  • The Canon 1DX 2 is one of the best cameras that Canon has ever released. In this video I am going over the pros and cons of the camera and whether I think it is still worth it in 2024.

Nice video :) When i saw the 1DX MARK II for the first time back in 2014. Knowing the features and everything, since then I wanted to buy one for myself but i was not able to afford it because it was still very damn expensive that time. 9 years later, this year in 2023 right after my Birthday on February I finally brought a Canon 1DX Mark II and I am so happy that i got one myself! I still kept my 5D Mark III :)

How is it compared to the 5diii? I have one as my main body, but I need a backup as mine broke…I’m wondering whether to get the 1Dxii for my main and make the 5diii the backup? I love the 5d but I’ve had the 1d series before (still got a 1dsii I use for landscapes) and nothing compares to the feel of them

I've got a Canon 1Dx Mark II and three 1D Mark IV bodies. I'm a press/news guy, but I shoot video (interviews) too. I'll get a second 1Dx Mark II because they are good cameras and can be had for $2k USD in excellent condition these days. As for the 1D Mark IV, they are as low as $450 USD. That's mind-blowing. If you're on a tight budget and want 'flagship' cameras and lenses, don't get the latest model - get second or third generation gear. You can get a white Canon 400mm f2.8L (non-IS) telephoto lens for $1k.

Love the video. I went from medium format film to digital with the 5D classic--I still own three of the original 5Ds. Lately I've been shooting a Sony A7RIII. But I learned photography in 1980, and human and animal eye detection make me feel lazy. Your video has sold me on the Canon 1DX II. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to go out and get one. Cheers.

These canon 1D bodies are way better than anything out right now as far as the current mirror less options. They were tanks. Today’s R5’s, R’s, etc feel so weak. I’m even afraid to put larger lenses on them like the 300 f2.8’s, etc. They don’t overheat, they don’t need charging every few hours, etc. My old 1D bodies could last DAYS with full shooting. I decided to cross brands and try a Sony A7IV and was very disappointed in everything but the image quality. The camera let me down during my daughters concert because it overheated. It even shut down due to overheating while just browsing the menu. I sold it, and now got a 1DxII

Have been using this camera since it came out, I shoot surf and swimwear in the ocean and at the beach a lot as well as fashion. The images are always stunning and it is a tank! I tired them all: R5, Sony, Fuji and even Leica (which came with a full row of dead pixels) and this remains my favorite. I say, if it was good for a cover shoot 7 years ago, is good for it now!

The 1D and 5D build quality is no joke. I’ve had my 5DmkII for over a decade now. Dropped it a few times, and used it in the snow and rain many times. It still takes phenomenal photos. I just wish it had some more tonal range and low light performance, so I think it’s time to upgrade. It also has too many dead pixels to shoot low light video. Stills aren’t phased since it can cancel them out.

Hello Christiano, congrats on your video and your channel keep up the good work!. I want to share my 2 cents regarding the 1DX Mark II camera as a photographer. As a photography camera I want to tell you that this camera is great and it one of the complete photographic cameras out there alongside the Nikon D5 (which came out the same year 2016 as the 1DX Mark II). What is very important is to understand that these cameras are top of the line cameras for speed and press photography. The scope of this camera is to assure the photographer that you have the maximum possible photo quality, ISO speed and autofocus. These two types of "press" cameras will allow you take the photos and give your photos to the client or newspaper on the same day, if you set the correct settings these cameras will give you straight out of them the perfect jPEGs -> that doesn't mean you can't use the raw files, you can edit the raw files however you like. The price of these cameras new were aprox 6000 $ and at that price point you get everything you need at a camera except one factor that some photographers may need which is resolution. These "press" cameras give you outstanding battery life, robustness, world class weather sealing, world class autofocus tracking and autofocus precision and burst capabilities, ISO speed and customization of everything from the camera. The resolution of 20mpx it is something very unique to these two types of camera. It is widely regarded and known scientifically that the 35mm digital sensor produces the best optimal quality of pictures between 12 and 21Mpx -> or maybe pushed to 24Mpx. At this size of the sensor 35mm engineers can make the pixels as big enough to produce great images between 12 and 21mpx and to get great colors and the famous "3D pop". Beyond the 24mpx and this is my personal opinion and experience through the years using different resolution cameras things get "difficult" lets say. At beyond 24 Mpx, lets say 30mpx, 45mpx, 50mpx, etc you need astonishing great lenses to produce sharp images because optical engineers need to design the lenses to cope with the higher resolution, second most important issue is you need to have very sturdy hands because every tiny camera shake will be projected and captured on the high resolution sensor.
I honestly believe that you cannot compare the Canon 1DX Mark II to the Canon R5 because of the difference in resolution and how will the images will look. You can compare the Canon 1DX Mark II with the Canon 1DX Mark III or the Canon R3, the scope of the Canon R3 is to be the next "press" camera and it has the 24.1mpx sensor.
You can see the Canon 1DX mark II and Canon R5 as apples and pears, both great but oriented at different photo jobs. I would use and see the Canon R5 as the successor of the high resolution Canon 5DS/5DSR which I am still using the 5DS for product photography (restaurants to photo food menus and wine menus and jewelry) -> where you might need resolution. But for weddings, family portraits, sport events, and so on I am using my Canon 1DX Mark I and 1DX Mark II which produce fantastic pictures and jPEGs straight out of the cameras which are sufficient for both a printed album and also to see the pictures on a mobile phone. Thanks and let me know what are your thoughts. best regards, Rares

hi there ! Recently I have sold my a7r3 sony and bought this beast for my candid video projects...its amazing, its wonderful, people questioned me a lot, that why you've taken this 6YRS OLD CAMERA ?my answer was very simple,It shoots 4K 60 fps,FHD 100FPS what else a candid Videographer need out of it and it got touch focus system and in post production i can increase my 4k footage to 100 or 120 fps,And most important it is weather sealed camera and if we talk about budget, then Ef lenses are quiet cheaper than RF Lenses and Sony Lenses. When u hold this 1dx and shoot it feels like professional, compare to mirrorless camera.and color science of Canon is always great compare to Sony.6yrs ago 1dx mark ii has launched 4k 60fps,and now from last 2 yrs you could see sony and other mirrorless are releasing 4K 60 and 120 Fps,Just think how advance is Canon Technology.Believe me its a beast, Let any other camera come in the market, this is Number One and it will remain Number One....Am proud to be a 1DXmarkii user in 2023...

I owned the 1DX Markii since 2017 and moved on to R3 at the end of 2022. 1DX Markii is still a beast a lot of features are outdated. No flip out screen, no clog, heavy weight, no ibis enhancement, etc. In terms of videography, I would say 1DX Markii is not worth it in 2023, you can save some cost to choose other cameras that work better. In terms of photography, it’s still workable and a beast to do that job. So in the end, it all comes down to what kind of artist you’re close to.

RF glass is just better. Even my RF100-400 F5.6-F8 gives me more sharper photos than my 20 year old EF400 F5.6 L prime lens.
The technology for lenses has come a long way in the last 20 years.

Of course it’s worth it. The 1D series by Canon platitude & this is the reason why Canon discontinued the range. I think this particular body will be around for years because has a pro it does the job. With the mirror less range the issue I have is the battery life. The R5 needs battery packs to endure a long tennis match or a kong shoot & battery packs are not cheap.

Of course it is. I bought a Sony Alpha A7IV and returned that crap and saved almost 1k buying a used 1Dx II. It's nice not having to worry about overheating.

Quck answer: Yes, if you already have one; it's still a great camera; Maybe, if you don't have one and can pick it up at reasonable cost, and if you already have lots of good EF glass..... It amazes me how everyone, everywhere can rave about a brand new camera, and how good it performs --- then just a few years later try to say it's pretty much junk. Nonsense. IF you ARE actually a professional, then you can justify the absolute latest model, if not, then the previous top-of-the-line cameras are most probably going to be quite fine..... On the other hand, I'm waiting for the R1.... and waiting, and waiting.

The canon 1dx isn't a portraite camera to start with, it's a sports camera.

Honestly I hate this camera, I was issued one at work and I’m desperately searching RUclips to find a way to work around this beast until my personal Sony arrives. My main gripe is its weight and nearly no ability to shoot in low light. Prior to photo and video becoming my job I’d have loved this camera but lugging it around all day is taxing.

By low light do you mean pitch black? Not really tryna be funny. I had no trouble shooting low light when paired with great glass

@@jamesbrowning2746 normal lowlight as in fluorescent lights which usually is combated by 1250 iso but anything over 100 with this camera is garbage. I have access to their entire ef USM range of lenses including the 800mm f5.6/L IS. Glass isn’t the issue and my Sony easily tackles the job. For portrait photography or high speed action outside while it’s bright the cannon kicks ass but once indoors it’s a very expensive paperweight if you need iso.
