    Dr Brownstein has been my doctor for 20 years. I was suffering from chronic sinus and respiratory infections. I would get one or two infections per month. He did such extensive bloodwork and found all kinds of issues. He straightened out my thyroid, balanced my sex, hormones, and got taking iodine and Vitamin D before anyone was talking about it 20 years ago. He is years ahead of his time. He is kind, caring, and always starts the appointment with a hug.

    I have the answer for you as to why you didn't learn this in med school..... My grandfather was a scientist. Made meds. He was the top man at his lab. In 1985, big pharm made the decision to go from preventative care to managed care. By 1989, they were full on subscribing and implementing this philosophy. I asked my grandfather at his retirement party, why would they do this. He said it was all about the money. Keep us sick, make more money. And big pharm controls the medical schools. You were never going to learn how to truly keep a person healthy.

      Hi Shaun Smith, I visited the GP this morning. She took a look at my supplements and told me to stop taking the ones that contain iodine, saying (paraphrasing), "We don't recommend any iodine supplements during pregnancy. The prenatals, normally, do not contain iodine. I don't see why yours does." I was also advised to stop taking the seakelp capsules since they contain 737mcg of iodine. The appointment had me worried sick.
      I feel so relieved that Dr. Berry released this video just hours before my appointment. I'm so happy that I hadn't been overdosing my pregnant self.

His joints became inflamed and would bleed out the skin. He could not get up off the floor. I thought for sure I’d have to put him down 😢. But then I was introduced to Dr Brownstein and why Iodine. I engulfed the information. The slowly began feeding my dog. Within 3 days he was an entirely different dog! Anyone considering adding iodine needs to look up the iodine protocol. You need to have adequate selenium levels, magnesium levels and vitamin C , plus adequate sodium. Also you need to gradually increase the dose. The docs can’t say it so I will. There is very little chance you can find an MD who is iodine literate, and if you do can you afford them. you need to do it yourself. Read Brownstein’s book and follow the protocol. GET YOUR Selenium levels measured ! This is important before you start iodine. Low selenium while increasing iodine can lead to thyroid damage.

    • @Valoric
      @Valoric 9 месяцев назад +102

      I would expand on that and say while selenium levels are important. The reason why it’s important is what people should actually focus on. Glutathione is the key to preventing thyroid damage. Sleeping poorly can even affect its production. Stress, not enough vitamin C, E, magnesium, B vitamins, zinc and Alpha lipoic acid all can be bottlenecks.
      Maximising glutathione production is the goal. Selenium can’t do that on its own. But often is the key to unlock it for people. It wasn’t for me, though.

    • @kaitlinjensen
      @kaitlinjensen 9 месяцев назад +46

      @@Valoric that can be an issue for those with MTHFR, because they generally have poor glutathione production, hence detoxing is harder for them (I have it, unfortunately, about 40% of Caucasians have it, but most don't know).

    • @faeleaf174
      @faeleaf174 9 месяцев назад +198

      I'm currently doing my own Iodine protocol with my husband, and things seem to be improving greatly. I have very mild Hashimoto's that's been improving (prior to Iodine), as in, my antibodies were only ever 9 and have recently been tested down to 3. But I have basically every single symptom of severe Hypothyroidism in the book except for poor fertility. Horrible fatigue, weight gain despite eating a great diet (matches Dr. Ken Berry) for about a decade, having a clean lifestyle, etc. I started Iodine after a ton of research into the way the thyroid works, particularly how Iodine is necessary for T4 (which is what I'm low in). I haven't had iodized salt in a decade, and I have next to zero wild seafood or sea plants in my diet and have not for several years. It just makes sense that I need to include Iodine. We started with 125mcg and have added a single drop (equal to another 125 mcg) each week, plus 100-200mcg of Selenium depending on what else we're eating that day. I'm also personally taking 2000mg of Vitamin C and around 400mg of Magnesium Glycinate, plus 10,000 IU of Vitamin D3 + K2. I've noticed some really interesting detox reactions (likely from bromine and probably some flouride and chlorine): really small pimple clusters, very dark urine, mild headaches, and fatigue/brain fog. I've been doing saltwater flushes that help IMMENSELY. I usually do about a cup of water with 1/2 tsp of sea salt shortly after I take my Iodine and Selenium. Plus I have a very good amount of sodium (from sea salt) throughout my day (and other electrolytes). We're now 6 weeks into this protocol and up to 750mcg of Iodine, and we've both had extreme benefits to our sleep and overall energy. I was suffering from severe insomnia where I'd wake up no more than 1.5 hours into sleeping and do that the entire night, and there was always a time where I'd be stuck awake from 30-60 minutes just unable to fall back to sleep. I now wake up once or twice, usually just to readjust, and go right back to sleep. I'm almost never having any moments of being stuck awake unless something jolts me awake like a loud sound or something, but even then, I sleep very well once I go back to sleep. And both my husband and I have had much more vivid dreams. I'm really optimistic that this is helping my thyroid. I woke up earlier than I have in ages this morning with tons of energy. Got nearly all of my chores done before the time I'd normally even wake up. I'm praying this is my thyroid improving. And I hope my comment can inspire someone. If you have thyroid issues, GO SLOW AND STEADY. Do not just jump into 50mg of iodine. You don't need to do that. The thyroid is very slow to respond and heal (from what I've read), and you're better off going very slowly, especially since Iodine will dislodge the other Halogens and cause side effects. Take it slowly. You likely didn't get a thyroid problem overnight, and you're not going to heal it overnight either.

It is clear that good functioning thyroid is a significant driver for cellular health and good levels of hormones... Now, my question is... what if a person has had a thyroidectomy (as a result of Medullary Thyroid Cancer) and is on hormone replacements. Should iodine still play a role in his health? I have been carnivore since December of 2018 and have had problems with Hashimoto's since 2014. I used to have a visible Adam's apple but when it's my throat started getting swollen and I couldn't see it anymore I asked my doctor what could possibly be wrong. He said that it is just a part of getting older. I switched doctors and eventually a visiting physicians me with Hashimoto's. I was put on Synthroid but it never really helped much and even after I started the lion diet, it didn't improve. I heard about iodine from Dr Barry but I had been warned about experimenting with it so I researched it a bit and found that it could be very dangerous to take too much so I didn't want to try it. But about 8 months ago I got some lugol's iodine because I had been hearing more about the importance of iodine and I started taking one drop a day. Surprisingly I noticed in the mirror that I could see my voice box again and that was about 3 months ago also when I went to the endocrinologist and he tested my thyroid he said that it was within the normal range again and I no longer needed to see him and to keep taking Synthroid. I began treating my mini scratches with Lugal's iodine because my skin was so easily cut when bumped, and my very brittle nails began to get stronger and the hangnails became non-existent and I was able to grow them very long until they interfered with typing. The other bonus is that I have a lot more energy to do my work. I am almost 74 years young.

    There is NO money in there cure, that is the basic answer. When i asked my Doc about peptide therapy and she replied "what's that" When I partially tore my ACL's in a skiing accident I took BPC-157 to speed up healing. My Orthopedic Surgeon was surprised at how fast I was healing so I told him what I was taking he abruptly pushed himself away from me in his little chair and said "well I don't need to see you anymore" and then left the room. Its sad and pathetic that most doctors are not onboard with healing people just collecting the money. Maybe if we start paying doctors a lot less we will start getting doctors that are actually concerned with healing people and not driving the latest Porsche or golfing the best courses.

    If you are traveling abroad, it is useful to know where to be aware of the addition of fluoride. In some places, the drinking water contains natural fluoride. Natural fluoride is usually in the form of calcium fluoride, which is a more stable compound that does not cause damage to the same extent as sodium fluoride. Here is a list of countries that use fluoride supplementation:
    Africa
    Egypt: Fluoride is added to the tap water in some places in Egypt.
    Asia
    Hong-Kong: Fluoride is added to rainwater that is collected and used for tap water.
    India: Fluoride is not added to the tap water in India, but many places suffer from a fairly high, natural fluoride content in the water.
    China: Fluoride is not added to the tap water in China, but in many places there is natural fluoride in the water.
    Malaysia: Approx. Fluoride is added to 75% of the tap water.
    Singapore: All public water supplies in Singapore add fluoride. Do not drink tap water in Singapore.
    Europe
    Eire (Ireland): As the only country in Europe, the addition of fluoride to the drinking water in Eire is mandated. Therefore, avoid drinking tap water in Eire.
    France: Table salt with fluoride is on the market. Avoid buying this.
    Spain: Fluoride is added to approx. 10% of drinking water. Ask before drinking tap water in Spain.
    Great Britain: Fluoride is added to approx. 10% of drinking water. Inquire before drinking tap water in the UK.
    Switzerland: Table salt often has fluoride added to it. Look for salt without fluoride if you buy salt in Switzerland.
    Czech Republic: Table salt with fluoride is on the market. Avoid buying this.

      Started carnivore in October 2023. By February I had a strong hair loss. Since I was diagnosed with alopecia androgenic (wrongly) I started minoxidil. It didn't help. I thought it was thee diet since it is a known side.
      In May, I saw a video about iodine when I searched ways to deal with PMS, fibroids and thyroid nodules, which I have.
      Started taking iodine more seriously (1350mcg of kelp/6 pills of 225mcg iodine) plus primrose oil (1000mg). My hair fall stopped almost completely as an unexpected side.

    I am a retired respiratory therapist. In my 30's I drew a lot of blood gases. We did not use gloves then and I prepped the draw site and my fingers with betadine throughout the day. This was before gloves. My fingers were always yellow, and eventually started looking like raw hamburger, so I switched to alcohol preps. I started telling people I was allergic to betadine, but it makes me wonder if I was absorbing iodine at that time. I have read the iodine book and started taking lugol's solution a couple of weeks ago. I don't see doctors anymore because I just don't trust them I I don't know them well.

      RT here since 2020. Yup. It was RT bootcamp due to the pandemic. Anyway, Im on the carnivore diet for 10 months which de-aged me by 10 years (I'm 37 but feel like im in my 20s again). I regularly see people younger than me who are on death's door with a multitude of chronic illnesses and deficiencies. Its wild to see the stark contrast now that i know about the proper human diet. I feel like im the only sane person in the hospital at times.
      I watch tons of animal based, keto, and carnivore channels. I know more about nutrition than pretty much the entire ICU and ER put together at this point. The docs see that their patients are coming in younger and sicker than ever before and they have no idea how to fix them. Some of them are starting to catch on that processed foods are bad for you but when i ask them to specifically name the processed foods they dont really know what they are. They just think junk food or fast food is what a processed food is. Oh and dont get me started about the tube feeds.....

    Wow!! I wish I had known this all my life!!! I started having fibroid tumors in my breasts & uterus at 19 years old- at 69- I’ve had 7 surgeries for fibroid Breast tumors, cystic hyperplasia breasts, then in my 40’s myomyectomy for 15 uterine fibroid tumors - then had to have a hysterectomy after 6 months because the tumors were back. I’ve also dealt with chronic bronchitis & reoccurring pneumonia with hospitalizations. (Growing up- We didn’t eat seafood since Dad was highly allergic.) I also have nodules & lesions on my thyroid, liver & adrenal gland. I can see that I’ve been iodine deficient all my life!! @noeldeal8087 it makes the dough malleable. Have you ever seen those kitchen machines that work with the flour? I don't know what they are called, but it stretches dough, so apparently, it causes it to be supple, chewy, and thick. If you look up what these chemicals are in, it'll blow your mind. It can be found in fire extinguishers, furniture, plastics, and pesticides, just to name a few. You get the point. In the human body, it goes where iodine is used. Namely, the CREBS cycle. So... when your body goes to make energy, the little nasty chemicals vy with iodine, essentially throwing a wrench in the works. These chemicals are cancer causing and interfere with just about all hormones our bodies make. The solution is to get enough iodine and don't eat chemicals in this family.

I remember him talking in the early 70s about how large corporations were buying out Dr’s practices and that eventually Drs wouldn’t have them anymore. Now? He was absolutely, 💯 correct. And these mega corporations are all about profit. They collude with Pharma (who pays for all medical training btw) to keep people sick. From heart disease to cancer, gout to RA, Lupus to eczema, the cures for all are known. By a select few. And those people, like you, reading this comment and watching this video.
    I guess my point is that we each have to take responsibility for our own health. We can’t count on physicians. Thank God for Doctors like these two and a growing chorus of physicians who are screaming the TRUTH! Bless them both. Wishing good health to all!

Thank you for this interview Dr. Berry and Dr. Brownstein. ❤ Incidentally, that was the last time I was in an allopathic physician's office.

    Going to share this video w. my closest friends. I recently upped my Lugol's Iodine drops from 2 drops/day to 4-5 drops, AND I use more salt now than in the previous 5 decades of cooking, eating, AND I only use Redmond's "Ancient Kosher Sea Salt." I'm forwarding this excellent video to several friends, too. I no longer eat as much seafood (like wild salmon & halibut) as I did in prior years bec. our oceans & rivers are so polluted, & I won't eat farmed fish, BUT I do eat sardines & mackerel which are still wild caught. And of course, big thanks to Dr. Berry & Dr. Brownstein.

      Our Maker created us and the planet we're on. How do you know it didn't take a very LONG time? Can't both be true? If you're a believer in the Bible, you will notice that Adam & Eve 'fell', so out of the Garden, they are human, with all of the imperfections. Thankfully, our Maker enabled us to think and make decisions. With that decision making, mistakes that hurt us have been implemented. Most in science and medicine are well intended but mistakes are made. If we were all back in the Garden of Eden, maybe we wouldn't need all this stuff to help us feel better.

    Iodine has helped me for the FIRST time since I’m a child (I’m 52) to not have freezing feet and hands. So very sad when I’d always have to say “cold hands warm heart” THAT’S totally not why…..who knew?!! Thank you BOTH, I’m able to go outside on a cool summer night not wanting to put little gloves on, boy I’d look dumb. I also couldn’t knit much because my hands were ALWAYS so cold and numb. My doctor never ever told me, maybe he never checked off the thing to check in bloodwork? It took 6 months of taking 3 drops a day to finally get to the point where I am not having freezing hands and feet. Now what to do with all my wool socks and mittens hahaha! Thanks again!

      Me too! I've been dealing with severe cold intolerance for almost a decade. My hands and feet have always been freezing unless they literally can't be (like in a hot bath or in 100+ degree Summer heat). I've been on Iodine for about 6 weeks, and I can finally say that I can TOLERATE the cold. I do get cold, and my feet (not hands) still get pretty cold at night, but it's never that unbearable cold where I can't sleep, can't get comfortable, and can't focus on anything else because I'm so uncomfortable. I can actually just BE a little cold while cozy under a blanket. It's really incredible. It's sad because doctors just don't care to check the thyroid unless you diligently request it, or you get lucky with a half-decently informed doctor. And even then, you might not get the help you need. My previous doctor said my numbers were fine and to just "keep doing what you're doing." Well... I've been 60 lbs overweight despite eating an amazing diet (like Dr. Ken Berry, and my prior doctor!), and I have nearly every Hypothyroidism symptom in the book, and he just said, "The numbers show a healthy woman. I'm not worried." It was so frustrating. Glad you're getting improvements too!!

    Of ALL the healthy foods & supplements I've taken over the last 15-20 years, IODINE is the SINGLE thing I KNOW has truly helped me!! About 9 years ago, out of the blue, I started to suffer from terrible blues & daily bouts of crying. It was not situational... I had - and KNEW my life was good... I did some exploration and suspected I had low thyroid so started taking kelp flakes (approx 1100 mg). After 2 weeks, my blues & crying completely melted away. I was later found to have subclinical low thyroid and put on 60 grams of Armour - but continued - and still do to take the iodine - I believe it saved my life. I will also add, I never got C19, and I can't remember the last time I had a cold or any virus or bug...

      Thank you for sharing this. I know our stories are anecdotal, but it helps me a lot to hear others experiences. I just went off my 180 mg Armour Thyroid 2 weeks ago. I've been keto/carnivore for a few years and added Lugol's six months ago after hearing Dr. Elizabeth Bright. I've been doing the 5 drops of 2% as she recommends. I realized I had been feeling increasingly worse and struggling more in recent months. It finally occurred to me to try stopping the meds. Within a week I started feeling better. Now, it's only been a couple of weeks but seems stable so far. I need to get labs redone to see where I am, but going by symptoms it seems like the combination of the fats in carnivore and the iodine have been game changers. I already got off of blood pressure meds, daily sinus meds and reversed pre-diabetes. It would be amazing if my hypothyroidism has been cured, or at least better managed without expensive meds!

    • @EgonSorensen
      @EgonSorensen 9 месяцев назад +21

      Distilling water requires relatively high amounts of energy - so you'll also have to add running costs + do maintenance/clean ups.
      An alternative is Reverse Osmosis, where 'dirty' water is pressed through a semi-permeable filter which only allows small water molecules to pass. Some run directly off the water supply, others require a pump - but still lot less electricity consumed compared to a water distiller.
      Here’s a list of the top things a reverse osmosis filter can remove:
      Fluoride
      Pesticides
      Synthetic Estrogen
      Herbicides
      Arsenic
      Lead
      Pharmaceuticals
      Chlorine
      One thing to have in mind is that beneficial minerals is also removed - so it is a good thing to add/get a complete water-filtration-cleaning-re softener kit if used extensively for drinking.
      They also clean themselves, to some degree - and replacing the filters is easy, though it is a good idea to keep track on how much water they process, as they do have a limited lifetime.
      I also see some R.O. kits apparently is not working as advertised, so it might be a good idea to check reviews/specs before buying.
      Edit: Forgot to mention they waste a 'lot' of water while running. If water is scarce, it might be possible to do some re-circulation/re-use on the dirty water side, if more pumps/filters are used 'down-the-line'

    Dr Berry, you have such a bigger reach than Dr Brownstein, I hope this makes you rethink the amount of iodine in your supplements and gets you recommending more iodine in your podcasts. Here are my suggestions for questions to ask the next time you get him on. 1. What are the symptoms of iodine overload. 2. What are the companion nutrients that need to be taken with iodine and how. 3. What are the symptoms of detox from bromide and fluoride and how do you mitigate them. 4. On the carnivore diet do you still need the companion nutrients. 5. Does iodine change your PH in your GI tract. Thank you. I’ve hoped you would do this interview for years mostly because your recommendations for iodine are so much less than Brownstiens and his method of finding the correct dose is more scientific.

      I can answer one of your questions from personal experience. I started taking Iodine (slowly) 6 weeks ago. My symptoms of bromine detox have been small clusters of pimples (really tiny ones, but it'll be like 3-7 just appearing in a matter of an hour), very dark and pungent urine (even if you're hydrated), brain fog/fatigue, and very minor headaches (the kind that aren't debilitating but just kind of there in the background). Drinking saltwater every morning has pretty much eliminated everything except for some of the fatigue though. 1/2 cup water per 1/4 tsp of sea salt. I usually do a full cup with a 1/2 tsp of saltwater shortly after my daily Iodine and Selenium, plus electrolytes later and tons of sea salt with my food. The symptoms of detox can be worse from what I've read, but we've been doing very slow and steady Iodine dosing. 1 drop (125mcg) increases every week based on symptoms. Just got to 750mcg and feeling really great. Oh, and our dreams have been crazy vivid and sleep better than ever before, likely from flouride detox (which calcifies the pituitary gland).

    Iodine Allergy??? A 32 year old friend was told by a doctor that she is allergic to iodine and so she avoids it because she had a reaction to gadolinium contrast. I was stunned. Gadolinium contrast doesn’t contain iodine and iodine is an essential element. She is having difficulties: low blood pressure , dizziness, headaches, sensitivity to light and other symptoms. She keeps leaving work to go to the doctor and emergency room due to her symptoms (she is a veteran). She is totally dependent on these doctors who are not helping her at all. I have encouraged her that we must do our own research. Researching her symptoms, I showed her the possible causes of low blood pressure: hormonal and suggested she look into testing a carnivore diet for two or four weeks, and also look at MTHFR and supplement with methylated B12 and methyl folate. When she and I looked at a multi vitamin with the methylated vitamins she saw it contained iodine. I am going to suggest to her that she watch this video. I hope and pray that she will discover what is going on in her biochemistry.
