I'm a bit late, but I own the collection on the switch and enjoyed it. Obviously keep in mind, the graphics updates haven't and likely won't come to the switch and it can be hard to play the game with the joycons. But it's perfectly playable. Docked and with a pro controller, it was quite enjoyable, but if possible, any other system would be the better version unless the portability is a deal breaker. Also, note i am biased as I have been looking for a legit way to play these games for years.
Regarding SH 2 remake. Bought the 2 day early edition, I had one crash, not a BSOD (can't remember the last time I got one either), just crash to desktop in my ~21 hours playtime so far. And the ghosting with things like leaves blowing in the wind when using DLSS was a known issue that the latest patch fixed (and added DLSS frame gen, and FSR 3 frame gen). The traversal stutter is a def issue as well. But other than the annoying stutter from time to time when running from one area to another I was able to play it maxed out with hardware RT, at 1440p, DLSS quality on my 3080 and 7800X3D. The 1st patch came out like a day ago. Played ~1 hour and the traversal stutter is def improved. Not fixed but a noticeable improvement. Honestly in terms of performance it turned out much better than I expected (because it's Unreal Engine on PC). Anytime a UE 5 game releases on PC I'm interested in, I'm always nervous about performance (fingers crossed for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2). Star Wars Jedi Survivor is still getting patches on PC because of how bad the stutter is in that UE 4 game (got a ~9th patch last month).
SH2 stutter appears to be traversal stutter meaning it happens when new zones are loaded into system memory. Since the delta team has opted to keep the original zone transitions it would be reasonable to expect that they are masked during scene transition or will only occur slightly after loading in.
I'm glad they are addressing these issues, but its crazy to see how the fans were able to fix most problems within a day. I've played MG1 on DuckStation and MGS2 & 3 in the master collection with those mod fixes, and i'm not sure if the improvments Konami released are superior. Hopefully when Master Collection Vol. 2 releases we'll not have any issues with MGS4
If you need a list of all the current bugs for your video, Google "Metal Gear Solid Master Collection - Community Bug Tracker". It's really in depth with all the current & fixed issues. :3
Hoping for future releases, it's a 50/50 chance. On one hand, they realized their mistake on the tech issues Vol 1 has, and they seem to be taking their time with getting Delta and Vol 2 right and not rushed like least time, but on the other hand, this is Konami we're talking about, incompetency is essentially their middle name, so take it with a pretty big gain of salt.
The PSX Port of MGS1 is the best Version as the PC Version you can buy on GOG has content removed (sadly mostly the Psycho Mantis Fight). For some reason, the M2 Emulator is lacking options to upscale the PSX Version of MGS1. And it baffles me, that MGS2 and MGS3 are running natively on PC but didn't had an option to increase internal resolution. Game preservation = yes. Like this = No. But the goodies Konami added are phenomenal to me, like the Scripts, the Masterbook (basically a "guide") and so on
Great video my man :) used to watch you stream (sartorialbear) enjoyed your speed runs wasn’t aware you made videos Enjoyed this thankyou and merry Christmas
I personally would've loved resolution scaling, MSAA and SSAA in MGS1. Duckstation does a great job in offering fidelity options to keep the PS1 pixelated charm but enhancing the visual quality overall.
the backlash of the master collection kept me from experiencing metal gear when i was 16-17, as at the time i only had a switch and a 3ds. i wish i wouldve been told otherwise to get it anyways, because god damn, im a fan now.
Dude, just cuz it's on patch 2.0 on all but the 2D games I still wouldn't recommend people getting this over emulating it on DuckStation and PCSX2. If they cannot provide a better upscaler for MGS 1 and fix the load times it's all a failure if emulating them elsewhere do better jobs. It will save people over 90 GB that's for sure. The only things worth getting is the 2D games and the special thing. Waiting a whole year is ridiculous.
Have the fixed hold-up mode yet? Snake would get stuck holding his gun up even running around and I couldn't hold up soldiers. It made that mode useless.
I haven't played MGS2 since before the rendering patch. There's no MIPMAPPING/Texture Filtering option specifically, so I hope those orange and brown panels all over the Big Shell have sharp lines that extend across the render distance. If not, I'll be upset, still. I do not want to see textures losing detail and blurring in the distance of MGS2.
They kinda took everything out like shaver machine they took it out for MGS two n they took off of snake dream nightmare in the prison for mgs3 n yes im mad at that
But the shaver is still in the game though... I kind of miss the skateboard minigame, snake vs monkey, the nightmare sequence and of course the secret theater, but they were absent since the 2012 remaster collection
i've never played a metal gear game before but am wanting to try out some of the games, is it worth to buy this editon if you play on consoles (currently i'm using a xbox series x)
How do the controls work for this since there's no pressure sensitive buttons? I'm having trouble picturing how some things work, like running with your gun up if you have to hold the stick down? Some of the more advanced movements that you have to do in VR missions.
I wonder if it make sense now to play this version of MGS3 on PC rather than the RPCS3 one. MGS1 and 2 are super easy to emulate but 3 has a few dips here and there. Though not nearly as bad as MGS4, if Vol 2 will include that it can't come soon enough.
Great video, i have a question, for some reason in mgs2 on pc, when I'm entering the elevator in the shell one core after covering emma, as soon as emma's last scene sequence is about to load i get a disc error. Please help, can't finish the game because of it
The SH2 remake got an update recently that fixed a lot of the performance issues, primarily the stuttering (which was being experienced even on computers running 4090's), it miight be better now for you, but I can't say for sure. I'm not a fan of Bloober Team, but in fairness to them, pretty much all UE5 games are having these kinds of issues. Also, shot in the dark, but are you keeping track of your temps? You might be having an overheating issue, that can cause hard crashes and BSOD's while playing games. It's a good idea to keep something like hardware monitor or Speccy open in the background and alt-tab every once in a while to check temps or keep it open in a second monitor while you game. I mention it because I'm having issues with CPU overheating myself and that was an early indicator of the problem for me.
Not defending anyone here and with that being said however, 1st of all, don't know much about fixing game issues, but fixing game issues late better than never. 2nd, it is believed that about each system has different issues. 3rd, people in charge needed feedback to fix what's broken as quick as possible.
I ended up watching my dad play these games a lot when I grew up and so I ended up wanting to play them but just wasn't really good at them but recently decided to go back and buy them all actually got them cheaper than what they were normally cuz I got them all on sale separately
I seen a second hand copy for sale in CeX on PS5 at £40. Debated it a little. Open RUclips and this video is the first recommendation. Creeped me out slightly but, I'm still unsure if it's definitely worth £40. Maybe just wait 'til Christmas?
About the resolution fix. I understand that fans released a patch on the same day however the most important problem with that patch was that it broke many effects in MGS2 and 3. The original HD collection already had reduced effects in moments like Snake's landing on the tanker, which were made worse when rendering at 1080p and higher. I was hoping that being a fan of Metal Gear you would actually cover this important detail, since I can't find any information online about whether this "simple fix" actually keeps those visual effects intact. Honestly it's a bit rich of you to call the developers lazy or incompetent when you've overlooked this key part of why the collection was probably locked to 720.
Konami is a massive company, and in a modern day climate where most people have at minimum a 1080p, on consoles and pc's that can boast 4k on modern games, locking the game at 1/4th of the resolution because it has some bugs isnt a good excuse in my opinion. Konami should at the very least give the option to go higher even if it does look a bit crap, and maybe, if theyre do a decent damn job, even fix the bugs that ccome with them, especially if theyre charging $60 for it
@@galactica_2 "even if it does look like crap" then we would be complaining about how all the effects are lost. I agree that they should find a way to mitigate those bugs but I don't like this attitude that it's a simple fix.
Hi, I maintain the Metal Gear Solid Community Bug Tracker. I can confirm that Konami's high resolution updates ALSO has the same effects scaling bug with depth of field, rain, ECT, as MGSHDFix has. That is why they opt'd to limit the maximum internal resolution to 1080p and all the higher resolution options (1440p/4k) are achieved through FSR upscaling - it was their way of cheating to keep the effect strength somewhat similar to how it is at 720p - but it is still noticeable sharper than it should be.
@@afevis Thank you. I suspected that when Konami said they were using some upscaling it was to maintain the lightning and other effects. Ideally there would be some way to keep the effects at any resolution but I get the feeling that some part of them is hard-coded to the original 480i resolution.
I absolutely agree with you but I found that by playing MGS1 on Retroarch emulator with it being upscaled to 4k it looked super clean and sharp with all the right settings to correct glitches but MAN it took a LOT of experimenting to get it right. I found all the effects to be intact but certain other settings had to be enabled when rendering it at higher resolutions. All in all I find it to be the best way to play MGS1 and I’m very picky about the little graphical details and I found all of them intact and sharp. If there was anything missing, I’d be damned because I couldn’t notice anything lost and I’m usually very detailed oriented. So if emulators can pull it off with their unique settings to fix graphical errors, then the actual developers should be able to do MUCH better than this.
@RazorBladezX Oh for PS5? This video was talking the updates to the PC version I guess it may be similar for console. The last PlayStation I had was PS3 and I had the Legacy Collection with MGS4 too, but I got rid of it at some point. And I had all the PS1 and PS2 games so this would be my third time buying these but damn I miss my old games 🥺
@@RazorBladezXthat’s the one I got. Glad I waited. Never played the game all the way through so having them on the switch will make it a lot easier to play through them
You were 100% correct! Fans who are likely to buy day 1 are taken advantage of and used a bug testers. MGS1 on Duckstation looks 5x better! I'm going to play it like that
Lets be honest the biggest problem isn't so much the glitches and bad Framerate locks, it isnt even that it took a year to fix most of them. The biggest problem is most of the problems weren't in previous collections releasef years ago, and if I remember and heard correctly weren't even in the original release versions. If you have a worse framerate in a re-release of game 20+ years later you should know better than to release it in that state. A re-release should always be atleast as good as the original, ideally better but if its so long after the original release that its practically the only way to play it unless you saved your old versions and systems I can let slide that its just as good but definitely not worse than the originals.
why the hell would you want upscaling in the ps1 games. Most of the sharpening and upscaling looks jaggy as hell. Its much better to run these games as they are intended on a CRT and enjoy them from what they are, pixel perfect. Never understood this craze for upscaling old games as you mention with duckstation. It looks arguably worse. And there is no way to fix load times for mgs1 as its emulation and preserves original hardware quirks.
it's about time konomi sorted out mgs1 to full screen options and higher resolution like duckstation mgs1 is one of my most favorite games and was so disappointed when i purchased the master collection with this game. Hideo Kojima would have made sure it was a pure masters collection
Mgs 2 still has an issue on PC when rendering above "original" on internal resolution and upscaled to 4k. I get around 25-40% of runs killed by the Stillman tutorial glitch. This is solved by setting internal resolution to original (I.e.720p) and output to 4k. Apparently, this crash was introduced after the 2.0 patch. I was playing ps3 and og substance on PC (with V's Fix) without this issue. Which, in my opinion, is probably the best version to play - PS3 Legacy Colletion. Aside from the long load times.
0 crashes here using MGSHDFix, it's even better than Konami's official method since it's NATIVE resolution instead of FSR upscaling - which makes the picture blurrier. (There's also additional bugfixes such as water reflections being broken that are baked into MGSHDFix as well, so it's still recommended even if you aren't going to use the resolution options it provides.)
Bought snake eater 3 days ago from this, it's better than anything I have played in the last year, ps5 remake I have a suspicion will sell like motza ball's at a brisk 😫

I haven’t seen any of the issues you listed and I’ve got over 100 hours on the collection since it’s release.
Maybe you're just blind
10:18, probably the same specs(Same Engine), PC port will stutter, just like SH2
Well, SH2 wasn't made by Konami, so I am a bit optimistic here. But if the perf is bad they're not getting a cent.
I'd call it actually pretty good now. Is it worth $60? That's debatable but the product itself was still good.
Great review! I had started working on a very similar video for my channel but you covered everything nicely here.
If you need a list of all the current bugs for your video, Google "Metal Gear Solid Master Collection - Community Bug Tracker". It's really in depth with all the current & fixed issues. :3
the original HD collection is still 720p?
On PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360? Yes 720p there.
The HD collection is upscaled to 1080p on series consoles. And mgs 2 is 60fps
Still waiting for the 4k console update.....
I say it again and again KONAMI SHOULD HAVE CALLED NIGHTDIVE TO DO THIS REMASTER
Spreading the word doomslayer? XD
Yeah, Nightdive are the remaster GOATS.
Who's NIGHTDIVE?
@@MrEffectfilms they remastered doom1 and 2 and quake very recently and are the definitive 'Official' way to play those games
@@manlymcbeefinton2014 ah okay 👍.
But the goodies Konami added are phenomenal to me, like the Scripts, the Masterbook (basically a "guide") and so on
They just updated this a few days ago haha, FHD internal resolution and 4k output resolution. Games look extra crispy now.
@@kenmorrow86 Will check it out. Thanks for the heads up!
Great video my man :) used to watch you stream (sartorialbear) enjoyed your speed runs wasn’t aware you made videos
Enjoyed this thankyou and merry Christmas
Thank for covering the update. I agree it's wise to treat Konami's upcoming games with skepticism. As the saying goes: "No Preorder ⛔"
I personally would've loved resolution scaling, MSAA and SSAA in MGS1. Duckstation does a great job in offering fidelity options to keep the PS1 pixelated charm but enhancing the visual quality overall.
You didn't address the MGS1 audio issues which were never resolved.
Wait...are you only recommending the PC version or is the console version fixed too?
Has the patch for consoles already been released?
the backlash of the master collection kept me from experiencing metal gear when i was 16-17, as at the time i only had a switch and a 3ds. i wish i wouldve been told otherwise to get it anyways, because god damn, im a fan now.
There is a great version on metal gear solid 3 on the 3ds so could have started right away.
For some reason the PS5 version of MGS2 and MGS3 are still 720p even though the system is more than capable of running them at 4K.
They just released a 4k Patch.
@@takeohThat is some amazing timing.
@@takeohand not a 1080 or 2k pack?
Where is the ntsc physical release for ps4?
I haven't played MGS2 since before the rendering patch.
There's no MIPMAPPING/Texture Filtering option specifically, so I hope those orange and brown panels all over the Big Shell have sharp lines that extend across the render distance.
If not, I'll be upset, still. I do not want to see textures losing detail and blurring in the distance of MGS2.
trying to play these on pc is still kind of a pain in the ass since its still kind of resolution locked
They still haven't bothered fixing the sound issues on the Switch version.
I say yes , the one issues I would say with playing on any modern consoles is that you can’t play MGS4 just yet as it’s locked to the PS3z
I got it February, I was just happy to be able to play MGS 1 again
How do the controls work for this since there's no pressure sensitive buttons? I'm having trouble picturing how some things work, like running with your gun up if you have to hold the stick down? Some of the more advanced movements that you have to do in VR missions.
Just look up the manuals for the Master Collection games and you will find out.
@@spyrochrisgamingI did, but it doesn't go into the depth I'm looking for.
Do these fixes apply to the consoles version or is it mostly PC?
Can you remap buttons on console?
Me who played first this summer: ooohh so that’s why I had trouble!
Me who sees the problem was already fixed when I played: 💀
What about the audio problem in mgs1 and the other games?
Thank you for the update
When volume 2 releases. I'm gonna get it on sale. I don't trust Konami
I kinda wish they added trophy support for the nes games. Lol
so can i play these in Japanese? i'll buy it if i can hear Snake(s) in Nihongo.
Not defending anyone here and with that being said however,
1st of all, don't know much about fixing game issues, but fixing game issues late better than never.
I completely agree with you. I waited to buy the game until now on PC and on sale. It is unacceptable that they took this long to fix basic issues.
Vol 2?
They should just release free test demos for reasons like this.
Could someone tell me if there was any censorship in Solid 2 or 3?
Other than a brief content warning (which you can always mod out if it really bothers you), no.
So is the console version ok now?
I seen a second hand copy for sale in CeX on PS5 at £40. Debated it a little. Open RUclips and this video is the first recommendation. Creeped me out slightly but, I'm still unsure if it's definitely worth £40. Maybe just wait 'til Christmas?
I still dont understand why they use emulation for metal gear solid if a pc port already existed (metal gear solid integral has a pc version)
Damn I think Im gonna buy this on sale now
Amazon got copies for $18 for Black Friday, I scooped one up!
@@PlasmaSnake369 my bad should’ve clarified, my copy was for Switch! 🫣
But PS5 and XSX are both at that price as well
@@RazorBladezXthat’s the one I got. Glad I waited. Never played the game all the way through so having them on the switch will make it a lot easier to play through them
I just want MGS2 for Switch to get anti-aliasing. Is that so much to ask?
Thanks for the info, I was skeptical on buying it but at least I know what I'm getting into now. Sounds like it still beats using an emulator.
is the game worth it on the switch
Yes
You were 100% correct! Fans who are likely to buy day 1 are taken advantage of and used a bug testers. MGS1 on Duckstation looks 5x better! I'm going to play it like that
Damm, it's been a year since i played peak?😭
This was only like 1/5th of the issues. There were hundreds of bugs…
I’m still waiting for the snake eater remake 😢
Nice video 👍🏼
I worry about the mgs 4 port, lol imagine a ps5 struggling to run it
I picked it up cheap and still feel cheated
How much did you pay
I picked up this game for 20 bucks. I’m happy with it for that price
it's about time konomi sorted out mgs1 to full screen options and higher resolution like duckstation mgs1 is one of my most favorite games and was so disappointed when i purchased the master collection with this game. Hideo Kojima would have made sure it was a pure masters collection
Where's subsistence
Does anyone know if it’s good on consoles? My PC is a brick from 10 years ago that can’t even run MGS2 on an emulator, so it’s the only one I’ve never been able to experience. I prefer gaming on my PS5. Is it totally broken on consoles?
A true die hard fan. Props!
I just think its ridiculous they're not using the Substance and Subsistence versions of MGS2 and 3. Why not just re-release that HD collection back in the PS3 days? Im also one of the few people wgo would like Twin Snakes re-released
Not sure when the devs realize not to release broken games with promises for fix in future. why not do that in the first place and then releasing?
People that emulate it on PC is laughing right now 😂😂😂😂
I would love to play MGS: Twin Snakes (Game Cube) on console in 1080p.
$18 physical on Switch a year later. Money well spent imo. I don't get having to play day 1.
No it’s not 2 and 3 run at 1080p 60 and 30 respectively
MGS1 is cheaper if you buy it on PSN through your PS3 its £7.99 and its the direct PS1 port, this collection version is £11.99 on sale and sorry its still not worth it
So i got it on my PS3 i already have the HD collection of 2 and 3 on that system anyway
why is the only ps4 US option a download? i want discs, but i cant get a new console right now... and i don't feel like deleting all my other shit on my console....oh well. i guess i should just get a working ps2 to play my originals...or try again to fix my controller port on the one i got
