Aleksandr Kerman was a true communist. May his unimaginable sacrifice of his own life to the development in space exploration be always remember throughout history. RIP Aleksandr Kerman. The best of all Kerbal kind.
The Dog Laika unfortunately died on the 4th orbit after the AC unit failed. The stage 2 seperation tore off insulative pannels and the temperature rose to 107° F killing her after several hours in space. Russian scientists used Moscow strays because they beleived they would have been more adapted to survive the hunger and cold. The original design had her coming back but the mission was rushed to meet an order that it must be ready for a certian Soviet anneversary. (I forget what it was) but the whole Soyuz 2 was designed and built in 3 weeks to meet the deadline and the dog was planned to die via a poisoned serving of food loaded aboard the rocket. Other Soviet space dogs have returned from space alive.
that is a lovely high altitude weather analysis plane you have there, allowing for the prediction of weather, even over the enemies of the state as we are caring to all kerbals! (and not to spy on the americans missile sites)
May his cleverness, strength, and braveness be never forgotten, this Kerbal is one of few that established space exploration for generations to come. The Soviet Kerbal Space Program gives sincere remarks to his family, and will make sure that his dying efforts shall not go to waste. To explore the beyond would never have been possible without his collaboration. He was one of the brightest pilots and one of the youngest, at age 38, he still stood competitive amongst his peers, we mourn his loss and will never forget his life was put on the line to support our cost. Rest in piece brave astronaut.
Your pronounciation of "glaz" is pretty much accurate except for the long "a". We don't do that. Though, for space tech we would rather use more archaic word like "oko" imho. But glaz is cool too, anyhow.
@4:48 you put an interstage fairing ring just above a decoupler - that ring actually functions as a decoupler itself, you just need to attach the top node (floating ~2m above the ring) to the bottom of the engine, and then reduce the "height" slider and increase the "extra height" slider to set up the fairing properly.
Hey Beardy, just commenting to say that I'm loving this series (though possibly a bit less than FoK) and that it is once again making me want to try realism overhaul. Maybe I'll actually do it at some point. Also RIP Aleksander Kerman
The space race is a *wonderful* way of spicing up the regular KSP formula! Personally, I'd love to see this series go beyond the first moon landing - who knows, maybe a race to establish a permanent colony on mars similar to the scenario in 'Mars Horizon' ? Beyond the gameplay, I'd just love listen to you talk about more interesting facts and history bits about the crazy concepts they came up with in the 20th century for space exploration, and what mission plans exist today.
It was. The Americans were really interested in Russian weather. It was a big deal from the late ‘40s through the ‘80s. They call it the Meteorology Conflict.
Hey Beardy, check out the Tupolev Tu-123 as an example of Soviet spyplanes you might enjoy copying in the future, especially for very high speed contracts. Not only was it badass looking, it used a special "disposable" version of the MiG-25's engine to get up to SR-71 speeds!
I enjoy this series very much. I find the different takes of you and N9 to be very entertaining. You giving us snippets of life in the Union of Kerbal Socialist Republics, while N9 has gone for a very documentary feeling. Keep up the good work.
Your pronunciation is actually OK with russian words, don't know why you worry so much. By the way, in Soviet times we liked to name our spacecrafts somewhat more propagandist, like Soyuz (unity/Union), Progress, Voshod (the Dawn), Zenith, Zarya (the Sunrise) or Salut (the Firework. Yup, really, we called space-stations that). Of cause it would be more fun if you didn't carbon-copy the names and came up with some of your own, but in the similar tone. Great latsplay by the way, extremely interesting to watch. Keep on the good work, conquer Space for the Motherland and try to not collapse as a country in a meantime. Cheers from Moscow xD
I'm guessing this series will end with the end of the irl space race but is there any chance of this series being longer/having a sequel because I'd love to see an extended space race to mars or whatever
