i met James Ivory and Ismail Merchant in a film class that I had in New York City many years ago. It was a wonderful, memorable experience, as they talked wtih Uma Thuman about their movie The Golden Bowl.

More importantly, they've been surrounded by greatness - consider, for instance, their work with Kazuo Ishiguro long before he won the Nobel. Their films offer a beautiful but sincere counterpoise to (and escape from) the decadence surrounding us today, conceived as it has been by Jacques Barzun and others. Well-deserved indeed.

James Ivory stared his career by making a number of wonderful movies set in India with his professional and later domestic partner Ismail Merchant, they later transitioned to Academy award winning Classics under "Merchant-Ivory Productions". This movie is special to him... Because in his life he was never open about being homosexual and by writing this screenplay he remembered how deeply he loved Ismail Merchant and saw this as an opportunity to break free from the restrictions to pure love. All the people he once loved are gone now... Yet this triumph is more important than ever.
The thing is, In the book there is so little dialogues, everything is in Elio's mind. So adapting this book to the screenplay took James a lot of works.
My heart breaks seeing Chadwick Boseman up on that stage like that...you can tell he's struggling to just stand there...taking up all his energy. I'm suffering from long covid syndrome and I'm incredibly weak too...I wish I could give him a hug.
Call Me by Your Name is the movie I'll never be tired to rewatch again and again. It's so beautiful, every scene is like crafted so nicely and also the musics, love it to the brim!
Weirdly its the only movie that I'll never watch again. It physically pains me to even think about it. The first time was such a heartbreak, I don't think I'll ever be able to rewatch it.

Logan was my favorite movie of 2017. But I'm glad James Ivory won this. That monologue at the end was fantastic. Hopefully this won't be the last time the Academy recognized comic book films because they deserve so much more attention
Agreed that scene with Ellio and his father is the best in any movie. It was so poignant and so well acted it's brilliant. It brings you back to your first love and the absolute agony that comes when it ends. When you're young you feel everything so much more. His speech is so true and beautiful. This movie is in my top 5 of all time. I it watch all the time. Timothee Chalamet is bar none one of our greatest actors.❤
I play the oscar acceptance speech over and over again. Timothee is on the verge of tears, and you can see Armie trying to hold his back. The joy on Luca's face. It is a wonderful youtube video. I watched the film again last night and broke down again at the end. They and us have moved on but the film's emotional impact will effect everyone far into the future. Armie said that making the film was an experience none of them will ever forget. My dvd is a treasured possession.

I took the film to show to a friend. I soon became aware that he was as emotionally moved as I was. Timothee being tickled tickled by Oliver (yes he is ticklish) his giggles are wonderful. Their first kiss. The Peach scene "I don't want you to go". The Father's mesmerizing speech to his Son, The two of us dissolving into tears again at the fireplace scene. No matter how many times I run the dvd and try to brace myself emotionally for what is coming. I just have to surrender to it. Everyone who has watched it, must have been captivated by it. For those who have not seen this beautiful film, I urge you to lose yourself it 's timeless story, of love found and love lost.
Call Me By Your Name is beautiful from all angles and only gets better with repetition. Every element, the music, the scenery (oh my word, the scenery), and the acting. It’s such a vulnerable story that I was left busted in the end. Well deserving.

The thing is, In the book there is so little dialogues, everything is in Elio's mind. So adapting this book to the screenplay took James a lot of works.

Call Me by Your Name is the movie I'll never be tired to rewatch again and again. It's so beautiful, every scene is like crafted so nicely and also the musics, love it to the brim!
Weirdly its the only movie that I'll never watch again. It physically pains me to even think about it. The first time was such a heartbreak, I don't think I'll ever be able to rewatch it.

Logan was my favorite movie of 2017. But I'm glad James Ivory won this. That monologue at the end was fantastic. Hopefully this won't be the last time the Academy recognized comic book films because they deserve so much more attention

Agreed that scene with Ellio and his father is the best in any movie. It was so poignant and so well acted it's brilliant. It brings you back to your first love and the absolute agony that comes when it ends. When you're young you feel everything so much more. His speech is so true and beautiful. I watched the film again last night and broke down again at the end. They and us have moved on but the film's emotional impact will effect everyone far into the future. Armie said that making the film was an experience none of them will ever forget. My dvd is a treasured possession.

I took the film to show to a friend. I soon became aware that he was as emotionally moved as I was. Timothee being tickled tickled by Oliver (yes he is ticklish) his giggles are wonderful. Their first kiss. The Peach scene "I don't want you to go". The Father's mesmerizing speech to his Son, The two of us dissolving into tears again at the fireplace scene. No matter how many times I run the dvd and try to brace myself emotionally for what is coming. I just have to surrender to it. Everyone who has watched it, must have been captivated by it. For those who have not seen this beautiful film, I urge you to lose yourself it 's timeless story, of love found and love lost.
