Thanks Diana! I'm afraid I don't know how the magic of Lilly Ann is done, I have no tailoring training, so it is just as much a mystery to me! This is why I sew dresses but buy suits, because suiting is so advanced to me 😅
I like this type of educational experience. That there are more than just a few items to show is even better. I don't care so much for the constant "haul" videos out there. Especially fast fashion ones, where the items end up in the trash... Vintage however is an investment and as sustainable as it gets as far as fashion goes. You should feel good about all of the things! Everyone has a different idea of treasures and i think those are all beautiful. The misty scarf is the best! Thanks for sharing.

In Rome there are several shops that have beautiful gloves in all sizes and all colours. Magnificent! The best excuse ever to go to Rome - gloves and shoes! Oh, and there are some ancient ruins there too. And really good food! :)

In high school I carried a 1940s telephone purse for years. I wore it out until there was very little that I or my mom could do to fix it despite us both being crafty sewists. I still mourn that damn bag. I wish I still had it today. what a fabulous gift to yourself for your birthday.

@@bhaka4521 It's less that my Blade Runner dress was inspired by the Lilli Ann's, and more that the original costumes from Blade Runner itself were directly inspired by the Lilli Ann and Adrian suits of the '40s, and then my dress is based off of the BR suit, it's a big circle of inspiration really 😂

When I saw the Spanish comb I got sidetracked into looking up the name of it. I knew the name of the laces scarves, manilla. The name of the comb is peineta. And boy did I slide down that rabbit hole! I love scarves, gloves, and clips. Hair ornaments are also my jam!

Beautiful item. In not sure I have a favorite they were all so nice!! I asked my mom one time about the dress clips and she had some that were my grand. She said they were normally worn to hold all the straps together with bras slips and dresses in the twenties and thirties so your straps wouldn't shift and show.
I was given a bunch of gorgeous vintage gloves as a child, but didn't keep them; even then the fingers were not long enough and things not fitting correctly causes me severe anxiety... also, I didn't really play dress up 🤷🏽♀️ As an adult, I wish that I would have held onto them for the same reason that the original person had held onto them; there was a blue pair with buttons on the side and a *red* pair with little bows on top if the wrist and a plain black. 💗
My favourites of your finds would have to be the beaded box handbag, the green silk scarf and last but the very opposite of least- that black suit! Finding something like that in my size is completely out of the question, so if I wanted one, I’d have to make it myself. What a find!

I found five lilli ann ensembles of coat and dress from the 60s that are a twelve or 14. I am not a collector but recognized the quality. Look like they have never been worn.

your sheer glove story reminded me of this 2004 artsy French film called Innocence (gosh, I felt so pretentious just writing it) about a group of girls in a strange boarding school. one of the themes is the transition from childhood to adulthood and there's a scene where a girl finds a glove and the glove's touch is her discovery of, say, sensuality... that said, a little deviousness and scandalous necklines is most welcome ;)

I've been slowly amassing a collection of handmade doilies; crocheted, pillow lace,, etc.... such incredibly fine work - so I'm thinking of sewing some kind of blouse that would allow me to wear them like.... a flounce\cravat type thing? So they could be seen and appreciated. Crazy? I'm only just learning to sew, but your beautiful clothes, and amazing collections are inspiring me!
I have a constantly growing collection of cotton vintage doilies too & definitely use them to source lace edging for blouse collars & cuffs, skirt decoration etc. Am hoping to do a really good A-line black cotton skirt at some stage with white doilies scattered on it like snowflakes!

I know it is a year later, but I had never seen a long strip “plastic flex” clutch outside of my ward’s catalog (which I hadn’t paid attention to) until I saw yours. And then about two weeks ago I searched “vintage plastic purse” randomly and one “popped up” in all black…for $36 total!! I was so excited! Snapped it up in about 30 seconds flat. I loved those black gloves. My grandmother has been working on clearing out her attic. She came across some of her mom's clothes, some of her old handkerchiefs, and found a box of her old gloves from when they were something people were expected to wear. She never really cared for them so when they moved out of fashion she stopped wearing them. There is no hope of them fitting me as her hands are smaller but Im very much looking forward to having a look at them. Unfortunately I have a bad case of poison ivy right now that makes touching things not a good idea so I have to hold off. One fun things is she wrapped a bunch of stuff in newspaper before packing it away so we know this all was packed in 1981 even though its older. P.S. yes to a handbag video and scarves as well. But only if its fun for you as well and not too much trouble getting them out and back away again.

I found five lilli ann ensembles of coat and dress from the 60s that are a twelve or 14. I am not a collector but recognized the quality. Look like they have never been worn.
I just happened to stumble across a hidden boutique last week….. double levels of Art Deco Vintage! Oh how I dribbled! As you could imagine, there were pieces from multiple eras. Ah. Perfection.
your sheer glove story reminded me of this 2004 artsy French film called Innocence (gosh, I felt so pretentious just writing it) about a group of girls in a strange boarding school. one of the themes is the transition from childhood to adulthood and there's a scene where a girl finds a glove and the glove's touch is her discovery of, say, sensuality...
that said, a little deviousness and scandalous necklines is most welcome ;)

I've been slowly amassing a collection of handmade doilies; crocheted, pillow lace,, etc.... such incredibly fine work - so I'm thinking of sewing some kind of blouse that would allow me to wear them like.... a flounce\cravat type thing? So they could be seen and appreciated. Crazy? I'm only just learning to sew, but your beautiful clothes, and amazing collections are inspiring me!
I have a constantly growing collection of cotton vintage doilies too & definitely use them to source lace edging for blouse collars & cuffs, skirt decoration etc. Am hoping to do a really good A-line black cotton skirt at some stage with white doilies scattered on it like snowflakes!

I know it is a year later, but I had never seen a long strip “plastic flex” clutch outside of my ward’s catalog (which I hadn’t paid attention to) until I saw yours. And then about two weeks ago I searched “vintage plastic purse” randomly and one “popped up” in all black…for $36 total!! I was so excited! Snapped it up in about 30 seconds flat. Thanks for sharing your collection!

I loved those black gloves. My grandmother has been working on clearing out her attic. She came across some of her mom's clothes, some of her old handkerchiefs, and found a box of her old gloves from when they were something people were expected to wear. She never really cared for them so when they moved out of fashion she stopped wearing them. There is no hope of them fitting me as her hands are smaller but Im very much looking forward to having a look at them. Unfortunately I have a bad case of poison ivy right now that makes touching things not a good idea so I have to hold off. One fun things is she wrapped a bunch of stuff in newspaper before packing it away so we know this all was packed in 1981 even though its older.
P.S. yes to a handbag video and scarves as well. But only if its fun for you as well and not too much trouble getting them out and back away again.
