remember that body shaming isn’t always just someone directly calling another person ugly. of course that is definitely a prominent form of body shaming, but it isn’t the only way people get body shamed. for instance: saying that a fat person shouldn’t wear the same style of clothing a skinny person should wear IS body shaming. this happens A LOT with dress codes.

hey! if any of you have trouble clearing your mind while meditating, i've found that it works really well to imagine your breaths as waves on a beach. when you inhale, picture the water drawing back, focus on the sound of your breath, hold for a bit then exhale, imagining the water crashing against the shore. make sure that you're belly breathing too. i've found that this lowers my heart rate when i'm trying not to panic, helps me go to sleep, and helps me center myself. i learned it in yoga and it is so so useful. usually when i try deep breathing i get distracted by my train of thought so having a visual really helps. i hope this is useful for someone!!

I wrote something a while ago about microaggressions and how it's hard to point them out because cishet people, even allies, just don't see them and it's so easy for them to make you seem like you're making things up. Like, how do you tell cishet people that "I'm okay with gay people, but..." is inherently homophobic? Because all they ever seem to hear is that the person is okay with gay people, while queer people hear that 'but' loud and clear. The word 'but' always contradicts the previous statement. So no, you're not truly okay with gay people--or at least, you have certain conditions they have to meet first. If there is a bar for a group of people to meet before you like them, you're not actually okay with them--not as they are, and not as a whole.

I think the French guy’s tiktok is missing a bit of context. For many years in American black history, Paris has basically been seen as real-life wakanda. Before the civil rights movement, many black creatives and philosophers moved to Paris to experience what to them, compared to American Jim Crow era oppression, was basically heaven. Paris is heavily featured and idealized in black American texts, both academic and purely creative from that era and decades following. Paris has maintained a remnant of that idyllic association over the years. So I feel like the tiktok he was responding to consisted of the Americans being shocked at how different reality was from what they were taught, but it’s not because of “white washing.” It’s because Paris and France are so idyllic in a lot of black literature from that era of American history.
Hey so at 4:28 there is some pretty significant misinformation. Like 10/10, completely false. The idea that taking testosterone can cause ovarian cancer if you don't get a hysterectomy is a myth. This is not true. The NHS in the UK has ratified this, contrary to what he says. Any increase in ovarian cancer rates in trans masc people on hormones is due to lower screening rates. Ovarian cancer is hard to detect and trans masc people are not given adequate support to access screenings - hell, most cis women aren't either. This increase in ovarian cancer rates is seen in trans mascs not taking HRT but as they are slightly more likely to attend screenings its a bit lower. Its not the T causing the cancer, its the lack of early detection which makes it appear like ovarian cancer is a more common cause of death for trans mascs than other people with ovaries. Also - to be really nitpicky - technically, a hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus and not the ovaries (oophorectomy)... so its even more untrue. Although "total hysterectomy" is used for ovaries, cervix and uterus, making things muddier. Testosterone doesn't rot anyone's uterus. This is horrific misinformation and fuels the idea that HRT is bad or mutilating. Trans people are already pressured into surgery that they may not want or need to be as "cis" as possible. Trans people do not need to have any kind of surgery or medical transition if they do not want it. Even if a medical intervention (any intervention, not just trans-related care) does have a higher chance of cancer risk, you can mitigate that by increased screenings. For example, many cancer treatments cause an increased risk of cancer at a later date - so people who have already survived cancer will often need more regularly screenings. The cramps are likely due to the fact that testosterone is the first step to producing estrogen. When your testosterone level is too high, its processed into estrogen. Estrogen is a big cause of cramps if the progesterone level is not sufficient to regulate it. Its basic chemistry. You go to the doctor and they will lower your T levels. Also, having T levels too high will mean that you do not experience the changes from T as quickly because your body will still have very high estrogen. High testosterone doesn't correspond to masculinity. Steroid use is very well known to cause feminisation in body builders because it induces overly high testosterone. (From my friends experiences, beard growth seems to be particularly slowed by overly high T levels then being turned into E.) If you want hysto, get it. But it absolutely is not medically nessecary. Don't listen to this uninformed stranger on the internet.

The gland grows as the baby grows, but its blood supply doesn't grow with it. When a major blood loss occurs, the gland could be susceptible to ischemia. One of the signs is an inability to produce milk, since the pituitary gland is responsible for making prolactin (a milk secreting hormone). It's called Sheehan syndrome, and there are treatmenst for it.

The effects of testosterone on your uterus and ovaries isn't researched a Lot, but as of right now there is no evidence that chances of cancer are any higher (but they still exist, please go for screenings) or that you.... have a rotting organ in your body? I understand the video was about the pelvic pain and cramping being on testosterone can cause when you have a uterus/ovaries still, but more information and letting people know that your organs are Not rotting is a good thing

hey! if any of you have trouble clearing your mind while meditating, i've found that it works really well to imagine your breaths as waves on a beach.
when you inhale, picture the water drawing back, focus on the sound of your breath, hold for a bit then exhale, imagining the water crashing against the shore. make sure that you're belly breathing too.
i've found that this lowers my heart rate when i'm trying not to panic, helps me go to sleep, and helps me center myself. i learned it in yoga and it is so so useful. usually when i try deep breathing i get distracted by my train of thought so having a visual really helps.

I wrote something a while ago about microaggressions and how it's hard to point them out because cishet people, even allies, just don't see them and it's so easy for them to make you seem like you're making things up. Like, how do you tell cishet people that "I'm okay with gay people, but..." is inherently homophobic? Because all they ever seem to hear is that the person is okay with gay people, while queer people hear that 'but' loud and clear. The word 'but' always contradicts the previous statement. So no, you're not truly okay with gay people--or at least, you have certain conditions they have to meet first. If there is a bar for a group of people to meet before you like them, you're not actually okay with them--not as they are, and not as a whole.
Feels like a micro aggression when people put a massive burden of proof on you if you say you're transgender.
I've said it before an I will say it again. Most of the time anything said before the "but" is a falsehood at best.

For many years in American black history, Paris has basically been seen as real-life wakanda. Before the civil rights movement, many black creatives and philosophers moved to Paris to experience what to them, compared to American Jim Crow era oppression, was basically heaven. Paris is heavily featured and idealized in black American texts, both academic and purely creative from that era and decades following.
Paris has maintained a remnant of that idyllic association over the years.
So I feel like the tiktok he was responding to consisted of the Americans being shocked at how different reality was from what they were taught, but it’s not because of “white washing.” It’s because Paris and France are so idyllic in a lot of black literature from that era of American history.
Hey so at 4:28 there is some pretty significant misinformation. Like 10/10, completely false.
The idea that taking testosterone can cause ovarian cancer if you don't get a hysterectomy is a myth. This is not true. The NHS in the UK has ratified this, contrary to what he says. Any increase in ovarian cancer rates in trans masc people on hormones is due to lower screening rates. Ovarian cancer is hard to detect and trans masc people are not given adequate support to access screenings - hell, most cis women aren't either. This increase in ovarian cancer rates is seen in trans mascs not taking HRT but as they are slightly more likely to attend screenings its a bit lower. Its not the T causing the cancer, its the lack of early detection which makes it appear like ovarian cancer is a more common cause of death for trans mascs than other people with ovaries.
Also - to be really nitpicky - technically, a hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus and not the ovaries (oophorectomy)... so its even more untrue. Although "total hysterectomy" is used for ovaries, cervix and uterus, making things muddier.
Testosterone doesn't rot anyone's uterus. This is horrific misinformation and fuels the idea that HRT is bad or mutilating. Trans people are already pressured into surgery that they may not want or need to be as "cis" as possible. Trans people do not need to have any kind of surgery or medical transition if they do not want it. Even if a medical intervention (any intervention, not just trans-related care) does have a higher chance of cancer risk, you can mitigate that by increased screenings. For example, many cancer treatments cause an increased risk of cancer at a later date - so people who have already survived cancer will often need more regularly screenings.
The cramps are likely due to the fact that testosterone is the first step to producing estrogen. When your testosterone level is too high, its processed into estrogen. Estrogen is a big cause of cramps if the progesterone level is not sufficient to regulate it. Its basic chemistry. You go to the doctor and they will lower your T levels. Also, having T levels too high will mean that you do not experience the changes from T as quickly because your body will still have very high estrogen. High testosterone doesn't correspond to masculinity. Steroid use is very well known to cause feminisation in body builders because it induces overly high testosterone. (From my friends experiences, beard growth seems to be particularly slowed by overly high T levels then being turned into E.)
If you want hysto, get it. But it absolutely is not medically nessecary. Don't listen to this uninformed stranger on the internet.

The gland grows as the baby grows, but its blood supply doesn't grow with it. When a major blood loss occurs, the gland could be susceptible to ischemia. One of the signs is an inability to produce milk, since the pituitary gland is responsible for making prolactin (a milk secreting hormone). It's called Sheehan syndrome, and there are treatmenst for it.

One thing to know about testosterone with a uterus is that it does NOT mean that you have a rotting organ inside you? Yes, people taking testosterone can get pelvic pain and cramps, and vaginal atrophy is very much a thing (that you can do something about! estrogen creams work to help this and do not have enough estrogen to impact your hrt). The effects of testosterone on your uterus and ovaries isn't researched a Lot, but as of right now there is no evidence that chances of cancer are any higher (but they still exist, please go for screenings) or that you.... have a rotting organ in your body?
I understand the video was about the pelvic pain and cramping being on testosterone can cause when you have a uterus/ovaries still, but more information and letting people know that your organs are Not rotting is a good thing
oh also I know it sucks SO bad to go to the doctor about this stuff as a trans person, and sometimes we're not taken seriously, but if you're ever having cramps or pain or something you feel is wrong, please bring it up with a healthcare professional you trust. they may be able to find ways to help you!
