    Little River Band (LRB) is a rock band originally formed in Melbourne, Australia in March 1975. The band achieved commercial success in both Australia and the United States. They have sold more than 30 million records; six studio albums reached the top 10 on the Australian Kent Music Report albums chart including Diamantina Cocktail (May 1977) and First Under the Wire (July 1979), which both peaked at No. 2. Nine singles appeared in the top 20 on the related singles chart, with "Help Is on Its Way" (1977) as their only number-one hit. Ten singles reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Reminiscing" their highest, peaking at No. 3.
    Little River Band have received many music awards in Australia. The 1976 line-up of Glenn Shorrock, Graeham Goble, Beeb Birtles, George McArdle, David Briggs and Derek Pellicci were inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame at the 18th Annual ARIA Music Awards of 2004. Most of the group's 1970s and 1980s material was written by Goble and/or Shorrock, Birtles and Briggs. In May 2001 the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), as part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, named "Cool Change", written by Shorrock, as one of the Top 30 Australian songs of all time. "Reminiscing", written by Goble, received a 5-Million Broadcast Citation from BMI in 2020. Peace out.

    LRB were massive in Australia in the 70s and early 80s. Lead vocalist Glenn Shorrock was a big star in the 60s with his band The Twilights and was part of successful duo Axiom, with Brian Cadd in the early 70s, so he was already an established star when LRB were formed. They hit the big time in the US in the early 80s with hits like Reminiscing, Night Owls and Lady, and went through numerous personnel changes to the point where no original members remain. American Wayne Nelson joined the band early on and he remains the “owner” of the name Little River Band and the band continues under that name to this day. The “classic” lineup of vocalist Shorrock and main songwriters Beeb Birtles and Graeme Goble have reformed at times and toured playing all of the classic early hits, of which there were many. This band is well worth a deep dive, particularly the first incarnation with Shorrock up front.

      Welp Here We Are On RUclips As an Aussie I grew up listening to them and we had a few of their albums when I was a kid. They truly were one of this country’s biggest acts, around the same time AC/DC were entering the world.

    • @theghost6412
      @theghost6412 2 года назад +1

      Wayne Nelson stole the name because the band didnt think of copyrighting it. They didnt expect some stupid upstart to steal their name and attempt to play all their classics. The US courts actually allowed the twerp to steal the name, however they couldnt stop the real band members from prohibiting him from playing the vast majority of their music since he didn't have his name on the songs titles.
      So Wayne ended up with pretty much an empty band name with a very limited song list, and no talent to make any new music.
      The trio now go under the copyright band name B.S.G. and sing all their songs to their hearts content. However what Wayne did is still a dire sore point and Australia looks at him as a traitor and thief.

      And I am 58 years old, an American, and someone who grew up in Northern California and they were huge here as well. LRB had several top 10 hits and more or less dominated the American pop music charts from 1977 to about 1982. I hear they are still around, but I am not sure if any of the original members are still in the group.

    Ok, I'm 10 yrs yall's senior, so totally lived the Grunge scene with yall, but I cut my yacht rock teeth on LRB and like like, but as a new 14 yr old music expert I to thought that they rocked.....because despite their lame sappy 70's pop stamp, they did rock!! I hear CSN in the harmony, some talented jamming throughout, bridges with some psychedelic tones, and then they wrap it up with a dramatic tempo change. I've been to thousands of live concerts, big and small, and one of my fav things to do when at any show is ignore the band for a few verses and turn around and focus on those attending the show and see how "into it" they are. Look, they bought tix so are probably fans, but then I look for the diversity of those getting into it, and that will say a lot on how well the band is pulling them in. For yall's first listen, I have to say, y'all were, and I fully invite you to watch your own vid, but y'all were sincerely digging it. That's because it's pretty good, and all due respect to LRB, kinda better than the LRB to follow.

    You can NOT go wrong with these guys. I know they are Aussies, but this is classic Southern Rock. I said that once and someone thought I was nuts. But this IS some of the best bluesy, jazzy, funky, rock music that I would definitely call Southern Rock as in the Allman Bros or Little Feat tradition. Guess we should ask who are their biggest influences. Vocals are amazing, distinctive.

    The guy with no shirt is Ric Formosa. He did the long lead guitar playing. He didn't last long. He left to wanting to do orchestration. Guy, on the left is Graeham Goble, who wrote this song. Next to Graeham is Beeb Birtles, Ric, lead singer Glenn Shorrock, and bass player is Roger McLaughlin. Roger left the same time as Ric. David Briggs took over as lead guitarist. George McArdle took over as bass player. That became the classic lineup that is now in the Australian Rock and Roll HOF.

    The Little River Band had plenty of hits. They are known for another song called Reminiscing.
    "It's a long way there" is a killer song. One of those 8 minute classics that popped up in the early to mid 1970s.
    Harmonies are known around the world - as good as any other harmony driven band,
    Glen Fry from the Eagles was a fan when The Little River Band was the first Australian band to break into the US market in a big way. Glen Fry played with the Little River Band on some of their live shows,
    Unfortunately, there was a trademark copyright issue that surface later, where one of the later band members ended up with full control over the name "Little River Band" and prevented the original founding members of the band from using the name.
    Stephen Housden then set up a cover band in the US called Little River Band and received royalties and licensing fees. People that attended the concerts were often disappointed because they expected to see the original band with their classic harmonies, Shorrock on lead vocals etc.

    LRB had a string of big hits that followed this opening album during the 70's and 80's. They did a lot of their recordings in LA and touring in the U.S. They have a greatest hits album that you can select tracks from that you can react too. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. They were even bigger than AC/DC back then in Aussieland. I suggest Cool Change, Lady, Night Owl for starters.
