    I'm a software engineer and considering the limitations os the PS2 in 2005, SOTC is marvellous for what it has delivered. All these considerations for removing the colossi are reasonable and i agree to a certain point. But for Roc, i'd propose to change the idea a bit and level the arena, making it wider and simpler, making crossing it a challenge while Roc would be chasing you until you start climbing the tower. The tower would be used to develop the player's attack.

      Another major issue is they just didn’t have enough time to go back and fix the issues but if they did I’m sure they would have figured out how to fix it.

      Nobody talks about this (or at least none of the major SotC related content creators) because the interview was leaked and was made only for certain people in the community, since it was known that a lot of people on a private discord were essentially data hoarding SotC info. Its pretty much why Nomad and other people never comment on it

      I was on 4chan when this leaked there. Nomad for example was on the group that made the interview, and It wasnt supposed to leak.

      ​@@ricosuave9102As someone who was part of the in-group actually receiving this information first hand...it's a lot more complicated than data-hording. There was primarily a genuine concern about breaking the Team Ico developer's Non-Disclosure-Agreement with sony.

      No one’s talking about it because this information being leaked potentially locked us out of beta builds and models for cut colossi
      The developer only shared on the condition none of this information would be divulged to the public, and one member of the community leaked it purely out of spite and said developer has cut all communication
      The reason said developer wanted this to stay hush hush is because so much of the development is wrapped up in personal stories, and it would be very easy to figure out exactly who he was and get him blacklisted from many game studios for this, as the rest of the team has always stayed quiet out of respect for Ueda.
      This video is bringing more attention to this and potentially ridding us of another developer contact right now out of fear of their own divulging getting this kind of attention. It would be best for everyone if everybody just stayed quiet about this and wait for team stage 0 to continue their work.

    At this point all we can do is hope that Bluepoint Games or even genDESIGN have something special planned for the 20th anniversary of this game in 2025. No doubt if the game was to get a 4th release it would include an expansion of the map, some or maybe even all the missing colossi, & full access to climb up all the way to the very top of the main temple. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Nice info on the cut colossi.

      There are fans working on a remake that will include all 16 colossi + the missing ones. Sirius and Phoenix's fights are finished already and their separated demos can be downloaded. The project is called "Tribute Shadow of the Colossus"

      @@athos9293 Yeah I know about "Beyond The Forbidden Lands" & hopefully I'll be able to play that. I'll probably have to purchase a new computer though since my current computer doesn't have a disc drive that works. While I am excited for that game I would still like something similar for PS4/PS5 & 2025 would be the perfect time to give us one final definitive version of the game for consoles.

    Man, I remember being there the minute this thread dropped on /v/. I didn't even believe it at first, I thought it was just things from the SOTC fangames. I still have everything from the Mega saved. Thank you for making a video on this. I don't think the SOTC community will ever get any information quite like this again.

    This video gives a big question that needs to be asked. The roc fight was cut late into the bosses development. It was pretty much done by the time the boss was cut. And this dev claims that they liked to pull it up from time to time to just admire it even after it was cut. This implies that team ico's archives (or whoever owns the company) still has the files and they still work in the early versions. It's unlikely, but I wonder if these files will ever be leaked, or (even more unlikely but would be really cool) if the company themselves released video footage of the fight in like a bts interview or something.

      I’m definitely sure there are prototype files that are still out there and builds on the game designer’s database but to answer your question, the major reason why it was cut was also because they didn’t have the time to put everything in the game the major reason roc was cut was due to collision, so that’s why they cut it entirely, they just needed more time to figure out their issues, if they did I’m sure it could have worked, like everything else.

      The major problem was mainly due to deadlines it’s like every other video game ever made every game has some many ideas cut due to limitations and deadlines had this never be a thing we could always have everything.

    I wonder what have it been like to have evis the orginal final boss in the game. From the art it looked like the tallest colossi yet, probably taller than malus. Its design was also very cool. After watching this, it feels like there was a whole other game that was cut.

      Unless you're talking about Buddha which was eventually renamed to Evis (Completely different colossus). The design of Buddha eventually turned into Malus.

      @shadowwarrior6933 I can tell you everything I know so far, Evis would have been the true final boss it would have been colossi 26 assuming there was just 26 it would have been found in the top right area somewhere in the mountains, my guess is it’s suppose to be like a giant yeti like Minotaur it’s possible it could have been a demon goat with horns, I read earlier Dormin was based on Evis seeing how every colossi was somehow connected to it Dormin but anyways I think it was the tallest because it was friggin huge in its sketch. I’m still digging around to see what I find I’ll let you know

    I always dream and pray that Fumito Ueda decides to make a "revamped" Shadow of the Colossus one day, using today's technology to make the Shadow of the Colossus with 48 colossi he wanted to make back then...

    6:29 I'm glad that you don't fight smaller enemies, it would of been a drain on health or something would chase you into the battle against a Colossus, like Dirge or Cenobia for example.
    And don't get me started on Wander's singular sword slash.

      Based on a source i found and subsequently may have lost. Evis, the colossus at I1 was designed after the image of a Satyr. It had curved back horns and the lower half of its body resembled a goat. it was designed to be the tallest colossus. As we all know it was scrapped. However its model was used as a base for dormin and other colossi parts were added onto it. You can see evis in the ending of the e3 demo

      Also devil had a different strategy at one point. It had armor on its back. You would hide in a shrine that was attatched to a surrounding mountain and get it to attack. Breaking its armor the hide and seek idea was scrapped because according to ochia the devil was to nimble to be shot down. However the hide and seek strategy was used for the 4th colossus and the armor on its back strategy was used for the 14th

    The closest to having one of the cut colossi was roc. And roc, imo has the coolest design.

      That image from the book of it sitting over the giant stone tower as Wander rides the edge of the crater behind it, is still one of the coolest looking things I've ever seen.

    The concept of fighting two colossi at once sounds super cool! I doubt many of the final 16 would’ve made good candidates though, I think you’d need to design two colossi with that intent in mind or it wouldn’t be much fun. Maybe dirge and someone else could’ve worked though, get dirge to chase you then blind him and force a collision with the other colossus. Or even if they’d gotten the monkey to work, the collision with a wall could knock it down. Oh, what could have been!

      Cause it was a remaster of the original game (same for the remake). That in itself means money, developing new things on top of the original game and modifying them would translate into higher development times and would exceed the budget.

      This is like any other game that gets remastered remade they just go based on what their final version was because it would be a completely different game that most people never played then.

    I am sceptical as to whether this came from a dev, as some of the terminology used sounds like it was written by fans alike, although it could be in translation that it sounds familiar. Most of this information we already knew, the rest could be made up and/or forgotten in the mind of the dev so-to-speak. This video has spawned more interest however and gets people like myself talking about SotC once again. An elaborate ploy perhaps? Nevertheless, this game's lore never ceases to interest and entertain. My favourite colossi are Roc, and Devil - 2 that were more in their final stages of development compared to others. According to this interview, it is such a shame Devil was cut for being too small, if it is true. However, Celosia and Cenobia are also very small yet in the game obviously. I've said this before but I'll say it again, if we had a version of the game with all the cut colossus that we know about, then we would have original versions of the same/recycled colossus that exist today. The problem with this is that the discarded colossus are so renowned by fans that they would need to be included but the game just wouldn't make sense from a commercial standpoint. With that being said, a remake or remaster including the cut colossus would be a love letter to fans alike, which sadly I very much doubt would ever happen, for the reasons I mentioned. A fan-made game however would be a strong possibility. The problem with the original SotC and as mysterious as it will always be and its cut material is that too much was given away and too quickly, before the game's release even - This is the game's biggest strengths and weaknesses in terms of its forever mysterious and haunting lore that we all like to love and hate about it (what we got, what we didn't get, and what we all wanted).

    Bruhh even if they remade this game for the 3rd time now an added the missing extra colossi I'd not only pay 35$ for it I'd platinum it... I've played and beat this game on all modes on ps2 ps3 ps4 and ps5.... it's such an amazing game I'd love to see team ico release an exact blueprint of this game with new colossi, or even kaiju he'll I'd love to battle every godzilla villian in this stylization, would be sick and same thing might work for the most part colossi ignore you for the most part unless you invade thier territory or attack them which is exactly what you do.. most godzilla villans would ignore humans because they are so massive that even if they know a human is there it's not worth thier time or like I said a game with new collosi/kaiju.. or remake it again and add all the missing creatures at one point I think they were over 40 and we only ended up with what 15 or 16?... uhh ohh forgot time for another play through cancer camera angles here I come btw my only complaint for the entire series.....

    Maybe the Griffin could've had a playful demeanure.
    It would poke its beak around in the dirt, the rocks & maybe trees, bc it's slightly bored, but not too bored that it would wanna run around constantly.
    It slowly walks up to the player & would try to knock them around with their head & maybe legs or maybe it should just ignore the player until they get on Agro.
    But when you get on Agro it starts running around you in circles, but not very fast. If you follow the Griffin, it'll start running in a relative straight line in the direction of its longest possible track. In its excitement it would speed up whenever Agro almost catches up until it reaches its top speed(ofcourse it'll go topspeed, if Agro performs a running start), but it would slow down, if Agro is too far away or go back to circling Agro, if you stand still/walk slowly. You'd need to run parallel to the Griffin to jump over, so the Griffin shouldn't make sharp turns & perhaps should have a readable pattern on when it makes a slight turn. Like, if Agro is extremely close parallel to it(like almost touching), Griffin would swirf off to the opposite side of Agro so you need to keep a *little* bit of distance. Griffin would make a U-turn, when it gets too close to its border so you don't have too much time, but it should always make a turn into the direction with the longest possible track. It would try to shake off the player & eventuelly would do a big shake that'll always throw off the player, unless the player manages to jump at the right moment & then gets back to holding onto the usual spot.

      The issue is every video game is suppose to be longer but sadly the problem is due to software hardware limits and mostly deadlines, had the devs could have made it work I’m sure it would have ended up with everything they wanted and needed by the end of the project.

    Of all this years i just cant understand how the hell they didnt finished the game after release, could be a expansion or a remake version for ps3 or ps4 instead the did a remake without all the content and i know that was another studio but was the opportunity to finish the game!

    Aren’t you hurting Team Stage 0’s efforts by bringing more attention to this? If by some chance they’re able to get in contact with another dev, minimizing the publicity of their former contact’s contribution would, even if a very very very small amount, increase the likelihood of them willing to divulge.
    I’m not sure if you got permission from the team, nor if they’re okay with people reporting on it, I won’t be watching this video to try and minimize its reach, but I sincerely hope this was born either out of ignorance of its ramifications or in accordance to Team Stage 0’s wishes.
