That Corolla is perfect. I had visions of building something similar. I made a mistake and bought a TE72 which turned into a mess. Should have bought the generation before it, this one. Best part? No smog, so you can do what you want to do. Would have cost a fortune getting my TE72 smogged and legal with no horsepower. The smog cutoff year between those two generations is everything and is definitely reflected in the price!

Ah, you are right. I keep thinking it's '79 for some reason. Well, if it was a 74-75 TE3x then it would be golden. Maybe that's why he said he kept the stock cat. But it would fail a visual without that stupid little paper dryer tube thingy from the intake snorkel to the header right off the bat. Stupid freakin' smog laws. The bane of my car modifying existence.
Matt Mead Yeah, used to be 25 years or older and then they switched it to 75 or before. Been lots of talk the past few years of moving that year up, but I don't hold my breath. Especially with all the advances that are being made in electric and self driving cars. The time of actual driving being an enthusiastic activity is not too far away. Cool smog guys will let minor visuals go if the numbers pass.
My TE72 sat in my driveway for 3 years while I waited for them to change the smog laws up to 1980 (It was a 1980). Finally got rid of because of how hard it would have been to get it smog legal. I don't think they will ever bump it up. But yeah, driving cars will be like riding horses soon. Just a hobby on the side.

Nads is such a good guy to have on hoonigan. He just ooozes with information and fishes out the interesting facts from the owners of the cars. The fact he has soooooo much enthusiasm and knowledge rubs off on the younger viewers. Gives them something to respect about the OG's like Scottie and Nads. KEEP NADS ON!

Everyone is hating on nad because he talkes for other people but what most people fail to realize is hes complementing them with facts that they may be to humble to bring up on there own. Alot of people are camara shy.

Sweet SR5.. I had one in 1980. I Modified the 2TC with a Weber and headers.. No Cat. Put low profile 14" tires.. I had a CHP officer reminding me on I-580 that the speed limit was only 55.. LOL It was a fun car to drive even in snow around Lake Tahoe

I'm pretty sure the entire "idea" behind NADS being on DT was so that we was that mature gentleman whose always drinking beers but knows EVERYTHING. All the facts, rules, ect. he talks too much, tries to host the show, and tries too hard for the internet to like him. I do agree he knows a lot and brings nice cars. but the videos are not about him
Sometimes it's nice to have someone else do all the talking and bring up interesting points that one may not bring up or forget. Sometimes things we create, places we've been to, our career may interest others but we may take them for granted. I would rather have someone else do all the talking for me but that's not always the case. Maybe people would like him a little more if he worked on his voice quality.
He just needs to calm down. He can jump in after he lets the guests talk or if they happened to miss something they were talking about. He does know his stuff but just needs to chill a bit
Damn Nads is bringing the goods, all these beautiful cars coming into the yard because of him is just fantastic. All I can say is instead of Nads telling us facts about the owners car, he would be much better off asking more questions that lead the owner into telling us the facts. Overall loving this new alcoholic addition to DT, hope to see him more in the future.

Nads the person on the forums who makes the huge sticky posts with all the information you need.
My first car was a 75 SR5....but it looked nothing like this one. The shape is pretty much spot on....but my SR5 was on the far other end of the condition spectrum. Rear floor boards and rocker panels were rusted away and the car would bow in the middle when I hit a bump. The tops of the fenders and the strut towers were rusted away and the struts lean in toward the engine. I worked on those issues for 6 months....cutting and welding angle iron and pipe to form a sub-frame connectors and to get the strut towers back into place and held there. Once done, the car handled like a champ....all the bracing and connecting made the car very rigid and improved the cornering like crazy. A few engine mods were done after the head gasket failed and full engine rebuild was done.

The awesome passive ventilation technology from pre-smog years so your cabin would have positive pressure, and bleed it out through the trunk and rear of the car so you wouldn't have to deal with the exhaust in cars that didn't seal very well.
