  • This is the very easy and safe way to help cure the headache for neck dive on your Gibson or Epiphone flying V, and other guitars. No lead weights, no unnecessary repeat drilling. This helps you to know where that sweet spot is to relocate the strap button the first time! Although there are some guitars that will simply have some level of dive no matter what. Also see Part 2 video for even more control! Good luck.

    I have the same guitar and never had a problem with this. I use a good quality strap and tend to avoid the shiny thin smooth straps. DSL straps are comfortable and correct any dive problems.

    • @dougjanes8276
      @dougjanes8276  Год назад +2

      A better strap will definitely help, yes. But even with a leather strap mine would dive fairly good, and with a nylon of course dives like hell. But then that why I made the video for those who have the problem or even with another style. To use velcro as an easy and safe way to know where to relocate the buttons. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks DJ. Does the velcro/adhesive strip that is stuck to the strap hold over time? Seems like that wouldn’t hold very long unless the strap end is some kind of plastic material. Most of the ends of the straps are some kind of fabric material.

    • @dougjanes8276
      @dougjanes8276  Год назад +4

      Hey Mark. Actually its not meant to hold that long, just long enough to let you know where a good location will be to relocate your strap button. But use good velcro for this so it does hold good enough for the testing. Sorry if I didnt make that clear. Good luck.

      Yeah, there are definitely other brands that do it for sure. And doing this will help with any brand. Personally regardless of what some people say on here, Epiphone although a Gibson design is not Gibson quality. I wont buy another one. But I feel my comment is correct on slamming Gibson for allowing such dive.

    Relocating the strap button from the side of the body to the back of the neck joint fixes only part of the problem.
    To fix the rest of it you gotta shift the center of gravity further towards the neck.
    That happens by moving the strap button from the back of the uper wing to at least halfway between the tip of the wing and the "crotch" of the v cutaway if not closer to it.
    Thats how most modern v guitars are balanced.
    I did this with a gibson v copy with similar dive and now it sits at a 45 degree angle on its own with a slippery strap even.
    Pkus i have dean dave Mustaine sig. That came likecthis and also balances.
    I even did sonething dimilar with a bc rich warlock and it also worked

    Before you buy, hold it by the strap button. If you can't, because it dives, don't buy it.
    It's not a minor detail, it's a major malfunction. Gibson is too expensive for such a novice mistake.

      I agree... Gibson is so dug into their original designs (and the fact that they're selling nostalgia at this point) that they refuse to fix design flaws... it's insane. If this was the way every company worked we'd still be driving Model T's and using dial up internet.
      It's a shame because I'd love to play an SG again, but I hate dealing with the neck dive

      True its made in China, but its their design, and they control the manufacturing of it. Besides even the Gibson flying v is the exact same design with the strap buttons exactly in the same position. Either way it would be so easy for them to change the positions, but they dont.
