    I agree that the brush is superior for shorter growth. With a longer beard, I use both now. I use the comb when I apply wax or beard balm and I use the brush for beard oil. I worry that the waxes and balms will gunk up the brush, whereas the comb is easier to clean.

    I have very curly/coarse hair like most African-American men and I've found that combing is most effective for my beard once it becomes pretty long...around 4 months of growth.
    In order for the combing to be effective I wet my beard, dry it off until it's still damp, comb through it upwards then apply beard oil throughout and comb back downwards until it's neat looking.

    As far as a video from someone selling products, I really liked the straightforward and informative nature of it. You didn’t try to shove the Beardbrand products down our throat which led to me doing something I rarely do - clicked the link to perhaps buy a comb. I was disappointed to find that Beardbrand didn’t offer a comb like was used in the video. Like the reviewer, I have thick hairs and find that the fine-toothed "mustache" portion of the combs works best for my entire beard; however, the comb on the Beardbrand site is mostly wide teeth with only a small portion fine-toothed. Beardbrand should offer a fine-toothed comb for people like the reviewer in this video and me.

      soraninja, how much info did you expect to get? He tells you in what scenarios he believes it's good to use a beard brush vs beard comb and he also gives reasons why.
      So again, what else did you expect? read the title next time so you don't get surprised when people are NOT talking about why "cats don't have 9 lives". Noob, you must be new to RUclips.. A video title explains its corresponding video data.

    My beard is the size of Carlos Costa's (but not nearly as beautifull since I'm a blonde and have the salt and pepper colours going on)
    I only use the brush (boar bristles) when I haven't showered and don't use products. NEVER use the brush more than once a day, I find it takes too many hairs out. I don't use products (not even oils) when using the brush so I'm sure I'm only brushing the beard not putting something else in there.
    Always go for the comb when using products, but don't plow through, have multiple comb-strokes when you feel your beard is tangled up.

    i have a friend that has an horrible beard and hair; long and stinky, he refuses to trim his beard or shave. i swear he stinks ALWAYS. He is like my brother, we know each other from a lifetime, but saddly he doesnt want to clean himself or hear advices.
    what can i do?

    • @Beardbrand
      @Beardbrand  8 лет назад +1

      +gac3la It's hard to give someone advice if they aren't ready or willing to hear it. That's a tough spot you're in, but there are a few things you can try. Give little nudges in the right direction, maybe mention how great beard oil smells, or how awesome a certain shampoo/conditioner is. Heck, send him to beardbrand.com to learn about all the beard-care products that are available. This might pique his interest and make him want to give these things a shot. Unfortunately you can't yell or rant at him, and you can't force him to trim or wash his hair if he doesn't want to. It's a difficult position to be in, but first try the diplomatic gentle approach and see if that works!

    The boars bristle brush is great when you have a shorter beard, like 3-4 months. It just doesn't do anything for mine anymore, I literally have to use a hair brush. I'll use that at home, and throw my Kent comb in my pocket when I go out, just in case.

      Rule #1 about beard growth, never compare your beard to another mans beard otherwise you'll never be satisfied. don't get me wrong I'm jealous AF of this guys beard. But I also enjoy the beard I have as well. It's like relationships, especially if you don't have one (I talk from experience) if you don't stop comparing what you have to what EVERYBODY else seems to have you'll never be satisfied. Wear the beard you have, take care of it with PRIDE. I've seen WAY worse beards just here on youtube than mine. I try to keep that in mind. I have no hair on either side of my mouth, completely bald. But where I do grow hair, chin, mustache, and chops, does come in pretty dark, and moderately thin. And I'm going for, what I like to call, Yeard phase 2 :P

      +jimb0ismyname0 Boar bristle brushes are very easy on the beard. I've yet to lose a single hair from using one. His method is for training your beard to sit the way you want it to on your face. Combing on the other hand, that is something you don't want to do too often.

    hey guys... when you say during the "early stages of my growth" is this referred to 1-3 months, or around the 3 - 6 months mark? i'm consistently using my brush my to direct the growth of my hair. (on month 4 now).
    however, its a very curly beard hair. coarse, rough, thick, brittle, and dense. so you can imagine its hard to deal with! hoping it'll have a more or less consistent direction soon

      +Dasan Widner I'd avoid using them both at the same time - the oil is meant to soften and hydrate your beard, and the wax is meant for styling. The oil may diminish the hold of the wax a bit. And unless the oil and wax are matching scents, the smells may clash.

    +Beardbrand if you haven't used a boar brush before, and you already have a 3 inch long beard can you start using when it's at that length?

    I'm roughly 5 months in on my beard, and it is rather full and can get tangles in it. Every time I try to comb it out, the comb can barely get through it. I have to pull the comb out and try again. It ends up pulling out hairs and is painful. This is with the wide-bristle part of a dedicated beard comb. I rarely comb it anymore because of this. Please help! Should I switch to a brush, or change my routine(shower, towel dry my beard, apply beard oil, then comb it)? I'm using the comb dry, should I be wetting it down or applying oil to it or something? Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

      +c10farmtruck Hey man, thanks for writing! There are a few things I'd suggest here: First, definitely try combing your beard when you're fresh out of the shower and your beard is still wet. It'll be much easier to get the comb through. I would also recommend getting yourself a good boar's hair brush like this one that we carry: www.beardbrand.com/products/boars-hair-brush
      Outside of that, just keep it clean and oiled and you should be good to go! Hope that helps, and beard on!

    Don't use the boars brush as much as you can in a day. you'll lose a ton of hair. two times a day is more than enough

  • @Cogsy666
    @Cogsy666 9 лет назад

    I have the brush and the comb. is there a limit you can comb/brush it a day I heard you should brush it no more then twice a day and comb it no more then 3 times a day.

      +Cogsy666 People who put limits on how many times every guy should brush his beard have no business giving advice. Everyone is different and a boar bristle brush is very gentle on your beard. Combs can cause problems from snagging if the tooth isn't wide enough. Brushing is encouraged if you are trying to train your beard. I brush mine several times a day and haven't lost any hair.

    my beard is really curly and I can only comb it once I get out of the shower. it's a wide tooth saw cut comb. what should I do about this because throughout the day my beard gets a little crazy and the comb hurts to use.

      Try some beard softener if you haven't already. Also, try to brush lightly and then comb.

    Is there any alternative for beard combs? :(
    I cant buy online right now and most of the beard combs are sold this way so i hope maybe theres a comb for hair that doesnt frizz or damage the beard...

      +djpab97 You may want to look into bristle brushes, you can find them in a lot of stores that sell beauty supplies.

    So my beard is pretty long now and it starts to get tangles, the thing is my beard is pretty curly and i can only
    comb it when i wash it and after i apply beard oil, but even then it still cuts and pulls out some hair and i think it damages it slowly, i might try a brush but my question is, do you just leave tangles alone or do you keep trying to untangle them even if you do end up cutting about 5 strands of beard hair every time?

    • @Beardbrand
      @Beardbrand  9 лет назад

      +sage merlin Have you tried combing right out of the shower while your beard is still wet? A gentle combing and brushing before it dries might make it easier to work through the tangles.

    Hello Beardbrand!
    Can you really learn your hair to grow in a specific direction?
    I've heard a lot of differen opinions about this..

    • @Beardbrand
      @Beardbrand  8 лет назад

      Well in a way, yes. It's really a matter of training your hair to naturally sit or lay in a certain direction or way. You do this through brushing, using a hair dryer, and consciously moving the hair in your desired direction repeatedly over time. However all that being said, you can't actually change the genetic way your hair grows from your scalp or beard - you can only work to train it after it starts to grow!
