    For me, this is Pink Floyd at their absolute prime. Yeah they still hadn’t released their four most famous albums, but they are sooooo in sync here. Was there a better psychedelic band ever? They did metal on a few songs in 1969 before/around the same time as Black Sabbath. The funk groove on this? The experimentation? There’s a reason some of us think they were the greatest band of all times. Why their music still sounds so fresh 50 years later. I can never decide if they are just from a different time and space, if they’re otherwordly, or whatever, but it is timeless.

    • @swfcocs1
      @swfcocs1 Год назад +4

      Agreed, certainly as a group of musicians they are at their absolute peak here, as composers I would day they peaked a little later, during the Dark side/wish/animals era

      Alot of their sound was derived from ww2. Roger lost his father during the war and they all grew up during reconstruction. The uk took such a heavy toll from the German bombardment. Just like the original blues players in america and the connection to their experience from having slave parents

      I don't think Pink Floyd would have been anything without the genius of David Gilmour and Rick Wright! I know Waters wrote some words but since Gilmour had to help him with bass as well, clearly the musical genius is Gilmour and Wright!

      @@joseureste8257 well yes and no, here in the UK the German bombing was heavy but restricted to a few critical cities, London, Plymouth, Coventry, Sheffield wtc mostly steel towns or ports.The effect was mostly psychological on the general population, as well as the threat of invasion and the entry of so many fathers into the army, of whom 400,000 never came back

    Was in Pompeii over the summer the same day the archeological site hosted a concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pink Floyd recording and playing at the 2,000 year old amphitheater. Didn’t know it was going on and obviously couldn’t get tickets but could hear the music blasting through the streets just like they did when they first played there. Had to make the best of it. Posted up at a nearby cafe a block or two away. David Gilmour was a musical inspiration for many including myself. One of the greatest rock bands in history.

It's kind of a two-part song and Both of those songs will have unexpected delightful surprises! Also an interesting thing if you have the DVD Pink Floyd live at Pompeii interspersed throughout the movie/documentary are bits and pieces of Dark Side of the Moon that they were recording while they were filming this!

Another favourite of mine is Any Colour You Like, live at Brighton 1975, they have lots of versions of it, but this one is stripped back, Nick's drummimg is amazing.
