Phantom of the Opera, it was a straight steal by Andrew Lloyd Webber, not his first and not his last. Even on Phantom he stole another piece by Rick Wakeman of Yes.
The video is from there movie live in Pompeii. They are in Pompeii the funny thing is half the film that they shot from there was stolen so they to use filler shots, the only good thing is they had all the audio backed up separately. Listen to the album Echoes the song is a little different from that version.
Awesome reaction. This has always struck me as a Floyd song showing the transition from their earlier, 60's psychedelic sound, to their more modern, funky and sometimes r and b sound they perfected in Dark Side of the Moon. The bridge with the funky bass guitar, insane drumming and psychedelic guitar is what sells this for me - I can't name the number of bands I've listened to that fall-into a groove, and I've thought "wow, this band MUST'VE been influenced by Pink Floyd's Echoes". If you want to see an interesting tribute to this film, check out the video for Beastie Boy's "Gratitude." And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can?
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes

Cloudless every day you fall
Upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky

@@danielcobbins9050 I still remember one day my sophomore year in college putting on Echoes (Meddle version) up LOUD in a dark room with my eyes closed the whole time. I don't do drugs, but I was definitely tripping that day, just from the music and sounds.
I smoked so much weed in cars in random parking lots with my buddies back in high school to this song.
Also David Gilmour Echoes live in Gnask or live at Royal Hall ft. Richard W.
How can a group be this good..tight. Soul inspiring. Just pure feel. Jam. This is a masterpiece.
The crowd are the ghosts of Pompeii.
1:17 "where's the crowd?"
Me - "dead"
Why?
Because they're Pink Floyd!
The crowd got covered up with ashes two thousand years ago, give or take.I’d like to think that if any of them were still hanging around that they enjoyed the show though.
I found this song through a love of Phantom of the Opera due to the copyrights case filed by Floyd's Roger Walters against Andrew Lloyd Webber.. and fell in love with Floyd lol
I've watched the Live At Pompeii dvd so many times it's become a meditation for me whether I'm just listening in the background, or watching intently. The atmosphere is amazing.
I think you would really like Pink Floyd's "One of These Days"
The crowd are the souls of gladiators that died there.
That little melody you are hearing reminds you of the phantom of the opera. I’m not sure if it’s the exact same composition but it sounds like it.
This has to be my favorite Floyd song. It takes you on an entire journey.
When I ordered this on DVD, I was expecting a live concert with people too. I guess the attending crowd are the spirits of Pompeii.
Phantom of the Opera, it was a straight steal by Andrew Lloyd Webber, not his first and not his last. Even on Phantom he stole another piece by Rick Wakeman of Yes.
I requested this song on another of your recent videos lol If I had just subscribed sooner I could've watched this on my bday.
I’ve literally just spent my whole morning listening to your Pink Floyd reaction videos. You earned a sub my man!
The video is from there movie live in Pompeii. They are in Pompeii the funny thing is half the film that they shot from there was stolen so they to use filler shots, the only good thing is they had all the audio backed up separately. Listen to the album Echoes the song is a little different from that version.
"Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see
Is me..."
Coolest line in any song, ever.
But what about "Get on your bikes and ride!"
Thank you so much for being the only reaction channel on RUclips without an obnoxiously loud bass drenched intro.
Sick funk breakdown...this got me into Floyd when I was a teen
They owned a building in Italy, a driver dropped them off they are ACTUALLY very wise men.
If you want to see an interesting tribute to this film, check out the video for Beastie Boy's "Gratitude." I've read rumors that they purchased the Pink Floyd amp cabinets for that video, but I don't know if it's true. Doesn't matter, just goes to show how many bands and genres Floyd has influenced....Oh, and I've subscribed:)
This is a true masterpiece of music excellence!
I saw this in a movie theater circa 1977 when I was still in high school. Damn I'm old!
Hell,I had been OUT of High School 5 years when this movie came out and totally blew me away... Talk about OLD but then on second thought maybe let's not. hehe...Shit, where did the time go??. or maybe better yet where did all the good music go??
@@BlueGoat682 A local theater in my area used to play this movie at midnight. or it could have been "Tommy" or "The Song remains the Same" Etc... This was 40 years ago and things were different. The theater didn't care if you smoked weed or brought in beer, hell, you really didn't even need to fire it up, you'd get a contact high just sitting there.😋 Good Times!!
@@leddygee1896 For sure... kind of like the movie "Dazed and Confused" except in real life. Speaking of older movies, I was tripping on window pane acid the first time I saw "The Exorcist" way back in the early 70's.Talk about surreal! In the scene where her head turns all the way around and the audience was reacting to it we were sitting in the very back laughing. :-)
@@BlueGoat682 Touche on all of your brilliant observations!
Speaking of where did the time go, that is coincidentally the abbreviated title of my favorite song. If you are not familiar with it, it is a composition written and beautifully sung by the late Sandy Denny when she was a member of Fairport Convention. Led Zeppelin were huge fans and you know that you are a member of the elite group when they ask you to sing on their record. Sandy was the only non-group member to ever perform on a Zeppelin album and they even gave her her own symbol for singing on The Battle of Evermore. The definitive version of Who Knows Where The Time Goes is on Fairport Convention's Unhalfbricking album and certainly worth a listen.
Speaking
@@peted9804 I have heard of Fairport Convention but I am not familiar with any of their music but of course I'm familiar with The Battle of Evermore. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to check it out before too long! Oh, and btw I am now officially subscribed to this channel. :-)
Want to see something UNCANNY? Google Echoes and 2001. The old sync up there is amazing
Mason kills the drums at a spectacular view
When he loses a stick during one of these days and never missed a beat!
The first time I heard Echoes was at midnight in July in the dark with the windows open. So ethereal and haunting.
I think this goes beyond "rock" labelling, it is just amazing music
This used to be my go to song when I was having trouble falling asleep; it's so dreamy and just long enough to lull a person into slumber.
React too "A Saucerful of Secrets - Live at Pompeii"
Out of all the possible realities to live in, I'm glad I'm in the same one with Pink Floyd.
