How do I get the bolt out? I have seen a few youtube videos, for similar models. I am having an issue getting the screw loose in the clutch bell because the connection keeps spinning. I tried using a torx wrench and jamming a tool in the spinning section under it however ive stripped the tool. the videos i saw didnt have to work to get the screw off. Im trying to get to the coil which retracts the starter pull string but the bell siphon is in the way.

Good job mate. We have all broken that screw, this will save buying a new clutch housing.

Thanks Bill! Spot on :) the last time I rounded the Torx bit thankfully not snapped it, but I wish I knew this then before it ended up in the bin!

Good vid there mate, glad it helped, now you need to explain to your viewers what happened to that circlip when you first removed it, :), and why when fitting it, you had your finger over it. On some circlips, I put the piece that has the circlips inside a plastic bag if possible, and if it flies off, the bag contains it.

Thanks mate and thanks for your help, this would be in the bin if it wasn’t for you!
Yes! Such a good point. For anyone reading this, the thing went flying the first time even with my thumb covering it. Spent 10 minutes searching.
Great tip with a clear bag mate! I’ll use that in future :)

Amazing video. Great advice! I love your novel way of looking at these problems. My issue is I accidentally rounded the torx screw head and can't figure out a way to get it the heck out of the drum so that I can use your method to rebuild the drum. The shaft on my Ryobi 875r 4 stroke is way too narrow to get a screw extractor down there. I'm guessing the only option is a long skinny left hand drill bit, but I wont be able to see what i'm doing down in the shaft and I don't want to damage the crankshaft threads. I figure if anyone can figure this out it would be you. Might make a good companion video to the rebuild one. Cheers

Hey :) thanks! You can try put some CA glue on the end of the Torx bit, let it set up and carefully see if you can free it? It’s unlikely, but it’s about the best I can come up with!

How on earth did you manage to get the screw out of the crank shaft. I just broke one off in mine and would really appreciate some advice on how to get it out.

    • @VintageEngineRepairs

They should only be snug and maybe a touch more, if they’re hard to remove it’s possibly rust. Be careful, heat it up and use penetrating oil. Then drill a hole through the bolt and use an easy out :)
