If you want the same aesthetics and ergonomics, check out the ELPH 520 HS/IXUS 500 HS. It's a better camera all around. They are nearly identical dimensions but the 520 is 20g lighter. The 520 has a much better quality and slightly larger BSI CMOS sensor, Digic 5 processor, image stabilization, much more useful 12x (28mm-336mm) focal range, shoots 1080 24p video, 240fps slow motion, 3200 max ISO, 1/4000s shutter and a way nicer screen. You can usually find them less than the SD1000 too. I have the red one, it's awesome IMO.

    • @MGraslund
      @MGraslund 4 дня назад

It’s not better, it’s just much more modern. The SD 1000 can do Raw with just a soft mode, that’s not possible with the Ixus 500 HS

It's also marketed as IXUS70 which I have and it's just so cool to have it. Purchased it in a heartbeat in 2011 and still looks fancy to this day.

Oh my goodness, I bought that camera brand new back in 2007 or 2008 when it first came out, and I still have it! I'm fairly certain it still works, and now I'm super excited to charge the bettery and start using it again!
Yes- I loved how small it was... even the battery charger is small like... a nightlight! 😂
And dude, if you hadn't said a thing about being in your bsmt, I never would have KNOWN!!! Keep up with the videos 👍

I also have a purchased-as-new SD1000 and I absolutely love it. Never stopped using it. I sometimes get teased for still using such a device these days and not "joining modern civilization" for taking pictures with a cell phone, other than my cell is a Light Phone 2 . . . which doesn't have a camera.
The other part of this story is I bought an iMac new in 2007, within months of getting the SD1000. It's no longer my primary computer, but I rebuilt it myself a few years ago with much more RAM (no soldered-in memory chips back then) and a solid state hard drive (which Apple wouldn't authorize their repair people to install.)
I don't run this computer online, since nobody makes a browser for Mac OS of that period that is secure, but I use it with a vintage copy of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator, back when you could buy this software outright and not have to rent it by the month.) I use dongles for SD cards and USB thumb drives, like show in this video, to move printable files to my "modern" laptop to print or share my images online.

I had a number of digital cameras prior to the smartphone explosion in the early 2000s. I got rid of all of them in favor of using a smartphone for most of my photography. Now I'm browsing RUclips and it's come to my attention that old school digital cameras are coming back in popularity - and the prices are going up! I haven't been able to find a good working digital camera in any thrift shops near me for a while now. I guess it's true that everything eventually comes back in popularity.

They’re really good cameras. If you can be bothered with the hassle, you can add CHDK firmware and shoot raw photos, and have the camera do motion detection. I bought a second one and take 3D photos with this setup. Video capability is primitive in case that is something you care about.

  • @dct124

People are realizing grain, noise, moire, etc. is actually art.
The most expensive images on the planet are 90% moment & composition, and 10% IQ.
Modern day photographers seem to be on the opposite spectrum, 90% IQ and 10% moment & composition.
What makes thing's worse imo. It's living in the US. The buildings today in America are ugly as hell. They're all essentially just boxes or jails if we're being honest.

A friend who was born around 2000 told me that these digicams take photos that look like a memory for them. I think that says it all - the iPhone makes a good image, but for twentysomethings who are tired of using their phone and want some nostalgic vibes, these digicams are perfect.
I love using them and I am NOT in my twenties. Haha. Solid video!

You have not discovered the SD100 until you run CHDK on it. I have ithe SD1000 and with CHDK you can shoot in raw with it and it made a huge diffrence with how I can edit the raw files with it. The original jpegs from it are highly compressed and very little room to edit them.

Good video! I currently shoot with a Canon S100 and am looking for a bit older, simpler camera to compliment it. Seems that the SD1000 is great. I'm also seeing the SD800 as an awesome alternative to it. With the 1000 and 800 being damn near equal, the 800 has a wider focal length at 28mm (35mm equiv) compared to the 1000's 35mm and it also has Image Stabilization. The only drawback to the SD800 would be the slightly larger physical size and slightly less resolution on the screen. All in all, both look like fun cameras. Seems there are a ton of options from that era from Canon. Thanks.

I picked up one a long time back. I have the box and stuff but have no idea where in the house it is. I really want to find it. I was buying a variety of ELPH cameras for $10 to a max of $25 for a few years just because they were cute and I liked them. I have serious gear, but even in my film days, I enjoyed playing around with toy and simple cameras just for fun.

Thats expensive for a 17 year old camera that was selling for under $50 a year ago. Most quality cameras around 2005 are useable and will take great pics. This camera was expensive new and was very much a designer camera for people who enjoy looking good in all aspects. It came out just after the Contax TVS digital and was aimed at the same market. 7.1 is way beyond most people's MP needs. It has a quality lens, which is more important. The $50 SD100 is long gone. People are buying and using them as a fashion statement and you can't put a price on that.
