Track 26: "Last Battle"
My Cave Story recomp OST project. I have all of the tracks mostly mixed and mastered. I'm going to try and finish the final touches on every track sequentially, and release one every day. When I'm done I'll add a link for the OST in it's entirety fully tagged.
This all started when the Wii version came out, and I was speed-running Hell. I became frustrated (like ya do) and decided to switch over to the Wii music to see what Running Hell sounded like. Like every one of the new songs it was rather atrocious. Did they even try?!? So I decided to do my own remake of the OST. I started with Running Hell, and kinda never stopped.
You'll notice I didn't do too much "remixing" of the existing material, because let's face it... The OST was near sonic perfection as-is... I did what I felt at the time, and I'm rather pleased with how it all played out. You'll also notice there are no fade-outs. I don't do fade-outs. They've always made songs sound unfinished to me.

This fight, man, this fight. I remember thanking the stars that Misery was in this fight, because all those Critters (the hopping things) she summons? Those things are absolute gold for farming ammo and health. I seriously don't think I would've stood a chance if not for her.

i remember that my health went down pretty much but thanks for her critters i was able to get healths and exp points
my computer freezed for a bit due to the epicness of this song.
the time i fought the last boss i was like "haha this is going to be easy" but then i saw misery "misery is in this fight?" then i saw sue "oh man im dead XD" the they turns in to a monster "... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" the skull face appears the doctor " you're not leaving this place alive!" me "aww man im sooooo dead!!"

The most satisfying thing I've ever done, KILL THIS BOSS WITH THE LEVEL 3 BLADE. Holy crap, when I did that I literally stood up and shouted "*YES!*" Some people would prefer the nemesis, but IDK it just feels wrong to do that to King. What makes that less impressive though was because it was on easy, then AGAIN I was using the machine gun and had only 14 health at the start and still won. THANK YOU HEALTH DROPS AND KING!

UmbreonFlash You mean with the Blade? Yeah, you probably are. But I think most people can do that.
KirbyLuigi Despite CaveStory's twisted logic, it would be great idea if his blade could do extra damage to the core.

@@markjackson5628 The Core was ridiculous because of all those projectiles that happen to do EXACTLY 3 damage in a game where you have 3 lives.
I always make sure I kill Misery first.
I save her for last because she can drop health items from her little annoying-ass critters and bats (and the fish missiles)

This is before Dark Souls even existed. This fight whooped my ass harder than a souls boss.
amazing. The subtlety of this remix really speaks to your respect for the original material. Instead of being overdone, this remix enhances the original in every way. Bravo.

Didn't king want the world rid of evil. Or did he simply hate the doctor?
The reason the doctor done this was because the demon crown helped control the rabid mimigas
So king would technically hate the demon crown. But wouldn't he hate who.was to create the demon crown.
Ballos made the demon crown. Though misery wanted it. Ballos chose to make it.
So king would hate ballos.
I finished off ballos with the king's ghost projectile.
I only had 37 health, and I had the machine gun. But I did it.

Ive been waiting for this one for awhile from you. for a second i thought that you would never release this track. The only downside......the epic battle distracts me from the epic music.

You never beat the Sacred Grounds, didn't you.
At the end of the battle, she comes back to normal, so it's not like she actually died :3 Also, she is the easiest of the three to kill. And it's easier to focus on attempting to kill the Core without her distracting you
One tiny thing that bothers me is...why do bullets kill Toroko but merely "Purify" Sue? I mean, I get that she's a little bit of a special case not being a "normal" Mimiga and being transformed with the red CRYSTAL instead of a normal red flower, but....
What the eff?
I mean, its not even like Quote is holding back or "not aiming" for her vitals or anything like that because Toroko went down. Every other Frenzied Mimiga went down and we THOUGHT "oh, maybe they'll turn back!" but they DON'T.
@Tacoradical Ah, sorry, I think I was feeling a bit annoyed, but I realized I didn't want to argue with anyone and tried to ease up on it. I still ended up being too negative though, so I apologize for that.
Anyway, just to clear things up, Satori's power actually is to read hearts (it's in her bio), but for some reason this often gets interpreted as a mind-reading ability. Probably because it's a bit difficult to convey it properly.

Christ, It took me awhile to get past the doctors second form, I beat it with 1 hp and thought I was done. Then this shit goes down.... Used my life potion on something stupid along time ago...
I also have the snake and the Blade.....those look like theyre terrible for this fight, fuck me
well, the way i go, the missile launcher just gets in the way when im swapping weapons, so i never pick it up. i skip all the missile chests entirely. i kill him with the level 3 blade. i only pick up the weapons necessary to the game, then upgrade to the spur.
monster X isnt that bad if your going into the fight with full health, and a lot of rockets, i find it easy to beat with bubbler (i think its called Bubble Line in cavestory+) but thats just me, it just takes time and practice is all (fought monster x like ... 8 times cause i kept screwing up jumps)
i honestly dislike monster x. hes one of the hardest. in fact, on a mod of cave story i played (lost land), you dont get the blade till after the monster x battle D: all the other bosses are easy, including ballos! but not monster x

@MAJORGAMER123 and thats how everyone reacts to that boss the first time lol, but to be honest, this "boss" is a push over ... compared to the one residing in a certain sacred place. if you know what i mean
@mrpeanut134 That is a good explanation, actually. I've always felt some sort of subconscious connection between ZUN and Pixel, but I couldn't quite figure out why, so this situation was weird to me. Now I understand.

@DeluxeGamer123 You know, there's this amazing invention we call "A Volume Control." You should try turning it up. Ok, jokes aside, you can turn up the volume, but don't forget to turn it back down before you enter the Home Menu... I learned that lesson the hard way...
the beam is from the spur, a weapon you get by giving the hermit back his Polar star which you stole at the start, so ... no you cant get the spur if you got the machine gun
@SaiSatori Oh. I thought you meant Satori as in Touhou. I always see names and comments as references to other games, usually being correct. This isn't one of those times.
@zackattack50ful When you first fight this boss, though- particularly after going through a gauntlet of 3 other bosses with no saves and only 8 HP recovery (unless you farm for hearts during the first fight)- it CAN be quite a bout.
...Whoever was doing the gameplay for this missed an important fact:
Misery only retaliates if you hit her, and Sue is easy to avoid.
ONLY attack the core, the battle is much easier on your missile reserve this way.
Ah, shut up. This is 10x better than any other last battle remix. Even the Cave Story+ last battle kinda took the epic feeling away- this remix hit spot on

I've tested this theory on the PC version, you're probably hitting misery by accident due to how close she stays to the undead core's hitbox. Or they might've changed it in the wii or 3DS versions...

Ballos's fourth phase is hard because so much is going and you get so focused on killing him that you neglect your HP and get killed just when you realize to use the life pot.

@Titan360 Well, remember, that red crystal stuff is much stronger. She probably only took enough damage to knock her out, not kill her.

These were y exact words the first time I played this...followed by the game over song because you know...I had like 10 hp left...
Kill misery first, as she can spawn missiles, or don't kill any of them at all (killing them is not required to beat the battle)
i got the real last boss the undead core and ballos all 3 forms in the same room and the black wind comes with the army of pits

Nope. You need the Polar Star and then you take it to the Hermit Gunsmith after you return to the Mimiga Village.

@z0mbiedoctor I used the Machine Gun myself. Not as powerful, but much more utilitarian if you can keep it at lv3.

It's useful for charging up the Missile Launcher in Hell, it'll break the EXP capsules.

but misery missile attack can give you some ammo and health
