As someone who lives in Florida it really makes me respect how parks like Disney/Universal keep their stuff clean and maintained for the most part without an offseason
@@Pippe42exactly, maybe it was just because I was really young, but even watching videos, I can’t find a single flaw. Today, though, the fountains hardly ever work, and I went 2 weeks after the park’s opening day, the scent was already nonexistent. Gruffalo is a testament to how chessington used to be a lot better, like when samurai at Thorpe used to be there, it went so fucking fast it was wild, but now it’s at Thorpe and so boring. Chessington used to live up to its title of being wild while also being the best Merlin main attraction for younger kids, but now it’s started to go downhill
I really want to visit this park to experience Vampire and Mandrill Mayhem as well as riding The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure as i read this book at my work all the time to the children and is one of my favourite books and this ride just looks awsome so would be so cool to get on and see!
winter season for normal theme parks: a time when we invest in the upkeeps for our rides and to make sure they're safe, so that they can be open for the start of the season. winter season for merlin: it's a nice holiday
So are Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, lego land and some others just exceptions to that rule? Or did you not see the increased improvements for this year? Seems Chessington is being miss managed or got the brown end of the stick for the others to be held up. Not to mention the new pavement that got placed down, and thats not cheap.
I used to go to Chessington every year for my birthday as a child. I haven't been back in over ten years. Its a real shame that it looks in desperate need of some TLC that it just hasn't had much of. It has such potential to be an incredible experience and they aren't optimising it. But thank you for being so honest in your experiences!
I am glad to see today that Thorpe Park recognised your value on facebook with a nice comment. This is good to see as for many many years, theme parks fans have struggled to be taken seriously by the parks. Im glad things are changing, as a lot of people watch youtube vlogs solely now, and in my opinion, yours is the best. I also think its SO GOOD to see B&M doing kid's rides, as really why not? Kid's now get to experience the mercedes benz of coasters.
I was here yesterday 😊 I went on mandrio mayhem and vampire they were super fun even tho I waited 1 hour for mandrio mayhem 😂 massive queue lol but big w for water ride
I've been to UK (from Texas) a lot over the years, and I've never been to this park. Yet. I've done Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, and Flamingo Land. I love that dark ride at this park. Unique dark rides are the best.
Hey there Shawn and Charlotte it’s a shame that LegoLand submarine ride is closed for the hole year because that ride is so popular they and not good for chessington some rides closed and like you said Shawn that some rides are not ready for start of the season but have a great day today I love you Shawn and Charlotte xxxx
As I’m going there tomorrow I thought I would watch this video and it is great to have a great look at there rides as I was only there last march! So I think you and there rides will be great tomorrow!
We’ve only been to Chessington once when we had Merlin annual passes a couple of years ago and didn’t go on anything because nothing really looked worth the massive queues. The whole park looked a bit run down and not appealing. We are going this May with our little boy for his 2nd birthday and Legoland the next day so hopefully he will like it. It’s useful to know which rides have single rider because we might take a turn on Mandrill each and give that a go.
Cheers for another Chessington vlog, looks really disappointing with ride availability, need to let people 100% know whats open and whats closed a few days before visit, not last minute like on day, as people otherwise waste a journey from say other side of UK to ride a certain specific ride thats turns out to be closed on the day or duration of their visit. Its out of order & unfair. 100% need to be more informative 100% on website and with signs in park. Remember when Gruffalo was Bubble works, with Imperial Leather. Would like to see it return in future, was a good ride to experience on a day out. Love Vampire ride, hoping to experience it this year again, before either sadly a removal or hopefully a retrack. If retracked? Would love to see more theming structures added surrounding it, bridges via path interactions, more trees and plants, blood waterfalls maybe? and just more to see & do in queue line? Such a good coaster, also like to see Black Supports & Purple Track or opposite, aswell maybe a few more turns added? Maybe more tunnels etc? But I guess well see? But nice vlog, enjoyed and look forward to Thorpe Park Resort vlog. 😀👍
I Haven't been to Chessington since i was at college. I remember riding the Bubble works that was there when i heard it was closing i was upset and i went back to Chessington to ride it one last time and not been back since. I love watching you're videos from all the different parks and other stuff keep up the good work
I love that your going around all of the Merlin parks and showing us all that has happened over the closed seasons, it really allows us to know what’s going on in the parks if we can’t visit it ourselves 👍🏼😆🙏
We were there yesterday too - first time in 25 years that I’ve been and wasn’t disappointed. Fantastic nostalgia! I did see you guys and approached you, but you seemed a bit distracted. Would be great to bump into you again someday and have a chinwag ✌🏼
Have to say that I am disappointed that the virtual queuing has gone from MM. We can only visit at peak times and the kids just wont queue for long periods of time so I will now be left forking out for Fast Tracks 😞
It was great to meet you in Adventure Point, after we had done Vampire and Mandrill back row, we went back to Vampire and then did Mandrill again (row 4 left side). We never got on Dragon's Fury because it closed whenever we queued for it.
I understand every park has its challenges, but it is disappointing how Chessington haven’t been able to offer a near full lineup for many years now. It needs to change.
I went on pass holder day and I’m so glad with what they have done to mandrill mayhem. Getting rid of the virtual queue and adding those air gates really boosted capacity. Sadly, dragons fury was closed. They were just sending it around the block sections.
Its kind of crazy that given how many rides need a makeover, like Vampire, Toomb Blaster, and Scorpiun, they are just making over the floors and walls in places. They have a lot of work to do to compete with the new Universal Park on the way!
i remember bubble works! Use to love popping the bubbles in the one area of the ride where they had them and sticking my hand in those water arches to make the rest of my family wet haha :P And vampire holds a place in my heart
The World of Jumanji is looking really good, will be nice to see it in summer when the plants have grown a bit more. Nice to see such a good area and mix of rides for families, this was a very good investment for this park.
The later portion of Pipeline, at SeaWorld Orlando has a bit of a rattle as well. It doesn’t ruin the ride or anything but It is totally odd for B&M to not rectify that issue. We’ll see if the new Busch Gardens Tampa invert also suffers from the same issue. Do you happen to know if the steel for all B&M’s are manufactured in Ohio or do they have another fabricator for their European and/or Asia installations?
Yeah when I went last October I got in the queue for Dragons Fury and it went down. I remember the staff trying to turn a key in a lock but it wasnt working so itll be something electrical
I was at Thorpe park today (spotted you guys a couple of times) and the ride availability was shocking. We were in the Swarm queue for over an hour, we were in the air gates and then it closed because of ‘inclement weather’ despite the fact that all the other 4 big coasters kept operating. It was a joke today and it looks like it was the same at chessington!
This is one of my childhood parks and I was able to visit past year for the first time in a while. I do miss Bubbleworks and it's catchy music. Dragon's Fury is my favourite ride there
I Absolutely Love Chessington"s New Season That Is The Best Vlog I Ever Seen And I'm Finally Happy That Mandrill Mayhem Had Got Rid Of The Virtual Queue (:
I like what they did with the passes, it really shows that they care about there customers experiences, it looks a beautiful park as well, well done Chessington and also Shawn and Charlotte for your continuous stream of amazing content. 😊
I felt exactly the same after our very 1st rides this week, wasnt expecting to feel sick on this coaster, very strange. My lad enjoyed his 1st upside-down coaster but not something i can re ride time after time with him, I thought it was because it goes backwards as I'm not a huge fan going backwards on a coaster but maybe not if others feel it also 😮
My Daughter always feels a little sick after riding Mandrill. I think it's the long slow inversion that does it, but not me. I love the ride. Especially on the rear facing seats
I'm going for the first time next week and you guys are always my go to for theme parks. I love seeing your reaction and getting loads of information. I can't wait for next week now I'm so excited, thankyou for an amazing video yet again ❤
I’m the same as Charlotte with feeling sick on mandrel! I’m fine with all other rides. I find the last row a bit better than all the rest of the forward facing rows but you can’t always choose.
Hi guys great vlog . I have never been to Chessington world of adventure. I always thought it was more for children but looks like it has some big rides. Sorry to see a lot of rides were down bad as Blackpool. You would of thought they would be more prepared for opening day. Shame. Look forward to your next vlog . Take care.
Enjoyed the vlog. Not been to this Park but it looks good and the theming is fab. I'd be so disappointed too if there were that many rides and refreshment areas closed, it's just not on ! but the priority passes are a great idea. The outdoor show looked bright and colourful 👍
I know that "feeling" with Mandrill but it doesn't bother me! It's still one of my favourite rollercoasters of the big three parks: Legoland, Chessington, Thorpe Park.
What you said about feeling sick on mayhem is interesting! It's been a long time since I've been to Chessington but I've actually avoided galatica at alton towers because I've heard it makes many people very sick!

Was nice to see you there tho Other than that I had a good day. Was strange to go on an opening day (first ever time doing an opening day for the season). I would too, I cannot use lying down ones, it’s cos you going backwards. Your inner ear fluid sensitivity etc. It makes me feel sick for hours, I hate it so I don’t go on anything that spins or goes backwards.
With Tomb blaster, they hadn’t managed to get the system ready as they have had to remake the entire system which wasn’t needed until the end of January. According to a mate of mine who is a ride op they had an option save scorpion to get ready for the year and loose tomb blaster or leave scorpion linger and try and save tomb. I think they done the right decision however I do know how frustrating rides not being open for opening day is.
I love chessington, it’s our nearest park and we go a lot. But I think they’re the worst for ride closures and tomb blaster always seems to be closed or broken down. We’ve been stuck on tomb blaster 4 times. I also don’t understand why they’re closed over February half term. It just seems odd especially when Legoland, which is a much bigger park is open
I think I know why Mandrill Mayhem makes people feel nauseous. My Dad went on it once and loved it! He gets sick easy on rides that go backwards and spin. Then the second time he sat nearer the back so he went higher up the track when you launch backwards. I think the weird sensation triggers your body but it’s a great ride anyway!
Just a secret tip that if you rent an Airbnb in Oxshott, you won't hear the screaming people on the rides at night and yet you are only a 5 minute drive or taxi ride from the theme park AND there are lots of woodland walks in Oxshott.
Hey guys! We're planning on being in London the last week of August. How far in advance do you think we should buy tickets to Chessington and would you go on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday?
Regarding Charlotte feel sick on mandrill mayhem, I feel the same with most large coasters. Especially icon. Makes me ill I need to have time out after..probably factored in by being a walk on que but still even on crowded days I have a similar problem..I try to break it up with dark rides.
It certainly seems that Chessington has had the least winter sparkle (if any) out of each of the Merlin Parks, hopefully ride availability improves in time for the main Easter Holidays 👍🏻
Floor of the dodgems, could use some TLC .. that was a good layer of surface rust Small details to improve on... some pressure-washing here and there, and would look alot better!
It was amazing to see both of you when I came off rattlesnake and on the last train of vampire- and get a photo (I was the kid with the grey B&M t shirt) Thank you so much again 😊
Tomb blaster is closed for another refurb its reopening on april 1st, not sure why it says its having a health check, it did its reopening on april 1st on the website!! And apparently scorpion express might be reopening and chessington have been trying to fix it, hopefully they can get it working

Regarding Charlotte feel sick on mandrill mayhem, I feel the same with most large coasters. Especially icon. Makes me ill I need to have time out after..probably factored in by being a walk on que but still even on crowded days I have a similar problem..I try to break it up with dark rides.
UK parks do a great job with theming, particularly in dark rides.
It certainly seems that Chessington has had the least winter sparkle (if any) out of each of the Merlin Parks, hopefully ride availability improves in time for the main Easter Holidays 👍🏻
It was poor sadly
Thumbs up again for the great vlog as always. 👍
Floor of the dodgems, could use some TLC .. that was a good layer of surface rust
Small details to improve on... some pressure-washing here and there, and would look alot better!
Cant wait to go back in the summer hopefully the rides will be all open😂❤
It was amazing to see both of you when I came off rattlesnake and on the last train of vampire- and get a photo (I was the kid with the grey B&M t shirt) Thank you so much again 😊
Great to see you!
Tomb blaster is closed for another refurb its reopening on april 1st, not sure why it says its having a health check, it did its reopening on april 1st on the website!! And apparently scorpion express might be reopening and chessington have been trying to fix it, hopefully they can get it working
Crikey it has changed heaps, Last time I was there it had the Runaway train, log flume and the terrifying 5th Dimension dark ride.
