This exact model has been my go to for spontaneous photography - it was a gift brand new when they first came out when I was a kid and it’s still going strong (other than the rubber component at the bottom which disintegrated). Took it on a long NYC trip a few years ago and used it more than my DSLR and Mirrorless cameras. It has that special character and the form is actually super elegant.

Hi! As someone with digicam, people don’t usually use “AUTO” mode. I use cloudy/flash wb, -0.3 exp, iso 100. You don’t need to edit it after. Also, I use a sony digicam so the settings may vary.

I first picked up this camera for $7 with charger, sd card, bag, and extra battery at my local thrift store. I used it to record my hs graduation, after the first one breaking I've picked up 2 more since then. Now currently have given my last working one to my father as I lost one of his point and shoot. For what it is, this camera will always have a place in my heart! It has been interesting seeing the resurgence and increased price of them. I used to be able to pick them up with box for $35 a pop.

I don’t think that it’s worth to buy an old digicam for 70$+, but if you are able to find one for cheap, it can be a cool toy to play around with. Creates very cozy photos.

I bought this camera brand new when it came out and it came everywhere with me. Once cameras on cell phones took over, this one got packed away. My 15 year old daughter is now talking about an "old" point and shoot she can carry around, and i dug around and found this guy. I've been adapting old M42 lenses to my Canon 5D Mk II, and I think thats sparked something for her too, so this video is perfect. Like, this is almost exactly like us. Thanks for sharing!

This camera blew up, mostly for its cool looks and ergonomics , but there is a treasure trove in the powershot series. The SD790is I have has a bigger screen, same or better features, and a metal frame.
Good light, lowest ISO, -1/3 to -1 exp comp, positive film profile - that’s when these give amazing results for me.

Pro tip! If you want the same looks and ergonomics, check out the ELPH 520 HS. It's a better camera all around. They are nearly identical dimensions but the 520 is 20g lighter. The 520 has a much better quality and slightly larger BSI CMOS sensor, Digic 5 processor, much more useful 12x (28mm-336mm) focal range, shoots 1080 24p video, 3200 max ISO, 1/4000s shutter and a way nicer screen. You can usually find them less than the SD1000 too. I have the red one, it's awesome IMO.

I remember shopping for a bridge camera way back in 2015 and I swear I've seen these old digital cameras just being thrown away at one point since the advancement of camera phones. That same model is now being sold in our local version of ebay for 70 to 100 USD if you don't mind a broken screen. 😵‍💫

My friend gave me his "bridge" camera but I got tired of carrying it since my phone often got nicer results. I've since gotten better at recognizing its strengths but that's for another time.
My phone kept running out of batteries when I wanted to use it for pictures, so I got a Canon SD750, your SD1000's no viewfinder cousin.
I've learned how to make its colors saturate nicely so as long as there is ample light, I get better results than the phone

-Canon PowerShot A2200 (Red) ''my original baby''
-Olympus FE-4010 (White) ''Very Good Condition''
-Canon IXUS 400 (aka Powershot S400) Silver color and same design as yours. ''My new Favorite 🥰''

I've been going apes**t with my Powershot for the past couple of weeks, and the combo of color noise reduction (set between 20-30 in Lightroom) and subtle sharpening makes ISO 400 look great, and some cases ISO 800 comes out OK.

I used to sell cameras and lenses on eBay I probably had well over a hundred Canon point and shoots. I used or tested every single one of them with an indoor test and an outdoor test before putting it up for sale. You name the model I've probably had it, almost every SD model and S model. The Canon sd1000 is a really good one but there are others that cost a forth as much that take just as good of pictures. Also there are numerous Canon S models like the s50 s60 x s70 s80s s90 etcetera. That all shoot raw and have a larger sensor size and usually cost a lot less than the sd1000. I think the secret to these cameras is knowing what settings to use and never go over 200 ISO and you can still get good shots you just have to be more careful. Almost all of these Canon cameras take great photos the ones that are between 4 and 10 megapixels especially. Paying $125 or more for a Canon sd1000 I think it's a little nuts. Yes if you can get one at a thrift store for 25 or 30 bucks go for it but a lot of these Canon S cameras you can buy a for 30 to 50 bucks or so they are a far superior camera in several ways.

I enjoyed your video. I think the issue with this particular model and other old digi-cams is every time there is a RUclips video on any particular model the E-Bay prices rise to a level that a person shouldn't purchase it. Luckily I have the Canons SD1100, SD1200, Power Shot Elph 180 and the Power Shot A85 (like new). Except for the 1100 and 1200 which I bought new. The other models I purchased for about $5 but I buy all my older digi-cams at thrift stores, garage sales, or getting some through family or friends. I have quite a collection of old digi-cams. My oldest is the Kodak Easy Share CR6200 that is a 2 megapixel. Best of luck in your photography journey.

Hello, I have a 3 pixel Sony camera. The camara take very nice photos during the day. At night it doesn't take good photos anyway. The memory card is rectangular, it is not the one we all use now. And it had very little capacity. And you could only record very short videos because the memory card was limited. But I remember that it was one of my first digital cameras and it took excellent photos during the day. Also the battery was double AA. The ones now use batteries exclusive to each model. I can use that camera with two double AA batteries even now in 2024. That's wonderful.

Hello friends, how are you? I am a photography enthusiast, but I am not obsessed with cameras, lenses or technicalities. I love photography and to portray images that resemble the reality we see, I have my main camera, however, I am fascinated by the possibility that photography offers us to explore "other realities", thanks to its characteristics, weaknesses, etc.,. To explore those "other dimensions", I love to use cameras from the early 2000's and take advantage of their weaknesses, thanks to noise, focus errors, etc and see how they interpret what they see. I'm following several options and this SD1000 is one of the ones I might be interested in...and also the IXUS 400 which apparently has the same sensor and processor as the PowerShot G2 and G3, and its behavior in terms of color science and ISO treatment is very similar. Maybe the IXUS 400 is more suited to what I need, which is a "rougher" image, less refined...and maybe being older and closer to the analog era, the color reference makes the IXUS 400 closer to the point-and-shoot disposable film cameras. I don't know what you think about it. Greetings from the Mediterranean coast 😊

As a 32y old person this video made me feel so old...😢😂 digicams for my generation were not our parents cameras... they were our "modern" cameras while our parents were still shooting film.
P.S. also I remember hating the resolution and quality of the photos and videos that came from that cameras compared to the results our parents had with their film cameras. But we were just kids or teens and didn't want to spend the money on film so digicams were always on our pokets ready to shoot a free photo.

I recently saw a video on RUclips debunking the whole high megapixel need for digital camera where someone worked out that if you just like to view your photos on a highend apple laptop you only need a camera with around a 5 megapixel sensor and for a four k screen around 8 megapixel recently I decided to take up my old hobbie of photography after a break of 19 years back in my time 35 mm ruled and digital cameras were first starting to appear and now it's all digital apart from Polaroids and disposable cameras being on a budget I got a very basic agfa for about £50.00 some people call it a kids toy in the reviews for the camera but yet the camera has a 5 megapixel sensor which is good enough to view photos on a highend laptop and that tech was on high end compact cameras 15 years ago

Ow... This camera replaces my old Canon A90, which I particularly loved because it had the Manual option, but it still had the ability to control the shutter time. But the big advantage over mine was the size and the exclusive battery, which gave much more autonomy. The photo quality is great, for that time, I took a lot of impressive photos, and it's perfect for traveling, small and simple.... Today they no longer manufacture cameras with this construction quality, which was made of aluminum.

Dont overpay for this camera just because a RUclipsr says it's cool lol. It's got a terrible lens and a tiny sensor. If you want an SD series camera, you are much better off with the SD500 with a better lens and a larger 1/1.8" sensor. Better yet, look for an SD900, which is the Canon Powershot G7 in an SD body. The 950IS, which is the G9, or the 990IS, which is the G10. All much better cameras than the SD1000.

      @ThePhotographersStone 9 месяцев назад +19

I agree if you were buying for specs, but people are buying this camera for how it makes them feel and the very square body is unique when everything else is rounded. I think most people are not buying it for its output. They're buying it for its physical aesthetic. I actually had about four of these and resold them on eBay because of the price. But aside from the price, it's pretty fun to use when you want something enough price doesn't matter. So paying $100, give or take for this isn't so bad if you really want it. It's like buying a Leica.

This model is the same size of a credit card. Aside from that, it's junk. The sd1000 has a 1/2.5" sensor which is 50% smaller than alot of other similar size cameras like the canon s95 which is probably the best and last ccd camera with an f2 lens and 10mp. Stay away from the sd1000. It is pretty, but that is it.
