Use a hand steamer on those vintage flowers. You will be surprised how great they will look. I have been an antique clothing collector for 40 years. i worked for a museum and restored hundreds of vintage hats for displays and exhibitions. Also be sure to steam the crowns of your hats. Put them on a hat block first. The moisture will help with very dry and dusty straw hats. You have such a beautiful face and every hat looks great on you.
My grandma used to love hats, the bigger the better, and then her new boyfriend said they look silly. Now she pretends she doesn't like them. I think you, as a fellow hat person, understand how sad that is. I'm going to have to smuggle some to her when he's not looking.
The black hat with the full face veil, wide brim and faded Milner's flowers, is totally giving me *OOTD to my 4th billionaire husband's funeral* vibes and I'm living for it!! Especially with the dark lip you have on!..ugh!! 😍😍
"They wouldn't let me curate actual museums, so I just decided to buy a bunch of vintage stuff, and have my own museum." Is an actual mood, emotion, and state of being. Same. Just, same
I love that so many hats are so interchangeable, era wise. LOVE hats! Hate getting flack for them. Even in the 80s. I couldn't wear an 80s hat without getting crap about wearing a hat.
I really appreciate the amount of time you put into your editing. Finding all the clips and pictures of you wearing the hats. I can't even imagine how long that must have taken you.
My mom wore hats all the time. I wear hats and love them. At one point I had a vintage hat collection, vintage brooch collection and vintage glove collection. I still have most of the brooches and gloves it sold all the hats but my favorite 2. Since I live in Florida now and am retired (all those nice suits and dresses are gone to better homes) I really need to clear out the gloves and brooches. Seeing your collection reminds me of the pleasure each item gives and sharing hat wearing with my mom. ❤️🥰
Yes! I don't remember all the questions but yes! My mom was born 100 yrs ago and had her own collection of hats. Alas she passed when I was 14 and my father got rid of all her things. I have wanted her hat and glove collection for decades.
I remember the gorgeous multi-coloured striped hat from your blog and I get so disgustingly jealous every time I see it because it's my absolute dream hat! You have such a wonderful taste in hats!
Thank you Ella! It is a good one for sure, I'll be make a striped silk hat here on the channel eventually so others can make their striped hats of dreams too!
You trying to explain why you needed so many black straw hats was like me trying to explain to my mother-in-law today why I needed to buy more fabric. 😆
As a conservation student I spend an unbelievable amount of time designing and making boxes. Frequently I make little acid free trays to divide objects up if more than one is being returned to a museum/owner. If you're worried about things touching in the boxes I'd recommend that method. Also sachets of silica gel pellets if you have any worries about damp (I'm English, damp is always a problem 😂) some moth balls etc can leech acids and other such stuff as well, so making sure that they don't touch hats etc is always fun. I absolutely love seeing private collectors storing things nicely. And seeing your collection, thank you for sharing!
I love hats and I loved to wear hats. Not a fan of "used" hats. Like to buy new hats that look vintage. I have maybe 30 more or less. They live in boxes that I received when I purchased. Boxes are still very nice, bought from upscale stores. I do tend to like the twenties/flapper style. Your collection is amazing, seem to have for every occasion.
You are SOOOOO much like me when it comes to your hats! The way you love them and talk about them...I’m sitting here nodding and agreeing with everything you say! 😂 Makes me want to go buy a hat! And I’m not even half through the video yet! Le sigh..... PS John Wanamaker is and old department store.
Now I want hats... thank you for letting us peak into your collection and inspiring us to not just save these, but wear them and appreciate their style.
I had to come back and watch this again! We have different styles - you actually can wear the smaller size hats. I have a HUGE he’d which is why I love toy tilt hats. You make me want to film my collection as I *ahem* get acid free boxes and acid free tissue to store them. More hats!!! Woot!!!
I was born in 1952 and have pictures and memories of my mom in her hats. Veiled and all. And I remember wearing those "clamped" hats at Easter when I was a little girl. That "luffa" hat looks like ramen noodles. LOL. Thanks for your videos!
I wish I had been more into vintage when my grandmother was alive so she and I could have talked hats, she was born in 1929 so I'm sure she had worn many in her time! And yes it is very noodley, now I cant unsee it ❤
Ms. Bianca I am enjoying the shower loofa hat and all of the black shallow hats! I appreciate your 10 years worth of collecting. I will be viewing this video and the next to come on a "repeat" basis as I absolute adore hats, gloves, wallets, purses, shoes, pins, flower pins, ribbons, etc. - c'est manifique!
I just stumbled across your video - first time viewer. I’m enthralled with your bold retro style and confidence. I love this video like no other…. and I can’t wait to watch Part 2. Keep ‘em coming!!
Ok, so... this video was hard for me to watch. I was overcome with hat envy too many times to mention!!!! You have an amazing collection and I am green with envy. Speaking of green, don't you think you should make a lovely little green silk suit to go with that amazingly beautiful stunning gorgeous striped silk hat you have there? Just saying :-D
Yay vintage hats! Abbey Cox uses archival boxes from The Container Store for her antique and vintage clothing collection. I love your taste. So many cute hats, especially straw hats. Please show us the placement into hat tutorial. Thank you for showing us your collection. I’m binging both episodes.
What a lovely collection! Thanks for sharing them and the archival boxes. I'll be looking into those. I've had trouble just finding large hat boxes, let alone archival ones. I'm just mad about hats and I truly enjoyed seeing yours. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of them.
This is a lovely memory for me when I used to go shopping with my Mum when I was younger. We always went hat trying on .The fluffiest, the biggest or the most extreme.I even did it with my daughters.I am not a hat person, they look terrible on me ,same as with my Mum lol. She was always in scarves, looked better .But stopped wearing them when they became less fashionable. You have a lovely collection though 🥰
The placemat hat tutorial is a great idea! My grandmother used to have a set for every season, I’ll have to see if they are still kicking around some place.
I would love to see a placemat hat tutorial! Honestly, any kind of hat tutorial would be amazing. Also that Blade Runner hat is absolutely stunning, wow
Be still my hat loving heart. What a beautiful collection you have! I also have about 30 hats all of which I wear at one time or another. Most of mine are cloche and fedora style but you’ve inspired me to look for some 40s/50s style ones. 😊
Thank you Susan! Michelle of the channel My Vintage Love has shown some of her hat collection on her channel too and she has the most gorgeous fedora and now I want one 😍
My partner and I were just discussing how people used to wear hats everyday. I vow to find some more. My gran said to me you don't just plonk a hat on, you MUST angle it slightly. And you have totally backed this up. You looks fabulous!
On that shallow brown hat @ 22:54 - those mystery feathers look like the wild turkey wing feathers I find out in our fields sometimes! Owl feathers would have been protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, so I bet they are turkey!
Ah! John Wanamaker's. A high end dept opened store in 19thC Philly, doing business right up through the 1960s. This was my grandmothers' go-to dept store. I recall going there when I was young. At one point they had stores in NY, London and Paris. You have a piece of history there. (The co. was sold in 1976 and the downtown Philly store later became a Lord&Taylor. Now it's a Macy's.)
I got a hat recently that was faded. It was originally black and cause I got it so cheap, and it was straw, I used dye on it and it had such a good effect. I used leather dye, and painted it on. Re: FUN FACT: that combination of blue cornflowers, daisies, poppies and the yellow flowers (can’t remember what they are rn!) - that is a classically Ukrainian flower head dress motif in ethnic dress. I used to dance in a Ukrainian dance group in Toronto (one of many in the city in the late 70s/80’s) and all the girls in every group wore that exact floral combination on their heads with matching trailing ribbons down the back when performing.

I wish I could wear hats, not sure if it is my head/face/confidence, but I appreciate those who can ;) Also I believe the hat with the pink/brown feather is likely a turkey feather.
I look terrible in hats. I’ve tried so many styles and even when I think something looks good. . . photos of me wearing the hat prove otherwise. I need a stylish to crack my head’s hat code.
This is one more issue with there not being hat shops anymore, where one used to be able to go try on many different styles and find which worked best for them!

That 80's hat is so Blade Runner, you could totally wear that in the bar scene. Blade Runner is my favorite movie, maybe why I like your channel so much.
As a senior citzen, can I just add that in the 80's my friends and I used to haul vintage hats for like 50 cents each all the time. It's sad to think how many ended up in landfills back in my day
I am both jealous and also feel the sadness of all the lost vintage that was simply thrown out 😭 I love the bar scene, I wish I could inspect every outfit!
The way that hats are able to completely deny gravity fascinates me - I suppose ... well ... fascinators ... WOAH - open crown hats?! I have literally never thought about different styles of hats and the history of hats. So cool and interesting?! I hope you share more of your historical accessory collections! (side note: as an archivist, I am SO HAPPY to see archival protection for your collections
Enjoyed watching you pack you hats away. I actually went through my hats this afternoon and got rid of one that didn’t suit me. Plus while I am watching you I am waiting for a vintage cloche style hat to finish on eBay to see if I have one it! Your green and black her looks fantastic. 💚
Just so ya know. Every time I am browsing Ebay or Etsy and I see a spiffy 1930's or 1940's hat I think to myself, "I wonder if Bianca has a hat like this?" Hehe. I am loving the hat show and tell! 😍 Thank you for sharing!

Yes, Please. I would like to try making a straw hat from a placemat... and how to add those straps/elastics to hold them on my head.
Yes I have a straw like green place Mat would be amazing to make into a hat. I’m thinking autumn 🍂 Halloween 🎃

People mock what they do not understand I suppose, I fricken love a hat!
I too have a hat problem... I don’t have enough heads. My hats are not vintage but they are art pieces. I’m taking notes on storage.
When the comments all talking about the "ramen" hat, I couldn't picture it and then Bianca pulls it out and I was like ohh yes! Definitely ramen. Lol
"What ramen hat?....oh, yeah, noodles." 🤣
