- The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is out! The first three MGS games are on Steam! But how good is this collection? In this video, I review the Master Collection version of MGS3 and compare it to other options on PC, like using emulators (like PCSX2 or RPCS3). Finally, a official PC version of MGS3!

Publishers literally releasing IKEA games where you have to take it home and screw it together yourself to get the finished product
Sometimes pieces are missing or are simply wrong and you need to find someone who can fabricate a piece that fits.
??? Its not half bad, prove it yourself
and just like IKEA the parts you get are trash. i bought a bed and it collapsed after 3 months
wow the crouch walking is so cool to see in mgs3
It kinda looks the same as slow walk. Except crouch position
Excellent review, Snake. Age hasn't slowed you down one bit.
Thanks for linking the mods in the description! I hope they fix all the issues in the console versions
At least we have the 3 games on pc without need of emulators the problem can be fixed by the community like always
It's just a shame this is where modern game releases are at. I think the only way out of this hellscape is for people to stop paying for stuff like this so as to avoid in any way endorse this kind of action from game companies. We need to demand better
@@damboulton companies want us gamers to stop buy physical games and want to monopolize the digital market that what make most all of developers lazy they gave us a mess game and after month or even a year to fix the game we need to make a petition to all companies this need to stop games should be optimized and less storage need
Completely agree but I don't think a petition will do anything so long as people are still buying these lazy, money-grab releases. We need to vote with our wallets for things to change @@GhostGamer799
Emulation of PS1-2 is not hard, harder is to get PS3 games to work, but recently MGS4 is running on 30 fps.
Mgs1 and mgs2 were on pc already.
Oh my god someone backported the crouch-walking from MGS3D? That's awesome!
Great video! Kinda made me want to buy the collection, maybe with a huge discount. Still hurts to see in which state they released this game. The low quality audio actually shocked me for a moment... and it took a single modder a bit more than a month to provide a fix.
this version was my 1st time playing mgs3 and it was a flawless experience with the mods, definitely recommend for 1st time players
The wrong gamma levels you mentioned at 1:26 was actually an ISSUE with the HDC, the Master Collection version is more accurate to the original PS2 version.
Bro, I've been enjoying the PC port like crazy. I'm grateful that we have one at all, let alone with modding capability. This *is* the definitive way to play it on PC, even if it does take a few tweaks and mods. I have the crouch-walk (3DS) mod as well, and it's just a dream to play.
Does it work with mouse and keyboard?
Bro that game has 90% cutscenes. It's better to watch playthrough on RUclips than play this defective version
I am both excited and worried for MGS4 on PC... Hopefully the fact that they're taking so long to release Vol. 2 means they're taking their time to make the port as good as possible... which is the bare minimum you should expect from a port.
It will never get released
@@regularstan6212 wrong
@@SoulbentAnimethere's a lot of licenses renewal for MGS 4 to be released again. The iPod songs etc.
Unless they remove all or change it
@RIELTURO I'm aware of this. It worries me how it'll turn out given all of the product placement in the game.
the game is still available on ps store btw@@RIELSG
Big props to the modding community.
2:39 nice reference ❤
This is why Im a PC guy the community always comes in clutch when Developers comes up short
I want to buy the collection but I'm trying to wait for a discount. I don't agree with the way they released this collection and having modders fix what they didn't. I am a metal gear solid fan.
You can just get MGS2 and 3 separately for cheap and throw in a bunch of mods
Just pirate it.
@@IndividualQuestion Who says I didn't. I still want to buy it but not full price.
Exactly what i needed, great video, thank you.
Started playing the HD collection a few hours ago and this video shows up in recommended videos I swear my phone is listening
1. Widescreen patch for PCSX2 could possibly bring other issues too, not just stretched ui textures. One that I have is the reflections on water at the edges of the screen, basically the part exceeding 4:3. Have this on SLES-82044, not sure for other ISOs.
2. There is a HD textures mod for PCSX2, although the overall look of the game still won't be as good as the HD/Master collection.
3. Comparing to the RPCS3 version is pointless anyway: unless you own a very high-end CPU (and I mean top of the top), you'll struggle to get 60fps in many areas or when rotating the camera. But the problem isn't just fps: unlike many other games, this game's speed is tied to framerate. This means that fewer fps will cause slowdowns and the last part of the game is going to be a slow-motion mess. It's unplayable (unless you don't plan to play at fixed 30fps but oh god) so pretty much everyone should discard this option immediately.
Just do yourself a favor and get the Master Collection version.
Damn the crouch walk one is actually great for people like me who discovered the game on portable consoles,
4K + Mods = Boom, basically MGS Delta.
Veo este video porque habia escuchado que tenia algunos errores y necesitaba saber cuales eran para ver si valia la pena comprarmelo y bueno , lo compro a ver que onda
You’ve convinced me. I’m going with the 3DS version.
Will you do an updated version of this video now that there have been many updates to fix the games?
you make the best reviews
My mgs3 crashes at the start.. help me
I really love it the 4k mod on mgs2. But the loading is 10-20 seconds for stage is hard.
Konami has promised updates addressing some of the issues with the collection. I'm hoping they do it well.
6:36 this should be the thumbnail for the video
FR
I was crossing my fingers to see some of my mods and fixes. 😢
I played the msg3 master collection in the ps4 it was a great experience to be honest except one minor performance issue the cutscene when the fury died those flames were making a drop fps from 60 to 20 but I didn't really get upset and didn't make my experience so bad all I wanted just to play the game to be playable
There's a reshade preset mod that restores the color palettes of the PS2 game which is better imo compared to the HD Collection more muted colors.
Edit : forgot about this comment. The reshade is called master reshade and if you ask me it's a 100% worth it, makes the games color warmer and closer to the OG release
would have been so cool if they would have added the mg3 online mode to it
I've only gotten the crouch walk for MGS3 so far but my partner is helping me to get more mods for MGS3 since I'm new to modding and the MGS series
Crouch Walking? Been wanting that since I saw it on 3DS
anyone else got broken controller support with version 1.5.0? controller works in launcher but stops once you're at the mgs3 title screen.
Honestly these are such small detail problems that doesn’t bother me
I’m just glad these games are more accessible for veterans who love the series and newcomers to get into the series for the first time
Cool and all, but can the downloads be found anywhere that doesn't force you to wait an hour unless you pay them? 😅
So basically, for the PC version to be "perfect", it only needs to fix the rain effects (either Konami or modders), all the other flaws were already covered. Oh yeah, the framerate, still locked at 60fps. The PC has a lot of advantages, especially regarding the backlog preservation... hope Sony port bundles of their "classic" games, like the Jak trilogy, Sly Cooper, Uncharted and so on, that way they will be preserved. I know they can be preserved through the rpcs3, but it's not the ideal really
Indeed it might be the perfect version except that it doesn't have Snake vs Monkey nor the online mode from Subsistence also MGS2 will likely never be perfect since it's the censored European version.
I dont know if someone else has this, but since the game's last update, I can no longer play with mods. I mean, I added them but they just wont work anymore.
Same
As someone who's owned these games on ps2 and 3, I won't need this collection. I'm glad they're on modern consoles and if I didn't have these copies, I'd definitely get this
you dont prefer if this was on steam (owned these games on ps2 and 3) your version to be exact
cause we cant use mods on the emulator i.e level of mods for a dedicated PC version
You can always pirate
If at least can be done the Japanese audio-English text, will be amazing.
I just play it on my PS2 and CRT.
Indeed
I was thinking about either buying this on pc for mods or switch for portability and im having trouble deciding
Which is better.. Buying this game and applying these mods, or emulate the game and setup the emulator to work on 4k60..?
does modding effect achievements on steam at all? heard conflicting things (about mgs1, 2 and 3)
Pretty sure it doesn't, I've got all MGS2 achievements except for 2 of them using a bunch of graphics mods.
You have no idea how much I’m jalouse about the crouch walking 😭
So question. Can you still get achievements on steam if you have the mods installed? Not a modder the 4k would make me play it again.
Finally! A good review on a recent remaster without praising the Original in every regards, I love emulation, but people need to understand having official PC ports are a win regardless, it's good to have options
But Snake vs Monkeys is essential part of the game
When forcing higher resolution, is the intensity of the post processing effects reduced?
I never played these games without pressure sensive controls. What's it like?
hey, i have 16 hours in MGS3 and suddendly it stoped launching, the game just shows me a black screen. Any ideas on how to get the game launching again?
im thinking on get this game but i have a question, does this game version detects botton pressure? like when u are aiming and low your gun?
iirc this version is based on the 360 version in terms of control layout
So what should I go for?😅
RPCS3 or Ste@m with mod?
I really interested in Snake walk while crouching...
Definitely Steam with mods. One big reason he didn't mention is that the steam version even when running at 4k barely pushes the GPU + CPU, whereas rpcs3 will be pretty taxing on both when upscaled and you'll get performance drops at times.
The asian versions have had asian control standard removed on Steam, it is only an option on PS4, they refuse to patch it in.
Crouch should be the same as cancelling, as it stands crouching is used to confirm.
Konami refuses to acknowledge this issue.
Snake vs Monkey plus the cinematic mode too
and boss rush which is something I think should have been in the port but whatever
what's up with all these "remasters" with low audio quality?
I'm glad to see no one in the comments calling the devs lazy. There's a good amount of issues with this collection but that's Konami's fault for rushing it out (because they couldn't renew some of the historical footage they wanted to get this out asap to make up for not having the old HD versions online). The devs have clearly put a lot of thought and work into it and it's unfortunate that they weren't given the proper time.
What devs? Literally, who specifically are you referring to? It's a port of a port of an already fully developed game.
When people say "lazy port" they're referring to the lack of features and the absence of any improvements (plus it's actually a tangible retrogression in several ways, which are mentioned in this video). This is not calling into question the intention or work ethic of anyone in particular, but a (well deserved) critique of the actual product itself.
@BigDaddyWes the thing is whoever is responsible for the port itself did a pretty bare minimum job here. In some cases below that when the audio is worse than previous releases.
@@BigDaddyWes They went out of their way to fix existing issues with the HD Collection and do things like the memory card emulator. There are still people working on ports even if they're not a new game. There was a lot of thought put into it, it was just rushed by higher ups. There's many issues but it's not lazy. I see a lot of dismal of the effort they made elsewhere and I was glad to see that wasn't the case here, that's all.
@@PhantomRetrospective "Went out of their way" that's literally their job. They didn't fix any existing issues that came with those versions. They literally didn't even bother changing the watermark or the intro. They promised it would be 1080p and blankly lied by releasing it with 720p lock. The game didn't even have an option to change volume. The textures are garbage, the audio quality is garbage, colors are washed out, the legit ps2 version looks better. There are significantly cut content (80 dolar collection by the way) I get it that you're a brainwashed fanboy but riding a horrible company who intends to do bare minimum for their fans will achieve nothing.
@@IndividualQuestion I literally said it's Konami's fault... Criticize the issues and blame Konami but it's not cos the devs are lazy. And they literally did fix issues with existing HD versions. That is just straight up a fact.
Komami the entity =/= dev team
yalls I'm considering playing some of the games from this series, so what do you recommend?
play mgs 2 and 3
play the first one first please 😅
They’re some of the highest rated games of all time lad. Do your life a favour and start at MGS1 and go from there. You won’t regret it
play them in release order like god intended
Personally i think the only mod that is "needed" is the resolution fix, but it honestly isn't needed since it's just some QOL. I am probably wrong but aren't the games locked to 60 fps for physics reasons? Overall i'm just glad I can finally play these games officially on pc without having to go through the pain of emulator settings and all that even though i already have.
No native mouse support was a bad move from Konami. They didn't even bother with the bare minimum. It's still a shooter, aiming with a mouse would make sense on PC.
Wait,So you're telling me they shipped this game without any mouse functionality??????
@@DJPUPPETMASTER-RESURRECTED- Aye, aye
@@leoncca But the Steam info says the game does support mouse functionality to some extent,Can you even aim in first person with the mouse at all?
@@DJPUPPETMASTER-RESURRECTED-Turns out they ended up adding it and I was wrong, but it's so bad it sucks. It emulates a joystick. Konami was very cryptic about it at realese.
@@leoncca Np man,I just hope they do a much better job with the MGS4 port in the future,That's the one I cannot wait to release any longer
gotta love modders
but would you recommend the pc collection over playing on original hardware?
Haven't played PC version, but recently I played on ps2. First time, new to the series, and had a blast. Game on original hardware still looks amazing.
There were moments where frame rate drops during cutscenes, but... I swear it looks like it is on purpose to add a "cinematic" effect.
Overall, 11/10 expierience would recommend to everyone.
4k and stable 60 fps really make these games shine, but if you don't have a powerful pc or a good tv/monitor, but have PS2 and a CRT TV - then it is still a great choice, and the most authentic one.
But I wouldn't want to play PS2 on an LCD.
Hope the rain gets fixed someday!
I’ll prob pick up the master collection should it go on sale, but I’ll still pick up hd collection for 360 so I can get peace Walker hd and have it physical
Another game i will never get but watch
for first play, I'd say pcsx2 is the best because feels more emotional
I have an issue with holding the square button when shooting ANY automatic weapon. It won't let me just aim. It just starts full auto spraying. What do?
If you press L3 it should aim without shooting
@@1Ocelot WHAT?!
@@1Ocelot I Always though it was "press square lightly to aim the press and release "hard" to shiot. Lol
@@akiba5993New controllers don't have pressure-sensitive buttons like PS2 had. There's no difference between pushing a face button lightly or pressing it down hard
You guys blew my mind thank you lol
i hope there's a video how to install these
Does anyone know if there is a Metal Gear Solid 3 mod manager or even just a Metal Gear Solid Master Collection mod manager ?
I had to watch because i saw cccp written on BB armband... When did he join the cccp?
play the game to find out ;~)
"I have a serious question. Why don't game companies hire modders to port their games? They could judge their skill level by the quality of their mods and hire them at a reasonable salary. Modders are often big fans of the games they work on and they respect the original vision. The RE4 HD project is the biggest example of this. Even games like Witcher 3 and Skyrim officially use modders' work."
Rockstar could have made a lot of money with remastered version of their game, even if they spent almost the same amount of money on their trilogy remaster. I believe that if they had hired the top 100 modders, they could have created something similar to the RE4 HD Project Gem and made a lot more profit.
Do u guys think they should hire modders for
RDR and gta 4 remaster
or should they do it themselves
That's what Valve did with Black Mesa
I looked at it on Steam and didn't know anything about Black Mesa. I have to say, they did a phenomenal job. @@morkgin2459
You have the wrong settings for pcsx2 in your footage. The depth of field and accurate bloom effects are fully functional on pcsx2, since about a year ago, unlike on master collection.and pcsx3, which look way worse regarldess of what ultra HD resolution you might force on them.
Best way to play it, visually, is stil pcsx2 by far.
Yeah the PCSX2 fixes are very easy to find, this guy lost all credibility in my eyes if he couldn't be arsed to do the bare minimum research. MGS3 on the PCSX2 is about as flawless as an emulated game gets. People have even made mods for it, before the PC port was announced.
You forgot to mention that on PCSX2 or PS2 fans have a way to play MGO again
The resolution is locked on 720? Didn't even realized it during my 5 playthroughs hahahah
No 21:9 support = instant return for me. I will stick with the alternative versions.
I hope modders are able to include a shoulder-mounted camera, like the 3DS version.
i mean, that was only a thing cause mgs3d was made on peace walker's engine lol
When you mentioned crouch walking added, I dropped everything.
The watermelons look better on PCSX2! Definitely the definitive way to play game!
Im worried 4 will end up being emulated as opposed to a port.
If Konami reléase MGS4 ohh boiii it will break the internet. Would be nice if they make the effort for upgrade textures and graphics and framerate (i'm ok with 60 FPS Cap). And of course bring back the Golden era of MG Online.
"They will try to do many things on a tight budget, unless they are doing it out of passion and can spend reasonably. In my opinion, it would be better to have a one-to-one port of the PS3 version and let modders go crazy with it. However, I do think that HDR and better lighting should be officially implemented."
Does it have mouse aiming or not?
Yes, it does. With mgshdfix mod, you can even tweak the mouse sensitivity.
Sounds good, but is the metal gear solid 1 the gamecube version?, the ps1 version is terrible since we have the gamecube version.
No, and the GameCube version is hot garbage...
@@stinkystealthysloth L
There is a way to play with the classic PS2 controllers?
yeah. use a ps2.
No it doesn't support pressure sensitive face buttons
@@stinkystealthysloth Maybe a mod or something?
The answer is master collection
I do like if that is a mod that make the game run better on Low end pc
Its nice that it " runs" on PC instead of an emulator, but setting this up and modding it into a working and enjoyable state is about as much work as setting MGS3 up with an emulator... Needless to say I wouldnt pay for this collection. Hopefully the upcoming Remake Delta has a better PC port...
EDIT: Got and modded the game into a good state but Konami sure didnt make it easy: A PC port without proper changeable keyboard and mouse controls?, barely playabale with the aweful Konami layout. I had huge issues with the game running at half speed, installed it again but stayed on version 1.2 which doesnt seem to have this problem.
Hopefully Delta releases in a hopefully better state, but seeing how they put minimal effort into this release...
To be fair, the updates and fixes that Konami put out helped a lot too
Man I wanna know why tf this game runs on slow motion on low end devices even though the game doesnt look demanding can anybody explain that?
Use mgs3 fps cap mod and then cap the frame rate to 35 fps. It could run smoothly if you do that, try it.
@@morkgin2459 man it still runs like shit idk why
@@morkgin2459 it doesnt feel like an actual port feels more like the game being ran on an emulator
@@aaryan3004 you sure? The mod is called mgsfpsunlock
Call me odd, but i want the ps2 contols modded into the pc version.
the game is locked at 60 FPS because alot of things are tied tp the frame rate
So even in the 1.4.0 update, some of the HD Collection exclusive issues are still present? That's unfortunate for console players. (Maybe except for modded Switch users as there are FPS / Resolution mods for MGS2 & MGS3)
At least the modding scene for MGS2 & MGS3 Master Collection PC ports are excellent due to its potential (compared to the MGS2 2003 PC port according to VFansss, the modder who made V's fix) exceeding my low expectations.
Shalashaska!
I'm really hoping on modders to pull through on gta trilogy too.
Hopefully the inevitable ‘remastered collection’ will support at least 1080p 60ps when Konami releases it in 2034 😂
The reasonable time frame for my fantasy -
the journey of a Konami fan who gets hired by Konami, works hard, reaches the top position, and says "Fine, I'll do it myself."
When don't modders save the day? ❤
beautiful
0:54 Bro wtf why Ocelot sounds like this😭😭🙏🏿🙏🏿
Master Collection version is the definitive way to play ...due to mods.
thanks to all the beta testers who bought the game on release and fixed all these issues for the rest of us stupid mortals.
