Great video. The most frustrating part when we were shopping for countertops was we couldn't find stone that matched the vision we had in our head. We decided to go with Stonecoat and recreated what was in our head perfectly using epoxy and love our countertops.
Pinning this comment! Thanks for the great customer testimonial! I owe u one! 🍻
@@StoneCoatCountertops Pretty sure it is me that owes you, Rhonda@RK3 and Keith@KCDC. Saved me thousands of dollars (around $5k), make great products and all of the tutorials helped make it so easy.
That's awesome, Tim and congrats to you! Do you have pictures of your countertops posted somewhere?
And since doing your countertops, what other projects have you done?
@@kcdcdesigns Thanks Keith! I will make a video of our kitchen & counters and email you a link. Maybe you can share it with Stonecoat.
I just saw your video, Tim and what an amazing job you did! Congrats to you!!!!
❤ i met you at your first show in Vagus. I still can not belive all the personal help I got from m the hole gang on my airstream build on my counters ànd other wild spots I n my adventure.
Way to go, Keith!! 👍 A bit of Midwest in the house!! 👏👏 Beautiful finish! 🤎
Thank you so much! Are you from this area, and do you work with epoxy?
Thanks again for watching!
@kcdcdesigns I'm from Iowa City. I've wanted to work with it and love the creations you guys make. 🤗 I'd LOVE to cover our countertops and refinish some older wooden furniture!! 😍 But we don't have the space, and my husband is rather anti epoxy due to the smell and the health issues related to it. I think his information is outdated, but he is a very determined man, lol!! 🤣
@@Kreative_Rainbow Do you have the space to work on some small projects, like TV trays and the like? Once hubby sees what you can create, without any heavy odors, you'll be doing your countertops in no time :) . There's also an artisan in Waterloo that I'm currently working with that I would recommend if your interested, and if he'd travel to Iowa City. Keep us posted how things are going! And I'm speaking for Mitch (and me) when I say this:
You Got This! 😁😁
@@kcdcdesigns Thank you!! 🤗😍
Great job Mitch and Keith, enjoyed the production
That home made beard comb spreader was the star of this one!!! Thanks for stopping by
Thanks, mama! 🥰😁
@@StoneCoatCountertops 🤣
Mitch I’ve look for 1/2” pink board and all the big boys don’t carry it is what you saying you can get from the factory or do you have a good place to find it
I'm your new subscriber. Very interesting. Thank you for your vlogs.
Really nice work Keith… I will have to give this one a try.
Thank you! And please let us know how it works for you!
Well, the more I watch, the braver I get at trying this myself. Guess I'm going to have to buy my tools that I will need, heat gun, propane stuff etc.
Yes, you too can become an epoxyholic! 😁
Keep us posted and,,,,, You Got This!!!
Nice work! 👍🏽
Thanks! Have u used Stone Coat in a project yet?
There is no problem to put kitchen stuff on that epoxy?
Very nice work❤
Great video, from great mem!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Aw, thank you mama Quist! 🥰
I absolutely love this and I would love to learn and become a professional in Making and designing all types of crafts.
Thank you! And where are you at this point? Have you already been using epoxy and/or making crafts?
Great J O B guys Im going to do the foam shower walls this winter and was wondering how to install safety grab bars and bypass doors in the foam.. Thank you for your time and keep in the fantastic work
That was amazing guys ! I absolutely loved it. ❤
Thanks, Matt! Have you tried this finish or something similar?
@@kcdcdesigns no but I do have a prospective customer I will be meeting with in a week that wants a earth tone(s) color for her new counter tops. So this gave me a wonder place as a point of reference to start from with her.
@@mattjensen5323 very cool and I hope they decide to go with you! Keep us posted and if I can help in any way, please feel free to reach out!
Good 👍 job
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks!
Espectacular
Muchas Gracias
We just did just clear coat epoxy and I can say I'll never use a torch again idk maybe my torch was terrible but it kept losing flame and I had to light it multiple times even went out to grab another propane tank plus some of my back splash got smoke marks in it due to flame turning off a few black clouds in it so I'll definitely will only use heat gun less of a chance of flame going out plus torches aren't meant to be used upside down unless you have flexible hose to control it but epoxy came out good have to retouch a few areas your videos are another level thank you
that was happening because it wasn't the correct head on the torch, it needs to have holes in it so the flame doesnt go out when you tip it over. here is the correct torch head - www.amazon.com/dp/B00008ZA09/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=stoncoatcoun-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=d52de85133d121dc3d72f4649502fcf0&creativeASIN=B00008ZA09
Let's Goooo!!
You are awesome, Kristi!
Thank you!
Mitch, when you're putting 2 pcs of 3/4" MDF together, what do you used to bind them together? Epoxy? wood glue? Somethin' else?
Muy buena elección de colores me gustan mucho
You got this!
Beautiful piece. The edges look rough/uneven. Is there a way to make them look smooth all-over?
With this particular countertop we created a rock-faced edge. Otherwise it would be a standard smooth edge countertop.
Can you spray your base color and follow with epoxy while the base is wet? ❤ you guies, thanks for your time
Hey there and thanks for your comment!
If you're asking if you can use spray paint, then apply Stone Coat epoxy while that spray is still wet, yes I've done this. I've poured a small amount of epoxy over the wet spray paint, then melded with my hand to blend/meld the spray paint colors in with the spray paints, then added the rest of the epoxy. Pouring a small amount first made it easier to blend/meld the wet spray paints.
This is assuming of course that your Stone Coat Undercoat Paint has completely dried and been sanded with 220 first.
Did that answer your question?
I didn't think I would like this project, but it looks great!!
I've been watching your videos for like 4 years and have yet to try it. No garage or covered area. I'd love to try it, but I'm worried about dust and debrit getting in it outside. 😞
I think I'd be good at creating them because I'm artsy and crafty. Not so sure how I'd be at installation and customizing size and layout. Could I sell to contractors? What are your thoughts? I'm so intetested in doing it. I've thought about getting a portable paint booth to work in.
All you need is a small area to get started on small projects like sample boards, TV trays, lazy susan's, etc.. I started in my spare bedroom and it took off from there. Just do like I did, buy some and have some fun. Then keep us posted!
Mitch I would like to ask you about the insulation pink board for showers. You said you were talking with 3M about making the board without the cuts for 16inch center. Have you had any luck with that..
I have, I'm trying to get the panels on our site. You can get them directly from 3M and not the hardware stores.
rk3 says they like 1/2 board. doesnt have cuts
I like the white base with undertones. Were the metallics mixed opaque or slightly transparent?
Great question! The White Metallic and Pearl White were opaque, the clear with Diamond Dust had a very small amount of Alumilite White Dye which made it very transparent.
Do you have a favorite design you like to create with epoxy?
I’ve been working samples for white marble/granite look using plastic bag and Montana marble techniques (hints of silver/gray), but don’t want it too busy and don’t want to totally cover the base design. Your spray painted undertones were still pretty visible in this design which is reason reason I asked about the opacity of the whites. I’ll try it this weekend….Thanks for your response! I watch you, Rhonda and Erica for ideas and techniques. 😉 Keep up the great work. 👍
@abucsfanb4tb128 thanks!
The undertones create a lot of visual interest when you're standing over it, but not real prominent from a distance, to keep it from looking too busy, IMO
Nope, that's Bob Ross with his painting, "happy little accident".
Is the heat gun better to use than a propane torch?
IMO, a torch works best for removing/popping air bubbles whereas the heat gun works best for manipulating veins and designs. Either way, just be sure to not overheat the epoxy.
What has worked best for you, or how do you currently use each?
@@kcdcdesigns I haven’t started yet. I’m currently trying to learn as much as I can before I jump in but hopefully within the next few weeks I’ll be started with a kitchen countertop project.
That's awesome! Jump in and start on some sample boards to get the feel of it, and how different techniques can create different effects.
Just be careful, it's addicting! :)
We are now having problems with this stone coat countertops epoxy ... we did a simple white marble effect , and mixed correctly, and applied in the exact step's stone coat counter top's said to do ... now after 12 month's the product is starting to yellow, and not look good ! we did our kitchen , and 2 bath rooms counter tops to match , not only that but we have the house on the market trying to sell it with this problem now happening .... this is very frustrating to say the least .... I just wish I would have used a different brand that did not discolor like stone coat counter top's epoxy has ...
Sorry to hear about your issues. "Ambering" is common, even expected with nearly every type of countertop surface, including granite and quartz (which is actually made with epoxy resin). "Yellowing" is typically caused by a reaction with the colorants used, excessive heat, undercoat paint not allowed to fully off-gas before pouring, etc. I have many customers with white countertops that have been installed for 3 years and although they may have ambered slightly, they've not yellowed (distinct yellow color). I know Mitch and Stone Coat have done many tests on Stone Coat's UV resistance, as well as comparisons with many other brands, and Stone Coat's faired the best.
The one advantage you have, is that you can re-pour your tops at a fraction of the cost of having to replace them if they were granite, quartz, etc..
Can I talk to you?❤
I want to do my own countertop in Africa
Is this Mike's brother or something? He sounds just like Mike, but I didn't watch the channel for a long time, came back to check out some videos and all I see is this guy, but no more Mike.
Hey there! Yes, Mitch is Mike's brother and not only one of the nicest and most helpful guys I've ever met, but he's also doing a great job since Mike retired to spend more time with his family in Hawaii.
Do you work with Stone Coat epoxy or just enjoy watching the videos?
blablabla….
Why you such a hater for? 😂
