Finally, Jordan, you came out with the video. I have been waiting for your opinion because I value it the most. To me, you are an honest and you tell like it is whether it’s good or bad. Keep up the great work.
THANK you so much! That really means a lot to me and worth all of the hard work to make this video for you guys! The auto settings really help since ND filter footage can be so hot or miss with GoPro's. I really love the new macro personally 👍 Have fun with your new Hero 13!
If you are getting that additional battery time that feels a bit minimal on the 13, is that with GPS on the 13 turned on or off? Just to compare Apples with Apples.
Hey brother just wanted to say love to video. It was really easy to follow and just was simple. I often have trouble finding the differences between the new products when it seems the specs are similar if not the same. By far the best explanation I have seen so far.
Thank you so much brother! I'm happy I was able to show you the differences in a way that made sense. It's easy to get carried away with all of the specs so I hope I was able to show you what really matters 👍
Excellant video Jordan, especially the breakdown between the two cameraa. I love GoPro and I buy every other year. I expected a big upgrade this season but I will wait for next September.,
Great review! It's true, we complained about the lack of GPS in the 12 but that's about the only reason why I would get the 13. The accessories do not impress me in any way. The only useful lens is the wide angle one even if it is still unexplainably limited in settings compared to the standard lens: still no HDR, no Real Speed/Half Speed setting in Max Video and Max Timewarp. The Media Mod is still limited by design and I still cannot change battery when the gopro freezes, overheats or drains it without removing any screw from the folding finters. They could have made a media mod with its own legs or magnetic ones, but no, they made a bunch of expensive rarely used lenses. The magnetic door is nice but not 80 euro nice when the usb door costs 16 euro with a cable included. They gave too much importance to these accessories. I eventually got the 12 for some of the new features but the lack of GPS has made it a crippled camera when travelling. So I would get the 13 only bundled with free accessories and at a discount, subscriber discount. Since the 13 is the 4th camera with the GP2 processor, I expect GoPro to bring a newer processor next year. Hopefully they will keep some compatibilities with all the new accessories and batteries. Hopefully they will soon bring a Max 2 camera with GPS included, otherwise I will move to Insta 360 x4 or newer for sure.
I agree that even though the Hero 13 produces high quality video, GoPro is lacking in the innovation department. They definitely could be doing more. The new Hero 13 wide angle lens is the same as the Max Lens Mod 2.0 for the 12, except that it auto-detects. The Hero 13 does have HLG HDR now though. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!
So the battery for the 12 is compatible with the 11, 10 & 9. Does this mean go pro will stop suppling those batteries since the 13 battery is a different battery? and if they stop suppling the battery will they stop the firmware updates and the support of the 12? A first time Go Pro buyer here. Trying to decide between the two. I don't want to buy something that will be obsolete next year. Also, there is a 50 piece kit for both cameras available on a VERY popular on-line product supplier, is that 50 piece kit worth the money?
Yeah, flat profile and edit colors etc in post makes a huge difference. Though the newer video profiles in the 12/13 and 10bit do look nice but not a selling point. If I was to upgrade from my 8 its mainly for a better battery to hold up in colder conditions (ski hills etc) and maybe better low light
I mean the audio improvement alone is a nice feature to have. I have been using the 9 but am considering upgrading to the 13 because it's definitely a lot of improvements when jumping that many versions
Do you ever have issues with the waterproofing door? I had 2 get water damage back at around 8 and 9 series. Ever since then I’ve thrown them in the waterproof case but I’d much prefer to use without Thoughts? 🤔
I haven't had any issues and I use them in the water all the time, even in big waves and sand-filled shorebreak. I personally never use the protective housing, but I wouldn't want to steer you in the wrong direction.
I’ve just been using my iPhone 13 max pro camera. Great camera but now that I want to start traveling/vlogging I’m really interested in the GoPro. So pricey! But gotta invest. Might as well get the latest model GoPro 13. Thanks for the video comparison!
Nice video. Subscribed. I have the 12. I’m happy with it. I know it’s unrelated but I wish you would do a video on how you organized your home page. The different sections.
Standard camera bundle on hero 13 costs $399.99 . To complete the bundle with extra battery, protection case, travel Case and magnetic mount increases it’s price. 😏Very disappointing.
I would go with the Hero 13 since you are just starting, especially since it's a new battery design. That way, if you upgrade in the future, hopefully, the battery will still be compatible.
Thanks for asking. That's a great question! Going from the Hero 11 Mini to the new Hero would actually quite a downgrade. It only has a 12MP sensor and records 4k @ 30fps. If you don't need the back screen, you are much better off with the 11 Mini.
Great video! I have the 9. It does the job. Very disappointed in the battery change, the endouro batt is great. i used it last winter and is light years better then the very old hero 4! lol So Hero 4 silver which i still have, 9 Black my 2nd hero and now to up upgrade or not? i am a subscriber. Happy with the new Quick for Mac. Funny how they just dropped 13 to 349 for me now i do not get the 100 off? 😂 In the long run the 13 would be great to have and slowly add the lenses as my skills and usage increase. I notice in lots of vs vids i watched the sky in always bluer with the 12, i assume on auto setting. why? i do tweak my settings on the 9 for skiing and it works well. i shoot lots of POV with the pole mount. the 8:4 on the 12 would be a nice add vs the 9 difference. winter is coming. gopro sometimes run big deals before Xmas. we will see. ill report back. thanks again for reviews. love the fact you get to the point in this production.
It really depends on how you use it. If you record with it up on a mount, this will minimize overheating. However, if you record in high resolution at a high frame rate with it sitting flat on a surface, it will overheat.
I purchased the Hero12 at a really great price from the military exchange for only $299.00 compared to the 13 which was $439 and no extra accessories. I would say just go with the 12 bundle there is basically no difference, save some money.
Thank you Jordan this clears up my questions perfectly. I film at 25fps in 4K so if I want the same processor and sensor I can buy a GoPro 10 or a new GoPro 11 with a ‘enduro’ battery. Not sure why GoPro has a standard battery. Oh yes. I don’t use the gps but the 10 has that too lol. Nicely presented and the information was perfect :)
Thank you, yes in the resolution and frame rate, you are good with a 10 or 11! I think GoPro just has a standard battery because they had that before the Enduro battery was developed. Why they still sell it, I'm not sure!
My first GoPro was the Hero 4. I'm currently using a Hero 10 Black. If needed my next will be a GoPro 12 or wait for the 14. As for the 13 it's not much of a New and Improved camera and I don't need all the accessories.
The side-by-side pic of the 12 & 13...reminds me that when the 12 launched, GoPro specifically highlighted the damn SPECKLES...like that was a noteworthy "update/upgrade" & selling point 😂 They quickly abandoned that didn't they?? Lol!
I do have the 12 and I just ordered the 13. The reason being is I like to use ND filters and now that the 13 can do all the settings on its own that that was one of the main reasons I got it. I know that some people that may be a dumb reason but to me, it’s kind of big.
I ordered 13 and will start shooting soon. But I have a question when I upload a test video on RUclips the quality is only 1080p I don't know how to make it 4K
Great! RUclips will automatically recognize the video resolution, so just make sure to upload a 4k video. Then, in the RUclips viewers, in the settings, you will have to choose to view it in 4k. Hope that helps!

I bought the 12, my footage recently went into high speed mode during playback, I was unable to play it back at normal speed, also several videos will not playback when using Go Pro Player, i bought this camera specifically for use underwater , I'm currently filming around Australia and all the footage from my last location cannot be used. I also have the 7 Black which has never let me down . The Hero 12 will stay in my camera bag and when i get back to the next major city i will request a full refund. I also had to pay a subscription to enable stabilization on playback which is an absolute rip off. Gopro 12 will be the last GoPro camera I purchase, time to move on. I also have DJI Products , never had an issue with any DJI product.
