and borderline grotesque characters and situations to draw attention to the misery of working class life. He did not, however, go around preaching and moralizing. Fiction can be trivial and entertaining on the surface, while imparting important messages in the subtext, while still allowing for people to choose which mode they want to engage with at any given time. If someone wants to enjoy A Christmas Carol as merely a Christmas story without getting into a discussion on Victorian labour politics, the world is not going to end. The human brain should be flexible enough.
@@ameliecarre4783 Okies :)
A very genuine display of emotions. Very good, natural, fresh acting close to reality..... Actually.
This was actually the original title of the film.
Criticize it if you like, but this is my favorite part of Love Actually; it fully captures - as the young boy says in the movie - the total agony of being in love.
Okay but he's not in love, he barely knows her; as she said, they've hardly even spoken to one another, and I'm sure even less so before the wedding. You can't be in love with someone you don't know, only attracted to their appearance. Finding someone attractive is one thing; obsessively ogling the bride on film instead of filming the wedding, editing it deliberately to focus solely on her, and then keeping it for his own personal self-pitying wank bank is creepy and disgusting, not romantic.
@@JohnGrahamDoe Okay, John Boy, thanks for teaching me about love.....sounds a little boring, though. I think the crazy attraction we feel is sometimes worth celebrating. Because we are human and the love we sometimes feel is not enduring, but the memory of it sure can be.
it's a Christmas movie@@JohnGrahamDoe
@@JohnGrahamDoe The thing is people don't really go deep when looking at this stuff. They really do take it at surface level. This is how we are as a society. Most romance movies describe very toxic relationships to begin with. Probably it is one of the reasons in a lot of relationships people have unrealistic expectations of their partner.
Keira being one of the most beautiful women. Stunning.
Rick doesn't know yet how difficult life will be soon
This scene always gives me goosebumps. It's so unimaginably terrible when you're unhappily in love with someone. I'm feeling the same way as the guy in the movie right now. And it hurts so much...
He’s not unhappily in love. He’s unhappy he can’t be with her.
@@Liofa73 That's exactly the same...
I had this happen when I was 19 or so, I got a serious crush on a girl who was 17 and told myself it was inappropriate, I wasn't established enough, etc... then I learned she was already dating a 24 year old law student. I tried to ignore my feelings, but I would compare every other girl I met to her, which was super toxic. I thought, if they can't make me feel the same, it's not worth it. Funny enough, I never did feel it again, probably because I wasn't an anxiety-ridden teenager anymore. 15+ years later and I still haven't had a girlfriend. I rarely leave the house either, so my chances aren't looking good. I don't even know where I would go to meet people. That's probably why I watch so many romance movies lately.
@@carterblunt4192Dear Carter, that sounds very sad. What happens to me is that there is a man who is in love with me.

Apparently you feel the same way about that girl from your teenage years. You've inflated her and now no one else can keep up.
We're both obviously at an impasse. Now it's time to get out of there.
I have to forget about this unattainable man and you have to socialize. This is the only way you can meet a woman who touches your heart. I wish you good luck with it!

However, you have to leave the house to experience it...
He is not in love with her. He is obsessed with the idea of her. He hardly knows her. This is not love. This is infatuation and a 30 year old man should not have stuff like this at his age. It is so childish and honestly quite creepy.

When she says his name, then says I know you are his friend, if you look very closely, you can see his whole face and body look hopeful that she will say she has feelings back then when she goes I know you have never warmed to me he suddenly deflates and realises its not what he wanted to hear. How we misunderstand feelings...
"But you never talk to me. You always talk to Peter. You don't like me." I don't think the feelings are unrequited at all. It's just bad timing. You can almost hear a hint of hurt in her voice that shows that she also in fact has romantic feelings for him too. Almost as if she's saying "well maybe it could have been you but you never even bothered to get to know me".

It was my first year in college when i watched this movie in theater. I watched this movie with a girl whom i like so very very much, she's so gorgeous to the point i was really nervous when she's around me, i can't barely eat my lunch when she look at me. The thing is, the first time i was meeting her, i didn't even pay attention on her existence. I started to like her due to at that time a friend of mine borrowed my brand new Nokia phone to test the camera and she started taking pictures of anything, including a picture of the girl whom i later fell in love with. So when i arrived at home, checked the phone and started deleting all the pictures taken, i saw her pictures, and instantly fell in love to her beauty, I couldn't delete her pictures. So, I started asking who she is, and asked my friend to introduce me to her. Long story short, she was already taken, and in a relationship with her boyfriend since high school, so i keep my distance in a friend zone without her knowing my true feelings. At some point when she had a heated argument with her boyfriend because he was being so possessive, she asked me out to a movie. I thought we'll be watching it with another friend of her. Yet when i met her on the theater it just the 2 of us, she choosed this movie. TBH at that moment i didn't even knew what was the title of the movie, or what's the movie was all about due to i was so frickin nervous being left alone with her. I only remember this particular scene and when this man told keira he loved her with his hand writing on the door step. At this particular scene, she held my arms and told me, she feels so comfy and like being with me, she also wondered if we can be more than friends. I was so dumbstruck n didn't know what to answer, so i kept silent and let her held my hand until the end of the movie. I took her eat some lunch at KFC, and told her "I do really want to say 'yes' to all of it, but i am afraid you're confused about your feelings toward me and mistaken it into something else. Take a step back so u can look all of it throughly, I'll be a phone call away if u need me" it was the hardest and bitter KFC i swallowed in my life. Took us 9 years to be together, though we took separate ways eventually, i think it was due to i was at my final year of my post graduate, told her to wait, because if i didn't finished my theses in 6 months the university will be dropping me out but her time is running out. So this movie has the sweetest memories on me. Fate works in a mysterious way, sometimes destiny is entwined but never joined, some life are stranger than fictions.
