Hey Scotty , what do you think about the Toyota Celica Gts model ?
Common sense is the most important thing
Scotty Kilmer Hi scotty Can i Put a Filter on the Pcv hose instead of routing it into the intake hose or is that a bad idea?? Many thanks
Hey scotty just wanted to say as someone who aspires to be a mechanic i greatly enjoy all of your videos hate seeing people try and diss you because of shear ignorance your where its at!
I appreciate this guy he bought a old truck fixed it up for a few thousand and now he's got a great truck in stead of buying a brand new one for like 30k and they don't make them like they use to I like this guy
I prefer these trucks rather than the newer ones
In 5yrs, he can sell it for 30k
Nice Yota bro! My first truck when I was 16 was a blue 1988 Toyota 4x4 standard cab 3.0 v6 5 speed ... mine had over 300k miles and sum rust... at the age of 16 I rallied that truck, it was built tough. Handled off-road jumps extremely well, went down almost any four wheeler trail and never left me stranded. The 3.0 v6 (150HP)can haul ass... my first ever speeding ticket was with this truck... 118mph in a 65 mph. Oops lol
I actually prefer this over the new ones.
Same
I like all of them, I’ve never actually seen a gross looking Tacoma.
@@enriquesegura6844 you haven't looked hard enough 😂😂😂
The more i watch these videos every time you post the more i want to make a video about my own car to send in one day :) Thanks Scotty !
Evan Nolan yep keep it up scotty
Well it will run another 25 years it is a Toyota!
Have an 89 4runner with the 3.0 @ 397,000 miles and NEVER rebuilt! Always changed the oil and ALWAYS kept my eye on the coolant system!
Yup... I know those Engines! The V06 RECALLS!
Toyota Technician
18yrs

Damn!!! Nice Truck!!! Thanks for this!
Scott kilmer the one and only ..stay original man
Best way to start the day is a notification from your channel!
So true :)
Now find the Delorian.
Hard to find it, Doc never stops driving it
I would just go for the steam train.
David I would go for the flying Scotsman
Can't find doc stole it
no need for a V6 if you got a 22R yes less HP but they would run forever you couldnt kill them. Toyotas by far most reliable engine I think. And the upgrades today you can do to them
Boot 185 I'm parting out my BELOVED '96 Taco. V6, 5sp manual, 4x4, only 159k! Frame rusted ☠️ it's done. You KNOW this engine will go go 200k or MORE. Oh, sunroof too. SO sad. I LOVE this trk💔 effen frame!
This statement about the 22 R / 22RE about being Toyotas most reliable perfect four-cylinder engine happens to be a true statement they are amazing and will keep up with most six cylinders personal experience plus input from knowledgeable mechanics I’ve owned my 88 Toyota pick up 22RE For 17 years now and the longer I have it the more in love I am with it
Mine has a partial blown head gasket, runs on 3 out of 4 cylinders and still runs great!
I owned a red/white top, 1985 Toyota 4-Runner SR-5 manual 4x4 with the 2.4 liter EFI 22RE 4cyl. I miss that vehicle and I lived in the deep south, no rust issues. 400k miles when I sold it to a buyer that shipped it to Haiti, Carfax verified the shipping. A friend had a 1989, that was as great too.
I still have the 1991 22-RE pickup I bought new & understand your love for your SR5. Thank you for restoring this little Black Beauty.
Back in high school 1985, my sister's boyfriend got a black one, and it was 4wd just like the one in the movie. He also jacked it up with big tires, too. I remember he took us out mudding. Other than being a bit under-powered compared to the full size pickups, it was a great truck.
That's the perfect "Island" vehicle, especially where I lived.
Had a 1980 sr4 in high school Tallest year biult. Loved it. Replaced the bed w/a simple wood tongue and groove flat bed. Was painted dark blue, w/a paint brush, lmao, it looked perfect. We bombed around town and off road all the time. Finally One day the frame broke. You know, right behind the cab. Had to tie the frame up to the wooden bed to get it off the trail and limp home. It was very early 90's and the dot/rmv made a huge deal out of fixing a frame then. Now companies offer kits to re-weld/fix. The yota was replaced by my first jeep. I still drive jeeps. And i still miss that old yota. So ugly but so beautiful.
Nice truck. If i knew then, what i know now. Never would have parted w/it
That pickup truck is a thing of beauty. Amazing how nice it's been kept after 30 years.
I had a 92 that was passed down to me and it was my pride and joy. I learned how to drive and work on cars with that little truck, it was awesome. Dad sold it a few months ago after getting an offer he couldn’t refuse and I’m still not over it :/.
Make sure Biff doesn't con you on that 2nd coat of wax.
😂😂😂
I have a fully loaded 98 T100 SR5 with just under 100k miles. On my 2 wheel drive truck the most important thing to me is everything still works! I will run this baby for another 20 years and save all of the truck payments I don't have to make.
My dad had one of those. It was 2wd. Good times
My dad has a Toyota pickup with over 360,000 miles. Its been flooded two times, two accidents, and several long journeys and it refuses to die.
"Nice set of wheels, lets she what she'll do at the next light . . . . "
I have truck envy, you have one of the few that isn't rusted up and beat to pieces. People are starting to do frame off restorations on these old 80's Toyota 4x4's, 4Runners, trucks, Land Cruisers, which is crazy. I had a couple of them back in the day, an 85 and an 88, both were the 2wd though, the 88 I gave the full mini-truck treatment to, dropped, enkie wheels, stripes on the sides, etc.
nice work. I can respect a man that takes a heap and fixes it all up himself, even with grampa's help. Keep the truck forever, you'll never replace the memories. One day, when grampa isn't around any more, you'll cherish those memories every time you get in the truck. With the head gasket problem fixed, it just might run forever. Personally I prefer the Toyotos with the four or straight six, I have not had any good luck with a v6 of any brand yet, tho my old 96 Blazer has a v6, runs good but has a host of other problems. It's the first V6 of any brand that's given me decent service even tho the previous owner didn't take care of it worth a darn. Trouble is, he didn't take care of anything else either. Oh well, good on ya, nice little truck... wish I had it or even an old ford courier. Oddly the ford courier trucks were originally built by Mazda, later Ford built the Mazda trucks, a ranger and a Mazda are the same truck with different badges.
Some people just so lucky to find a vehicle they can rebuild and have the additional help too. Great presentation.
I still want this truck to this day.
I envy this guy.
Looks great. I greatly prefer the size of these trucks as compared to the new Tacomas.
I've got a 95 4Runner in amazing condition and it has the same engine. Completely optioned out, but no alarm. amazing ride
I had a 1987 2WD four speed manual I bought it brand new. It got stolen two years ago, and I found a 2002 Tacoma TRD six cylinder. Only thing is it's automatic, but I can live with that as it has everything the old truck did not - AC, a radio that works, traction control, extended cab I just love the Tacoma.
This video trully inspires me to invest more into my Dodge Dakota. These small trucks are so much fun and not many people appreciate them for what they are. And the connection you have to your family makes this video/truck even better. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Can't do that in modern vehicles long live the old school! Got a 85 gts red celica that I hope to complete soon and have on here . Oh whatta feelin'
Finding good, simple & reliable vehicles like this is getting harder & harder.
You know, this was quite an enjoyable video. I particularly enjoyed the pacing of it, so chill.
i am a big three guy but cant deny those 80s toyotas were good with the 22r..cant kill them
Almost 300k on a 30 plus year old Toyota and its still running strong!! Gotta love Toyota!!
I am on my third 4X4 Toyota pickup, with "only" 120k on it. The previous two I allowed relatives to talk me out of, but this one I am keeping. I had a Celica once that i put 300k on, and a friend of mine added 200k more to it. I have had good luck with the brand.
Shes just about run in, ready for work!
Thank you Scotty,
It is a joy to watch and learn.
Nice Job on restoring & preserving this Toyota Truck !!
Very nice. It's amazing how few of these you see on the road today when they made a ga-zillion of them. The running gear is rock solid but they were bad about rusting!! You have a real winner here!!
Need to get the 4X4 front fenders, it will look much better.
Immediately thought of Marty’s truck, great restoration! Love these older Toyotas.
What a great video to start off the day !!!
Thanks Scotty 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍
Jimmy Sapien i
O.K. I have to do a video on my 2000 S10 resto. Great Toyota!
Awesome truck. Lots of TLC, pride and great story. Plus easy to repair, oh and those 4 speeds are a delight to drive!
Whats wrong McFly, Chicken?
Great job on the truck. Scotty I love these weekly user car videos , keep em coming . Rev your engines !
Awesome restoration job, it paid off cause it looks bad ass!
Thanks for the type of person you’re always giving us the best content thanks again
Marty McFly approves
Thanks Scotty. Jason your truck is amazing, what a great story about your grandpa. Thanks so much for sharing, the truck is beautiful
Great little trucks
What a great looking truck!
totally agree !
Brings tears to my eyes. What a beautiful truck
I miss my 84 sr5 4x4 22re. She was absolutely bullet proof but not crash proof. Lincoln Town cars are quite the tough customer.
I absolutely love every single back to the future movie they made..such a classic piece of movie history!!
I had an 84 4cylinder 4x4 when I was 16 , badass truck. Looking for another one
Every Toyota guy, like myself, know that these trucks outlive the owners!
Awesome! Im building my 86 to look like the Back to the future truck!
Very nice truck and got to love the way he put all the work into it. Very clean great job
Marty McFly's dream truck... awhhh, I loved that truck too man!
I have a 1987 Toyota 4x4 pickup still going strong after all these years.
I always loved these trucks too. They have a classic look, and if taken care of are very reliable and durable.
Got to love Scotty's enthusiasm!
Awesome Truck !! That thing is beautiful. I miss these smaller trucks, plus autos that you can work on..
Great truck! Glad to see it in such good hands!
My favorite truck of all time also, because of back to the future, Marty deserved it for saving his parents for sure. That’s is a great restoration
I had an 86 and I loved it. I live in the rust belt and the earth has long reclaimed it by now.
Awesome truck and glad to see interest in restoring the 80s era trucks.
Great Scott-y!
Nice truck and nice job on the resto! I love my 3.0. Well over 300k miles on it and just did a 2300 mile round trip in it, no problems.
I had a similar truck - an 87 basic model with the 22R. Black 4x4. That truck started my love of Toyota trucks. Yes, I had a 4Runner with a 3.0 that blew a head gasket! A 2003 Tundra ruined my love of Toyota trucks. :-(
Uh oh what happened with the Tundra? Those are supposed to be good. I know of one over 700k miles and another with a million!
No single incident. It was way over priced, way too small in the cab area and also the bed area, way underpowered, and horrible fuel mileage. It also had horrendous piston slap. It was the truck that made me realize Toyota wasn't ALWAYS perfect and the best at everything just because it says Toyota on it. All of this was also after the incident of the 3.0 head gasket issue on the 4Runner - another overpriced, too small, underpowered, gas hog. The Tundra was just the last straw for me.
Tundras began to grow and get bloated and very expensive.
Same story here; started out with an 86 with 22R then a 96 Tacoma. I thought a Tundra was an upgraded ; how I was wrong. Traded the Tundra in for a 16 Tacoma, but somehow still miss my first truck.
Just stick with the 80’s Toyota’s
I remember telling my Dad to sell his F100 and buy that when I saw the movie.
(Yes, F100, remember those?)
I'm so happy for you, wise and smart decision you made nice truck buddy👍
NICE TOYOTA SR5 PICKUP TRUCK
THANKS Scotty !!! Keep up the Good work's...
Nice work and great memories with grandpa!
Never liked Toyota trucks growing up, but I just fixed up a 01 tundra for my brother, to be honest I'm a bit jealous of it
Awesome , thanks so much for sharing. You've got a great Grandpa !
Nice truck!! That it has sentimental value makes it even better
Very nice truck! Try doing a few car shows with it. Many shows now have awards specifically for trucks.
Car guy here. I really appreciate the videos!
Videos like this make me feel old. I can remember when they were zillions of 1980s Toyota pick ups running around. Now they are collectors item?
Beautiful old truck
More trucks! That Toyota is sweet!
My dad has a 1990 Toyota Pickup with 412k miles on it. No restoration done to it though. The paint has some rust spots and almost faded completely on the top. Mechanically, it has its moments from time to time, but it still runs great for the most part.
Happy wacky Wednesday Scotty. Nice Toyota truck being featured today 👍🏼
👍
Truck looks great. Congrats on it.
I always wanted a back to the future Tacoma/Hilux since the movie era. Waited until I retired from government service I bought a 2018 Tacoma Limited to make this dream a reality. Despite a newer version of the 1985 it fits my bill.
Wow nice video. Makes me want to do something with my little 1984 Toyota pickup sitting in my backyard, I think it needs a new Master Cylinder. And maybe some paint, of course its got some rust and I just figured that would be a total pain to get rid of. But very inspiring so thanks.
Back to the future!
I Love tacomas. My first was a 98 4x4 single cab auto. Only luxury was AC. Manual windows and doors. Had to lock front hubs by hand. Out of the factory it had 12" of ground clearance.
Awesome truck love my Toyota's have 2007 4runner SR5😃you will get my vote
Scotty a real legend
Other then the v6 I had a 88. Pass to me from my dad. Great truck and really wished I kelp it. Awesome dude.
The way scotty points and then swings his arm is hilarious
I like that truck
Wow! Sunroof too!? Only thing my 88's missing.
Don’t most 80s sunroofs end up leaking???
@@210SAi My 89 never has.
Wow very well done!
