Nice fish, just wish it wasn't out of the water that long. Then seemed like an awfully quick letting go once she went back to the water. I would've thought she needed way more time to get her strength back and recover. But anyhow, she was pretty. Hope she lived.

Was there bait fish around? Didn't look like blitz conditions. What tide?

Top of high tide. Guys to me left were catching fat Bass on poppers. The whole world showed up & it was chaos. Guys fishing 20ft a part for about 30 min. Then everyone stopped, I had this feeling that the Bass were underneath so I kept going. I was throwing a 9" RM Smith "Jackhammer" (distressed bone color). I caught a 32" & a 30" on it during the time everyone converged upon this spot. I kept throwing I kept throwing the plug & working it on top. Then this bass went for it & missed & I knew it was still there. So I tried again & got em

@@Sideler74 great stuff bro. Surf legends have said big bass always stick around after a blitz for easy pickins. You cought her in the beach lip trough i see. Weren't casting far so ht was key then. I missed the fall run out in so cali(surf fishing sucks here)on a job be back in a month in time for spring run. I fish s hook to Belmar, sometimes seaside & ibsp. You always throw mono? I love mono but too many blitzes are past 1st almost 2nd Sandbar. When do you think they will show up on the surf this spring?

Beautiful fish man, especially from the surf. Please don't take this the wrong way but a 47 inch fish could weigh between 33 pounds and 44 pounds. Always helpful to have a Boga to quickly grab a weight and release. Tight lines friend!

Yes afterwards the guys around me did a calculation and came up with 43.lbs. either way she was huge.

*A boga will inevitably kill a big fish if you lift it up vertically with it. You only use the boga to secure the fish, and then lift it horizontally with your other hand under its belly to support the weight of the animal. Lift it straight up by the boga though, and you will most likely separate its vertebrae. Picture yourself as a fish and the two claws of the boga is in your mouth and chin lifting you up; you would instinctively grab it with both hands to keep your head from falling off or to prevent getting internally decapitated by your head being separated off your spine. Amazed how so many guys don't know that. You from philly? You all got to be some of the stupidest people I've ever met, so not that surprising. F the eagles, phillies, sixers and whatever else.*

No, regulations say they have to be 28"-31" this year. Large Bass like this are most likely female breeders. Even if I could keep her, I wouldn't. Go swim and make more babies. Also, a Striped Bass that size, is about 16 years old.
