- How to fix neck dive for free. All you need is a screw driver. The guitar being used here is a 1998 Jackson Kelly KE-3 Reverse.
**Make sure to loosen the strings to take the tension off the neck. Do this first! Then remove the bolt, put the strap button on and re-insert. Good to go!** Видеоклипы
Thanks. Just bought Jackson Kelly myself and when I realised I have a neck dive I started searching how to fix it. You're my saviour, that was very helpful!
My pleasure!
Hot dam, finally i can play my RR standing! Thank you sir!
You're very welcome!
To be safe, use a longer bolt to compensate for the thickness of the strap button.
I did the same thing, I just used a dimarzio click lock strap on my king v. Works great
Right on man, best fix there is
Free is always good!
HOLY SHIT!!
I have a Charvel Star that I get wrist pain from playing live and this just fixed the dive IMMEDIATELY!!
Thank you SO much!
My pleasure!
I just got my very 1st guitar, a Rhoads JS32 and I was like, "yo this neck dive can't be right" lol, so I smoked a big fat joint and here I am, thanks dude, going to mod my strap location.
It works PERFECTLY on my Jackson RR as well, thanks so much!
Good to know, thanks for commenting!
Amazing fix bro! Just realized today how bad the neck dive was on my rr3 and came across your vid. Had to drill out the button for the neck screw to fit but works awesome. Maybe my hand won't get so numb from having to support the weight of this guitar. Thanks for posting this fix!
My pleasure. Glad I could help!
Holy shit just tried on my BC Rich that's been driving me insane with its neck dive and 100% works! Great video man.
Thanks! Glad it worked out for you!
Thanks dude, you save my guitar life and mental health
My pleasure. Glad to help!
Had to use a chainsaw file for the metal strap button due to the different size screws between the neck screw and strap screw. Thanks a lot. Much appreciated
My pleasure. I'm glad it worked out for you.
PERFECT!!!
Thanks a lot dude!!!!
You're very welcome!
I also moved the other button, which was inside the V, absolutely stupid, to the back of the guitar using one of the screw holes for the backplate, the one to access the springs. Feels, looks, and works awesome! No neck dive AT ALL. Moved both buttons to existing holes. No drilling into the guitar.
That's awesome!
Cool! been kinda worried about building an explorer style bass bc of the neckdive, but i might try it out anyway with this new info :)
I hope it works! I've never used this trick on bass, but I have done it successfully with my Jackson Kelly, Rhoads and Kelly Star. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
Hell yeah dude. Thank you!
My pleasure!
Thanks man, i just made this mod, i'm a little concerned if this will affect my Kelly JS35 in the future but i am happy that the neck dive has been fixed
Thanks for commenting. Glad it helped. I did a second video with strap locks. That's a better long term solution. But it does require drilling.
Lots of videos on RUclips about this, but yours got straight to the point... did this to my RR last night... *boom*, mind blown!... lol (Did have to get a longer screw though.)
Thanks for the compliment. I like to make things quick and easy. Glad it worked out for ya!
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 Welcome... bought some suction cups to test different locations on my EX, before drilling holes in it.
@@tahwnikcufos what a great idea!
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 Yeah, I'm not big on leaving "the scars of good intentions gone wrong" on my gear 🤣
@@tahwnikcufos me neither. Unfortunately, a few of mine do have such scars.
Thank you very much!
My pleasure.
Gracias crack
Thank you so much dude
My pleasure. Glad I could help!
Thx for the tutorial bro
My pleasure!
Did you use a different longer screw or did you just use the existing screw? I just did this on my Kelly with the existing screw, but wondering if I should find a longer one. What did you do?
Thanks for posting this. Really made playing this guitar so much more fun!
Thanks for commenting. I used the existing screw. This trick also works for King Vs and Rhoads style guitars with bolt on necks. Glad I could help.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 I actually found that the existing ones didn't do the job as I had some thicker strap buttons, and what did the trick was the screws that are used to hold the spring plate in the Floyd cavity. They were just perfect.
@@tomislavkrajina1047 great solution. Thanks for sharing it!
What bolt did you get? I can’t find one that’s the right size with the washer to hook the strap around
I can't find a strap button with a big enough screw hole for a neck screw in my Jackson JS32 Rhoads.
See if you can find a screw that is narrow enough to fit through the strap button and is roughly the same length as the neck-to-body screw. Then use a toothpick to shim the hole and give the screw something extra to grip on to.
I did find out that Gibson strap buttons have a larger diameter screw hole.
FUCKING LEGEND dude, I never really could play standing up thanks to this issue with my Jackson JS32 flying V.
Glad I could help!
Lol, I just bought the same guitar and I'm thinking to do this trick as well. One question though, what kind of screw did you use to put the strap button on the neck plate?
@@victorstriga great question. I used one of the screws that was holding the neck to the body.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 thanks for the quick reply Mike, I'll check if it works on my model as well :)
@@victorstriga I've used the same screw that is used for the neck joint.
Hi there! Few days ago I received a JS32 Rhoads one. The neck dive unfortunately was exaggerated, it fell down way further from your demo. I decided to send it back. I was aware I could move the strap button as you are showing but I am not sure how long the wood could resist with the strap button moved there. Did you notice some wear of the wood overtime using the guitar with this mod? Thank you, cheers!
Great question. I have had no issues whatsoever.
Entendi tudo
Hi Mike, excellent tip!! I have a question: does the new strap button location (on the neck screw) makes the strap interfere with playing at the higher frets? I play on a Megadeth cover band and use the 24th fret a lot, wouldn't want my hand bumping on the strap, lol.
Good question. I picked up my Kelly to check. The strap wouldn't interfere, but I do find it difficult to get up to the 24th fret mostly because it's a bolt on neck and the heel is in the way - but not the strap. I hope that makes sense.
Yeah, its quite a hassle, but after doing 70+ gigs with it, i got used to the blocky heel 😅
Going to do the strap button - bolt on relocation on my next full setup at my guitar tech. Thank you again for the help!
@@Niamreg888 I think you'll like that better. Let us know how it goes!
are you using the strap button screw or the bolt on plate screw?, we should use the longer one for the button to fit & attach firmly into the neck joint right?
I used the neck plate screw.
Hi
I really appreciate it,
My concern the phillips screw won't Strip?
Thank you
I haven't had any issues!
Hi
Okay I really appreciate!
Again Thank you!
@@Apache-pp9ok thanks for watching!
Did you move the strap button, or did you let the guitar to a guitar tech?
I did it myself. You can do it too! Just loosen the strings first to take the tension off the neck. You should be fine, but if you're nervous about it, take it to a tech.
Anyone tried this on a warrior? Im getting my js32 warrior in a couple weeks and may need to do this.
Let us know how it goes! I love the Warrior shape, but I've always hated where the left hand strap button is located. It makes the guitar kind of awkward to play standing up.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076If i remember when I get it, I will. So keen to get it.
Does it affect the guitar's tilt? Maybe making the neck tilt forward a bit? Or maybe making the guitar facing downwards towards the floor a bit? Thanks!
Excellent question! Yes, there is some slight tilt forward. However, it's such a huge improvement over the neck dive I experienced prior to making this modification that I would still recommend doing this. Plus it's free and requires no permanent alterations. Give it a try!
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 so it makes the head & neck tilt forward a bit, and thus making the body tilt closer to our hip?
@@jawara6263 yes, very slightly.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 i see, do we need to remove or loosen the stringgs first before unscrewing the neck bolt?
@@jawara6263 yes, I would recommend doing that.
Does this have a chance of doing some sort of damage to the neck/guitar? Neck dive is driving me crazy...
No, not at all.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 It doesn't change the sound or make noise?
@@nyogsothepwar1767 no, not at all.
I wonder if this guys herd of Jackson guitars I think he would like really them 🤔😀😀😀🥳🥳🥳
Or.. the stupid guitar maker could have checked it by himself while designing the guitar and could have made it better. Thank you for your video, I have been struggling with this problem for many years.
Ya know, the older Kelly's were like this. No neck plate. Four bolts through the body into the neck. Strap button in the middle of the neck/body pocket. Don't know why they changed design. Probably to save a buck somehow.
The bolt on my kelly is too big to fit through the strap button, how is this supposed to work?
Hey man, yeah, I had to dig around in my spare parts to find a button with a wide enough opening. I would suggest bringing the bolt to a local guitar shop, talk to the tech there and see if he has a strap button that will work for you. Best of luck!
dude. You are NOT supposed to use the bolt. You are supposed to get a longer bolt then put the strap button through it. Take your guitar to a tech and tell him you want to relocate the strap button, then show him this video. You aren't smart enough to figure it out.
I actually did some research and found out that it totally works. Used a washer to hold the strap in place and has had great tuning stability ever since. 👍
Can you put a strap lock with this way? Can you make a video about this?
Stay tuned. It's my next video.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 Thank you!!

My explorer is a set-neck 🫠
The screw for my strap button is skinnier than the screw behind the neck of my guitar and the screw behind the neck of my guitar is too sick and won't fit into the strap button I thought about drilling the strap button but I don't have a drill so I'm going to try to order a strap lock or new strap button online
Here's a trick. Use the skinnier screw from the strap button. Put a toothpick in the hole of the body to add more grip for the screw. That should work. I hope that makes sense.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 thanks so much I'll give that a shot! Rock on bro!
