I work at an E Waste (electronic waste) recycling facility and I see old cameras come in all the time, some are broken, lenses smashed, battery door broke off etc , but an Olympus Tough TG 810 came in so I took it home and found out the battery was dead, so I simply ordered a new one off of Amazon and presto 😎 old is new again! A little off topic but a co worker of mine built a makeshift home stereo from the facility too, Sony amp, Panasonic speakers and a JVC 5 disc CD player 🎉
That's a great find, good for you! The story sounds to me like, there is a retro tech dealer start-up coming right up, hehe! Thank you for watching and sharing your story!
You're right. These old(er) digicams are a really neat way to practise your composition skills, without thinking too much about the 'quality' of the end result. Every now and then they produce a really good image, but they always capture memories if you're with friends and family, so just have some fun.
Cool made video and I totaly agree with you. Have a tiny collection of digicams and use them. Most times for landscape photo walks. My first was the Lumix LS3. I bought it in 2007 for testing digital photography. It still works until now and I have fun using digicams :-). With greetings from lower Bavaria.
Wow! I was so surprised to see the city I live in featured in regards to this topic, once everything quietens down and people become less suspicious of everything I hope to resume this hobby
Another great video! Definitely some great advice and points. I've been doing landscape and woodland mostly, but might have to check these out for some street photography.
After finishing this great video, I scrolled down to the comments section to see what other people's thoughts are. I was shocked to see only 1 other comment and 670 subscribers. Great video quality SMK, keep it up!
Two weeks ago I took out my old Olympus C-2100UZ from its box and shot a few pictures. It was fun! I miss those tones, colours and shades! For three years I took pictures with smartphone (Samsung S9 and Xiaomi 11T), and now I'm going back to cameras, to my trusty Olympus XZ-1 and XZ-2. These are light years better than any phone. The XZ-1's sensor is a CCD, it is better for street photography. Smartphone is comfortable, because it's always in your pocket, but really sucks for photography IMO.
Hey Alex, great photos, I love the colors from some of these digicams! Also, the video quality is fantastic, great job with the editing and presenting.
I really enjoyed your video. I have collected many older digi-cams like: Nikon, Canon, Kodak, Olympus, Samsung, Casio. I think you offered wise advice on trying to find old digi-cams from family, garage sales, thrift stores, etc because that is where it appears a person will find the best value. A person may find a particular model on E-Bay but what I have found is every time there's a RUclips video about an old camera the prices on E-Bay goes up and a lot of times the camera is over priced. Best of luck in your photography journey. Best Duane
Thanks! Yeah, you definitely can turn that off. But don't get your expectations too high, the lens is pretty dark on this one, but the form factor is one of my favorites!
Everyone needs to be aware these cameras with permanent zooms tend to suck dust back onto the sensor when the zoom closes back in or when the camera is turned off. A quick test is take a pic of the sky completely zoomed in. You'll see it fast. Dark worms. So, keep your camera inside something that's dust and lint free when you travel, and wipe off the sides of the zoom fully extended before you turn it off. Fingers are fine. And the camera you want is the Canon Elph 310. It has an 8x optical zoom, i.b.i.s., 12 meg pics, great macro. I interposed shots using the Elph in my short film noir along with my main camera, a Canon 5D Mark II, mostly for moving camera shots, and no one has ever noticed it. No One. Here's the film: Bum Rap Andre Hunt
Rather than rely on old technology i prefer to buy modern budget Digi cams as they tend to mix old tech with new tech which is why they cost as little as £50 you won't get names like sony or canon as most of them are Chinese makes except for the Kodak and agfa model and it will be brand new and last for a quite few years if You look after it and some even come with 2 rechargeable batteries instead of just one as an extra bonus
@Alex_SMK how were they edited? Do they come out like the other cameras photos? I'm asking because I bought it off of ebay because of this video. I didn't realize they were edited.
@yahwarr7464 I believe I used Snapseed in combination with the basic adjustments in the native phone gallery app. Straight out of camera, the photos come out pretty much like most of the CCD digicam's photos - good enough just like that. But since I don't use them for anything serious, I like to experiment with editing here and there. I'm sure it will be alright👌
Sounds like a lens/autofocus issue. Probably the only way to fix it is to replace the lens unit altogether. Which in most cases doesn't make sense financially.
How do you get that type of image out of a Optio Z10? I picked one up for almost free the other day and would love to be able to make pictures like that :0
It's the quick preset during the import in Capture One. Just make or find something you like and make it a default one when importing the photos from the camera. Luckily, there are a lot of creators sharing their presets these days, so there is a plenty to choose from, hehe. I was just having fun with this particular camera, since I love the sliding door ones.
@@Alex_SMK Awesome, thank you so much! Its so much fun experimenting with the camera, the sliding door is also super fun :) Cant believe you're only at 1k subscribers, your videos are awesome and well edited! Definitely subscribing :)
It is funny, you talk as if it is a new idea well, I have always used a digital camera. I use a Canon PowerPoint ELPH 190 IS. In my opinion my photos are superior then those taken with a smart phone.
I probably conveyed it somehow differently, giving out the wrong impression. It is not new, you're absolutely correct on this one. And I agree on the smartphone bit as well (for now at least)
One thing to keep in mind, you not gonna learn photography using an old digi cam, you will just get frustrated with the limitations you will face. Digi cam are fun for someone who is already comfortable with photography and what to experiment with what kind of results you can achieve with the gear limitations. One Month 2 Cameras is a bad example, she suffers from GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome) but her photographic skills are not up to par with her theoretic knowledge of cameras. She is simply more of a camera collector than a photographer… My advise if you want to learn photography: buy a half decent camera body and an decent lens and invest time and money in learning the proper skills at first. If you have a modern cellphone, you already have a much more capable camera than any of the few years old point and shoot digital cams.

If that’s the case throw in rx1 and canon gx series… side not.. have old digi cams… cannot stand them… better of buying and old lumix g1f/x or Olympus pen with a small pancake.. better sensor better everything similar size
