Starting to offer a video version of my podcast episodes after about 5 years of only doing audio is one of the best decisions I've ever made. It ended up doubling my listeners, both due to adding new forms of discoverability on RUclips, but also because some people just prefer to watch video and will *only* tune in if there is a video version. So it is kind of a no-brainer if you want to double your audience.

Pat, your advice and tutorials are absolutely priceless. Whilst listening to your video, i was in other tabs, which i guess follows on from the point you were making. I agree, it's not my favourite thing when i have to flip back to the tab or screen to see what someone is talking to camera about, and it can be annoying. I'm not really a TV, film, or video watcher, and much prefer audio, as I can get on with other things whilst listening, or as is often the case, I listen as I wind down the day in bed. Sage advice from you got me started with The Family Histories Podcast, and I've been enjoying charting these last couple of weeks in Apple Podcasts 'Top Charts' for History in UK, Canada, and Australia. Thank you for everything in 2021, and I wish you health and happiness through 2022.

Billy Diamond here of Billy Diamond's Branding For Entertainers Podcast. Thank you Pat! Going into 2021 my goal was to start adding video podcasting in addition to my audio podcast. You cleared up and answered a lot of my questions. You are always the best. I plan to start simply by adding clips from my audio episodes and filming at the same time I record a guest. I believe too that more leverage can be had by pulling out a topic and using the video as small bites to onboard listeners and subscribers. You reinforced my original thought on this and I appreciate it. Side note.... your encouragement and help to start my audio podcast is why I do it now ---- THANKS Pat!

Dude, Pat, really appreciate this. I had a great idea for a video podcast so I got some cameras and mics, setup a table in a park, and started interviewing people who wanted to talk. They all love it but what was supposed to be a 7 minute interview has continuously turned into 30-90 minutes because the people find my idea so interesting and they never want to stop at the 7 minutes (we talk about them). However, I'm not a video editor nor am I tech savvy. Im just a guy with an idea and people seem to love it. I've spend the past week just researching simple editing software because everything seems overly complicated to me. To this moment I'm still confused and undecided.
So, I thought I would outsource it. My freaking gosh is that expensive for the length of time of the interviews considering I can do 2-3 interviews per day each lasting no less than 30 minutes but thats conservative. I knew I could clip it for reels or shorts on Insta, youtube, tik tok, etc. and separate audio for a podcast, but was also planning to post the full video interviews to youtube.
This is so logical, but it hadn't occurred to me. Man, thank you for easing that burden some! Truly. I never reply on youtube but this really really helped. I sub to your podcast, and it isn't much, but have another YT sub sir. Thank you. 🙏

We’ve been recording a monthly podcast for few years now. In 2020 we experimented with live-streaming it. And while that was fun, we saw three things that made us stop and focus on audio only.
    1. We did not attract many live viewers.
    2. Those who watched live could ask questions and it was probably more fun for them, but for the rest (listening to recording) would suffer.
    3. Number of view the video later got was also low.
It’s points you also say, it’s interesting to see how we came to similar conclusions.
I like the idea with 3-5min bits, might try that, thanks!

Very informative, as usual, Pat! Been struggling with what to do with video, as I have narrated power point lectures on YT, stripped the audio for my podcast, then after my class lectures were completed, been recording weekly episodes in audio only around various subjects... and considered the idea of posting more to the YT channel but not sure how to strategize. This helped me a lot, as I'm venturing into interviews, and your idea of creating highlight, short clips for video is the guidance I needed - if I decide to post them, I may go that route. Cheers, Jack.

Thank you for your tips on starting a video podcast! I started my podcast Pull Up And Thrive (audio only but maybe adding video soon) after watching another one of your videos about starting a podcast. Thank you for all the content

Great video and information! We have a podcast based on “All things Georgia” and have been contemplating trying to expand our reach into video. You gave me a lot of stuff to chew on! 🤘 Cheers, Chase

Hey Pat! Loved the tips. This definitely gets us thinking about how to better utilize our podcast for RUclips. We've thought about creating a separate channel for the podcast (Learn Spanish and Go), but sharing some video clips with select guests might be the better option on our main channel. Cheers! -Jim

A separate channel could work for the full version. Thomas Frank does this for his main show, it won’t hurt but it’s an additional channel to pay attention to and manage which could add up to more time that could potentially be spent elsewhere.

Thank you very much. I am starting my own podcast and was undecided if I do it as a video or audio or mixed. Now I have a clear view. I am glad that I watched this video before I started.

    Great information!
I started a niche podcast two weeks ago which I livestream the recording. Keep this livestream up until I upload the edited video (I hit record on my camera while livestreaming) then cut out the pauses/umms/uhs and uploaded that.
They're just 10-20 minute videos but uploading snippets/segments is a GREAT idea. I'm already doing this for IG/FB I never thought to do it for RUclips (and not shoot myself in the foot with long content no one finishes watching)

I came across you watching youtube. Just feeling my own knowledge in. I recently started a RUclips thing a month and a half ago. I had no idea what I was doing and it was before I saw anything. I had gone crazy disabled. Something called the MS. I'm a former fighter and coach of martial arts for many years. Kind of started talking like it was a therapy or something. It's only a month and a half old and I'm pushing 90 subscribers so far so something's working. Thank you for these videos I am learning from them

Great video, Pat. So many podcasters are going video that I've been pondering it. But, as you said, it seemed like a crazy idea since I personally can't imagine staring at two people talking for 30, 45, or 60 minutes. In addition, many of my guests ask, "I'm not going to be on video, am I?" Your 5 minute or so segments to draw interest sounds perfect. If I have a guest who doesn't want to show their face, it's easy to put up a graphic for a few minutes. Now I'm excited and I'm going to hunt down some podcasts that use your suggestion. I think you'll see my podcast "Queer Writers of Crime" coming to RUclips soon.
