I agree with this greatly. Even if he has utilized media training, this level of compassion comes from the heart and soul. Timothee is so intelligent and has a kind heart.@@Ice.muffin
Any bilinguals will tell you it’s just bc we are thinking and then translating before we speak. We are literally already thinking of the next phrase by the time we’re halfway through the last.
Sure. I grew up switching between three languages, so I know what you mean. But in Timmy’s case, he does it when speaking English too. I don’t mind it at all, I just find it adorable and fascinating
elle92 Well, I don’t think it’s like that for anyone. I’m bilingual and I’m currently learning french and each time I’m speaking in one of the three languages I’m thinking in that language, I don’t translate at all. My brain just knows how to switch on and off between portuguese, english and french I guess. It’s interesting to know other bilinguals don’t have the same experience as me. Honestly, I think in his case, his brain just goes through stuff a little bit faster, don’t think it has anything to do with speaking multiple languages.
mariana ibs yes honestly me too. If for example I’m switching in a English speaking environment, my brain is going to and my thoughts and everything are in English, I don’t reallly translate from French. And even when I’m in French, I can think in some of my other languages so it must really depends on the people and how they learned their second language :))
I'm a screenwriter and I'm writing a script in the style of the French new waves films of the 60s specifically for Timothee in the lead role, let's all hope I get the financing to get this made
I really love how good this interviewer is. He’s letting timothee make mistakes and correctly him politely without constantly interrupting him, I think he’s using slightly simpler words to help timothee and he’s being so charming! I should watch French television more if interviews are like this 😂
I find it super stressful myself, because I'm in exactly the same position as him, as someone who can speak the language to native level but at the same time constantly forgetting words or using expressions incorrectly. I see my own flaws in his French and it makes me cringe a lot. But I guess nobody is looking down at him for it so I should learn to relax about my own level of French.
U have to emerse yourself with the culture, watch french films, study the culture, learn the history, make french friends, do pimsleur, and teach yourself french the book, take coarses with tutors,
@@fabianapereira8631 French is not really his "native" language. He grew up completely bilingual with a french dad an an american mother in New York, so at home french and english, but mostly english in his everyday life. English is definetly more his "native" language, but he speaks both since is early childhood. I think the change in his voice is just because of how french pronunciation works, it's a much more "flowing" language with lots of connections between words and letters and a different way of how letters and syllables sound when put together.
HAHAHAHHAHA Literally me!!! It’s 3 am and I already watched the whole interview looking at the subtitles, repeating words that timothée said that just sound beautiful and getting excited in the 3 words I understood on this whole thing. I must look so stupid from the outside but I’m just having fun
Most European countries of their talk shoes does that lol. I grew up in Norway it be same way. Sure some laughing moments but depends tho and not so much like American Talk shows does
Randomly stumbled on this, and clicked to hear him speak French… ended up staying the whole interview. As a multilinguist, I feel his pain when you can’t remember the words from one language to the next. But he did a fantastic job. His responses are very eloquent and well thought out. Never saw the appeal of him before, but now I’m a little persuaded. There’s definitely a charm about his character.
I’m multilingual and it’s so annoying when you’re speaking in one language and all of a sudden a word or phrase from another language “intrudes.” It throws me off.
2:58 “I have no confidence” My heart just SHATTERED AND IM A MESS because you can see that he really feels that way by how he interviews :( he’s THE best and needs to know it! I can’t wait for the day he realizes all he has done
Beautiful boy was such a great film and timothee was great in it 👏He should be confident that he has the real in him and it beams in his smile and overall energy. His real human expressions and emotions and love for life. I just hope the fakes that are in hollyowood and the evils do not taint his beautiful soul. He is handsome, unique, talented and intelligent. Good luck Timothee and stay you.🙏❤
I think you didn't understand what he meant (im french btw ) The interviewer asked him if anyone has told him that he was being arrogant and mean just bc he's famous and he said no i have no confidence but he didn't mean self-confidence he meant that he didn't change and became haughty bc of fame. I think he didn't choose the right translation so it was confusing but in french when you say "i have no confidence" ( in that context obviously) it can means that you're not arrogant ( im sorry for the mistakes im not english and if you have any question just ask) :))
as a bilingual (french and english) I feel his struggle in remembering certain words or phrases in french, i also pepper my convos w english word lol but am mad impressed he did this interview, gives me confidence to speak french around more people than just my fam!!
I'm trying to learn French, but I know nothing about the language, is timothee's accent good? Does he speak like a native? I'm bilingual so i can get his struggle haha.
C’est plus simple de prendre un peu des deux côtés, whenever it works best. Des fois tu commences une phrase en une langue et tu figure out that it would be cleaner to finish in English.
@@si_quest his grammar was awful. The show is in France so I doubt the french viewers were able to understand the entirety of the interview. His accent was somewhat good though
I love that he took the time to say that he was portraying a human being that has an addiction, not an "addict" as the interviewer was saying. Timothee is such a good person. ❤
as a trilingual speaker I can attest to the fact that you CAN have a perfect accent in multiple languages but that our vocabulary is limited due to the fact that we must be able to say 1 word or phrase in many different ways
Not necessary.... Just depends on how much u practice...more u practice better ur accent will be... And watch more movies or shows in that language... Perfect to make the accent right...
Why does accent matter? If it doesn't interfere with comprehension. I don't expect a French tourist in England to speak with a London accent! When they say 'ouse' instead of 'house' I still understand it perfectly. It would seem strange for someone to speak in an affected accent.
This is one of my favourite Timothee interviews! Not just because he's speaking French but because I love the fact that he talks about drug addiction in such an empathetic and profound way. I think a lot of people assume drug addicts have "brought it on themselves" but I agree with him saying that there is a lot of pain the world and there aren't easy solutions, but bringing awareness and understanding is the first step.
Or I would die trying. Tim is More than just physically, photographically beautiful. He has a vibrant, sensual inner spirit that actually astounds and mesmerizes you. And it's intoxicating.
3:54 every time I come across this the awkward fist bump the interviewer is holding up that Timothée doesnt notice kills me. And the camera lingers on it just sitting there I cry every time 😂😂😂
No interviewers and tv hosts actually do that move when they want to silence the audience and signal them to be quiet And it’s clear that he is sitting a little far from him
Another very good point (are there any bad points about him?) He isn't just superficially "glib" - running off at the mouth because he can - because he gets brought onto a show as a 'popular' guest currently in the limelight. He is actually Bright - and Intelligent. And actually interesting to listen to because of that.
I love how he switched to one language to another!! He's so cute!!!! I mean, he's always nervous during interviews in English, and he must be a LOT more nervous about french ones! Btw he's such a sweet guy, I love him even more when he speaks French.
He's very awkward here in my opinion. His French is actually perfect but he lacks confidence and seems unsure of himself so his french doesn't come across as well
As a French teacher this is very helpful for my students: Nice and clear, with "real-life" examples of the translanguaging that happens all the time... "comme on dit en anglais...", asking for clarification, et ainsi de suite.
Yuno Ssef lmao if you watch enough of his interviews you will see he’s supremely awkward. I like that he’s reppin for us awkward peeps out here lol. I both love his awkwardness/anxiousness but even as a super fan it still makes even me uncomfortable sometimes hahaha but it’s relatable
I remember that I started learning French one year ago and I wanted to understand this interview soooo bad just because I love him lol. Now I can understand all he is saying and I’m just so happy
As a french speaker and as i know how much french is difficult, i can say that his doing very good, keep going on learning french, how do you find my english tho
@@DeLorean-vo4st Your English is better structured grammatically than how most Americans write. In fact, had you not mentioned that you were French, I would have assumed you were either English or American.
It happens overtime, all bilingual people go through the same. If the country where you live at has people speaking only one language you will eventually get rusty on the other one. Every time I have to translate something I realize how much fluency I have lost XD. If I do not have to translate anything, then my mind thinks I speak as fluently as a native would... but that is quite far from reality once I open my mouth lol. Kind of sucks... it is normal tho :)
Maryth R lol this is exactly me. i may sound like i know the language (english) super well but honestly i have so much to learn after all. i speak finnish as my mother tongue, but my momma speaks both! :)
That's common. My French teacher showed us a study that multilingual people's voices often sound different when they speak different languages. My French teacher, for example, has a much higher voice in French than in English.
my voice drops so much when I speak Russian(just makes speaking much easier otherwise i get a horrible accent) then when I speak English it stays kinda neutral, goes higher when I speak Latvian(mother tongue), and German is a whole other mess 😭 just the nuances of each language I guess
what started as being interested in hearing Timothée speak in French, has become an insightful and informative interview about the drug epidemic. I am filled with respect, awe, and soberness for him taking initiative in sharing his perspective on the issue and his actions in bringing awareness and compassion to those fallen victim to drugs as a false solution.
Its funny to hear him speaking with a french accent but having trouble nevertheless. Its like hearing someone who sounds like they speak english as their native language yet doesn’t master the language
@@iRosati I know, I am French so when I say first language I mean a language he is not used to speaking, I don't mean native language or mother tongue or whatever

Adhd Billionaire Adhd Billionaire Yeah it kind of makes sense. Good language learners try to catch/imitate the language’s characteristics. Like French is such an expressive language I’d imagine some learners would pick up the way/tone of speaking like French natives.
And you speak french? Bc if you have an “expectation so high on men” you supossed to be also a “perfect girl” cause if you ask that in men, you have to be that to…
newleyadmirer newleyadmirer I’ve noticed he seems tired at the graham norton show which is understandable, he went to Paris and came back on the same day
Graham is very irreverent and he shared the couch with three other actors. Maybe that made him less comfortable. He is just a kid after all. A very talented and charming kid.
Maybe he is less shy and awkward when speaking french, yes that is a thing. I'm a spanish speaker and very shy, but when i speak english i'm way more confident and comfortable (even when i'm not fluent).
I had a similar viewpoint. But two things have happened recently with him. One - he starred in 2 more serious films The King and Dune, and definitely made it clear he can act. Second, he is getting older. In my opinion he is most definitely "Maturing" beautifully. He is MORE attractive today (in my opinion) than he was as just a cute little boy running around in superficial, shallow scenes.
As someone who was addicted to opiates for 22 years I can personally verify it is pure hell and emotional pain. It's living in a world full of light but hiding in the darkest corners. No hope, no dreams, no feelings. You're completely numb and yet at the same time in so much misery. You wake up every day wondering why you woke up at all. I have a little over a year clean now and I'm still trying to pick up all the broken pieces. They say "one day at a time" no!!! For me it's one minute at a time. To all those still struggling with addiction I can't tell you that you can do it. You can stop. You already know that but what I will say is when the pain gets great enough I hope you put the shovel down, don't keep digging till you get to 6 feet! Love to all those sober and not sober!!!
Timothy... if you ever find this... thank you for giving recovering addicts a voice. I found Timothy as an actor by watching Beautiful Boy - and felt he portrayed addiction just as it is. He did addiction 'justice'. It IS difficult to RECOVER. We DO NOT want to be addicted. We ARE trying to get better. That film is an amazing piece of work.
ck this is in France. They have different humour, and they try to only cheer and speak when they aren’t talking. It’s a more respectful crowd, but it might seem weird for Americans, since the American default seems to be obnoxious
Being half French myself I think his French is very impressive, especially his accent and pronunciation. I sadly had other languages I had to learn in school so I'm stuck with a more childish vocabulary and grammar but this kind of makes me want to pick the language up again and improve.

Perhaps it's in his nature as well to consider things with a certain level of depth, and not the merit of simple "interview training"....

@@fabianapereira8631 French is not really his "native" language. He grew up completely bilingual with a french dad an an american mother in New York, so at home french and english, but mostly english in his everyday life. English is definetly more his "native" language, but he speaks both since is early childhood. You can be not confident and have good self-esteem. I think he's just shy/introvert. But yes I hope he knows what a great actor he is!!:)

My voice goes higher when I speak Korean, lower when I speak Russian, lower when I speak German, and neutral when I speak English
