if anyone was paying a attention, these "discounts" are pretty close to their preinflation prices if not slightly more expensive. Except the status deal is actually pretty good.
This is exactly right. A few weeks ago I bought a 2022 Sentinel at 20% off which is about the same price they were selling before the price hikes. Now I’m seeing other retailers starting to discount new old stock. Models with a significant refresh coming will see the best deals. Discounting new old stock was commonplace before COVID’ there just hasn’t been inventory around for the last couple years.
People don't usually pay attention, so ... videos like that are for them.
Sales, disciunts,..
Gezas hrst, who still believes it??!!..
@@jimm244 spot on and also not optimal sizes, agree nothing new here
Does anyone remember back in the early 2000s when previous year bikes always got discounted by 30-50% off every year?
No but I liked this comment anyway cause I've checked pc hardware prices for about 15 years and some of em were nice
Wasn't even that long ago, that lasted till about 2012/13 when some dick came up with the "Oh model years are so outdated, we're doing away with them to be modern"
They usually did their blow outs in October.
Yes indeed..so true
I still have my bikes from that time period. Bought them for very discounted prices.
People got so used to getting ripped off by 8k mtbs that they think 5k is a bargain
This is so true that is really concerning.
Yeah 🤣
FACTS. it wasn't that long ago that you could get a great bike for 2-3k
I made a comment similar to that but somebody told me that it’s because of the carbon and all the high and components they put on them still never justify at 10 $13,000 price tag
You are PUMPIN out the vids!
Thanks for sharing this with us. I have noticed that even with the entry level bikes.
Insightful, concise and very well done! You do such a great job with your videos! I live in Seattle and just discovered your channel.
The main reason these bikes are being priced so low is that Specialized and other bike manufacturers are coming out with updated and revamped models. A little birdie told me to look for an updated Stumpy, Levo SL, Enduro, and Epic. Their bikes usually have a 3 year life cycle then time for the new new!
Birdies in Barn told me too
Hey new bikes are a great thing! I'm curious if they'll be able to sell through all the existing stock, but even more curious of if they'll sell through the new models
@@DailyMTBRider we will see.
Would love it if the SJ got the adjustable headset of the evo = im all in on that
@jc trails that little birdie say anything about the Status?
Those discounts still aren't enough for me to get a new bike
Nope me neither. They had a sale in October and Black Friday with 20% discounts. Still waiting for the other shoe to drop. I am looking for the EVO frame to drop further. It was at $2100 if it goes below $2k I’ll entertain the idea.
@Dman although I agree I doubt there will be anything left at 60%. My problem like most people is that M sizes are always the first to go.
Same my 2020 Norco can way outdo everything I feel comfortable doing. 0 reasons to change
@@hic73 lol same
They need to be at 20%....of purchase price...k🤣
Love the videos!
Your new style of videos is great! It’s a topic/angle/approach to mtb content that isn’t being done……and it should be!👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks so much, stoked you like it!
That's because literally all other MTB YT channels are just shills for the bike manufacturers.
I was trying to be patient and wait for bigger sales but that Status 160 is a crazy good deal so I picked one up! Thanks for the vid.
Picked one up to! Hasn’t shipped after 6 days yet. Super eager!
I love this guy thanks
Thanks for this video earlier I finally decided today and picked up the status 160 🙌🥳🥳
I noticed this today, got all the emails for specialized bikes on sale. However I would say as an example, the 2022 Stumpy Evo Expert at $4725 is only $275 less than the 2021 Evo Expert MSRP of $5000. So compared to that, not a huge discount for essentially the same exact bike. But I suppose compared to the rest of the bike market right now, it is a good deal.
A couple of months ago my wife and I bought the $7500 2022 alum. Levo on sell from $7500 down to $5600, With taxes we saved over $2k apiece. The bikes are a blast.
They had very few online, but we called around to local bike shops to find the right sizes the shops matched the price.
A specialized spokesperson claimed they were making room for the 2023, but there won't be many changes on the newer Levos.
@@Rambleon444 Ridiculous
I just bought a new stumpjumper thanks for the INFO.
Loving this content, so compelling. 2 of my favourite things - chatting about bikes and nerding out on economics/markets. Keep ‘em coming !!
News of discounts is great , but do we need daily "chicken little" headlines?
Great breakdown and info!
I don't see how any person can even *think* of arguing the idea that bike prices are not overinflated. The only thing overinflated are the excuses (supply chain, cost of materials, "R&D", etc. While those are indeed valid concerns, it's not the "reason" prices are so high. It's because they're selling lifestyle over product).
Not after seeing a company like Specialized knock almost $2k off their prices, anyhow. The "industry" built this position they find themselves in, all on their own.
I don't feel for them one bit.
And, I get it's harder for smaller brands (Devinci), or USA made brands like Guerilla Gravity, I don't fault them. The bar is set by the giants.
The BMX market is going to have a tough year too. But their prices aren't ridiculously overinflated like the MTB market is.
well said and I am in FULL agreement with the overinflated prices
Amen
What do you think that new fancy electronic gadget you want cost to produce? Wake up- it's not just the bike industry. Support local shops and help us feed our families.....if we are bad don't come back but life is more than about "the best deal" let your money have more meaning. We all can agree that bikes are awesome! Love the channel too......thanks for the great content.
Yes and no. They are way over inventoried and trying to lean it out. They produced/ordered a lot of product and the market has cooled down. It's been cooling down slowly for the past 10 months. Also at the peak of COVID their cost to ship a 40 ft shipping container went from $1,700 to $17,000. Imagine paying that much freight on a 40 ft shipping container of Riprocks and Rockhoppers...
Some bicycles are more money than a motorcycle. Over inflated prices? Yep!
I think it’s great that you mentioned we go ride and not just watch Hit hard
Damn that status is super sweet deal. Appreciate for keeping us updated!
I'm in Canada and am not really seeing these same deals, even on the Specialized website--everything still full price. Local shops only have about 15% off on their top spec bikes in weird sizings (XS, XL).
I made a similar comment. I'm in Ohio, and it's the same as you described.
Interestingly, the 2023 models were also on sale. I bought the SJ Evo Expert for the same $4725 as the 2022 model, except this one has the GX AXS drivetrain. Picking it up tomorrow at the local bike shop.
Hi mate, great points and will have to check out the 22 deals. As for getting out and riding my bike? I'm wearing a Tee with the words "Keep on cycling" but I just got back in after turning back in the car, freezing fog, minus temps, not all the the roads are gritted here in Wales. I thought it would be good but nah, and riding solo when everything is iced up, could be bad for me. My wife tried to deter me before I set off by saying "I got a bad feeling about you riding today", she never said this before in my 12 years of MTB. But, I'm here, in the warmth of my home, having put back the bike in the bike room and changed back out of my MTB clothes. I'm going to work on my latest track, I'm also a rock guitarist and dedicate it to Jeff Beck (RIP). I play my tracks on my MTB channel vids. Have a good day sir and thanks for your channel.🤙✌
Great stuff here. New subscriber. I saw this coming and was able to sell my Ripmo in July 2022 with minimal loss. My guess 2023-24 bikes will have very small innovations and just new colors per brand. I’m ok with that as geometry is not gonna to change.
People are predicting the top tier models (10k) will continue to rise in price with inflation…
Good product and good services
Interesting that in the UK the stump jumper evo comp has gone up a few hundred pounds since what I paid for it last year.
Also interesting is Alchemy Bikes had a 'Holiday' sale just end this past weekend and now they've decided to extend the sale through the end of January. Up to $1,500 off.
Couldn't happen to a nicer company. The real bummer about this is that it will add to the economic pressure the few independent bike shops that Specialized hasn't already managed to drive out of business in their effort to have only 1 brand Specialized owned/factory stores. Specialized will use this to kill their remaining independent dealers off.
I hit up my local Specialized dealer today, just to see what they had and where prices were. They were extremely limited on road bikes (I realize this is a MTB Channel, but i think both sides are feeling the pinch). I was told Specialized is holding onto stock and selling direct to the consumer. This is to get the cash quicker than they would from the LBS. while I'm all about getting stuff for a great price, I hate to think the real losers are going to be the local bike shops!
I'm going to bet they have a huge amount of stock. I bought my son a Stumpjumper Evo frame on the Black Friday sale and the manufacture date on his frame is from mid 2021. It is a size S2 so is not one of the extremes of undesirable sizes. Also that Stumpjumper Evo Comp mentioned for $3700 is a carbon bike, it is a deal
Just bought the $6300 Stumpjumper Evo Expert for $4700. Great deal right? Not Really! That's about the price the same bike would have cost pre-pandemic. Bike prices got massively over-inflated.
I know right I can't stand these companies overcharging people so much and act like they're doing them a favor
It’s called inflation welcome to the new, it’s not just bike companies. Also look at the components you got on an expert “pre pandemic” Stumpjumper
You could have gotten the 2023 model with gx axs, for the same price! In case you didnt know!!
@@radidoc4832 I prefer my bikes acoustic. I can't think of a good reason why I would want to attach a phone/computer to my bike.
Went to a bike store to discuss items for new bike i was going to purchase. A woman walked in, interrupted us, and said she wanted to buy a bike she had picked out. He stopped what he was doing with me and made the sale.

best news guy ever
I worked for a bike shop last fall and they had stumpjumpers coming out their EARS. I kid you not like 60-80 bikes and this was a small shop. The owner wouldn't discount them either so they aren't selling. Didn't seem to be a problem with the Giant Trances we had in stock, probably because there were only like 5 of them.
Ive been keeping up with the industry as well. I look daily to see if santa cruz or Yeti are having sales yet
A local bike shop here in Colorado just got 4 shipping containers full of bikes he ordered. The shipping containers are in the back behind the store in his yard. I wonder if I should wait or try to make a deal now. I would say he has too much inventory or is anticipating the rush on bikes when the weather improves.
I guess that may be happening in the USA, but the Canadian website shows no deals at all.
Local specialized bike shop that I drive by every day still has the same bikes hanging in Windows that I've seen for a while now 😞
Maybe one or two have changed but not a lot.
Pay attention to the spec list and asterisk about component changes without notice. Many companies are deviating from "spec" due to supply chain etc.
Just got back from a ride at south mountain. Now for the infinite yourtube scrolling lol.
I just ordered the S4 Specialized Stumpjumper Comp White/Black for 3300 Euro total including MWST (VAT) here in Switzerland. It will take a couple of weeks to arrive but thats ok for me.
I think this is a sweat deal for that frame and components :)
Cheers
Yeah, I was trying to buy a Turbo Levo Expert in December, didn't get approved from their finance company... figured I would just wait and take money out of retirement to get one this year. They lost $2700 on the sale and the finance company lost the interest. Win-win for me.
Never finance toys. If you have to do that, that means you can not afford it. Unless the finance interest is lower than interest you get from your investment.
Wow, raiding your retirement account for a medical bill, okay. For a mortgage payment, understand. But to buy a new bike? Are you aware the Republicans have Social Security in their crosshairs right now?
there is so much wrong in what you just wrote that I'm scared for you...
Waiting for you to come in with a suit jacket over a jersey to give us a “Special Industry News Alert”
Seriously though, loving these frequent industry updates so I know when to sell my extra bikes.
Many brands must have massive inventories stacking up, YT had 25% off all their eMtb's for a week, yet they still have many in stock now after the sale on both the EU and the NA site, so imagine how many they had before the sale.
I bet a new Decoy is just around the corner. Sale is over and they are out of stock in a lot of sizes with no expected dates listed.
I insta bought the status 160. It's been on the top of my list since middle of last year. Good value at 3000, insane value at 2200.
Congratulations that bike is a beast I love riding my mullet
It's crazy because end of December I picked up a specialized fuse 27.5 for 1100 when the dealer themselves told me retail was closer to 1500 ots crazy woth shimano deore and I planned on upgrading the rockshok Judy anyways.
What do you see coming from Canyon. I have my eye on the Spectral 29 . Do see see any movement from the customer direct guys?
Specialized tires are actually really good. I like them as much as Maxxis, and they are usually cheaper.
I've liked every specialized tire that I tried
@@jimbo4203 you've never ridden an Umma Gumma then! Ha, ha! In general, Specialized has done an admirable job with tires. But they've had some bombs, too!
@@dudeonbike800 I did slice both pathfinder gravel tires in a month tho , but I liked them for a month
I agree - the Butcher tread pattern (in T9 compound) specced on the bike he showed are very good (if anyone reading is not familiar, the Trail casing is lighter than the Gravity version, which is their ultra heavy duty carcass).
@@dudeonbike800 Umma Gumma! That's a trip in the Way Back Bus.
This is all normal. These are completely normal sales. Not even great sale prices.
Have you seen the buy 1 take 1 of marin bikes?
I called a shop a couple weeks ago to ask if they had used or prior year stock I could save money on for a new gravel bike. They said no, as I expected, but they went ahead and offered hundreds off several trims (almost a thousand on the bottom carbon one). None of these discounts were reflected on specialized’s website so doesn’t hurt to ask right now. Seems like they were predecided discounts because he was quick to offer them.
Specialized ist being really generous lately. Ive had an 2018 Specialized Enduro Elite but unfortunately my Frame snapped. However Specialized was really quick to answer and hooked me up with the new 2023 Specialized Enduro Expert. I went from paying 3200€ for my old Enduro t now recieving a higher spec model. Super stoked.
That Status looks pretty much like a Polygon T8
I live new two Trek stores. I am a new cyclist, and am not sure what haggling etiquette is. A couple of the models I want have been sitting there since at least July of last year. They're apparently in-demand road bike models, but again it's been half a year or more...they haven't discounted them, though. What's etiquette in asking about a discount?
Very good but even so here in my country the bikes are much more expensive they have one more digit in the price because of the devalued currency and import taxes 😪
I’m saving up for a specialized cleaning rockhopper comp 29 do you think the discount is good enough
I scored 2023 stumpy Evo comp 30%off. Not bad for those who are on the fence.
Picked up a Marin San Quentin 2 2022 hardtail at 400€ discount last week because the new models are rolling in!
Wish i can get a killer deal like this on a Santa Cruz 5010... any tips?
The 2023 models are on sale also. They are just trying to clear inventory old and new.
I found a status for 2230 they are sold out everywhere had to drive hour to find everyone I talked to that runs status they love it
Should I change my giant reign 2 with Yari rc and Slx for a status?
At first I thought the sale was only for the older 2022 stuff but its not, a lot of those Stumpjumper EVOs are the 2023 models!
It's not discount. Its a realignment to near to the prices they should be.
May be a coincidence but I just saw tonight that Trek lopped off $500 from its Trek Rail ebikes. Ya don’t see discounts from Trek too often, esp for bikes that are but a few months old.
I’m not gonna lie I watched your video about this last week and held off on buying then boom today prices go down on the specialized 160 which I think is a great bike but I’m really waiting for is the Canyon torque AL 5 to go down in price it’s slowly getting there I was ready to buy the status 160 at it’s original price but now I don’t know what to do keep waiting or just say efff it and get it I’m gonna have to go into my local specialized dealer and get sized
love these videos being constantly pumped out
On top of the issues all bike manufacturers are facing, what is your thought on DTC brands (Fezzari, YT, Polygon, Commencal) verse big box brands (Specialized, Trek, Santa Cruz etc) and the pressure DTCs are putting on them? DTC's are offering staggering builds for prices way less than these big box brands. I feel this puts even more pressure on some big brands to lower their prices...
Curious to hear what you think
on the other hand, these type of constant videos will make just as many people unsub, I'm close.
I wish the Epic Evo was over-supplied. . . never seen a deal on one.
Such a shame the UK market has not followed this trend…….. come on !
I saw at our Trek biggest shop in Poland price for new 2023 Domane Al3 disc - 1600 usd!! this is sick. 1600usd for Sora components and mechanical brakes!
Just bought a Specialized status not two months ago, havent even had a chance to ride it yet. Should I feel bad about missing out on a $750 price drop? I'm honestly conflicted. The bike at $3000 was a good price for what I was getting and all the reviews backed that up. But that huge drop in price honestly turns my stomach. I'm new to this industry and I'm assuming this kind of drop in price is unique or does specialized do 25% drops every year to ditch stock? Iv also heard this is a market correction as the price had gone way up over the last few years.
Grow up.
Why the heck Status still $3000US in Canada
Heading to Fanatik tomorrow
Wow might be time to upgrade to a new bike, last bike is a 2004 sx trail!
Do it!!!
The new geo alone is worth it
Can I get a website please to see what's available.
Just get a bike and get out riding people
Life is too short to worry over a few hundred, My dad spent his whole life saving for retirement then passed away at 55
Almost everybody I talk to wants an eMTB now. eMTB are still selling just fine. I think we are seeing a shift of consumer preference towards eBikes. Mountain biking usually have a lot of hills and pedaling up hills are extremely easy with an eMTB. We will start to see more and more people buy e bikes and manufacturers will be making more e bikes.
Chain reaction cycles (part of wiggle in UK) have slashed everything. Vitus and nukeproof bikes. A £3000 reactor is now £2000. Huuuge savings.
Hope Trek does it soon
They got greedy, serves them right! All the brands need knocking down a peg or two!
Not enough yet.
Look at all these discounts that I still can't afford.
This just shows the massive mark up on bicycles, they are still making money selling them at these prices, goes to show how much we get ripped off.
Looks like the bubble has burst, the next boom is ebikes, sales of ordinary bikes are starting to dip.
I bought a specialized Stumpjumper Pro full carbon this time last year for about $8,200 and it makes me sick to my stomach that the exact same bike is now being sold on their website for $2,000 less
Buyers remorse?
Did you think you were getting a deal at the time?
@@DaveEPie No remorse because I had a great 2022 on it, but I knew the price was inflated by several thousand dollars and didn't want to wait. I waited 4 months to buy it and the price went up $600 in that 4 months. For me it's a tax write off, so it's not that big of a deal, but I could have used that extra 2k to Norco Bigfoot Vlt 2. I was hoping the prices wouldn't come down for a couple years, so I wouldn't feel like I got fucked.
I see Yeti are marked down at some places also
I got a really decent deal. Bought recently Trek slash 9.8 xt 2022. Sick bike for 6k
Marin Bikes has a buy one get one free deal for entry hardtails too! Crazy.
just saw that specialized status 160 frames are down to 850 for a frameset. dang, gonna ask for some credit after getting mine for 1k
No sale for Germany or Austria. Also if you go on all mountain bikes section there are 21 bikes between 2100€ - 5000€, and 44 bikes between 5000€ - 10.000€, and 16 bikes over 10.000€ witch is mind blowing. i know that are normal bikes and e-bikes in the mountain bike section but still..
You should take a look at the lack of ads on Pinkbike. Bet there hurting more:(
I received an email from Specialized yesterday targeted to it's Canadian customers titled "We heard you" and message boiled down to "we made the important decision to adjust the pricing structure of our bikes in your favor". I cleaned up the embedded link URL and it says "campaign=CACampaignENBikepriceadjustments" Weirdly enough there are no advertised price cuts. I confirmed this using Wayback Machine screenshop from 6 Dec 2022 and indeed no price decreases. They continue to screw us Canadians by first sending super low stock across the border, not offering sworks framesets through local bike shops and now saying "WE ADJUSTED PRICES" but in reality they haven't done jack.
I’ve been looking to buy a Diverge for the past 3 years. Everything is still out of stock on the Specialized site. I don’t see how they are drowning in inventory.
Diverge were released during the covid shortages as they were produced in Vietnam and not China so you will be stuck waiting for the new models to come out. I snapped up the first Carbon Diverge to hit Phoenix and was completely unimpressed with it. I liked my aluminum Diverge much better - so make sure to try both on before you buy.
@@jnb756 thanks for the feedback. I already have a Sirrus X 4 and I was thinking that the 3.5K Diverge wouldn’t be much better than the Sirrus. I want more speed, but the roads are terrible where I live, so I thought a gravel bike might be the way to go. Tarmac or Diverge. 4K budget. What do you think.
The Stumpy alloy went down in price, but not the Comp, why not?
When is the Trek fire sale ?
I just bought a new 2022 stumpjumper back in November and paid full price! Seeing this sale is disappointing!
You should have waited for the *New Leafs* my friend!
No srsly that kinda sucks but shits happens and sometimes you get lucky and sometime you don't.
It happens to everybody my friend, my advise is, use your Bike often this spring/summer season and enjoy it to the fullest!
😊
Was about to buy a SJ Evo but bought a Sur Ron instead. I’ll keep my 2019 MTB for exercise and now I have a new toy that can do so much more for less than the price of a mid-range SJ Evo.
Also, these prices are just the pre-covid supply chain issue prices. Don’t be confused by the discount.
Well, hey, here's a thought... LOWER THE PRICES! Bike prices have gotten out of control.
I have two Specialized bikes and have owned four so I know how good they are - but this also shows what people, including myself, have been saying since 2020 - they simply price their bikes too high - I don't mean their top end bikes as much as I mean their consumer oriented mid-range and entry level bikes. Great bikes but the price hurts and if you can afford them get them - if not there are other options of equal value for a lot less money.
Good deal or not thats still lots of money
I bought a used 2022 Status 140 frame for $800 bucks, but I got a dropper/lever also. I still think I got a good deal but it hurts to see the same frame sell new for only 200+ more than I paid.
i got my 2022 140 status for 1.2 full build super stoked on it atm
@@forbify5079 well that's a smokin deal!
Would totally pull trigger on Status right now but concerned about that slack HTA on short bursts of intense uphill climbs. Thoughts anyone...
Had a 140mm Status for a year and the head tube angle was indeed slack and a bit unwieldy on low speed climbs. However the main gripe I had was that technical climbs were made very tricky by the very low bottom bracket and the resulting pedal strikes.
Other than that though the bike climbed well enough and was super capable!
I’m a somewhat new mountain biker and have exhausted my hard tail so I’m looking to move up to a full-sus would one of these be good?
