    Re the x-ray truck procedures, x-ray exposure is known to increase cancer risk and it's a case of the less exposure you get over your lifetime, the better. That's why when you get a medical/dental x-ray the operator leaves the room or hides behind a shield, and why they got you out of the cab.
    That truck will be pumping out pretty high energy rays because it has to be able to see through an armoured truck body. It's operated by someone inside the truck (protected by shielding). I think what was going on with the traffic warden is that he would get in his van while the x-rays were present to reduce his exposure to practically zero, as it was maybe 15 metres away and the van body and windscreen provide a little bit of shielding. The operator in the truck would radio when it was safe to come out again. Where you were standing you probably got a tiny bit of exposure - not enough to worry about on a one-off basis but they wouldn't let you stand there every time it ran if it was your day job. If I was at the front of the queue behind the machine I would hang back at least 10 metres while the truck in front was being done.

    That was truly fascinating. Always something new to learn and more than anything, it gave me an insight into the world of international lorry drivers. Thanks to your very clear explanation, I could appreciate the concern of carrying goods of which you have no idea what they are. You really are very good at explaining and you never preach.

      😂🤣😂 Yes I’m sure 😂🤣 There was a big sign too 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ We don’t do these routes for fun! Even the French don’t divert traffic for no reason! As I mentioned, there was works on the bridge meaning all port traffic was diverted.

    Great vlog as usual. Not sure of the wisdom on some of the diversions we encounter ( I drive nights in the uk so have "enjoyed" the highways england mystery tours ) . My view on cycle paths is that there should be a permanent separation not just a painted line wherever possible to protect all parties . ( e.g the plastic bollards are better but often squashed near roundabouts where the trailor has cut in .)

    another good video :) ...i live in Le Havre :), , going at ferry port , it is not easy with this road with a big truck , a lot of narrow streets in this area ...you'd better ...strait on by boulevard de Leningrad , Bd Winston Churchil ...quai Colbert ...and you turn left for Avenue Vauban ...you arrive direct in Le Havre ferry ( britanny ferries ) 😉

    I’m a recent subscriber and I was wondering how you cope with the language barrier when you go to different countries?

    • @GBtrucklady
      @GBtrucklady Год назад +2

      Great question. English / American English is one of the most common spoken languages in the world, which helps. Mostly people are good natured, understand you are foreign and will try to use a simplified version of their language, in the same way as you would speak to a toddler. I always try to at least greet people in their language, this is made easier by listening to one of the translator apps. I also speak a little Spanish and a little French.
      If I am looking for an address, I aways write it on a bit of paper, never show the delivery information, they will then know what you have on board. If all else fails, ask the sender to contact the customer and ask for instructions, this way you know you are not being led to the wrong place.
      And of course, you have an “international finger”, that can point at a map, at a menu and a beer. 😂😁😁
      Thanks for your support. 👍🏻

    • @GBtrucklady

      So you check that every box has exactly what it says on the CMR? Every box of oranges, every net of onions, every box of shoes? What happens when it’s a can of beans, do you open every can to makes sure it has beans in it? I’m guessing not. We know what it says on the CMR, we know what it says on the custom paperwork but no one can check everything, all loads contain a certain amount of trust. I do prefer to watch the load go on the trailer though.
