I think the reason they ship with cheap springs and not noiseless is that while they’re nice-to-haves, Jackson builds a LOT of guitars with Floyd roses, and adding $18 springs to all of them above $1200 probably adds up. It’s like when you want to upgrade the knobs on your kitchen cabinets, and they’re only $5/piece, but then realize you have 17 left/right cabinets, so you need 34 knobs. As the saying goes, many a mickle makes a muckle.
I see what you're saying, but look at it this way. The retail of the guitar is $1600, those springs probably cost them less than $9 a set. I don't think you are cutting into the bottom line too deeply to put a ready to play guitar into your customers hands. And if it is, rework the budget on the guitar.

@@TaylorDanley I think to some extent you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t with regards to giving opinions on the internet. Most of us seem to agree so I guess keep giving them.
I had the same issue with the pickups when I first got this guitar. You need to lower them a decent bit and it cleans up and stops feeding back. Those Loomis pickups are super hot!
@@Cycopace it took a bit of trial and error but I eventually found the spot that worked with my rig. If you play through a large amp definitely make sure you do it when it's cranked up to gigging/rehearsal volume.
That is a solution, but if you lower them too much you lose the bite you get from active pickups which is sort of the appeal for me. I messed with them so much in my Agile when I was using it regularly live, and ultimately I just landed on using something else lol.
Got one, it’s absolutely awesome! I replaced the neck strap button with a flush mount one, it sits perfectly now. I admit, I swapped out the FR block with a fat brass one and changed the springs as well. ;-)
Great demo! I may have missed it if you mentioned it, but is there neck dive on this beauty?? I can fix the spring issue, but I won't compromise on neck dive
I had to shove some foam to make it quiet, even with red Floyd coated springs. My bridge is a Schaller bridge, I think I might have to upgrade to a better spring claw.
A couple of my guitars have the foam wedged in between the springs and backplate, you really notice that ringing when you’re playing with headphones on. I must order some of those dampeners when I order my next Solar lol
I always pronounce it as base wood. No idea if I am correct. But I must say. People typically look down on bass wood. Not saying its my favorite. Alder and Swamp Ash, are my favorite. BUT, I have a cheap Schecter made of bass wood. And it sounds just fine. And if Jeff is using it, it can't be THAT bad!
Maybe dumb question, but why on earth would you put foam behind the locking nut? The locking nut already blocks the behind the nut resonance from transferring to the strings.
I get where you're coming from and I completely agree that the springs shouldnt be an issue for that amount of money but I dont expect jackson or any other big name guitar company to change this any time soon unless floyd rose sells them 1500 and ofr kits WITH noiseless springs. I think getting their attention to change is always a good thing ( wmi made jacksons and above deserve ss frets as well) but I wouldnt hold my breath. Sick guitar though Id love to try it out!
I kinda have that spring noise with my soloist. I use soft pencils grips and put them on all my springs. 150 pcs for like 15 bucks. Throw one behind your strings at the neck. Boom. .10 cent fretwrap.
I've been using black outs forever. Can honestly say, I have NEVER had that issue. Interesting. I don't get to much feed back from active pickups in general. Its my Seymour Duncan Nazgul passive, that I have that issue with.
Judging by how far the stock springs are stretched, they put really light gauge ones. Have been using non-noiseless heavy springs for ages just for the sake of stability and it's never been an issue for me.
Hi. The springs are making noise because the pickups are so hot. The pickups are picking up the springs becasue they are so hot.. You can fix the springs, but the better fix would be to get better pickups.. That's the big problem. That is just too much and I like hot pickups.. Dimarzio Super distortions, Super 3 is the fav of mine, but it wouldn't do that feedback stuff.. Also, I don't know if the 1500 is a good trem. I thought the guitars in that price range use the 1000 floyd made in Korea but with the same exact parts as the German made floyds.. Too bad it doesn't come with just a tune o matic bridge.. Great looking guitar thought and it's cool that it has a low action and such a good setup.. That means the frets are leveled good, and neck is straight, etc.. Thanks for the video man.. Tim
I love the Kelly shape since the late 90‘s. These pickups should be thrown out because with all the noise they are so useless. I wish there could be an MJ soloist of the Kelly in high gloss black like the SL2, but with EMGs. That would be a perfect Jackson for me.
Yeah the floyd spring thing is an easy fix and really puzzling why they decided that they couldn't add the noiseless springs to this guitar. At $1500+, penny pinching like this is absurd but even more inexcusable is them thinking that the Floyd 1500 is ok. It's not. I had a 1500 in my Schecter SVSS exotic and it wasn't that great and the Floyd 1000 my Charvel had was also junk. I put a Gotoh 1996T on both of those and it's so much better but at this price point, not having an OFR is a huge miss. It's not just Jackson though, ESP are putting the FR1000 on their $2000 E-II Japan guitars and high end Korean models too.
Not a fan of the Kelly shape but I dig both the Warrior and Rhoads, I find the body shapes work well seated and standing; especially the Warrior that allows both traditional horizontal, and classical angled positions...Rhoads is a bit more challenging in horizontal. Cheers!
idk if $1600 is worth it but everything else around that level is that price range these days. The Schecter KMs were like $999 at the time and at the time was already fully loaded imports, same with LTD sigs being $1200 or so. Now those same guitars are like $1600. Even USA guitars that were like $3200 or so for a PRS 10 Top and similar are approaching the $5k mark
If I'm replacing the pickups, the tremolo (i haven't had much luck with the 1000 series Floyds in the past) and need to buy a case that's pretty annoying. Probably a good £1000 on top of the £1300 it costs here in the UK.
I was going to buy one of these from @Andertons yesterday. It was a thing of beauty but it has clearly been played in store by some mr acid sweat hands and the paint was all worn off the top and bottom of the bridge humbucker. How nasty do your hands have to be to destroy the finish on every guitar you touch? 😂 I’ll wait until they get more stock in.
With Indonesian guitars costing $700, it's not shocking for a Korean guitar to be $1600, especially with name-brand pickups and an artist endorsement. How was the build quality and fretwork? That's what takes labor, which is the most expensive part of building a guitar.
You're lucky to get an Indonesia guitars for that much. Jackson would sell their crackled Chinese rhoads for 1300. Most of the indo models I see would cost around 800-1200
I remember when Jackson guitars weren't trash in the pre-Fender era, and I also remember when USA Select Custom (mass produced customs of course) Select Kelly's were $2,500. Man I'm so tired of these massive corporations buying out the good companies and turning them into trash. I just bought a Mesa Oversized 412 Standard from Sweetwater and the contact inside the 8 Ohm 1/4" input is simply not there. For anyone who hasn't read the user manual or has a electronics background; not having a contact with your conductor to complete your circuit just creates an open circuit with infinite impedance which will cause an overcurrent in your amps circuit SERIOUSLY DAMAGING it. I bet that wouldn't have happened prior to Gibson's trashy @$$ buying Mesa out. We can't win @Taylor Danley... we just can't win. But it's channels like your's we depend on to demonstrate just how 💩 or 💎 these overpriced mass produced wastes of trees truly are or aren't. Case in point, and you're (Taylor) obviously well aware, you can buy a top tier Solar for $1,200-$1,500, and while it isn't a Mike Shannon hand made pre-Fender era Jackson, they absolute SMASH the trash I'm seeing come out of companies like Jackson nowadays. Sorry for the long response dude, but I loved Jackson guitars so much I named my son Jackson. Then they sold out and ruined the greatest guitars to ever exist on the planet when they allowed Fender to wipe their @$$ with the quality of the brand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello, I think Jackson has raised the prices a lot. The Brandon Ellis signature is 1250 euros and comes with a Floyd Rose 1000 and obviously with only one pickup, he thinks they could be sold a little cheaper. And they are not made in the USA or Japan....
You're also comparing Chinese made guitar like the Brandon Ellis signature to something that's made in Korea like Jeff Loomis. Then you have Jeff Loomis having 2 pickups (both being more expensive than his passive pickups), having luminlay side dots, and 1500 series being more expensive. Then his model has binding as well as it being sand blasted ash top which requires more work compared to Brandon's guitar. I blame fender for raising the prices on jackson, charvel, evh, etc.
I always played with not much gain (my vht is brutal even with not much gain so i prefer it like that) and my king V was making the same noise before i fixed it.
Not sure how many guitars these days are shipped with noiseless springs. High end Ibanez and Music Man guitars costing almost $4K and don't come with noiseless springs.
Companies always cut corners. Otherwise that guitar is awesome. I know it’s maybe not the biggest deal but I hate seeing expensive guitars not including OFR’s and having lower end trems. I haven’t used this bridge so maybe it’s really good.
Something else that put me off paying full price for this guitar is that the black paint on the pickups rubs off after not long at all, leaving you with half black half chrome pickups.
You got it right. It's bass wood just like the fish. Anyone that calls it base wood is obviously a bass player and you should stop being friends with them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. 😆
I think 1000 series Floyds, are pretty damn close to original in quality. If original is a 10, I give them a solid 8 or 9. While licensed, or special or whatever. Is like a 3 or 4.

I know people want definitive answers a lot of the time, but all I can give is my personal experience so I try to make that clear. I want people to enjoy what inspires them, not necessarily agree with me if that makes sense.
@@TaylorDanley I think to some extent you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t with regards to giving opinions on the internet. Most of us seem to agree so I guess keep giving them.
So stoked on this one! I had a Kelly back in the day but sold it due to neck dive! Played great however.
Yeah that guitar with Keith Merrow signature fishmans would be nice . Or even some medium output passive pickups.
I had the same issue with the pickups when I first got this guitar. You need to lower them a decent bit and it cleans up and stops feeding back. Those Loomis pickups are super hot!
I have the same issue and it's very annoying. I will try to decent them to. Thanks for the tip.
Same. I had to lower it so much, that it was flushed with cover. Otherwise it was clipping inside pickup circuit xD
@@Cycopace it took a bit of trial and error but I eventually found the spot that worked with my rig. If you play through a large amp definitely make sure you do it when it's cranked up to gigging/rehearsal volume.
@@wareloski2137 lol yeah, they are SUPER loud! 😂
That is a solution, but if you lower them too much you lose the bite you get from active pickups which is sort of the appeal for me. I messed with them so much in my Agile when I was using it regularly live, and ultimately I just landed on using something else lol.
I got a sl7 and man between this and sn1007 ht just black swamp ash tops with the grain 🔥🔥🔥only gripe is no locking tuners.
Got one, it’s absolutely awesome! I replaced the neck strap button with a flush mount one, it sits perfectly now. I admit, I swapped out the FR block with a fat brass one and changed the springs as well. ;-)
Hey man, awesome vid. Question: do you find the Sureclaw sounds different then regular claws?
Great demo! I may have missed it if you mentioned it, but is there neck dive on this beauty?? I can fix the spring issue, but I won't compromise on neck dive
No, the body is heavy! I've owned this guitar for about a year and I've never experienced neck dive
I had to shove some foam to make it quiet, even with red Floyd coated springs. My bridge is a Schaller bridge, I think I might have to upgrade to a better spring claw.
Had this guitar for a while now love it but I need to change the pick ups even with noise dampening add ons still way to hot
I have noticed G and B will really resonate with the springs if they are noisy.
It definitely played into it feeding back more as well. 🤷♂️
I love thd Kelly/explorer body style. Id love to hear it in E standard.
A couple of my guitars have the foam wedged in between the springs and backplate, you really notice that ringing when you’re playing with headphones on. I must order some of those dampeners when I order my next Solar lol
Highly recommend. They work well! Wish you could order them in bulk from Amazon or something!
After upgrading your guitar, does the fr stay in tune after using it? I just want to see if it worth to upgrade!
Maybe dumb question, but why on earth would you put foam behind the locking nut? The locking nut already blocks the behind the nut resonance from transferring to the strings.
Dude i feel like you are the american Ola Englund which is very sick!! Lol keep up with the sick content! I enjoy watching your uploads❤
thanks so much, that means a lot. I met him recently, lovely gentleman! 🥳
what's the name of the song he plays at 4:30?
I get where you're coming from and I completely agree that the springs shouldnt be an issue for that amount of money but I dont expect jackson or any other big name guitar company to change this any time soon unless floyd rose sells them 1500 and ofr kits WITH noiseless springs. I think getting their attention to change is always a good thing ( wmi made jacksons and above deserve ss frets as well) but I wouldnt hold my breath. Sick guitar though Id love to try it out!
Are there any guitars in that price range that have noiseless springs? I don’t think I’ve seen it.
Are the pickups regular black outs?
Sweet looking guitar
Is there a cheaper version of this body finish?? The burnt embroidered wood look….but for not $1300
And a DAMN HARDSHELL CASE for the price as well!!
Love the guitar man! Is it just me or everytime i see a Jackson kelly i straight away think - Martin Friedman haha!
How do you feel about the volume knob being in the South Pole?
That would be a perfect Jackson for me.
base wood" that guitar is really beautiful. My question is how do I get a friend who is good enough to let ME borrow and play on tha?!?!
Cheers!
I'm a big fan of all of them. Warrior has grown on me a lot as of late.
LOVE this guitar
idk if $1600 is worth it but everything else around that level is that price range these days.
Probably a good £1000 on top of the £1300 it costs here in the UK.
even the higher end floyd springs make noise. foam is usually a win.
That's the cool thing about flat finishes, but not cool if it's not your sweat that broke it in lol.
I have had the same negative experience with SD Blackouts. Yes they sound good, but I also experienced way too much feedback.
"Why wouldn't you just have those in there" my thoughts exactly
Got this same guitar. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the pickups so I replaced them with the het set and love the thing!
Really!? I love the JL Sig blackouts
With Indonesian guitars costing $700, it's not shocking for a Korean guitar to be $1600, especially with name-brand pickups and an artist endorsement. How was the build quality and fretwork? That's what takes labor, which is the most expensive part of building a guitar.
Everything was excellent. Not USA custom shop quality, obviously, but very nice!
Then they sold out and ruined the greatest guitars to ever exist on the planet when they allowed Fender to wipe their @$$ with the quality of the brand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a big exciting marriage will happen soon here apparently, lets wait how she looks in a white finish 🤣🎸
Pretty fitting wearing a Dalia murder shirt while reviewing a Kelly
I just got this guitar a few weeks ago.
The big negative for every Kelly I've tried is the insane neck dive.
why wouldnt you just lower the gain in the amp?
I always played with not much gain (my vht is brutal even with not much gain so i prefer it like that) and my king V was making the same noise before i fixed it.
@@dirtyandnasty9011 it might be a ground issue. I would use electric contact cleaner to clean the switch it might help
Makes me even more glad that I refuse to get anything with a trem. Strong thru/hard tail only for me
Not sure how many guitars these days are shipped with noiseless springs. High end Ibanez and Music Man guitars costing almost $4K and don't come with noiseless springs.
Yeah.. I'd just turn the volume down on it until I was able to put some lower output pickups in it...
Companies always cut corners. Otherwise that guitar is awesome. I know it’s maybe not the biggest deal but I hate seeing expensive guitars not including OFR’s and having lower end trems. I haven’t used this bridge so maybe it’s really good.
shouldn’t the nt version be cheaper than this one???
Something else that put me off paying full price for this guitar is that the black paint on the pickups rubs off after not long at all, leaving you with half black half chrome pickups.
turn the gain down on the AMP to control the feedback problem..... trust me, i have been using blackouts for years....
Will you have the hard tail on the channel?
I already did! On launch day!
Still waiting for the hardtail bridge version 🥹
It is out now.
Ha...damn. Looks sick though.
If you keep wearing black dahlia merch or bringing them up in videos, I might just have to subscribe!
One of my all time favorites!
@@TaylorDanleyokay I subbed, but I’m usually more of a dom
I WISH THEY MADE MORE FINISHES WITHOUT A FLOYD ROSE!!!!!!
THAT ARE ALSO AFFORDABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🤘
Feel like the pickups are high gain but sound too thin for my liking.. I’d expect a beefy chug machine by just the looks
You got it right. It's bass wood just like the fish. Anyone that calls it base wood is obviously a bass player and you should stop being friends with them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. 😆
this or the Brandon Ellis kelly?
brandon's
Both
I'd have the Loomis but that's because I'm not a fan of crackle finishes.
Reverse headstocks suck 😃👍
Good question! I don't have a basis for comparison, but I do like the way the BE looks!!
I think 1000 series Floyds, are pretty damn close to original in quality. If original is a 10, I give them a solid 8 or 9. While licensed, or special or whatever. Is like a 3 or 4.
