- This episode we construct a floating colony in the upper atmosphere of an enormous gas giant in order to extract fuel for our fusion rockets and reactors.
Kerbol is dying. Thousands of years after first venturing into space, Kerbalkind finds itself on the brink of extinction. On a newly terraformed Duna, it rests on the shoulders of a single space agency to reach for the stars once more and find a new home.
Beyond Kerbol is a career mode series following on from Endurance and set in the After Kerbin planet overhaul. The aim is to assemble a vast fusion powered spacecraft to colonise another solar system and save Kerbalkind. The game is in version 1.7.3 and uses the Making History and Breaking Ground expansions.

Ksp2 is just an optimized version of this mod pack.
but it's take 2 so
You guys have to remember that half of the original dev team from KSP 2 left star theory to continue working on the game. Star Theory was doing some weird crap as well asking for a six-month extension which is fairly common granted and then sending private division of buyout offer same week… That’s odd Isn’t it? Like they were trying to hold the project hostage.
Zachary Bunker yes but take two has a stake in ksp and it hasn’t really affected that from a common players perspective.
Zachary Bunker One of the most, if not the most profitable game company bought KSP 2, so what? That's good news
But without the Kraken (or most of it)
I can't think of a phrase that better sums up this series than, "I'm using ANTIMATTER and it's not enough!"
I Loved that phrase lol
That's pretty accurate.
Like, antimatter is so destructive, and yet *it isn't enough.*
In HumanSpaceProgram, AM is very efficient and things, but not thrusty cuz it spews a lot of gammas and it would heat too much.
In KSPIE it doesnt matter XD

Beardy: lands a plane on his gas giant colony
The Krakens living in Heba's atmosphere : ANGERY SQUID NOISES
Krankens: YOU DARE DEFY ME MORTAL *ship starts shaking*
Normal ksp players: im gonna go to mun.
Beardy: ESTABLISH DOMINANCE BY MAKING A FLOATING INTERPLANETARY BASE!
*interstellar
don't forget that it's floating on possibly the hardest body, in an entirely new starsystem
Hes not the first one to do it though.
@@ortherner i think its the first floating interstellar base!
Beardy: MACH 0.5 CARRIER LANDINGS IN THE ATMOSPHERE OF A GAS GIANT
You’ve finally done it, Beardy. You have finally managed to out-do Mark Thrimm and Stratenblitz for sheer audacity and scale!! MAGNIFICENT!!!
Thanks for featuring my fanart! I really enjoyed making it and I'm happy you liked it
UrAnus here, congrats
Uranus! I ‘ardly know ‘er!
The condor is honestly the coolest vehicule I've ever seen in ksp.
The bearded penguin has made an *air* craft carrier on a gassy boi
There’s an aircraft carrier on TAPE?
I can’t even put it into words how impressed I am at how much effort you put into these videos. I don’t care if I have to wait even months for an episode. I was not disappointed with this video.
That fan comic is amazing--it brings the story of Beyond Kerbol to life in such an imaginative and interesting way. Also, that Matt Lowne shade haha
Yeah, it's awesome! I really liked Bob's reaction when he was told what he's new assignment was. XD
I love the way the comic worldbuilds a bit - the KSC isn't just a simple space agency anymore, it's now integrated with the military, parts of it are likely under government control, etc. Love it.
Is it just me or is the Clark starting to look like a space station with a Daedalus engine strapped on
If KSP taught me anything it's that any space ship is one empty tank away from becoming a space station.
@@JaredThePiper truer words havent been spoken in years
I like how the craft lands by stopping abruptly from 200 m/s on a runway slightly longer than itself, and takes off by casually sliding off the front end and nosediving. Well done Beardy!
Petition to give the Heinlein the nickname: "Beardy's Jewel".
It's the peak of the kerbal engineering and science of that era and is a symbol of the success of the interstellar expedition. It's possibly the ultimate vanity project in KSP that is functional (outside of lore and headcannon) and is proof that making the biggest base/station/craft isn't the only way to create something truly impressive.
Well making the biggest of something is an easy way to crash your game
Awesome! One possible solution to the limited fuel, and I haven’t run the numbers, is to build a second Campbell type craft that can carry slightly more than the CO2 needed to descend and ascend. That way you have a net positive, allowing you to create some station above heba, freeing the Clark from needing to ship out and back(a waste of fuel pellets because you haul life support and those rings as well.) I realize the work needed to do this, but it could reduce future headaches and also serve as a long term high yield antimatter collector(the permanent orbital station).
I had the same idea, just less smart/fleshed out.
So it can carry more than the current Campbell, but goes down with its tanks partially empty, fills up, and then has more fuel and delta V to make it to orbit?
It took hundreds of tons of fuel to decelerate the Campbell just to descend to the platform, requiring it to be fully refuelled once landed. It then took hundreds of tons of fuel just to get two tons of fusion pellets into orbit..
There is no way for the Campbell or even a 'slightly larger Campbell' to put more fuel into orbit than it takes to descend and get into orbit.
Is your solution literally “build a slightly better spacecraft” lol
*Tries to establish a floating colony on a planet with 19 km/s of orbital velocity*
*Uses Vector engines*
Wouldnt it be easier to just refuel the Clarke with its own mag scoop?
Beardy: Yeah, I know. *But thats not cool enough*
BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS
Your patience in creating this series is immense and honorable. "It took 123 flights to transfer materials." I would be bored and stop playing after 3 flights.
I believe he said that he doesn't actually make all of those flights, just one per resource, then uses USI's resource transfer mechanic to simulate the others
I can’t believe how early I am for this... so thrilled to finally get to see it! Thanks for all your work Beardy!
Edit: Just an interesting tidbit, technically Jupiter and the Sun orbit a point just outside of the sun
I was hoping someone else would say this.
Someone else watched Anton’s video.
Containment Failure who is Anton? I learned this in my physics program...
@@Robert_RedBeard I too do not know who Anton is, but I learned it from blatant curiosity
I just kinda know this. I don't remember where I learned it.
I got to the blooper section of landing on the platform and I'm CRYING With Laughter.
Disclaimer:Beardy you are absolutely amazing, and if I had been controlling that plane there wouldn't be a platform anymore.
So glad to see this series continue! Honestly is the reason I'm playing KSP again, truly inspiring!
I absolutely love the Valentine system. Heba is gorgeous, It reminds me a lot of Crusader, from Star Citizen.
Congratulations Beardy, for the amazing episode. You are a record braker.
You teased us with those community posts but I’m glad it’s finally out
The results of your hard work look incredible! Thank you again for all your amazing work.
Love the comic, many thanks to the person who made it! And many thanks to the others who made fan art as well.
Man, I really love this series, I look forward for every new episode!
Hurah! It's back! Thank you so very much, Beardy! Your Kerbal videos are a tiny but important part of what is keeping me up through all this s*it!
I’ve been watching your channel for years I’m always astounded by the things you pull off
Heh. "Maneo Treatment"... A treatment of gory disassembly.
I remember reading that little comic a while ago! I didn't know it was about you, that's so awesome! They did my boy Lowne so dirty though TwT
Beardy: rendezvousses over 100 times with a space station and lands successfully almost every time to establish a sky city on a gas giant
Me: tries to dock and finally does it after 4 hours
Also your Heba SSTO looks devilishly fantastic. Not awkward at all. It looks like it's role, an absolutely insanely powerful and fast airplane.
This one was worth every second it took, good job :)
This is so cool. The colony on the gas giant is awesome and all the ships look like what I imagine in 70's sci-fi novels.
That new shuttle looks freaking.... AMAZING! Probably one of the best looking ships I have seen in this game.
Hey just finished binge watching the series, love it all keep up the good work cant wait for more episodes (at your own pace ofcourse!) :)
The colony kinda looks like a Golan Platform from Star Wars.
It took 4 weeks for you to make this. You are by far the most dedicated man I've met I love it
I love seeing Beardy get fanart and the comic. That comic is simply incredible and I love it!
I think this is one of my favorite videos of all time, it was so innovative and honestly I just love the idea of floating aerostat platforms. I can't imagine the time that went into this!
I've seen this video pop up several times on my feed but I still can't get over what this Penguin Astronaut looks like. He's got an expression and this body language like he has horribly messed something up and is downplaying what he did, or perhaps he has soiled himself during a particularily dangerous landing, and is trying his hardest to keep up this poker face.
Thanks for the hard work, dude! This is the best KSP series in RUclips
These vehicles wouldn't look out of place in a sci-fi blockbuster movie, it's staggering that they're not only badass looking but also optimal design in terms of practicality.
i love this series to bits. i chuckled when i realised your "floating city" was an actual aircraft carrier floating in(on?) a gas giant. and you even used it like one. honestly I'm so grateful that you spend weeks just for our entertainment
By the way, KSP interstellar atmospheric scoops work at very low orbits just above the atmosphere. For example the scoops would work for a craft in a 72 km orbit around Kerbin
Oh my god. That shuttle is so very sleek.
It's like the Concorde; or rather the Fireflash future-Concorde from Thunderbirds.
...and it flies like a duck that's been hit in the head. Yay.
My mind is now blown. An amazing episode in a fantastic series!
I just stumbled across your series and binged through to this point in one day. I do regret nothing, I'm just missing the colony building live stream, but this will happen. Keep up the great work and take your time, I love it!
Thank you beardy, this series is literally CPR for my mental health
That shuttle is an absolute thing of beauty. Love it.
The live stream of the proof of concept was awesome, and really funny.
Hooly crap I have finally gotten to the end of the episodes after weeks. This has been a wild ride so far and what an episode to end on for the moment.
Just stumbled on this channel..
I'll be back when the New Kerbal comes out because you will be doing some crazy next level stuff in that!!
Oh My Freaking Gawd! That's Freaking AWESOME! YES! I definitely think you are the very FIRST and probably the last (at least until (and if) KSP2 ever comes out) to actually mine a Massive Gas Giant for Hel3! Well Done my Man! Well Done!
This series has produced some of the coolest KSP ships ever and you've done an amazing job giving them some of the coolest names, too!
I love your series, I just watched all 50 episodes of Endurance and all of this series. This is brilliant!
I was jere since the last few episodes of season 1
These videos are always amazing but this has to take the cake as best ksp video I have ever seen also the way you have been doing this seiries emerged me in the universe your in and its fantastic
So happy to watch another episode! Absolutely loving the series!
Darn, I was binging my way through endurance and beyond, but now I have to wait :/. Great stuff Beardy!
Woooo! All that testing and building has finally paid off, good stuff Beardy!
I think the only challenges left for Beardy are to build a working Tether, a Dyson sphere and a GSV ;)
I have been looking forward to this! You make AWESOME videos.
Props to the comic writter, it was amazingly drawn!
Loved thay the terrorists are based on Matt lol
The Campbell is a stunning spacecraft! I love how angular it is
Thanks for making this beautiful series
Can’t wait for the next episode
Finally welcome back beardy, it might have been weeks, but it was worth the wait good job mate u did good beardy u did good all of your hard work payed off, bravo ✌️👌😎👍😉❤️
Thats fantastic! I can't even imagine theamount of effort that u did put in making this series.
The Campbell looks like something from Thunderbirds. Awesome.
You're like if Toxic Timewaster and Matt Lowne were to somehow merge into the same person, subscribed
i came back after a week at my grandparents to a new episode what a great surprise! love ya beardy hope your doing good.
JWST was originally planned to fly in 2007... It was a couple of days ago that they said a 7 month delay over the latest 2021launch window was gonna happen, so it'll probably launch (if it isn't delayed again) late 2021
So very much worth the wait! Amazing work!
just read the comic and it was great cant wait for a part 2 to come out
You might want to consider building a space station above your colony and Heba. The station above Heba should ideally have a shuttle and a lot of fuel tanks for storing all that fusion fuel while you ferry it back to your other colony. Gotta industrialise!
You sir, have inspired me to make a ghetto version of this series on KSRSS where I get Kerbals (technically humans,) to every body and back. Which I probably won't record but still. Anyway, awesome job on this! Keep up the amazing work!
One of the most impressive things I've seen in KSP
Thank you for making this series!
This is absolutely amazing well done I cant wait for the next one
Wow, what an achievement. Congratulations!
Hearing him talk about his fan art made me smile like a goof lmao
Finally!!! This series is so awesome... i found your channel from this series
I saw that this was posted and let out an audible gasp
I personally giggled like a schoolgirl because i realized he had done it the mad lad
We love this series you deserve the subs man
Edit: lol Maneo treatment the worst kind of treatment
This is the coolest shit I've ever seen. Just sitting there floating in the middle of nothing. Insane
You are a cooler Matt that isn't lazy and isn't always "busy irl right now"
When you use the colony you made to make another colony you know you’ve done well
I was scared you had stopped the series but then this popped up in my inbox
Thank you for bringing this back to us, Beardy!!!! =)
Beardy is definitely among the most dedicated and generous youtubers
maybe an antimatter powered tug around Heba for moving the ascent ship and the Clarke together would mean you won't have to waste fuel from the Clarke in order to rendezvous
Really like the look of the shuttle👍
What an achievement that was awesome man well done!
I wonder if KSP 2 will have megastructure support so I can *attempt* something like this without melting my computer from the part counts?
We can hope!
We will wait as long as you need to make quality content. Ive been here since after kerbal ep 1.
Seeing this and the guy's comic makes me almost want to make my own KSP colony narrative, but with a different tone. Kerbin was lost long ago and this lone colony ship has been scouring the stars for decades, kinda going for a Homeworld feel, and they finally come across a star system which they can inhabit, but something attacks them and they have to protect the fledgling colony
Unfortunately I don't have the time because of college or talent in KSP to pull something like that off... And I fear even if I did make something like that it wouldn't get very much attention
one of my favorite ksp series of all time, I don’t understand how half of the mods work and what they do, but anyways, keep up the good work!
damn that ssto looks great
you shouldve added a catapult to the carrier making it easier to takeoff but this series is finished anyways but still, great content!
Lmao, this episode is almost 1 year old and I've jsut noticed what a perfect theme you used (at 21:32 ) exellent choice beardy XD.
I'm so glad to discover your channel
Even though I'm having exams, not the best time to catch up on this serie
The shimmy on that first Asimov landing was the stuff of nightmare. o.o
