    Billy: you are so lucky you got back. Our Connecticut tides are as high over 8 feet during moon tides and many a fisherman have drown going out on river opening bars at dead low and getting swept out when that tide piles in fast. What can look like flat land on way out can have deep cuts or valleys on way back in. Good rule is to fish outgoing and head back in close to dead low. Then always safe. Glad you go back ok. We have all been there. Scary, especially when dark. I got caught on nearby Penfield Reef once 1/2 mile out when a thick fog bank engulfed my pal and I at night.

    Dood that incoming tide and your hike back was hilarious and scary at the same time! Everything could of been wet or lost including yourself. Glad you made it or we wouldn't see this video.

    I grew up fishing that exact spot. Topwater lures are the way to go.
    Edit....get the hell out of there when the tide gets to about 2 feet above dead low

    If someone hasn't been in the Sound, they may not been familiar with 7 foot tide variation, normal daily. Which makes for interesting experience sometimes!

    SAFETY ALERT. Do you have stingrays? Word to the wise! Drag your feet in the water. Theyll scurry off,or get a stinger in your leg. Barbed both sides entire lenght of the stinger. Bacteria riddled can kill you. No joke.

    The Hooks on those spooks are junk to begin with, always switch to at least 5/0 single Hooks, might not have lost that big one if you did swap out Hooks.

    • @billybassfishing
      @billybassfishing  Год назад +3

      Yeah you’re not wrong…I’ve got BKK inline hooks on most of my plugs now

  • @kennethlocke4213
    @kennethlocke4213 Год назад +1

    Why do people turn to lures first? You want best chance of a hook up? Live bait local to the area. You can def catch fish on a lure,but keep in mind,your fooling the fish vs real they eat and hold onto.

      Maybe if I was out guiding or keeping fish but it’s more about the challenge for me…and I’ll take a topwater blowup over just about anything

      Yeah and where would he get “local bait”? Also, boring as hell to soak bait. Also, really messy and that current is really strong. It’s a sport.

  • @kennethlocke4213
    @kennethlocke4213 Год назад +1

    All that live bait bud? Think maybe its time to buy a cast net? 2 rods? Rod holder/spike drove deep in the ground. Play with the lure,but watch that live bait pole! Very common method.

    • @billybassfishing
      @billybassfishing  Год назад +2

      Never been a live bait guy tbh…it’s always the last resort if I can’t get em in artificials

    • @robertyacoub9705
      @robertyacoub9705 7 месяцев назад

      No way you can do that there. Those tides can be over 9 ft and come in really fast.

    • @robertyacoub9705
      @robertyacoub9705 7 месяцев назад

      Also, while you put new hooks on why not switch out rear treble for a single. Better for all. And crush barbs. Sorry, I gotta preach.

      You lived to tell the tale! Also could have followed sandbar north. Longer but shallower. Great stuff!
