- How to fix neck dive issues with Jim Dunlop strap locks:
BE CAREFUL AND GO SLOW. If you’re not comfortable doing this, see a guitar tech.
1. Remove strings.
2. Remove all neck bolts.
3. Remove the neck plate.
4. Drill through the neck plate and gasket with ¼ or 3/16 bit. The strap lock screw should not grip the neck plate.
5. Put neck plate back on.
6. Drill into the body using 3/32 or 7/64 drill bit; slightly smaller than screw. The screw should grip the wood. Use painter’s tape as a depth marker.
7. Screw on strap button.
8. Restring. Видеоклипы
Great job 🤘🏻 I've moded my Kelly with a reversed neck and the neck dive is crazy, even worse than my RR so I'll give this I try. Thanks mate!
Hope it works for you!
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 it worked perfectly! thanks for the idea bro!
@@EddyReckless I'm glad to hear that! My pleasure!
Thanks so much for a fantastic and thorough explanation in the video great job!
Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
Thank you a ton! I was trying to wrap my head around how I was going to install straplocks on my new guitar with that problem,so after watching I grabbed my drill and went to work and the results are great!
My pleasure!
Thank you! That really helped me with the idea how to do it, but I'm going to send the guitar to a guitar tech and do the job for me
Completely understandable. Better safe than sorry.
Very good!!!! Thanks
Thank you!
Holy shit i have jackson rx10d (98) and i just switched strap button position, 0 money spent and problem solved. THANK YOU MAN :D
I had an RX10-D. Great guitar! You're very welcome!
You should have done a video doing the process. I really wanted to see how you did it
Yeah, I should have... Next time I will.
Anyway I could do this & keep my tuning ?????
I recently picked up a JS32 Rhoads and quickly realized that the strap lock placement was the guitar's biggest flaw. I ordered a neck plate off Reverb to practice drilling through it. Any tips appreciated! I've never drilled through something solid like that neck plate haha
Go slow and take your time. When drilling through the plate, remember to choose a bit that is larger in circumference than the screw. You do not want the screw to grip on the plate. After drilling through the plate, reinstall it, then drill into the heel with a bit slightly smaller than the screw. This is where you want the screw to grip. Use painter's tape as a depth-stop. Best of luck!
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 Thank you!
@@Paincakes My pleasure. Hope it helps!
this solution is better
Thanks!
Do you think i could put a DiMarzio Cliplock strap on one of the neck plate bolts?
Mine are Dunlop, so I can't say for certain, but I don't see why not.
Hey Mike, is the guitar comfy to play with the strap button in the middle of the neck plate. Does it get in the way of playing the higher frets?
Hello Chris, great questions. It's totally comfortable to play with the button in the middle of the neck plate. As far as the higher frets, it seems okay to me (I just tried it out on my Kelly), but I don't spend much time in the higher frets anyway.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 Thanks man, I just got my Kelly yesterday and the screw that holds the strap button down broke and I was thinking about moving the strap button to the neck plate.
@@hawaiianshirtguy_29 Gotcha. When I sat down and tried it out, the button didn't really bother me as much as the neck and body joint and lower cut-away. It was just all-around awkward. But it wasn't solely the fault of the strap button. It would have been awkward if it wasn't there too. If that makes sense.
@@mikefrombloodofthewolf7076 I see what your saying. I can see that feeling awkward all around.
I am thinking buying the same guitar as you, is this guitar worth it?
Mine is a KE3 Reverse from 98. The neck is super thin. I like it very much. Is it worth it? Depends how much a seller is asking.
You can shave down the head on the screw
