    As an owner of an X2D and the 80mm1.9, 45P and 28P a can relate to everything you have said in this video. The colors are incredible. As is the 15 stop contrast range and IBIS. I only shoot for myself because beginning 2023 i had a heart problem and i promised myself that isni get out of this in ine piece i will give myself a new Hasselblad in stead of always buying second hand and not buying a Hasselblad in my youth because i could get more bang for my buck with Bronica. Well i got more but it wasn't a bang. So the week after a small heart surgery i received a nice box from Hasselblad... All is well with my health and i haven't had a single moment of regret spending a lot of money. Everything about this camera gives me pleasure and there is infinite morw pleasure to live withe the images i take with this camera while i live than to be dead with money on the bank account. This camera gives color to my life. And as someone who always only did Black & White film and ambrotype that is quite a change. Especially because i never got satisfying colors from my film proces when i tried. And the Hasselblad does what i never got before. But i will stop rambling.... Great video 👍

    Spot on observations! I tried the X1D in 2020 and my jaw dropped when I saw the images. This was after having already used SL2 with APO primes and GFX system as well. The colors are not only richer but also believable at the same time, a very difficult balance to achieve. Lenses like the XCD 90 F3.2 and XCD 80 F1.9 render even mundane scenes like paintings. Sold everything and own the X2D now.
    X1DII is a great buy today with used prices very reasonable and that sensor is still hard to beat for the colors.

    The colors really do look amazing, even on RUclips. I was tempted by the first iteration of these but bought a GFX 50R as it was same sensor and Fuji had a very good deal on them at the time. I sold my Mamiya 7 to finance it. Long story short, I never really got on with the Fuji, didn't love the images or the process of using it and ended up selling it and repurchasing the Mamiya 7 as I could never really achieve what a roll of Portra 400 in the Mamiya could. Even run of the mill scans from my local lab gave me that wholly sh*t feeling when I brought them into Lightroom. Would love to have this on digital, looking at the X1D used prices now...

    My fellow Ocular-White-Balance-Asymmetry man. I've brought this occurrence up with friends in the past and no one ever knew what I was talking about. I feel seen, sir.
    As a child I would walk around the house switching between eyes (one open, one closed) to switch between slight variations in color perception and always wondered, "which is correct?" if there is such a thing. The effect is exponentially more prominent when entering an indoor environment from time spent outdoors with heavy sun.
    Also, a glasses wearer (two very different prescriptions per eye) and every now and then just kind of look around without them. Living life defocused at f/1.2. I enjoy the ability to shift my view of the world around me.

    I’ve used Hasselblad’s H system for many years in our studio. Incl. the H6D-100 until 1,5y ago. Up until then, I wasn’t impressed by the X1D. The MkII changed my mind a bit, but the X2D made me switch completely. We use them for fashion and beauty and to me, there’s no system like it for that. Not only the colors are great even without post, but when you edit them (sometimes you have to, in order to create something special), they don’t fall apart. The V lenses are a huge step up in terms of AF, compared to the original X lenses. Both the X1DII and the X2D handle so much better and easier than the H6D, that I have no regrets at all. Simply the best cameras I’ve ever used for fashion and beauty.

      Totally agree about the X1D and the MKII. The X2D made me switch from Fuji GFX. I am a landscape photographer and the X2D, with the V lenses, is perfect for that. In fact it takes me back to 4x5. I also used the X2D recently to photograph a wedding - it was perfect in terms of handling and hardly needed any colour adjustments.

    The human eye is the final arbiter of color science and since we all have our own eye(s) we all have our own color science. I've run across this before - some photographers are color centered where I am more subject centered. Don't get me wrong, I love HNCS and color is very important but not at the expense of an interesting subject. I've been shooting Hasselblad cameras for about 12 years starting with the H series and moving into the X1D, X1Dii and about a year ago the X2D which is my favorite camera for non-action photography. I actually love the fact that the auto focus isn't that so great. It slows me down and I always manually focus just before I shoot. This "slowing down" is very important in most forms of photography. It allows me to explore my composition and look closer. I used to take lots of pictures thinking I can always pick when I get home but that just doesn't work. Slowing down is key! Loved you video as I do all your work!

But then this ability to use each eye for assessing warm and cold colour tones may be a blessing for you. 🤔Another great video - thanks for sharing it.

    Great video! I have had my X2D for about a year, picked it up used at BH for about $6300. Before hasselblad , I was primarily GFX shooter for a couple of years and loved that system. And before Fuji GFX, I was a stone cold Sony shooter. I brought the A7 and left Sony at A7R4, the A7R5 is their best. I had the Nikon D90/850/z7 and loved that system as well. But I have to tell you, for me, every time I go out shooting with the X2D, the experience is always emotional, the overall handling and the user experience is the best, imo. The X2D just get out your way. It is the only camera system that consistently inspires me to shoot, even when I am not in the mood.
    I also agree that the Hassy color science is the best, and yeah you can tweak the colors any modern camera and get close, but you will not get the hasselblad character that can't be explained. As a matter of fact, I convert 50% of shots to B&W and oh baby, the tonality is breathtaking. I like the B&W that comes out of my X2D much more then my Q2M, which I will be selling. But the Q2M is my second favorite camera; only if the EVF was bigger, more magnification and had a eye cup.
    All that is to say, great video and I agree. The best camera is the one you have with you! Just get out and shoot because there are moments that needs to be captured. Happy shooting to all!!!

But the real interesting thing I discovered was in checking prices on it and a lens - it is very compatible price wise with buying a Leica M11 and lens. Using LEICA M system since 1986, also the Leica Q, and X-Pro series since 2012 I like them all a lot. However, I always had to correct colors in too many circumstances. The Fujis always tend to cold tint in shadows, especially showing wrong greens. And even the M 11 has a magenta tint in sunshine shoots. Having used the X2D since a couple of months I did not correct their colors ONCE. Kudos to Hasselblad’s colors.

    Great video (as usual), Hugh (P.S. Glad you and Claudia had a great time in one of MY favorite places, York and Ogunquit). But I wondered if it would be possible to "import" Hasselblad's amazing color (or colour if you prefer) solution to Lightroom. Okay maybe not but maybe close. I made an assumption that while EACH X2D or CFV 100c back is "individually" calibrated I figured "on average" the profiles must be relatively close to one another. So I downloaded some Hasselblad X2D Raw Files...and loaded them into Lightroom where I saw a profile that showed up for each called "camera standard" (which I had read on someone else's post in DPReview that that happens). I tried to create a preset but that was a no go. So I simply copied the settings (command C on an Apple Mac) of one of the un-onkapatchkied Raw files in the develop module (which I assumed was no different than an unretouched jpg) and then opened up a RAW file taken with the Sony A7CR I just bought. VOILA! Sony colors were replaced with Hasselblad colors -- I think. Would the difference in bit depth make a. difference? Perhaps. Nonetheless...Wow! Lovely. Just lovely. HUGE difference HUGH! (Again maybe not EXACTLY the HBCS but not garrish in the slightest). I can certainly understand how you so love their science. Now I can apply it to my "poor man's Hasselblad" set up I've created. Thanks again for your insights and inspirations.

    The colours in my M11 never grab my artistic self in the same way that the GFX did.
    I have to say the X2D is attractive to me but it would have to be my only camera. Do you think it can be a travel and documentary camera or is it too big etc?
    I also love the X-Pan crop, which I recreated in the GFX quite well.

    • @3BMEP

      Two different animals, although because your current camera is an M11-P, those differences may not matter to you - although both systems are NUCH bigger and heavier than your M. GFX has better AF, wider lens selection, video… you really do have to have it in hand to make a considered decision.

    • @marcusnz232

      The GFX was just too much to carry. I had the original with the built in grip and that and four lenses required a team of porters! 😂
      The X2D produces amazing output from everything I’ve seen - and oh, the colours! However I’m a bit wary even though the M has some irritations.

    Hello Hugh, Your just so right. "Hold that thought"(Sorry) My life started with Hasselblad back in the 1980's. So when they released the X series I was very interested as the Fuji GFX came out with a very short time, as someone used to manual cameras and knowing my local camera store(No longer) had both cameras I went to see them and they let mr have both to test. To be honest there is not a lot between them. There for me were two thing the Hasselblad had or is better with Natural Colour and handling. So after a week of going though the files I went back and got the Hasselblad X1D and over time most of the lenses for the system. When the X2D came out I when out and got one. For me it one of thoughts cameras that make you want to go out and shot or even find an excuse to go out and shot.

    Marvelous or not, I can't use this. Not because I didn't want to, but because Hasselblad doesn't want me to.
    I tried to get into this system. I decided to buy a couple lenses first since I'd heard they were terribly difficult to get and I didn't want to end up with a camera body I couldn't use. Bought one lens, had to camp the Hasselblad store for months for a chance to buy the other... and then the store didn't send it to me. They put another tracking number into my order, making it look like it'd been fulfilled. Took me two weeks to notice it wasn't my tracking number, and then two months of asking what was going on, before they decided to just cancel my order (costing me hundreds of dollars in currency conversion fees). I'm not about to start camping the store for months again, especially not after it screwed me this bad, so now I can't get into the system and will have to sell the lens I already got at a loss. Awful experience. I strongly recommend not attempting to get into this system, the lenses are too hard to get and their store policies are unacceptable.

  • @nunyabidness8870
    @nunyabidness8870 Месяц назад

    In all of the reviews of the X2D I've watched and read, I have somehow missed the part about auto iso not working in manual mode. That ruins the camera for me, as manual aperture/manual shutter/auto iso is my favorite way to shoot. drat. Better to find out now than after purchasing, though.

    • @nunyabidness8870
      @nunyabidness8870 Месяц назад

      And that, to me, is the real tragedy. It isn't that the camera can't do it, customers just aren't allowed to. I've gotten burned by the waiting for firmware updates game before, so I'm going to have to hold off or reconsider until that update comes.

    With all due respect, there are no sufficient lenses in the market for this camera.. We are unable to shoot with a camera without lenses. Hassi doesn't allow third-parties to make lenses for them, I believe. Leica allows Sigma to produce its lenses for them, more choices for photographers.. In fact, a Japanese company supplies lens materials for Hassi. I would love to purchase this system, but no lenses are available in most stores.. They are all coming SOON, said. As 'lifestyle' photographers (with 35 years each in hand) Jane and I started out in the digital world with the 1st GFX and we were awed and wowed by the cost vs the results - simply stunning - however a few years down the line we aren't so sure - a but 'fad' ish and washed out and some of the lenses do weird things and not always wanted - the 110 is a'prime example -of this - pun unintentional. So we went all in with 2 X2D's and a little 907x CFV100c as I miss the old days of waist level proper and now we are convinced we made the right choice if it were not for one thing - and that is where Hasselblad have always been a a bit hit and miss - lens lineup. We will stick with them for now but Hass if you are watching, reading and 'listening' and you should; since this is the best channel there is on such matters - you really need to convince not just us that investing in your company and reputation was, is and will still be worth it in years to come!!!!
