I saw that episode before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and ME-CFS, the same illness Dorothy has here. And, it resonated with me even then as a woman, and a WOC at that, because we are believed even less. Once I was diagnosed, and I rewatched this episode, I wept in release and gratitude. The Golden Girls will always be the best show ever for treating all of these huge issues in such a human way. May your memory be for blessing always, Bea Arthur. 💖

“I still wish you a better doctor than you were to me.” That’s one of my favorite Dorothy speeches. I’ve had the unfortunate situation of having a doctor like that when I too was diagnosed with CFS and Crohns Disease. They treat you like you’re crazy and making it up for attention instead of saying they just don’t know what’s wrong with you. And I honestly thought of that scene with Dorothy. Good for her!

Whrn dorothy said "your hurting me" it sent chills up my spine. It was a bit scary to see how fast rex went to getting physical with someone, like violence was the only way he knew to get what he wanted, even if it was just a tight squeeze on the arm. Dorothy always would protect those she cares genuinely for, even if she puts herself in harm's way.
She respected blanche, treated her like an adult by respectinh her choices even if they were bsd, but wanted to protect her. Dorothy doesn't take shite and will hand it back just as if not harder.

And then Rose saw an initial B.H. and Dorothy thought it was Blanche Hollingsworth, and then started to feel Blanche's feeling towards the house, her memory, her love to her grandma.

Eventually my heart issue got so bad to the point where I would collapse and/or I would pass out. I am so glad and thankful that I was exposed to this show. I don't know if I ever would have watched it on my own accord.

I think I first watched this show as a young teenager. For years, Sophia was my favorite. As I grew into my early 20s (now, in my late 30s), I realized that Dorothy is my hands down favorite. Not just on this show, but probably my favorite character of all time. I Love Lucy had been my favorite show my whole life, until this came along and topped it. Dorothy was relatable in that she always felt like the ugly duckling. She was very smart, practical and truly believed in approaching life in a fair and honest way. I think Dorothy believed good karma would come around to those who make an honest effort in life. I pitied Dorothy for all of the creeps and losers she dated that dumped on her, all the while being optimistic that her prince would come along. She felt dumped on and disrespected at work (by the students) and was probably the most demeaned by her own mother. I too have a mom who is overwhelmingly pessimistic and vocally critical - it can crush your soul and ego, if you aren't already grounded in yourself and aware of your own worth. I so related to Dorothy and was heartbroken by the injustices she suffered. Yes, she eventually found her husband, but look at how long she had to wait in life. I think Blanche and Rose (and Sophia) were the type of friends that could rib her, but also brought out her strengths and boosted her. I think Dorothy really came into her own because of their respect and faith in her. I admired Dorothy's strong traits and sharp tongue and cried right along with her, in the bitter sweet moments.
This show will always be one that I will treasure.

And it also showed that someone as level-headed as Dorothy can get swept up and make mistakes, even repeat them, and still come out better-you don’t have to beat yourself up about who you used to be. And they wrapped that up really well in the finale.

So its not that different from now but their brassiness, their obvious lack of "gentle" character always gets me. its as if they cant comprehend why their needs wouldn't met for the very little they offer/ I'm trying to find the words to wrap up just how inconsiderate and naively entitled they seemed.
