I am in need of a recommend for a main camera. I am getting back into filming my hunts with a small group of buddies and am looking into DSLR/Mirrorless setups. The cameras on my list are the Sony A7iii, Sony a6600, Canon EOS R, and Canon 5D Mark IV. I would love a recommendation and why. Thanks

When Jordan says "...you might wanna hold off..." more often than not he has future product information that he can't mention just yet. Canons mirrorless version of the 1DX Mark 3 will be really good (especially with that ND filter).

It's interesting: I've got the impression that while Chris got more natural in front of the camera and a little more authentic and less positive in his judgement of the cameras since you're TCS days (not selling cams directly surely helps), you got less tense, a little bit more positive and more fluid and professional. Heat/battery draw (4K120 is 995,328,000 pixels to read out and process per second. Even Desktop PCs struggle with that). People think Canon is so conservative, but Sony cameras still overheat when filming (or even just recording externally) for extended periods. The Canon's don't. Edit: actually, I forgot: with full sensor readout you need to first downsample 20MP to 8MP, which is also not so easy on processing power.
"Both All-I and IPB compression options are available, along with the ability to autofocus when shooting at up to 5.5K raw at 30 fps or cropped DCI 4K at 60 fps. When using the full-frame area, 4K autofocus is limited to 30 fps." (B&H) So it's not entirely true that you can't use AF in 4K - just not in full-frame.
On a 43" 4k monitor, the 4k video is real soft. There isn't any grain and it is smooth but so far I'm not impressed with the lack of detail. It almost looks like an upscaled 1080 or 1440p image. Also the rolling shutter is not too good either. 5:46. So all the raw this and that and high bitrate is meaningless if the image is soft to begin with. I know I know, it's a photo camera. So I don't need to be reminded of that.
Wondering about: - How is the rolling shutter? As bad a the EOS R or closer to C200/C500II? - Is there anyway to sync timecode through any of the ports? That's one of the best features of the S1H over the other mirrorless/dslr competition (and the reason it got Netflix approved, a long with the All-I 10-bit 422 4K).
why wait? just go for the Sony A7RIV. It is there today. It is half price today. With that money you can afford to buy excellent glass, when selling Canon glass second hand
@@BenelliMr That's a weird suggestion for someone considering a 1DX Mark III. I mean the A7RIV is a great camera, but it's a different category of camera than a 1D or A9 series, both for stills and video. Someone who wants high frame rates, absolute top autofocus, and raw video may not care about super high resolution, wide stills dynamic range, EVF, or cheaper body price (not factoring in lenses! Selling a collection of Canon telephotos could easily lose you several thousand dollars in depreciation).
Very accurate review. I'm assuming the only reason to buy this for video is to get high durability, and weather sealing, otherwise you're wasting your money if you think video first.
Hi guys will you be testing prores raw in nikon z6? How does it compare with canon raw, braw? How much can we push the footage coming from z6 prores raw , how's the highlight, shadow recovery, highlight rolloff, lowlight, dynamic range? Is af better after recent updates on Nikon z6?
For video, I prefer the S1H IBIS Super deluxe tilty screen more choices in file format clean HDMI output cheaper storage media the only downside is the AF

Guys your footage is distinctly soft. Video has some.blinking issues just before you show the digital stabilization. The AF does not quite work where you tried to demonstrate it..... It seems weird you were so enthusiastic
My BMPCC 4K is cheap with more shooting options. I know I don’t have autofocus and then no ibis but looking at this on my editing monitor I feel my bmpcc is killing this but I am taking the RUclips compression in my notes.

I can see how you feel never experiencing it but after living in both I can say that I prefer being warm than being cold, especially since tomorrow it's going to be ten degrees below freezing and I have to walk my dog regardless. 😒

3:35 that crop for EIS and no IBIS though ... and they can't use the excuse of "cannot stabilize larger sensor" because the entire panasonic s-series already does it, and with aplomb no less.
Exactly. Not to mention Fujifilm and their GFX100 which has an image stabilized medium format sensor. This camera seems to have cut some corners in very odd places.
I totally agree, as an X-T3 owner I think that footage smashes this out of the park, especially on the price front. I have always been a fan of canon but God damn, do they think video peeps will spend that much on this? If I wanted 6k I would go bmcc, less that half the price.

@@JamesTseros I sell my x-t3, the image is oke, but that focus is not that great to work with, also I can't change setting as whitebalance, there is no focus peaking while using autofocus while recording etc etc.. its not handy as my pana lx100 for example, but going to film with a proper videocamera like the sony z90 to get the shot I want quick.
Peter Lemke well the video was about THE VIDEO...the still capabilities are obvious. I get it though for the narrow subset of pros who would want it for both.
I am still waiting for a review that test the focusing in live view at 20fps. Because i would bet that the focusing with fast moving objects sucks. And Can't wipe the a_s of a Sony A9 or A9ll. From what i hear The Canon Eosr can't even lock onto fast moving thing at 6fps.
This camera will definitely be a work horse for many people. If youre a video focused person, I wonder when someone would buy this instead of a video focused camera tho. The Camera does look amazing tho.
This will sound like trolling, but its not. I didn't like the colors on these videos at all. Compared to Panasonic videos you guys are shooting or Sony stuff I've seen this is a step backwards. Non of those mystical Canon colors impress me much. The whole image look kind of cheap. Maybe its the grading or something I don't know but not impressed with the footage. Just saying.
@@timelapsega Could be. It seems to me that the blues are more towards the violet than they should be and skin tones a bit more red then they should be but that is a matter of taste I guess. It also seemed a bit underexposed for about half a stop in few outdoor shots.

Comparing Panasonic, Sony, Fuji and Nikon and Canon side by side, random order with no labels, just so people can vote. And reveal results after its been online for a month and enough people had enough time to vote. That would eliminate the Coke vs Pepsi problem. Brand bias. As long as people know which brand is which, people will gravitate towards their favorite brand. And "Canon Colors" comment is getting annoying as hell. I would love to see some blind testing and have the bias remove as much as possible from equation.
This really feels like Canon included all the headline video features in a body and format that makes it really not usable for serious video. Uncompressed raw internal only makes a terrible workflow, no EVF, no AF in 4k60 takes fast action with focus-by-wire lenses out, and no IBIS leaves you putting this on a huge heavy setup. This seems like Canon still protecting their Cinema line, instead of putting the best camera forward. They could have taken all the video features out and just made it a high end sports and event camera, cut the price by $2000 and it would have been a better camera.
no dpaf with 4k 60p in full frame. In crop it works. a lot of places are leaving that out. i think the crop is a 1.3 or 1.4 crop. whatever the 1dx ii was thanks to the low megapixel count
Nah, you get used to the cold. I visited my cousin in Ohio, it was 25°F and blowing hard, he's in a T shirt starting the tractor. I was frozen solid, he's in a T shirt. Canada is frozen solid 10 months of the year, so. This video was taken in August.
If you aren't complaining about the newest canon dslr not having all the video features you want then you are complaining about a dslr with al the features you want stuck in a dslr body. WTF? Impossible to please
@@richardbeasley9084 Sorry, my bad in typo. My confusion still remains, if a guy that works at Canon, on a launching day, says the 4K is oversampled, I believe him. And oversampling, am I wrong doesn`t it mean it takes the 1080p and fakes it to 4K (like they do on the lower end cameras like the M series)? Maybe he made a mistake and meant downscaled, in which case would make sense since it shoots in 5.5K. Not trying to be a keyboard brat here, just was a bit confused :)

With these high end specs, why are slowmo options so limited and seem stuck in place for so long now...why is no one doing 4k120? HD 240?

The best review online. Many youtubers failed to mention Idx3 just produce the cinematic 4k, not the full sensor 4k yet.

Have you tried using DaVinci Resolve to open the files? Resolve adds support to new cameras ahead of launch
Yes, we've tried Resolve on both Mac and PC with no success. Canon RAW Development still doesn't support the files as well.

I had high hopes for this camera for video, but the form factor was designed for stills.

it does give you DPAF in cropped 4k mode .. which im guessing is the 1.3 crop
It gives you DPAF in full frame 4k too. Just not in 60p. You can get 4k60p with DPAF in 1.3x cropped mode

They could have taken all the video features out and just made it a high end sports and event camera, cut the price by $2000 and it would have been a better camera.
it does give you DPAF in cropped 4k mode .. which im guessing is the 1.3 crop
@@aspiresaadi I didn't see it listed yet, Canon's crop in the past was 1.7X, 1.3X is not that big of deal.
It's not internal only, it'll output 5.5K Raw via HDMI. It does suck they dont give compression options though, 64GB = 4 minutes at 5.5k 24/30.

no dpaf with 4k 60p in full frame. In crop it works. a lot of places are leaving that out. i think the crop is a 1.3 or 1.4 crop. whatever the 1dx ii was thanks to the
low megapixel count

Nah, you get used to the cold. I visited my cousin in Ohio, it was 25°F and blowing hard, he's in a T shirt starting the tractor. I was frozen solid, he's in a T shirt.

Nex 1 will be DSLR as well. This camera is for sport and action shooting. Not for youtubers. In Rs' AF is to slow.

Canon said in Peter Mckinnon`s video that the 4K is UPSCALED 4K, am I wrong or does it mean that it`s a fake 4k?
I was under the impression it was downscaled from the 5.5K.
The PM video said oversampled 4k.
From their website: “It can also capture uncropped DCI 4K/60p footage, which is downsampled from 5.5K, in Canon Log with 10-bit 4:2:2 color”
@@richardbeasley9084 Sorry, my bad in typo. My confusion still remains, if a guy that works at Canon, on a launching day, says the 4K is oversampled, I believe him. And oversampling, am I wrong doesn`t it mean it takes the 1080p and fakes it to 4K (like they do on the lower end cameras like the M series)?
Maybe he made a mistake and meant downscaled, in which case would make sense since it shoots in 5.5K.
