Hello! I hope you enjoyed this look at my hat collection ❤ I'm going to be filming a video answering your sewing questions, so what do you want to know? What are your questions about my sewing, your sewing, pattern drafting, fabrics, tools, costuming, fashion school, techniques, etc.?
I would love to see how you make a hat from a placemat. My question for sewing would be what books did you use or would be good for learning more about garment making. My skill level is more of a quilter/crafter and As A plus size gal would love to learn more vintage garment making. Thank you beautiful.
I would like to know the best way to make a suit that hides my imperfection. A little more detail on how to adjust the bust area, I also am a dd. Unfortunately I am not small waisted!
I don't sew with material but I can sew clothes I make from Crochet or knitting, I don't know why I can do one but not the other... I've tried but maybe I should try again. I'm older and have more patience and I would love to try again, you and other utuber sewers are inspiring me to give it a shot so I'll be watching all of the sewing utubers more and more...I really would love to get into the older clothes and hats... I'm already getting into the undergarments that I can knit because I bought a book from the 1890's, a reproduction but I love it... now I need to find a book with the actual 1890's clothing I could use to make Victorian clothing... love the style but wouldn't have survived the era itself... hugs Lynn Weasenforth 💯💜💛💙🌹☮️
My mum got married in a suit, it was a 80s does 40s white jacket and skirt, and she had a hat very simular to the white evening hat. She looked amazing, but it was the only time I've ever known her not wear trousers.
You could wear the hat box on your head and you would still look stunning! I think you can pull off the gold and feathers, can't wait to see how you style it. Thanks so much for the second part of your hat tour! 💚🖤💚🖤💚
Thank you! I think the gold feather headband looks much better with my hair done properly like this, when I tried it on with straight hair right out of the mail when I got it it didn't quite work ha 😂
This winter I actually started wearing a kind of hat: I made my own winter coat in a beautiful prince of wales check, lined with fun fur and I found a matching trilby to go with it. Loved it! Wore it with a matching mask 😷, so the whole outfit was complete 😂
Inspiring; now I want to go hat shopping ;-) FYI, there was something called "milk cotton" (fabric made from milk) that was used in the earlier parts of the 20th century. It was also referred to as milk fiber or casein fiber which I'm thinking may be what the "protein fiber" was in one of your hats. I'm also thinking that the wool/casein hat is probably wool and milk. Thanks for sharing your collection!
As someone who doesn't even drink milk because I find it weird...(yes I still eat ice cream ha 😅) I find the idea of solid material fashion objects made of milk even stranger 😬
@@TheClosetHistorian I'm very allergic to milk. I wonder if those of us with allergies would be able to wear it. Now I have to find some so I can check it out ;-)
The gold feather headband is SO cute! Definitely needs like a 30s style black dress and elbow length black gloves. Gold heels maybe? 🤔 I Definitely feel like it's special to a big band performance or a jazz club or something? Not really an every day hat but good grief Bianca! You could wear the craziest hats and make everyone just in awe. I vote go for it
Yay!.. I've beeen refreshing ytube waiting for part 2. and ofcourse hat no. 1 comes through with heavy "never more" energy!. Also in terms of learning how to make the wire type hats, Angela Clayton has some great video tuts to get one started.
that gold and black headband @30:00 reminds me so much of Miss Fisher. I'm sure she wore something similar, though maybe more voluminous in one episode.......think maybe the outfit was evening wear but not 100% sure (goes and rewatches whole thing again)
I was minding an old lady & we were watching one of the Thin Man movies. I was watching the fashion (because now I do that after watching your videos) & I just blurted “Did you ever wear little silly hats?” And she excited exclaimed “Oh Yes!” And started giggling. It was the most animated I’d ever seen her.
This is super adorable!! Good for her and the silly hats ❤ Also the Thin Man films are excellent fun, watch The Women for the fantastic fashions too of course 🤩
Nailed it so hard with your commentary on the scene from Covergirl!! The entire movie is next level fashion-wise but you hella said it...that one scene with all those girls waiting to audition...an utter dream.
Yes! I get asked all the time about how I wear hats. I always tell them you just have to get used to yourself in them. I have been wearing hats for 23ish years. I wish I had more true vintage ones.
Angela Clayton has made at least one wrapped wire hat. I adore your little black one that disappears in your hair. Yes, the little pillbox in the 80s, yes, we did. And the other little Tudor - SQUEEEEEEEE____ I LOVE that hat, it makes like mouse ears!! I wish I could remember the 40s film that I saw one worn in!!! I would LOVE to see how it's made!!
I wore a hat (with tea length dress) for my 80's wedding. The hat you described as a Tudor crown would go wonderfully with your renaissance-inspired sleeves! The gold with the bunny ears reminds me of 1920's evening wear.
Ooo I think you’re right! A sequined 1920’s dress would be fab with that gold bunny ears headband. I was thinking I’d wear it to high tea at disney with a black dress.
Thank you for getting part 2 out so quick! Really appreciated. A little 50s clamp hat is my most favourite style, so incredibly easy to wear. I have quite a few but you! Now you have A Lot! And I've loved seeing every single one, marvellous! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Many thanks for such a stunning and informative video. Your collection of 1950s/ 1960s hats is simply superb and you certainly wear them well and have the natural grace to carry them off. I often wear hats in the winter of the 1920s cloche style ( reproduction) and get approached by other middle-aged ladies like myself saying that they wished they could wear hats. My advice to them is just to try on lots and lots of hats until you find a style that feels so comfortable that you do not then realise you are wearing a hat and can be yourself and not self- conscious. A great hat certainly sets off an outfit especially in these oh so casual days of dressing. Many thanks again for your superb style and enthusiasm.
Thank you! Try it out! Even if people get taken aback, I always just figure I've added a bit of fun and whimsy to their day and that's not a bad thing 😂
Casein is a sour milk product that can be used to make paints and also a milk fiber which dyes and sews like wool. I'd sure like to try the paints! Thank you for taking us along on your hat conservation storage I enjoyed that a lot! I also find that sitting on floors or the ground has a tendency to make my legs fall asleep. Needles and pins time! As this usually happens when I am alone I find trying to work my numb legs into a straight line and lying down for a while until the blood gets moving again very helpful. Hope this helps. May we all have safe opportunities to get out and enjoy one another's company SOON! Blessings on you and your cats!🐱
Hats on Heads by Mildred Anlezark is a great book for learning millinery. I studied millinery for two years. Love it, but so not sellable in Australia except for when it is Melbourne Cup. 😢
Went to an antique mall, hunting for shelving, and had to pass up some BEAUTIFUL hats that were a good deal, simply because I don't have space at home. There was a stunning velvet bud/rose wedding hat and a particularly unique black velvet cloche hat with white feathers at the very top of the crown, not all the way just the tip of the crown, and a dotted net on top, not quite reaching the brim. The most impressive part was the preservation!!! I would have bought the cloche, it was so stunning and I think 17$ but I just don't look good in cloches ;-;
That "imported fur" wool/velvet hat is likely beaver! It's hard to tell in the video but beaver is exactly the texture you're describing. It largely fell out of fashion by the end of the Edwardian era, so its really cool to see a later hat made of it!
Waving at the hats I passed on to you - awesome to see them and hear about your detailed information about hat construction and history. Please I want to see how to make the ringmaster hat!! And any other hat!!!! I loooove seeing someone who has about as many hats as I do!!! Love the collections management series!!!
Thank you Thea! I filmed a bit about the brown tassel hat too but my camera had stopped recording so I missed like 2 hats and that was one of them! The other was the felt and feather hat I wore for the into/outro 😅
Thank you Ashlee! I think the fellow dinner patrons of Denver may see that hat when it's safe to go to restaurants again ha! They will be very confused 🤣
Had to finish watching today. Thank you for saying who the maker was so informative. I collect hats also..but by designer not so much by color. Just got a John Frederick's hat box.next to impossible to find. Please post hat updates when in the mood. Wishing you good dates and fun times. * love the ironing board. John
Hey there, I love all of these hats and would love to see you do a video of all of your favorite movies or TV shows to watch for inspiration. Any that you think the costumes really show off the 1940s style. Thank you for all that you do!
Love all the hats. I had to laugh when you said you felt like a bank robber in an old cartoon when you put on your mask. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks that. 🙂
This show and tell was totally fun and very interesting. I only wish we had been able to see close-ups of some of the hats which had unique designs or materials. But beautiful to watch anyway. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this. I trained as a milliner, so I LOVE hats, especially old ones. The one that uses casein - that's a man made that comes from milk, if I remember correctly. Maybe the one that says 'protein fibre' is the same sort of thing?? And on the possibly 80s one - styles like that were definitely around then - hats had a mini resurgence in the 80s, thanks to Princess Diana, and that vagely hostessy style was very popular.
Wire hats are easy to make if you have patience with fiddly work. I imagine since you have a lot more patience than I do for beading, plus you're experienced with jewelry making, you'll manage a wire hat just fine. I believe Vogue Patterns may have even re-issued a wire-hat pattern a while ago if you want something like a pattern to start you off to get in the swing of things.
I enjoyed this two-part tour of your hat collection. It is a wonderful one and everything suits you very well. A few of the hats reminded me of hat styles from different countries. The floral one reminded me of Ukrainian folk dancers and the black one with a feather, I think it was, reminded me of the Scottish Glengarry caps. I own a few ball caps but that’s pretty much it, but I do so love to look and listen. It’s fun to imagine what kind of past lives your vintage hats may have had. One might have been out sipping champagne in a night club, all decked out in matching accessories, or maybe perched atop a well coiffed hairdo, out for a Sunday drive while imagining what the future will bring. Or maybe another could have been worn by the fireplace, in a ski lodge cabin while flipping through one of those Montgomery Ward catalogues and sipping hot chocolate. When one is alone and can’t travel or leave the house these days, one has to rely on trips of the mind! 😅 💜
I found one of those 1940s hats with the ring on the back at a local "fill a bag for $1" sale and was beyond excited lol. I paid like 12 cents for it and it's just so sweet if a bit damaged. I felt like it needed rescuing. Your collection is incredible 😍 I'm always impressed by these videos you do. If you ever decide to take up millinery for yet another hobby I feel like you'd probably make the most extra couture hats ever. Just saying lol. Lots of shifting fabrics and interesting textures. 🤔
5:55 🌹 🌹 ohh beautiful rose flower hat what a glorious way you’ve accessorize the Reds looks so pretty with your dark hair I really love reds but my hair is red so it doesn’t stand out.
It's called the Paris Street Fair Market, and the best are the June and July ones as they have the most vendors! Not sure how this year will be though 😬
I love your hat videos! Please make one of those 50s clamp hat thingies! I want one but can't find any so I need to make my own. Or two. Or ten... 😂 And that golden with feather is so pretty. You should keep it and use it.
I have been wanting to make hats so badly. I usually study vintage hats so I can try to create some in the future. Hopefully you will take on creating hats and teach how you created yours.
Ohh I’m into hats more and more, I wore a navy pill box to vintage torque fest this past weekend. It was really windy 🌬 45 mph dust bowl. I had two hat pins on. I was not glamours after hours the pinup show, then dancing. Anyway I did a full day with a hat and it saved my hue style, I got to see what I s like to live in hat “lifestyle”!!
I love the gold feather hat and I would wear it out anywhere!! It is fabulous and very attractive on you! It's playful and sophisticated at the same time. The green and blue stripe is great! I love hats!! I wear them all of the time. One reason I wear them is because I have to, as I have lupus so I need to be protected from the sun at all times, but I wore them everywhere long before I was diagnosed. I like the wide brim hats with the feathers and flowers on them. I did see a cowboy hat all dressed up with flowers, feathers, veiling and ribbons once and it actually looked great. Didn't buy it though as it cost over $300.00. I do favor large brims that swirl up so I can wear it to the side or straight on with some veiling. Not sure where to look on Etsy in terms of category though. If you have any ideas, please let me know. I somehow ruined my most favorite hat that had a big swirl up in my favorite color purple. The brim got bent somehow, and I tried to moisten it and reshape it, which turned out not well at all. Into the garbage it went. My husband also wears hats all of the time and our group of friends call us the 'lid kids'! LOL! It's so much fun! Thank you for this video. It was great!
Thanks Peggy! I search really vague things on etsy and just settle in with coffee and go through dozens and dozens of pages of results looking for gems really . I'll search like "1950's hat" and just go from there ha
Love the entire collection, Bianca. As for the gold feather headband hat it is beautiful and should be worn out. Would love to see an ensemble match up with it or one made inspired by it.
The black potentially 80's pillbox may very well be 80's. There was a huge surge in popularity in that style of hats, certainly in the UK, thanks to Lady (then Princess) Diana. The 80's does 40's style of hat was a huge trend over here 😊

I really enjoyed the casual nature of these two hat videos, it was like sitting with a friend as they organized their stuff. very chill 10 outta 10!
Thank you Trystan!
Don’t be shy about hats. Wear them. As they say, every queen needs a crown.
I will! I’m going to wear to work and more regular. I have worn 4 vintage hats OUT in the past few month!
Hat tutorials would be so fun!
Hurrah for part 2! You're spoiling us this week. Thankyou for another glimpse into your marvellous collection.

Yep last time my daughter wore a dress was 20years ago she was bridesmaid at my wedding,
My mum wore a suit jacket and a knee length skirt with a hat when she got married. It was in the 90s

When one is alone and can’t travel or leave the house these days, one has to rely on trips of the mind! 😅 💜
P.S. I like the thumbnail picture you chose for this video. 🥰
Thank you Penny! ❤
Enjoyed seeing your collection, thanks for sharing Bianca 😁🖤
I found one of those 1940s hats with the ring on the back at a local "fill a bag for $1" sale and was beyond excited lol. I paid like 12 cents for it and it's just so sweet if a bit damaged. I felt like it needed rescuing. Your collection is incredible 😍 I'm always impressed by these videos you do. If you ever decide to take up millinery for yet another hobby I feel like you'd probably make the most extra couture hats ever. Just saying lol. Lots of shifting fabrics and interesting textures. 🤔
Thank you Holly! I do know how to do some millinery, so we can do some hatting here on the channel in the future!
Oh Id love so see how those flower hats are made, they are amazing!
5:55 🌹 🌹 ohh beautiful rose flower hat what a glorious way you’ve accessorize the Reds looks so pretty with your dark hair I really love reds but my hair is red so it doesn’t stand out.
I need to know more about this street fair in Denver. It would be worth the drive from Colorado Springs.
It's called the Paris Street Fair Market, and the best are the June and July ones as they have the most vendors! Not sure how this year will be though 😬
I believe caesin/casein is a milk protein which was used to make a plastic type material often used to make buttons. X
Such a wonderful collection!!! 💜💜
Thank you Aila!
I feel so inspired now to collect some more hats for my own collection! Thank you for two wonderful videos!
What a fantastic collection, you look stunning as always.xx
Thank you Heather!
I love your hat videos! Please make one of those 50s clamp hat thingies! I want one but can't find any so I need to make my own. Or two. Or ten... 😂
And that golden with feather is so pretty. You should keep it and use it.
Thank you Jenni!
Hi Bianca!! As wonderful as your 1st collection.. Each has there on beauty has its own story….
💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
Loved the 2 hat videos. Some tutorials would be lovely
Thank you Linda!
I have been wanting to make hats so badly. I usually study vintage hats so I can try to create some in the future. Hopefully you will take on creating hats and teach how you created yours.
Love hats!! Great job!
Thank you!
I definitely think you can get away with a gold & feather head dress. Loved all your hats, must start wearing my collection.
Thank you Minette!
oh how I wish I could shop from your hat collection. Thank you for making these two amazing videos.
I love your hats and your aesthetic!!!
Thank you Leslie!
beautiful❤❤❤
Hooray!!!!
@@TheClosetHistorian Thank you!
Loved your hat colection! Thank you for sharing this amazing pieces of joy!
Thank you Iara!
Love the entire collection, Bianca. As for the gold feather headband hat it is beautiful and should be worn out. Would love to see an ensemble match up with it or one made inspired by it.
Thank you! The gold hat with a black suit for evening with gold gloves....not that I've been thinking on it 😉
@@TheClosetHistorian, 😀. I see you doing it. But, what about a gold suit with a black silk blouse and gloves? Now, that is a look.💖
Such a lovely collection of hats. You look great in all of them. Thanks for sharing. ❤️ Lynne
Thank you Lynne!
These videos are super helpful! I have a ton of vintage hats and have no idea how to date them or style them. Thank you so much.
The black potentially 80's pillbox may very well be 80's. There was a huge surge in popularity in that style of hats, certainly in the UK, thanks to Lady (then Princess) Diana. The 80's does 40's style of hat was a huge trend over here 😊
