      The key here is the paper. 100% cotton is one. But are you using hot or cold pressed watercolor paper? Is SMLT available in US? What is it comparable to in US? Pls advise and thanks. And thank you for this tutorial. Easily understood.

    The video was thorough. For some perhaps putting links of material used below the title, down arrow, would avoid replying to the same question of what materials used (still going to have tell commentators to look for info under title).
    P.s. Gonna say amazed how neat and organized you are. Basically, well, I'm a pig painting (metamorphically :) My pants legs have almost as many brushstrokes as the painting.

    Your English was fine. I understood every word. Question: I followed your instructions to the letter and mine didn't turn out like yours. Of course, I'm using Canson mixed media paper and not Arches 100% cotton. Does it really make that much of a difference? I'm getting so frustrated and maybe that's the problem?

    • @Lolaaquarella
      @Lolaaquarella  3 месяца назад +87

      Hi, yes, the problem is often in the paper. If wet on dry will somehow work for you, then wet on wet will not work at all. And the layers will not work, since the structure of the cellulose when applying the next layer washes away the previous one and the layering is not as clear and beautiful as we would like. Well, and one more thing. If you are doing this for the first time, then I did not succeed the first time 4 years ago. It's a matter of practice. Good luck and don't give up, you can do it..

      @@Lolaaquarella I put down watercolor about 3 decades ago because of frustration with it and stuck with acrylic and oil. I only picked it back up when I wanted to do a travel journal about a year ago. I've ordered proper 140lb 100% cotton hot pressed paper (I prefer that texture and the increase in drying time with less bleed), Should be here tomorrow. I'm sure it will make all the difference. If I can do watercolor on Yupo, then hot pressed will be even better. Thanks for replying!

      No one "practices" on whole sheets of cotton paper. Notice the strips. Too expensive. If you are learning, you get some good pulp / cellulose paper (Bockingfor/Strathmore/etc), wet both sides, and let it sit flat for a few minutes. There will be a huge difference when you paint on it. .... btw, yours isn't supposed to look exactly like hers; gotta practice.

    • @katgab
      @katgab 3 месяца назад +13

      All the difference in the world! I was frustrated too until i went for 100 percent cotton. Not arches, a bit too spendy for me, but there are several lower priced brands to choose from

    This was a lovely beginner educational video. The only part that I think could be a little confusing was when you did the layering video on the cellulose, and had to return to the shape that was overlapped and paint it again separately. Was there a particular reason you used the cellulose? The sample on the watercolor paper were excellent and I will share the video on my Facebook and hope you get more subscribers!

    • @Lolaaquarella

      Thank you, my friend. In this way I wanted to show the tonality. And how it changes based on their density, layers of fabric, or aerial perspective. I wanted to show that not only can one object be darker than another, but also the area that is overlapped by one and another layer is also the darkest) That is, in essence, I created a gradation of tonality.🤪

    Iryna, thank you for this wonderful video, it's interesting to see how the different types of paper makes such a difference to the result when you paint on them. I used to practice all the techniques I know, onto cellulose paper and the result was always very bad. But then I started buying 100% pure cotton paper and the difference is quite noticable. It makes all the difference in the world when you are painting. Thank you for this video.
    Iryna, I don't know where in Ukraine you are living, but I am praying for you. I know how terrible things are in Ukraine right now, and my thoughts are with you. Your country is so very, very beautiful and you, and your fellow Ukrainians deserve much better than you are getting right now. I pray that Putin will go back to Russia and leave Ukraine and it's beautiful people alone.

      Thank you, my friend. I am from Odessa. It is a city - a pearl by the sea. And my children and I miss that peaceful life very much. But you know, Spain has welcomed us very well. Even before the war, I saw it in a dream, and when I arrived, I recognized those balconies with beautiful flowerpots that I dreamed about. Sometimes I see architecture in my dreams when I sleep, buildings that I have never seen... It turns out that they are simply showing me the place where I will be.🙄
