Yes, they were. My favorite episodes were when Dorothy told her "friend" off for discriminating against anybody and telling Dr. Budd off for dismissing her when she told him that she didn't feel well.
In a flashback scene, at some point in the series, Sophia and Sal are standing over baby Phil in a cradle and the comment is made/question is asked: why is he wearing Dorothys old baby clothes
Amazing video! Blanche’s line in Clip 3 ALWAYS gives me chills...at a time when journalists and evangelists were *literally* calling AIDS a punishment on the gay community, hearing someone so violently shout that down-“AIDS is not a *bad* person’s disease, Rose. It is not God punishing people for their sins”-is empowering and beautiful. Three cheers to the writers for making this material work, and the Girls themselves for delivering that material like the Queens they are!
My heart still breaks for being with aids during this time. I couldn’t imagine. Those poor men. They truly were blamed for no reason while going through one of the worst things imaginable.
I also love how blanche delivered those lines, back in a time when there was such a stereotype on AIDS and who it was affecting...these girls did a great job tackling this subject and many of the producers and directors of this show were gay, they did an excellent job executing the material!
When I was a freshman in college I had a friend like that. Andy and James were roommates who lived down the hall from me. We had the same classes and I was the first gay person they had ever met and they were so awe-struck that I didn't like girls. "Even that one?! But do you see her boobs!" One day, Andy askes me what kind of guys I like and I told him the kind that looked like James and he had the same reaction as Blanche. "James! You think James is hot? What about me?" He was pissed and shocked that I was attracted to his roommate and not him.
"He was a good man." I love how the Golden Girls made a point of putting the person someone was before any sort of labels, and the Good Morning Miami scene really pushes that as a kicker about how silly judging someone based on their sexual preference is; that we should judge people as people and the content of their character, not who's in their bed or how they 'look' or 'act' gay.
Those Ladies were wonderfully and refreshingly ahead of the pack. I’ll love them and what they did always and thank them for their LGBT 🏳️🌈 championing! 🌈🌈❤️❤️🥰🥰
I love Blanche's comment on clip #6. "I still can't say that I understand what you're doing. But I do intend to try to respect your decision to do it." This is all you can really ask of anyone. No one has to abandon their personal views and accept or support anything they don't agree with. But we should all endeavor to respect other's freedom to choose what's right for them!
jareyn98 well said, my friend!!!!! I truly hope that there are many people in particularly lgbtq who agree with that statement. I personally experienced both sides of the lgbtq... some respond like you and others throw out “homophobia” accusations when someone is being polite as can be when disagreeing . Hopefully the mainstream media catches on. Something that I learned throughout life is ALL communities whether, race, religion, sexuality, culture etc has its good and bad side. Long live the Golden girls. Love always 🌈
That's what I did when I got little older and detached from my parents thinking. They r not bad people but their generation was raised conservative so I understand if they won't accept LGBT people. I did not understand much about LGBT possibly still don't but I try to respect their life choices. As long it's between 2 consenting adults or 2 teenagers for that matter it's not a problem in my eyes.
I felt like Blanche was the one who struggled the most with the idea of homosexuality probably because she was raised in the south, but her scenes with her brother when she finally accepted him were very touching. ❤️
Also #3 that bothers me. We all don't want diseases & wonder why it happened to us. IDK I just don't like Rose's comments to Blanche. #9 I would have called Rose on that one. To put me on a panel & keep up with it cause Rose misunderstood the topic. Sorry Rose I don't care if u loose ur job. Just my opinion!
@@lornalulich9562 Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you about #7. That episode always makes me tear up. For your comment about #3-She acted that way because she had no idea about HIV/AIDS. You have to remember, it was the 80s and there just wasn't enough information out there about HIV/AIDS(I mean people actually thought you could get it just by touching an infected person, which isn't true at all) like there is now. It was a scary thing for everyone back then. And Stay Golden is right, her strong reaction was to get the point across and it definitely worked.
They can never recreate this show if they tried. All those iconic actresses with experience from the great years of television. The "timing" alone, you can't teach that. 💘
It wasn't just the four principals. The guest stars and recurring characters were fully fleshed out and well written. The actors looked like they lived in those roles for years by the time they appeared.
Blanche: I have no problem with him being homosexual, I just don't like him dating men! Dorothy: You really haven't grasped the concept of this whole gay thing yet, have you? Blanche: There must be homosexuals who date women. Sophia: Yeah, they're called lesbians!
It was more than likely that these episodes helped LGBTQ people get the acceptance that they have today, and that they helped bring about the day when they could legally get married. I say this because the show was so popular, and it was popular with different segments of the population. PS I know that LGBTQ people still have to struggle on different fronts, however.
@Tony Mario you are fucking pathetic! Nobody gives a shit about your homophobic views. the world is evolving and leaving people like you behind. grow up!
Seeing Sophia cry about her son broke my heart and made me think is this what my parents thought too. But not once did they ever let me see that they didn’t love me regardless of who i liked. These are good people.. you might not get it, but you support people and their right to do so.
Literally I have no reason to quote this line but I do allllll the time when someone says something wrong 😂😂😂😂 and they look at me like my heads gone soft 😂😂😂💀
Sophia For starters Jean is a lesbian Blanche What's the big deal about that. Sophia You aren't surprised!!? Blanche Well isn't Danny Thomas one?!! Dorothy Not LEBANESE Blanche, a lesbian. Blanche A lesbian, lesbian LESBIAN isn't that when one woman and another woman Dorothy We already know what it is Blanche Sophia But that not all Jean is in love with Rose. Blanche Now that is just crazy crazy I say Dorothy I was a bit shocked myself Blanche to think Jean would prefer Rose over me. Maybe you shouldn't tell Rose you know she isn't as worldly and sophisticated about these things as I am. Sophia I know if Rose finds out Danny Thomas is a lesbian it would break her heart!!
Truly shows that these four women were four of the greatest actresses of all time. Such a touchy subject in the 80’s and they showed as something that shouldn’t be taboo.
I was always fascinated by Blanche being the voice of reason in the AIDS episode. It seems on the surface that Dorothy would be the obvious choice to explain it to Rose but I really admire the choice to have Blanche say it instead. This is twice as effective given that Blanche herself is the most sexually active AND her brother is gay, meaning she isn't only speaking on her own behalf, but his as well as everyone else in the LGBTQ_+ community.
I do believe that is why they made that specific choice for her to be the voice. It is the unexpected character to give this perspective, such as when Sophia says she wouldn't love her kid any less, you could expect an older generation to have a different point of view but did not.
I know those scenes and I know Coco was a powerful representation, however not explicitly talked about except for the off colored jokes, which I did not feel should be put in. Those are also good characters.
Thang Voung The cross-dressing trumpet player and the queenie wedding planner, were hilarious. :-) and I read awhile back that the reason that their gay cook "Coco" (played by actor Charles Levin) appeared *only* in the pilot episode, was because the writers decided that it was going to be too difficult to come up with story-lines that would include "Coco", so the writers "dropped" that character from the cast after filming the very first (pilot) episode. This is what happened in the US version of "The Golden Girls". In the *Greek* version of "The Golden Girls", however, the character "Coco" *remained* as part of the cast....Sophia and Coco shared a bedroom & slept in bunk-beds.
When Sophia talked about Phil #7 I cried my eyes out because I feel so bad that she blames herself.Sure she makes witty comebacks and laughs a lot but what I saw there was so much pain.
@「sēd」Phil - who, as you can tell from the clip, was Sophia's recently deceased son - regularly wore women's clothing. That's Phil's wife assuring Sophia that she had raised a good man.
The scene that always stood out to me was the one where Sophia breaks over her sons death, it was so powerful and heartbreaking. This was truly an amazing show and I'm not shocked it has withstand the test of time better than other shows. I fell in love with this show as a teenager and it gave my mom and I something to watch and bond together with.
This clip me moved me to tears. The way they handled gay and lesbian topics was simply beautiful. As one comment said they were years ahead of their time, to openly empower the gay community and educate the ignorant masses. Not just on screen either. Off screen they continued to advocate the cause. Rest in peace Rue, Bea and Estelle. I've always loved you all.
As amazing as this is, my privileged brain is like, “And it took this long after this to get marriage equality.” This show was faaar ahead of its time. Holy shit. I remember watching this as a kid but never fully understood.
Patrick Mccallion designing women had a great episode also. Julia tells the women she needs to move her car the lady says y julia says cause your leaving and gives her a julia speech about if aids was punishment for sins we all be at the free clinic. Priceless.
Everyone wants someone to grow old with and shouldn’t everyone have that Chance...that touches my heart The whole episode with Jean is really good I love it
These wonderful girls, who had extraordinary writers and crew behind them, have left a permanent mark in the show bizz and dealt elegantly and smartly with subjects that in the 80s and 90s were still not addressed in a non judgemental way. Hats off to all involved in this show! 😍
Love! In the very last clip where Blanche confuses “lesbian” with “Lebanese,” the scene goes on. Dorothy reveals that Jean is in love with Rose and Blanche becomes incensed. Not incensed that Rose is the object of another woman’s affection, but that the woman would prefer Rose over her. 😂💯❤️
@@damianfavreau8512 Sophia was trying to come to terms with her son, Phil, wearing women's clothing and his feminine side. Something he felt uncomfortable sharing with her in her role as his mum. After he had died, it came out about him wearing women's clothing and being feminine. I believe he may have been a cross dresser and gay, if memory serves me right. He married a women to deny himself of who he truly was and that may have led to more harm than good. His wife was comforting Sophia and helping her to understand she raised a good son and Sophia should be proud of who he was as an individual. In this clip, Sophia feels she had done something wrong as a mother due to her confronting her feelings and what she knew about her son, Phil. His wife relays to Sophia that she had done her job as a mum beautifully as he was still a good man regardless of his personal feelings of what felt right for him. Sophia was doing what any parent would do in that situation: trying to understand if they, as a parent, had done something to harm their child to be this way, without understanding fully that we are all individuals who have the right to be whom is best for us...and not what society expects us to be. Does that make sense?
This show really pushed the envelope in terms of social commentary... It highlighted how women over 40 DO still have the freedoms to do whatever they want, it had an all female lead cast (which was unheard of in the 80s when the show first came out) and in the midst of the AIDS crisis, it shed light on the LGBT community from a sympathetic and open minded point of view
I agree with you. The show absolutely adjusted culture's boundaries through its storylines. I think really well done popular culture entertainment has the power to change opinions.
I agree. Definitely one of the funniest of the show. My absolute funniest moment from the show has to be Rose talking about the herring circus. To watch all three actresses struggle to finish the scene as they were in fits of laughter just made that whole scene even more funny.
I love every episode of The Golden Girls. I especially love The episode where Sophia talks to Blanche about Doug and Clayton getting married. It reminds of when I came out as gay to my mom a couple years ago. After I came out to her she was in denial about it so I asked her "why did you marry my dad?" She told me that "we loved each other. We wanted to spend the rest of our lives together." I told her " that's what I want also." I then told her that "everyone wants someone to grow old with at some point in life. Shouldn't I have that chance?" Then she accepted me for what my sexuality is. I'm very lucky that my mom won't abandon me from her life because of my sexuality.
I only hope that I have half the poise, class, and grace that these women had, and in Betty's case, continue to have. May we all live as long, as fully, and as loved.
My film teacher asked us what sitcom shows we know, most people say B99 or Disney channel stuff. He said try to think of something recent. I couldn't so I did a 180 and said "Golden Girls". My teacher was surprised I even know about the show cause "it's his parents time" kind of show
As a gay man, I wasn't allowed to watch this show as it wasn't Godly (Christian parents) but I secretly did anyway. Thos show helped me come to terms with my own sexuality and made me understand (clip 3 moved me then and now!) that it was ok to be gay. I still watch this show today, as I have all 7 seasons on DVD
I own every season and have seen every episode over a dozen times. They tackled this and other issues like racism, teen pregnancy and immigration with such class. This show is a gem.
This sitcom is the best that television has to offer and it will always be ahead of its time ... who would not agree with Sophia when she says "If my child were gay then I wish him all the luck in the world"..... Thank you
Thank you for uploading this. I hope people watch this and laugh as this programme helped dismiss so many issues. I am grateful that The Golden Girls led the way forward and made things easier for me in life.
Seeing #7 i remember watching it with my grandma and she started crying. It really hit her because my father passed away, and now she is the one saying "my baby is gone."
The Golden Girls were definitely ahead of their time! 💖 as a queer woman myself I’ve always been in love with the show and I’m glad they had scenes like these in their episodes, especially during the time period the show was still airing new episodes. It came out around the time of the AIDS epidemic where conversations like sexuality were still very taboo
I watched this show since the day it aired. I appreciate that the GG show didn’t create stereotypes. They were very much ahead of their time. Thank you for posting this!
This was such a great vid! One of the reasons I fell in love with Golden Girls is that it tackled complex issues and gave a platform to members of the population that were often ignored/treated like they were invisible, or who were demonized. Oh and the “Wake Up Miami” Episode is one of my all time favorites!
The Golden Girls have always been within my heart. There are many lessons to learn from them. The writters and directors were also very talented and sensitive.Congratulations to all of them!xxx
'Jean is a nice person, she happens to like girls instead of guys, some people like dogs instead of cat's.... frankly I'd rather live with a lesbian instead of a cat. Unless a lesbian sheds that I don't like.' Priceless and well done~
Beautiful compilation of some great ideas ahead of their time. I wish we could be as open about all the things these women have touched on in today's society. These women showed me people are people. They come in all shapes and sizes and experiences. They can be black, white, Asian, gay, straight, disabled,, etc etc. They were all just people. Instead episodes are being taken out and trashed because they could trigger someone due to the sensitive nature of the subject. 😔
This was fantastic! I was born in '84 so I only caught the show on reruns but always liked it. I'm extremely impressed; I did research for an article I wrote on LGBTQ culture & politics in the 80's & it blew me away how it was then. One time, a teacher had to leave his job because he was gay and literally didn't show his face on TV. They talked on the news about how many gay delegates were at the 1980 DNC, and estimated future numbers like they're a novelty. And yet here are the Golden Girls, a-ok (or at least trying) instead of rejecting family & friends they were loving and understanding. That's amazing. Happy pride everyone!! 🏳️🌈
Oh my god, I’m tearing up over a completely out of context scene from a show I barely remember watching over a decade ago. I guess that’s how you the actors and writer were top notch.
I grew up with the Golden Girls; watched it each week with my grandmother, and now have all the seasons on disk. The #7 scene of the episode when Phil dies still gets me to this day, watching through teary, blurry vision.
Stay Golden I love your channel, especially this video. Since I’m gay, I love that the writers and stars of the show supported all love even back then!
What people fail to realize is that gay people have been in this world since the beginning of time. One thing I like about these shows is that they talked about all walks of life and showed different viewpoints from other people. I really slept on this show, but now that I seen it, I understand why people love this show so much. The Golden Girls makes you laugh and think about your future and most importantly, think about the people you want to spend the rest of your life with. That’s why I wished that TV would go back to this. Talking about life, friends, relationships, etc.
Stay Golden exactly. Many 80’s shows talked about it. The Golden Girls (of course), Gimme a Break did 2 episodes, talking about LGBTQ+ people. Sure, it wasn’t really accepting at that time, but it shows that we have been here a long time and have came a long way to have rights as well.
This compilation is a great job. Those truly are he proudest moments. And Sophia’s crying scene always breaks my heart. It’s always a deep great emotional pain to make her in tears. Phil’s passing away is one and I remember another scene where Sophia’s friend is planning to kill herself to end all the diseases she’s suffering and asks Sophia to be by her side when that happens, and Sophia takes the pills away and shares her thoughts in tears...
I love this compilation. Who would've thought that a legendary sitcom made such important statements and representations? The presentation of Queerness on this show was done brilliantly. Scene #4 will always be one of my absolute favorites of any scene on any tv show. Sophia makes it sound so simple....and then follows it up with hilarity.

I love how the Golden Girls made a point of putting the person someone was before any sort of labels, and the Good Morning Miami scene really pushes that as a kicker about how silly judging someone based on their sexual preference is; that we should judge people as people and the content of their character, not who's in their bed or how they 'look' or 'act' gay.
Absolutely. It is interesting how when put side by side they are doing similar actions from very different directions. One serious and one funny.
So true
"we don't believe in labels" oh my God! This show WAS ahead of its time
Those Ladies were wonderfully and refreshingly ahead of the pack. I’ll love them and what they did always and thank them for their LGBT 🏳️🌈 championing! 🌈🌈❤️❤️🥰🥰
Absolutely
Designing Women, too
Maybe some clips from that show?
Maybe. We tend to keep it GG main focus here.
Yes!
jareyn98 well said, my friend!!!!!
As long it's between 2 consenting adults or 2 teenagers for that matter it's not a problem in my eyes.
yes!!
I felt like Blanche was the one who struggled the most with the idea of homosexuality probably because she was raised in the south, but her scenes with her brother when she finally accepted him were very touching. ❤️
Interesting insight.
Blanche: Lesbian, Lesbian,... LESBIAN!
😂😂😂
Lesbian?!?
That was my favorite part.
Blanche loves everybody
These cracked me up then. It still does now in 2019. The best TV series of all times. 👍😁
That is my favorite episode. When Blanche looses it because Gene loves Rose and not her. OMG.
I'VE JUST DONE THE IMPOSSIBLE, I'VE CONVERTED HIM. LOL!!!!!
That is a fun moment.
I die every time she says that
“Sophia: Everyone wants someone to grow old with, shouldn’t everyone have that chance?” All facts!! ❤️❤️
Totally all facts!
#7 at the end is so heartbreaking for me. When Sophia starts to cry, I can't watch that one to the end. Always find myself crying.
I hear you. I think #3 is more extreme in this instance to make the point stronger.
And Stay Golden is right, her strong reaction was to get the point across and it definitely worked.
sorarikukairi08 what episode is 7 from?
All episodes are listed in the description.
Yes!
It was more than likely that these episodes helped LGBTQ people get the acceptance that they have today, and that they helped bring about the day when they could legally get married. I say this because the show was so popular, and it was popular with different segments of the population. PS I know that LGBTQ people still have to struggle on different fronts, however.
These storyline for sure brought visibility.
@Mac intoSser These women do feel like family to fans of the show.
@Giovanna R. Yes, you're right.
@Tony Mario you are fucking pathetic! Nobody gives a shit about your homophobic views. the world is evolving and leaving people like you behind. grow up!
@Tony Mario mate, this video is literally about lgbt. go away.
Seeing Sophia cry about her son broke my heart and made me think is this what my parents thought too. But not once did they ever let me see that they didn’t love me regardless of who i liked. These are good people.. you might not get it, but you support people and their right to do so.
Thank you for sharing!
They were way ahead of their times.
Absolutely.
@Tony Mario This entire video is about progression, tolerance, and acceptance. Stop being an asshole.
@Tony Mario Oh go contract COVID-19 you hate-filled psychopath
To bad the rest of the world is still lagging behind.
Not Lebanese, Blanche. It has to be one of my favorite lines from the show.
It's so great.
Literally I have no reason to quote this line but I do allllll the time when someone says something wrong 😂😂😂😂 and they look at me like my heads gone soft 😂😂😂💀
@@colin3674 I'm going to start doing that
Sophia
For starters Jean is a lesbian
Blanche
What's the big deal about that.
Sophia
You aren't surprised!!?
Blanche
Well isn't Danny Thomas one?!!
Dorothy
Not LEBANESE Blanche, a lesbian.
Blanche
A lesbian, lesbian LESBIAN
isn't that when one woman and another woman
Dorothy
We already know what it is Blanche
Sophia
But that not all Jean is in love with Rose.
Blanche
Now that is just crazy crazy I say
Dorothy I was a bit shocked myself
Blanche to think Jean would prefer Rose over me. Maybe you shouldn't tell Rose you know she isn't as worldly and sophisticated about these things as I am.
Sophia
I know if Rose finds out Danny Thomas is a lesbian it would break her heart!!
Mine too!
Number #7 really got to me when Sofia started crying at the end of it.
It's a very emotional scene
It always gets me to 😭
I just wanted to give her the biggest hug ever
Why was she crying
@@punkrockjoanofarc yh i want to know why too
Truly shows that these four women were four of the greatest actresses of all time. Such a touchy subject in the 80’s and they showed as something that shouldn’t be taboo.
Exactly
“The lesbian thing? Do you keep it under your hat?”
Gurl you missed the gay cook, the cross dressing trumpet player, and the queenie wedding planner. LOL
I know those scenes and I know Coco was a powerful representation, however not explicitly talked about except for the off colored jokes, which I did not feel should be put in. Those are also good characters.
"Honey, you think you're confused? Take a look at our horn section."
"Now look here, Stretch..."
@@02chevyguy "you're just gonna fly outta here, arent you?" 😂😂
Thang Voung The cross-dressing trumpet player and the queenie wedding planner, were hilarious.
@magnetothewhite lololol :-)
“If Rose finds out Danny Thomas is a lesbian it’ll break her heart!” 😂 The Golden Girls were the absolute best, and they knew their audience well!

When Sophia talked about Phil #7 I cried my eyes out because I feel so bad that she blames herself.Sure she makes witty comebacks and laughs a lot but what I saw there was so much pain.
Agreed. Her humor was likely a defense mechanism as well.
What happened in #7? I haven't watched a lot of Golden girls and i don't mind spoilers
@「sēd」Phil - who, as you can tell from the clip, was Sophia's recently deceased son - regularly wore women's clothing. That's Phil's wife assuring Sophia that she had raised a good man.
@@CarbonatedMargarine oooooh, okay, now i get it! Thank you!
I never saw that episode. I had no idea Phil died...
The golden girls was a socially progressive show and they found the right balance to discuss those social issues with sensitivity, respect and comedy.
Yes!
I love Sophia's acceptance about Jean. "Jean is a nice person. She happens to like girls instead of guys. Some people like cats instead of dogs."
Yes yes!!!
"I'd rather live with a lesbian than a cat....unless lesbians shed, that I don't know..."
I love how Rue is trying not to crack up in the last clip lmfao
Hard work not to!
Thank you for sharing. I do think this show helped bring many generations together and I am glad you shared it with your mom.
What episode was that
@@quintell8208 season 6 episode 11: Ebbtide's Revenge
This clip me moved me to tears. The way they handled gay and lesbian topics was simply beautiful. As one comment said they were years ahead of their time, to openly empower the gay community and educate the ignorant masses. Not just on screen either. Off screen they continued to advocate the cause. Rest in peace Rue, Bea and Estelle. I've always loved you all.
Thank you for sharing. Absolutely years ahead of the rest in this area.
The Phil scene made me cry then and still does now.

This is how to write comedy around a sensitive topic. Never laughing AT the minority, but writing jokes around INFORMATIVE conversations.

Blanche, Sophia, Dorothy and Rose were such badasses! 🌈🖤🤎❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Clip 3 was the best. Blanche telling Rose off about aids was well said. Its not punishment
Here you on that.
Though in truth, there is an increased risk of AIDS in homosexual couples. The Medical profession back it up.

They covered this topic perfectly with not being LGBTQ phobic and not overreacting about the topic

These wonderful girls, who had extraordinary writers and crew behind them, have left a permanent mark in the show bizz and dealt elegantly and smartly with subjects that in the 80s and 90s were still not addressed in a non judgemental way. Hats off to all involved in this show! 😍
Yes yes
:)
Don't tell Rose Danny Thomas is a Lesbian It would break her heart 😁
Phil's death and Sophia saying "my baby is gone" always chokes me up. So much emotion and pain in that scene.
Same.
Number 7 ripped my heart out and threw it into trash....
It's brutal.
I actually doesnt understand what happen in scene 7,, what happen to her son? Is he gay?
@@ZoomZoomBoom24 my friend went through the same thing growing up and still bears emotional pain to this day, so I feel this on a few levels
Stay Golden oh definitely!!
The Lebanese/Lesbian segment was one of the funniest GG moments. I still laugh my butt off when I see it 😂😂 Ugh...this show is too good!
Yes!!
Thank you for sharing and that your mother has accepted you and you can be yourself. It is not simple to come out
Omg that dorothys face when she was called s lesbian!! I’m literally crying. Love this show!!

Yay! A Stay Golden Video! As time has passed I have appreciated more how progressive the Golden Girls were with these episodes.
My film teacher asked us what sitcom shows we know, most people say B99 or Disney channel stuff. He said try to think of something recent. I couldn't so I did a 180 and said "Golden Girls". My teacher was surprised I even know about the show cause "it's his parents time" kind of show
Wooooooooooo!!!!!

The Golden Girls were definitely ahead of their time! 💖 as a queer woman myself I’ve always been in love with the show and I’m glad they had scenes like these in their episodes, especially during the time period the show was still airing new episodes. its such a shame that Sophia finally understood and accepted her son after he passed away.
This was such a great vid! One of the reasons I fell in love with Golden Girls is that it tackled complex issues and gave a platform to members of the population that were often ignored/treated like they were invisible, or who were demonized.

Number 7 was a scene that would always make my grandmother and I tear up... ty stay golden for helping me to remember :)
I feel you on that.
Thank you for sharing!
I could see that being true.
Never gets old! One of the best shows ever written.

The show and the actors are completely top notch.
I grew up with the Golden Girls; watched it each week with my grandmother, and now have all the seasons on disk. The #7 scene of the episode when Phil dies still gets me to this day, watching through teary, blurry vision.

Still in December 2019 and almost 2020, I’m still addicted to Golden Girls. Literally one of the most amazing shows ever created. Period!
Nothing wrong with that!!
Thank you for sharing. And yes absolutely the LGBTQ+ community has been around a long long time. I am glad you found this show!
I hear you on that.

I'm not crying, honest! That was such a touching moment, all the more because it was Sophia saying it.
And absolutely fine if you ARE.
This show was actually really progressive. Loved Blanche coming to accept her gay brother.
Absolutely was. Totally agree.
Thank you for watching and sharing!
Glad you enjoyed!!
