I found that when I want random loose strokes, I use my non dominant hand. It really works because the dominant hand wants to control and make specific tight strokes. Try it. It’s great for highlight and adding accent or contrasting color details.
This is such a great tip! I was about to start a piece and decided to paint the entire thing with my non dominant hand - something I’d never done before - really happy I saw this. Thank you! 🤎
I can not thank you enough for this little exercise. Tried it and had trouble loosening up at first but then started to really let my perfection go. The real "wow" moment was when I took them apart. Each piece was something I would have never have created on my own.
Well Well Well this is great! I have a long story 65yrs but don’t have the energy to explain. I have been searching for over 12 months for what where and when I actually produce repetitive good art. I fortunate to stumble upon an outlet for frustration and to find my style. I am a little late in seeing your video. Who do you call when you need to chat about art? Ha ha it’s not obvious to many people it’s actually you tube that has brought my journey to art. My lucky stars. I’ve subscribed and will follow with intensity to learn watch and eventually create art I’m happy to do.
Just in time - for my final project - being delivered in a month. New subscriber and follower from over here in the UK! Wales and Scotland have had a few lockdowns and fire breaks so we are with you lovely Aussies! Stand firm!
Oh my gosh……I LOVE this exercise!!! Very inspiring ❤ The results were lovely. This was also a good reminder of how scary things were just a short time ago.
I did this! I loosely followed along with your video and created my first ever abstract painting. I'm crafty, but I don't consider myself an artist or a painter, however...I am so enamored with how my paintings turned out! I never would have thought to try this on my own, but I'm so happy I did! Thank you!
@@ClairBremnerArt really intrigued by the method you used to create 6 individual abstract pieces from what seems to be one large canvas, I'm no artist myself but love to try new things, so thank you for the inspiration, you're right about it making one feel better just being able to create whatever happens 😊🎉
Thank you for confirming to me that the feelings I have can be expressed in paint. I’ve watched a thousand RUclips videos of contrived “abstract” paintings that feel, to me, to be hackneyed and redundant and totally without originality. I m happy to see expression that seems to be without “instruction” of rules or commercial acceptance. You seem to express yourself from your soul. I want to have the freeness and spontaneity you seem to have in your creations. I have “liked”, I have subscribed, and I want to learn what allows you to be so free in your expressions.
Thank you Clair for opening my eyes to a new perspective on creating art. I was feeling bored and in a rut with my art. I tried this and had such fun and created 6 amazing pieces of art. I ordered more paper and can’t wait for it to arrive so I can create art again in a totally different pallet.
You are an amazing artist Clair. Your art work is beautiful, flowing, comforting. I love watching you work as you make it look so so easy. I love the colors you choose. You are a free-flowing dove!
This is the most valuable information I’ve heard in regards to painting. Thank you so much for helping me break through my mental blocks, and overthinking! The end results are as “perfect” as could be. So beautiful! I’d love them hanging on my wall. 😊
oh my goodness thanks for your creative inspiration it really is sometimes the inner voice that tries to limit my focused attention in creative expression but watching videos like this have been such a peer pressure shift in not being stuck in the mind and intuitively experience joy in just being able to create spontaneous and curious experimental styles or materials and fully emerge your souls beautiful natural need to create and nurture our passions in peace free of blockages or self sabotaging
Great video from a wonderful channel. Art books have provided me a much-needed escape from real life. I have my easy chair set up with a desk, a lamp, a blanket and a cup of coffee. I spent many hours with dragons, unicorns, space battles, pixies, knights, and now with my National Geographic books, the vast undersea world of the coral reefs. My art books are the best investments I ever made. My 4 favorite books are: - Wonderworks by Michael Whelan - Color and Light by James Gurney - Infinite Worlds by Vincent DiFate - Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson
This is such an interesting and valuable exercise. Each of the artpieces are complete and stand on its own. Beautiful color schemes and markmakings.💐♥️👌‼️ Thank You.Toom@CapeTown
This is my first time to find you on YT. I love, love, love what you've done. I wish I knew the paint colors you've used because I'm a beginner, trying to learn good color combos and yours are great!
I did this with a large format and I just loved it. It was so much fun. Got many compliments on my pieces. I’m gonna try it again today to loosen up with some smaller pieces and maybe a different pallet. Thank you so much for those ideas.
Fascinating…. And you are right… these compositions would never happen on a single piece of paper….it feels so free! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!

Standing and painting from the shoulder without a preconceived attachment to outcome gives your paintings great freshness and energy! New subscriber.
Beautiful art! Thank you for generously sharing it with us!
I paid a fortune for an online course & you taught everything in this 1 video. Thank you soooooooo much👏👏👏
