Thank you for this video. I've never played an MGS game before, and was hoping to get into the series until I read the reviews on Steam. But now I know most of those issues have been fixed!
Yes they have a pixel mode and several modes if my memory is correct. You can take off that ugly azz smoothing effect too in that special blue menu. They added a lot of options to it since then including the fake 16:9 resolution.
The PSX Port of MGS1 is the best Version as the PC Version you can buy on GOG has content removed (sadly mostly the Psycho Mantis Fight). For some reason, the M2 Emulator is lacking options to upscale the PSX Version of MGS1. And it baffles me, that MGS2 and MGS3 are running natively on PC but didn't had an option to increase internal resolution. Game preservation = yes. Like this = No. But the goodies Konami added are phenomenal to me, like the Scripts, the Masterbook (basically a "guide") and so on
They kinda took everything out like shaver machine they took it out for MGS two n they took off of snake dream nightmare in the prison for mgs3 n yes im mad at that
But the shaver is still in the game though... I kind of miss the skateboard minigame, snake vs monkey, the nightmare sequence and of course the secret theater, but they were absent since the 2012 remaster collection
I personally would've loved resolution scaling, MSAA and SSAA in MGS1. Duckstation does a great job in offering fidelity options to keep the PS1 pixelated charm but enhancing the visual quality overall.
Great video, i have a question, for some reason in mgs2 on pc, when I'm entering the elevator in the shell one core after covering emma, as soon as emma's last scene sequence is about to load i get a disc error. Please help, can't finish the game because of it
This is a content incomplete collection. Snake vs Monkey would have really been great.... I only bought mgs3 & only because its close to the state it should have launched in
Snake vs Monkey couldn't have been included because they don't own the license to use the apes from Ape Escape anymore. Which, to be honest, is something that should have been provided to Konami for free since we didn't get a new Ape Escape game since the 2010. Just another classic case of a publisher having a strong IP and doing absolutely nothing with it.
How do the controls work for this since there's no pressure sensitive buttons? I'm having trouble picturing how some things work, like running with your gun up if you have to hold the stick down? Some of the more advanced movements that you have to do in VR missions.
Bought snake eater 3 days ago from this, it's better than anything I have played in the last year, ps5 remake I have a suspicion will sell like motza ball's at a brisk 😫
Dude, just cuz it's on patch 2.0 on all but the 2D games I still wouldn't recommend people getting this over emulating it on DuckStation and PCSX2. If they cannot provide a better upscaler for MGS 1 and fix the load times it's all a failure if emulating them elsewhere do better jobs. It will save people over 90 GB that's for sure. The only things worth getting is the 2D games and the special thing. Waiting a whole year is ridiculous.
Really wish I knew about these updates when the game was on sale recently. Was under the impression the game still didn't have anti-aliasing and I just couldn't justify that. Guess I'm holding out for another sale.
The SH2 remake got an update recently that fixed a lot of the performance issues, primarily the stuttering (which was being experienced even on computers running 4090's), it miight be better now for you, but I can't say for sure. I'm not a fan of Bloober Team, but in fairness to them, pretty much all UE5 games are having these kinds of issues. Also, shot in the dark, but are you keeping track of your temps? You might be having an overheating issue, that can cause hard crashes and BSOD's while playing games. It's a good idea to keep something like hardware monitor or Speccy open in the background and alt-tab every once in a while to check temps or keep it open in a second monitor while you game. I mention it because I'm having issues with CPU overheating myself and that was an early indicator of the problem for me.
About the resolution fix. I understand that fans released a patch on the same day however the most important problem with that patch was that it broke many effects in MGS2 and 3. The original HD collection already had reduced effects in moments like Snake's landing on the tanker, which were made worse when rendering at 1080p and higher. I was hoping that being a fan of Metal Gear you would actually cover this important detail, since I can't find any information online about whether this "simple fix" actually keeps those visual effects intact. Honestly it's a bit rich of you to call the developers lazy or incompetent when you've overlooked this key part of why the collection was probably locked to 720.
Konami is a massive company, and in a modern day climate where most people have at minimum a 1080p, on consoles and pc's that can boast 4k on modern games, locking the game at 1/4th of the resolution because it has some bugs isnt a good excuse in my opinion. Konami should at the very least give the option to go higher even if it does look a bit crap, and maybe, if theyre do a decent damn job, even fix the bugs that ccome with them, especially if theyre charging $60 for it
@@galactica_2 "even if it does look like crap" then we would be complaining about how all the effects are lost. I agree that they should find a way to mitigate those bugs but I don't like this attitude that it's a simple fix.
Hi, I maintain the Metal Gear Solid Community Bug Tracker. I can confirm that Konami's high resolution updates ALSO has the same effects scaling bug with depth of field, rain, ECT, as MGSHDFix has. That is why they opt'd to limit the maximum internal resolution to 1080p and all the higher resolution options (1440p/4k) are achieved through FSR upscaling - it was their way of cheating to keep the effect strength somewhat similar to how it is at 720p - but it is still noticeable sharper than it should be.
@@afevis Thank you. I suspected that when Konami said they were using some upscaling it was to maintain the lightning and other effects. Ideally there would be some way to keep the effects at any resolution but I get the feeling that some part of them is hard-coded to the original 480i resolution.
I absolutely agree with you but I found that by playing MGS1 on Retroarch emulator with it being upscaled to 4k it looked super clean and sharp with all the right settings to correct glitches but MAN it took a LOT of experimenting to get it right. I found all the effects to be intact but certain other settings had to be enabled when rendering it at higher resolutions. All in all I find it to be the best way to play MGS1 and I’m very picky about the little graphical details and I found all of them intact and sharp. If there was anything missing, I’d be damned because I couldn’t notice anything lost and I’m usually very detailed oriented. So if emulators can pull it off with their unique settings to fix graphical errors, then the actual developers should be able to do MUCH better than this.
Mgs 2 still has an issue on PC when rendering above "original" on internal resolution and upscaled to 4k. I get around 25-40% of runs killed by the Stillman tutorial glitch. This is solved by setting internal resolution to original (I.e.720p) and output to 4k. Apparently, this crash was introduced after the 2.0 patch. I was playing ps3 and og substance on PC (with V's Fix) without this issue. Which, in my opinion, is probably the best version to play - PS3 Legacy Colletion. Aside from the long load times.
0 crashes here using MGSHDFix, it's even better than Konami's official method since it's NATIVE resolution instead of FSR upscaling - which makes the picture blurrier. (There's also additional bugfixes such as water reflections being broken that are baked into MGSHDFix as well, so it's still recommended even if you aren't going to use the resolution options it provides.)
Do you want to know why it took this long while modders fixed things in a fraction of that time? 1) Never underestimate the power of autism. 2) All the actual people in the industry left for other sectors and most people are juniors with no guidance and brought up ob youtube tutorials. Those former professionals are now back in the modding pool and do it for the challenge.
I haven't played MGS2 since before the rendering patch. There's no MIPMAPPING/Texture Filtering option specifically, so I hope those orange and brown panels all over the Big Shell have sharp lines that extend across the render distance. If not, I'll be upset, still. I do not want to see textures losing detail and blurring in the distance of MGS2.
Not defending anyone here and with that being said however, 1st of all, don't know much about fixing game issues, but fixing game issues late better than never. 2nd, it is believed that about each system has different issues. 3rd, people in charge needed feedback to fix what's broken as quick as possible.
I’d only buy these on switch if it was 60fps or on a massive sale. These games ran so much better on objectively worse hardware and it’s clear they’ve not been optimised with those download sizes
I seen a second hand copy for sale in CeX on PS5 at £40. Debated it a little. Open RUclips and this video is the first recommendation. Creeped me out slightly but, I'm still unsure if it's definitely worth £40. Maybe just wait 'til Christmas?
Lets be honest the biggest problem isn't so much the glitches and bad Framerate locks, it isnt even that it took a year to fix most of them. The biggest problem is most of the problems weren't in previous collections releasef years ago, and if I remember and heard correctly weren't even in the original release versions. If you have a worse framerate in a re-release of game 20+ years later you should know better than to release it in that state. A re-release should always be atleast as good as the original, ideally better but if its so long after the original release that its practically the only way to play it unless you saved your old versions and systems I can let slide that its just as good but definitely not worse than the originals.
I just think its ridiculous they're not using the Substance and Subsistence versions of MGS2 and 3. Why not just re-release that HD collection back in the PS3 days? Im also one of the few people wgo would like Twin Snakes re-released
well after this video i might ask for the game christmas this year, and seen on how a physical copy has dropped by 30 dollars and after seen this video, it might be a big yes
Have the fixed hold-up mode yet? Snake would get stuck holding his gun up even running around and I couldn't hold up soldiers. It made that mode useless.
Konami burned my trust. The games were mostly worse than ever! Inexcusable. I’m impressed and relieved they didn’t give up on the games, and glad that I own them, but like CDPR’s Cyberpunk debacle, they really shouldn’t have sold us broken games. Apologies mean less when they knew darn well they were selling incomplete products passed off as top of the line. Scummy business practices.
My phone is literally running MGS at 4K 120 FPS, unlike the console version. I'm really disappointed that this shit costs almost $60 when I can emulate the shit out of these games with better performance ON MY PHONE than a console. I think I'm reconsidering if I'm buying a next-gen console or a PC.
I got it for 36 dollars. I knew day one it wasn't worth the price. I know on pc they have mods to make the resolution and other things better for this collection which is why I wanted to support this. I also bought silent hill 2 and I will say yes it's demanding. They have been working hard and fast to optimize the game for all people pcs. I hope you are able to upgrade early next year when all the new gpus come out. AMD and intel fighting for your money. Nvidia will set the prices and force consumers to fork up more. So I hope your gaming experience is better in the future.
Buggy, incomplete, glitch-riddled 💩storms that ruin what should be a solid, enjoyable, COMPLETE experience seems to have been a thing since possibly the PS3/Xbox 360/Wii era, and has only gotten worse over time. So I doubt anyone is gettin' it right like that nowadays.
There just ports no issues for me on ps5 it’s only pc that had tons of issues this collection was great don’t care what anyone says it’s metal gear on modern platforms that’s enough to buy it
Thanks for the video. I bought it on release and immediately refunded. I will maybe get this game again in the future on sale, but even though I love these games. The window I had to play them passed away. I'm waiting for Delta now and playing other stuff. They had their chance.
I'm glad they finally fixed the games but why only MGS2 and MGS3?I'm still pissed that they havent keyboard bindings for all isometric MG games and mouse support for MGS1,Like literally what in the hell are they waiting for?Why only fix a number of games instead all of them at the same time?I just hope the said issues will be fixed soon but knowing Konami and their incompetence it could literally take another year....
SH2 stutter appears to be traversal stutter meaning it happens when new zones are loaded into system memory. Since the delta team has opted to keep the original zone transitions it would be reasonable to expect that they are masked during scene transition or will only occur slightly after loading in.
Sad to say that it took you this long to realize that Konami doesn’t care. I stopped buying their games after Phantom Pain. I didn’t even bother with metal gear survive.
Sounds like the best strat is to simply not buy games day one? I don't think anyone forces you to, and you probably have thousands of games available to play.
Punishing you for buying on day one seems like the standard. I bought Shin Megami Tensei V on day one, now I feel like an idiot, paid 60$ for the inferior version of the game, and I've no way to upgrade it but to pay another 60$ for the better version (no thanks btw).
I would like to remind people that it isn't just sh2 and metal gear that suffer komani bad management. Atm yugioh is in a crisis too and komani in general doesn't seem to care that a lot of player/collector do quit the game. So do i trust komani to learn from their mistake ? I feel like the answer is simple they simpling don't care. Fixes were so slow that i end up wondering what they were working on and seeing the state in which sh2 release on they were not working on that either. And don't get me wrong i know both of those project have a different dev team. What i actually saying is how komani qa thought of those game and said "that's fine we can release it". Thankfully they did release a patch for sh2 quickly not sure if it fixes most of the issues or not but i think it give a good idea in which state delta will release on.
Waiting for that console patch to hit and hopefully run at 4k 60. Truly can’t wait till we finally can get MGS4 with the next collection. I swear if they skip it and add the acid games and such instead, I dono what I’ll do, lol. I really hope we get Portable as well. These games were gems on the psp.
4k is the demand for something to be adequate now? Jesus that's a fast moving goal post. And why anyone wants an action game to be in 60fps, which has less weight, is a mystery to me.
@ MGS 2 and 3 would benefit with the fluidity of it literally be an action / stealth game. 4k isn’t a a big deal, but these are some old games that should get a re-rez and some love with the overall appeal. Speaking for actual frames, you must not even own a PC. I run a 4080S in my rig, and if you haven’t played anything that’s in 4k at or above 60fps and can’t tell the difference for the overall experience, you’re tripping. Go play some 360 games and get back to me about how they feel now.
I have mgs1, mgs2 substance, and mgs3 subsistence all cib. I even have an upscaler for my PS2. I have no reason to buy this half assed rerelease and no reason to give konami any money.

Thank you for this video. I've never played an MGS game before, and was hoping to get into the series until I read the reviews on Steam. But now I know most of those issues have been fixed!
Does the mgs1 game now have a pixelperfect mode? I dont like the smoothing options on ls1 games. Does someone know?
But the goodies Konami added are phenomenal to me, like the Scripts, the Masterbook (basically a "guide") and so on
Thank for covering the update. I agree it's wise to treat Konami's upcoming games with skepticism. As the saying goes: "No Preorder ⛔"
If I remember correctly MGS on ps1 always had 8 way movement it was on a dpad at release
Correct. However I *believe* it supported the Analog Controller, too?
it's got a 360 movement, albeit imprecise
I personally would've loved resolution scaling, MSAA and SSAA in MGS1. Duckstation does a great job in offering fidelity options to keep the PS1 pixelated charm but enhancing the visual quality overall.
Great video, i have a question, for some reason in mgs2 on pc, when I'm entering the elevator in the shell one core after covering emma, as soon as emma's last scene sequence is about to load i get a disc error. Please help, can't finish the game because of it
I kinda wish they added trophy support for the nes games. Lol
A true die hard fan. Props!
How do the controls work for this since there's no pressure sensitive buttons? I'm having trouble picturing how some things work, like running with your gun up if you have to hold the stick down? Some of the more advanced movements that you have to do in VR missions.
Just look up the manuals for the Master Collection games and you will find out.
Still waiting for the 4k console update.....
Nice video 👍🏼
How is the Switch Version today?
the original HD collection is still 720p?
On PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360? Yes 720p there.
The HD collection is upscaled to 1080p on series consoles. And mgs 2 is 60fps
Me who played first this summer: ooohh so that’s why I had trouble!
Me who sees the problem was already fixed when I played: 💀
I say it again and again KONAMI SHOULD HAVE CALLED NIGHTDIVE TO DO THIS REMASTER
Spreading the word doomslayer? XD
Yeah, Nightdive are the remaster GOATS.
Who's NIGHTDIVE?
@@MrEffectfilms they remastered doom1 and 2 and quake very recently and are the definitive 'Official' way to play those games
@@manlymcbeefinton2014 ah okay 👍.
Thank you for the update
I completely agree with you. I waited to buy the game until now on PC and on sale. It is unacceptable that they took this long to fix basic issues.
Wait...are you only recommending the PC version or is the console version fixed too?
What about the audio problem in mgs1 and the other games?
Do these fixes apply to the consoles version or is it mostly PC?
I haven't played MGS2 since before the rendering patch.
There's no MIPMAPPING/Texture Filtering option specifically, so I hope those orange and brown panels all over the Big Shell have sharp lines that extend across the render distance.
If not, I'll be upset, still. I do not want to see textures losing detail and blurring in the distance of MGS2.
Not defending anyone here and with that being said however,
1st of all, don't know much about fixing game issues, but fixing game issues late better than never.
They still haven't bothered fixing the sound issues on the Switch version.
Can you remap buttons on console?
Time to play Ground Zeroes for the 800th time!
I trusted Rockstar and preordered The Definitive Edition, and regretted it.
£50 for a port of a ps1 game and 2 ps2 games is wild
They should have used Twin Snakes, and edit out the Nintendo references
I'm mostly sad about no Metal Gear Online with MGS3
3:33 all the games in the collection are emulated. All of them.
Also a smoothing filter would look horrible on a PS1 game
New update is out! Fix your old, out of date video!
I think it’s a great collection. I’ve never had any problems.
There just ports no issues for me on ps5 it’s only pc that had tons of issues this collection was great don’t care what anyone says it’s metal gear on modern platforms that’s enough to buy it
I'm glad I have the Xbox One digital releases and bought them for $10 each.
it was never really bad. especially to a casual, they wouldn't notice any of the issues.
No resolution patch for console still is baffling. I will NOT play this collection until we get all the updates detailed in this video
I just picked up MGS Legacy collection for PS3 instead. I can play it in RPCS3. It cost the same price, had nome of these issues, and it included MGS4
So is the console version ok now?
For some reason the PS5 version of MGS2 and MGS3 are still 720p even though the system is more than capable of running them at 4K.
They just released a 4k Patch.
@@takeohThat is some amazing timing.
10:18, probably the same specs(Same Engine), PC port will stutter, just like SH2
Well, SH2 wasn't made by Konami, so I am a bit optimistic here. But if the perf is bad they're not getting a cent.
You play ps2 game on ps5, we all be cheated by konami, same graphic, no improvement but you buy on ps5 price, its insane
still gonna wait till it´s almost free... and BTW, they are gonna fukup MGS3 Delta
Because that’s how 2 and 3 ran on the hd collection for 360 and ps3 and these are just ports
Vol 2?
Thankfully every issue with MGS2 & 3 can be fixed with mods
Original hardwares still are the best way to experience MGS 1, 2 and 3. Otherwise 8 bit games work pretty good.
you are right ! absolutely unacceptable ! I have the games on PS2 and won't buy this again
"You can know upscale the games to 1080p, 2K and 4K" so 1080p and 4k, what about 1440p, properly known ax 2.5K?
The fact that console is still 720p a year later is infuritating
I have mgs1, mgs2 substance, and mgs3 subsistence all cib. I even have an upscaler for my PS2. I have no reason to buy this half assed rerelease and no reason to give konami any money.
For some reason, I didn't get anything like that on my NS. I'm not bragging or anything, but it does seem strange for one of the worst consoles on the market has a functioning MGS Collection.
Answer : yes
It was a cash grab, they were trying their luck.
I don't think you know what cash grab means. There's no other way to buy it.
