Thanks for the video. I have a split drive shaft as it is a multitool. When taking off the strimmer end it pulled the top part of the drive shaft cable/metal shaft out as well from the upper shaft. It pushed back and worked but I had thought it may be broken or not locked in properly. Now I feel reassured that I will not spoil my tool by using it

I lubed the spring cable in the Echo GT1100 that I am giving my son in law, yesterday. It was, at most a 10 minute job after watching your video. I had lubed the straight shaft in my Stihl FS 76 a few years ago but this was my first spring cable. I bought a tube of White Lithium grease from Ace Hardware for $8. It was about the same size as the Echo grease but at less than half the price. I pulled the cable out and wiped it down with a shop towel several times and then lathered it up with white lithium the same way you did. It was completely white when I got through with it. I did not coat the last inch which goes into the sprocket but the rest was well coated. It took me several washings of my hands to get the white lithium off, which means it will continue to lube the cable for a long time. I cranked it up, afterwards, and it ran, fine. Thanks.

I know people have used curved shaft trimmers for years. I have as well. But it sure seems it would work on the drive shaft harder than a straight shaft. And I now have nearly all straight shaft trimmers. I replaced the curved shaft drive lines a few times, but yet have changed any straight shaft... Thumbs Up!

After replacing the clutch assembly on my TroyBilt trimmer I found that the lower cable had separated at the head. I wish I had checked the cable first, but when I would pull the starter, it would still turn the head. Well, at least I know the clutch is good and new now also!

Alas, I have a Troy Bilt TB10CS whose lower end isn't held on by any bolts. The cable must be twisted off right down at the head, which appears to be held on by one of those cursed one-way lock washers with the grippers that let you push it on, but prevent you from ever removing it short of destroying it. I was able to pull the liner out from the top end about 6 inches, but it will come no farther. Suggestions?

Is there a proper orientation when inserting the cable as far as the corkscrew of the cable goes? I’m assuming it’s only meant to twist one direction under load. Thanks great video!

I've got Stihl KM 55 weedeater that you can attach different attachments. Driveline just started coming out of motor side when I separate shaft in middle? Has sonething come loose up in handle or just sticky and needs grease?? Can't find any info on why this is happening. Best tool ever, purchased in 2012 and every year starts right up, no problems and I do a lot of weedeating! Any idea what's causing driveline to pull out of top portion when separating?

Hi great video. I have a ry8002800 weed trimmer but need a flex drive shaft for it. I believe it’s a ry252cs now that it’s curved. My issue is I can’t find the inches I need to complete this job. Your video came closest that I saw with a longer flex. I see lower shaft cable upper shaft cables , but my solution to my problem is watching you install that flex from top clutch to the end of the head. My approximate inch from clutch to head is roughly 57 inches. Can you help me. Ps. Great vid

wow a nice job replacing that cable and liner
mine is a straight shaft that needs cleaned & lubed. you make it look easy. :)
on another note: I have a stihl trimmer fs 56 rc that has NO grease plug on the gear box.
yes I bought it new this way.
I do see replacements have the plug.
this original box does get hot after an hour or so trimming or brush cutting. [did when it was new too]
Ive had it a few years and it spins fine and no noise, But no place to grease it?
should I replace the gearbox? or drill & tap this box to accept a Zirc?
what do you think? should I just run it as it is? or?

Hey Jeremy, thank you for the video. I have a curved shaft with a busted drive cable - I've removed the cable by pulling it out the top portion of the shaft, but the portion that's broken is still at the curved end of the shaft. Try as I have, struggling on how to unscrew the nut at the end of the shaft which I thought would allow me to gain access to the broken portion of the cable. Any chance you can advise me? @@THEMOWERMEDIC1 thank you for your response, but that's where Im having trouble.. there is no sleave or liner within the length of the shaft, rather the cable goes down to the (curved) bottom... at the bottom, there is a bearing nut that spins and like a thin end cap (maybe .125") at the end of the shaft that has a little notch...
im sure the notch has something to do with taking that end cap off, but im not clear on what tool to use for this... i can send a photo.? email?
